Description

The Doll Project N°XII TOADSTOOL „Paul“ That‘s what you need: • 2,5 mm (US 1 ½) standard crocket hook • tapestry needle • 5 different yarns calling for 2,5 mm (US 1 ½) hook • 2 black 6 mm (0,2 inch) glass eyes (or safety eyes, or

black yarn to embroider, when the doll is made for a baby)

• soft stuffing (like cotton wool, polyfill etc.) FIRST OF ALL: Make sure, you crochet pretty tight all the way, to get no huge stretching holes between the stitches after you filled in the stuffing material firmly. If you crochet very loose, you should choose a smaller hook. Of course you can choose other yarns with a different gauge - the dolls measurements will change. So you have to correct the eyes-size. I used the following yarns on a 2,5 mm (US 1 ½) hook, so the entire doll turns out at a size of 27 cm (10,5 inch).

MC yarn (light gray) ≈ 35g - Atelier Zitron XXL tweed, 4ply - color N° 210 or „Regia sockwool“, 4ply - color N° 1991 (hellgrau meliert), yardage: 200m / 218yds (50g), gauge: 10x10cm (4x4inch) = 30sts/42rows CC1 yarn (white or light creme) ≈ 15g - Schachenmayr Catania Fine, 4ply - color N° 1005 (créme), yardage: 165m / 180yds (50g), gauge: 10x10cm (4x4inch) = 28sts/36rows CC2 yarn (brown) ≈ 15g - Regia sockwool, 4ply - color N° 2140 (borke meliert), yardage: 200m / 218yds (50g), gauge: 10x10cm (4x4inch) = 30sts/42rows CC3 yarn (green) ≈ 10g - Regia sockwool, 4ply - color N° 2744 (laub meliert), yardage: 200m / 218yds (50g), gauge: 10x10cm (4x4inch) = 30sts/42rows CC4 yarn (red) ≈ 15g - Atelier Zitron XXL tweed, 4ply - color N° 245 or „Regia sockwool“, 4ply - color N° 2002 (Kirsche), yardage: 200m / 218yds (50g), gauge: 10x10cm (4x4inch) = 30sts/42rows

Some hints First: 01. All parts will be worked in spirals - so you don‘t have to close the rounds except the pattern explicitly says to do so. 02.

PAUL is worked bottom-up - means you‘ll start at the feet and work up to the top of his head.

03. Have fun!

Sounds weired, but we start with ... the

Ruff

so make a chain of 21 ch using the MC yarn (light gray). And here it comes: The first exception to the rule - this time you don‘t work in spirals instead you have to close the rounds with a slst! Insert the hook in the 4th ch from hook (these 3 ch build the 1st „dc“ of the rnd.) and crochet the following instructions:

# rnd. 01.

FPdc =

front post double crochet stitch

Work a dc around the post of a dc of the row below like that: Yarn over, insert your hook from front to back between the posts of the dc‘s of the row below and then from back to front again (photo N°04). The hook should now be positioned horizontally behind the double crochet that you wanna work around (photo N° 04). Yarn over and draw the yarn around the post of the stitch. Now you have 3 loops on your hook as it should look like for a stantard dc (photo N° 05). Just finish the dc like a standard dc and your FPdc is done. (photo N°06+07)

TIP: It‘s easier to fill in some stuffing material into the legs now - when you have finished the body it‘s harder to stuff the legs firmly, because of the small opening at the end.

Assembling 1st step – arms & body: Sew the 2 arms onto the body - underneath the next-tolast round.

2nd step – head & Eyes: Set the eyes in place between rnd. 81 and 82 (see instructions for the head). The distance between one eye to the other is 11 stitches.

3rd step – Hat & Head: Why not making some different kinds of hats for PAUL so he can change from Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria) to Bay Bolete (Boletus badius)? Just use some other colours.

4th step – head:

(not necessary but cute details): Add some yarn-hair around the head if you prefer. Maybe you like a light blush at the cheeks – use a fabric marker in light rose color and add a blush underneath the eyes carefully.

Congrats! You made it!
