Lagna lord in various houses The first thing to be understood is that the results given here are part of “results that should be derived considering house alone”. i.e. It is part of “House based result derivation” which is part of 7-fold prediction system. Therefore questions such as ‘what if the lord of the sign is malefic or benefic?’, ‘What if malifics or benefics aspect the lagna lord?’ etc won’t be addressed here, if not the same is mentioned in the sloka itself. With this understanding let us proceed with our study of house based prediction. Ancient texts like Skanda Hora does not give much importance to predictions based on house alone, even though the same was well known as considered as part of basic knowledge. But later texts such as Parasara Hora, Meenaraja Hora etc attribute much importance to this method. It should also be mentioned that various versions of Parsara Hora gives slokas with slight differences. So were ever necessary I will quote the other available versions of the sloka as well. Even though the same is discussed in many other texts as well we will discuss this subject giving importance to two major texts, Parasara Hora and Meenaraja hora. Another good reference in this context is Hora Pradeepam, which too I will quote in all the relevant situations. If the same word is copied repeatedly without understanding meaning, celebrate will become celibate, shirt will become shit, and Ukraine will become urine. The various versions of the slokas from one text, found in various manuscripts and various secondary texts got into shape like this. The first wrote the sloka, the second copied it without knowing or caring for the meaning - and erred. The third corrected the sloka, assuming a new word in place, and process goes on! The end result - the original sloka must have deviated a lot, or we will have different versions of the same sloka, and everybody will argue that it is from the original text. This situation is the absolutely right for Parasara Hora and Meenaraja Hora. Parasara hora is available - but no 2 versions match! Only one printed version of Meenaraja Hora is avail-

able, but there are many secondary references in which the original slokas are quoted - Hora Ratnam, Jataka Saradeepam, Hora Pradeepam to mention some - but they don’t match! I have taken care to provide the at least 2 versions of Parasara’s sloka in most of the instances. In the case of Meenaraja Hora I always cross referenced the sloka with the versions of the same available in printed versions of Hora Ratnam, Jataka Saradeepam to select the most authentic, and quoted the different version in case of notable difference. Please note that my reference texts for collecting this slokas were, * Various versions of Parasara Hora (Note that Santanam and Jha versions of BPHS does not provide these sloaks) * Hora Ratnam * Jataka Saradeepam * Available printed version of Meenaraja Hora Hope this effort is fruitful and the same would benefit the learners. Let us meditate on the subject we are going to discuss for a moment. ¦ÉÉ´ÉÉänÂù¦É´ÉÉÊxÉ Ê´ÉÊ´ÉvÉÉxªÉÖÊSÉiÉÉÊxÉ ªÉº¨ÉÉiÉ ¶ÉɺjÉÉxiÉ®úÉnÂù @ñʹÉMÉhÉÉ oùfø¤ÉÖrùªÉºiÉÖ ªÉÉxªÉä´É ¦ÉÉ´É ¡ò±ÉªÉÉäMɴɶÉÉnÂù ´ÉnùÎxiÉ ¤ÉÖÂùvªÉÉ ºÉ¨ÉÒIªÉ Ê´ÉnÖù¹ÉÉÆ iÉÖ ¨ÉÖnäù Eò®úÉäʨÉ** [Sages with balanced intelligence, tells us about the results that originate from the relation between various houses. I am discussing those results that originate from ‘correlation of houses’ (results that are derived based on houses alone) here. Evaluate them using your intelligence (accept if found valuable, otherwise reject). I am doing it for the benefit of the learned ones (who want to approach this subject systematically)] Let us see what these sages have to say about the results to be predicted for Lagna lord in various houses.

