I.

Objectives At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to: 1. Define aerophone, chordophone, membranophone and idiophone. 2. Classify the different kinds of instruments. 3. Draw examples of instrument according to its classification. 4. Appreciate the importance of different instruments.

II.

Subject Matter: Classification of Instruments, pp. 79-81 Active MAPEH 5, by Marshal DC. Defensor Powerpoint presentation, visual aids

III.

Procedure: A. Daily Routine Greetings Prayer Checking of Attendance B. Motivation The teacher will show different pictures of different kind of instruments. Say: Class, please look at these pictures, I want you to classify it according to its kind. Like for example, if it is struck, string or wind instrument. Are we clear? C. Lesson Proper After the activity, the teacher will discuss the classification of instruments. Say: Class, there are four classification of instrument. These are Aerophone, chordophone, membranophone and idiophone.  Say: Aerophone are instrument that uses air to produce sound (wind instruments) like flute and harmonica. Ask: Can you give other example of Aerophone?  Say: Chordophone are instrument that uses strings to produce sound. Like guitar and violin. Ask: Can you give other example of Chordophone?  Say; Membranophone are instrument that has membrane or skin of the animals. The common example of membranophone is drum.  Say: While Idiophone is a type of instrument being struck to itself, like the cymbals and xylophone to produce sound. Say: Class do you know that we can express our feelings and emotions by using these different kind of instrument? It also give life to different songs that will enable the listeners to feel the spirit of the songs that the artist wants to convey. Ask: Can you imagine how our life would be if there are no music? If there are no instruments? Life would be dull and boring isn’t it? D. Application: The teacher will show different pictures of instruments using powerpoint presentation. Say: Class, I want you to classify these instrument if it is Aerophone, Chordophone, Membranophone or Idiophone. And you have to explain your answer to your classmates. I will give you an example, let say that the first picture is violin, violin fall under chordophone, why? Because violin is string instrument. Do you understand? Ask: Who wants to answer? E. Generalization: Ask: Class, what are the classification of instruments? Ask: What is Idiophone? Ask: What is Aerophone?

Ask: What is Membranophone? Ask: What is Chordophone?

IV.

Evaluation: A. Direction: Analyze the instruments listed and write whether each is an aerophone, chordophone, membranophone or idiophone.
