TOPIC 2 – THE LIGHT MUSEUM AND ENERGY
CENTRE. AIM : TO DESIGN WORLD-CLASS EXHIBITION OF LIGHTING PRODUCTS AND SYSTEMS WITH FOCUS ON EFFICIENT LIGHTING TECHNOLOGIES IN THE RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL SECTORS.
GENERAL INFORMATION : STATE GOVERNMENT OF KARNATAKA AND THE INDIAN LIGHTING INDUSTRY PLANS TO ESTABLISH A LIGHTS MUSEUM AND ENERGY CENTRE (LIMEC) AT BANGALORE. THE LIMEC WOULD BE PART OF A BROADER ELECTRICAL DSM INSTITUTION AIMED AT PROMOTING THE ADOPTION AND COMMERCIALIZATION OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY TECHNOLOGIES AND SERVICES IN INDIA, WHICH WOULD HAVE A DIRECT IMPACT ON THE REDUCTION IN GROWTH OF GREENHOUSE GAS (GHG) EMISSIONS. IN THE CURRENT ERA OF HIGH-ENERGY PRICES THAT LIGHTING IS AN EXPENSIVE COMMODITY WITH SIGNIFICANT ENVIRONMENT IMPACTS. IN INDIA LIGHTING IS RARELY CONCERNED TO BE THE FOCUS OF THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT AND YET IT HAS FAR REACHING IMPACT ON SOCIETY AND THE ENVIRONMENT. NAME : N.SRIVIJI

EXISTING RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS, EXPOSITIONS, MUSEUMS AND INDUSTRY PROVIDE PIECE-MEAL INFORMATION TARGETED TOWARDS SPECIALIZED GROUPS. THERE IS A NEED TO DISSEMINATE INFORMATION TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AS WELL AS EXPERTS ON DESIGN PRACTICES FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE LIGHTING APPLICATIONS AND IMPROVED AESTHETICS.
OBJECTIVES: • TO SHOWCASE INTERACTIVE LIGHTING APPLICATIONS WHERE “CAUSE AND EFFECTS” ARE DEMONSTRATED EFFECTIVELY ON MANUAL AND DIGITAL SYSTEMS. • TO SHOWCASE ILLUMINATION TECHNOLOGY THAT ALLOWS LIGHT TO BE USED IN DIVERSE AREAS RANGING FROM HOMES, OFFICES, THEATRE, SHOPS/MALLS, STREETS, INDUSTRY, PAINTING, PHOTOGRAPHY, LASER/LIGHT SHOWS AND HOLOGRAPHIC 3-D IMAGES. • TO COVER INDIAN AND INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES DESIGNED TO BE OF INTEREST TO THE LIGHTING PROFESSIONALS AS WELL AS THE GENERAL PUBLIC. • TO GIVE BE AN OPPORTUNITY TO UNDERSTAND AND EXPLORE ADVANCED LIGHTING CONCEPTS AND ENHANCE PERFORMANCE. LIVE CASE STUDY :
SINCE THE LIGHT MUSEUM IS THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN INDIA, A LIVE CASE STUDY OF THE SAME IS NOT FEASIBLE. HOWEVER, CASE STUDIES OF THE CONSTITUENT COMPONENTS MAY BE DONE ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS TO INFER MAJOR DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS. THEREFORE, THE FOLLOWING WILL BE CARRIED OUT. NAME : N.SRIVIJI