Lagna lord in Lagna Lagna lord in lagna usually bestow good results. The native would be healthy, courageous and kind hearted. All the well-be-

ings would be enjoyed by him, including women and life abroad. He will enjoy all kinds of luxury in life including women. He would be wealthy and will enjoy good longevity. Possibly he might have taken birth in a well to do family. Throughout his life he will have a wealthy and happy life. Hereditarily he may have good amount of land property, or will gain good amount of land property in his life through self effort. Let us see how and why these derivations came into existance by going through the quotes from ancient texts. ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä ±ÉMxÉMÉä ¾þ¼]õ {ÉÖ¹]õÉÆMɶSÉ {É®úÉGò¨ÉÒ ¨Éxɺ´ÉÒ SÉÉÊiÉSÉ{ɱÉÉä Êuù¦ÉɪÉÇ& {É®úMÉÉä(+)Ê{É SÉ** - {É®úɶɮú½þÉ®ä úÉ [If lagna lord is in Lagna the native will be healthy and valorous, He would be a good hearted, pious individual. He would be uncertain in taking decisions, or may change his decisions occasionally. In other words he won’t be stable in his decisions. He may have 2 wives and might live abroad] It should be noted here that the having 2 wives should not be treated as a bad result in this case. What the sage wants to point out is that a planet placed in its own house (Swakshetra) can indicate two (Swakshetre dwi sam gunam = if in own house multiply by two; is a usual statement) and thus can indicate 2 wives, since that planet would be aspecting 7th house. Even if the native has 2 wives, or one wife and one extra marital relation, it should be noted that such a combination does not indicate diverse. The native would enjoy both the relations and only good things will for them all. Another version of the same sloka is quoted below ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä ±ÉMxÉMÉä {ÉÖƺÉ& º´Énäù½ º´É¦ÉÖVÉ{É®úÉGò¨ÉÒ ¨Éxɺ´ÉÒ SÉÉ\SɱªÉÉä Êuù¦ÉɪÉÇ& {É®úMÉÉäÊ{É ´ÉÉ** [If lagna lord is in Lagna the native will be healthy and would be efficient in demonstrating the power of his hands (his valor and efficiency

of using hands). (He will do much effort with his body and hands to attain success in life; healthy body healthy hands). He may have 2 wives and may live abroad] Here the specialty to be noted is the importance given to efficiency in using hands - the native could be a very good fighter (expert in using hands), or an expert professional (efficient in using hands expertly). Why life abroad is predicted if Lagna lord is in Lagna? I don’t have a clear answer to this question. May be it is because of the fact that lagna lord in lagna strengthens the possibilities of 9th and 10th house. It should be noted that both Parasara and Meenaraja supports this - so possibly this could be true. ±ÉMxÉÉÊvÉ{ÉÊiÉ®ú ±ÉMxÉä xÉÒ®úÉäMÉÆ nùÒPÉÇVÉÒÊ´ÉxÉÆ EÖò¯ûiÉä +ÊiɤɱɨɴÉxÉÒ{ÉËiÉ ´ÉÉ ¦ÉÚiªÉÉ ºÉ¨ÉÎx´ÉiÉÆ VÉÉiɨÉÂ** - ¨ÉÒxÉ®úÉVɽþÉä®úÉ (½þÉä®úÉ®úixÉÆ, VÉÉiÉEòºÉÉ®únùÒ{É&) [If lagna lord is in Lagna, the native will not have any disease (he would be healthy), and will have good longevity. He would be very strong and will live with radiance (took brith in a well to do family). He could be a king or a rich man (i.e. he will take birth in a wealthy family and lead a wealthy life)] The new points mentioned in this sloka are - the native will have good longevity, he will take birth in a well to do family, he will live a wealthy life. Let us see what Hora Pradeepam has to say in this regard. ±ÉMxÉÉÊvÉ{ÉÊiɱÉÇMxÉä xÉÒ®úÉäMÉÆ nùÒPÉÇVÉÒÊ´ÉiÉÆ EÖò¯ûiÉä +ÊiɤɱɨɴÉxÉÒ{ÉËiÉ ´ÉÉ ¦ÉÚ±ÉɦɺɨÉÎx´ÉiÉÆ VÉÉiÉÆ** - ½þÉä®úÉ |ÉnùÒ{ɨÉ (VÉÉiÉEòºÉÉ®únùÒ{É&) [If lagna lord is in Lagna, the native will not have any disease (he would be healthy), and will have good longevity. The doubt that may arise in our mind is - Why land property is predicted if lagna lord is in Lagna? There is nothing new in this - lagna indicates the place in which the native is born and the land property associated with, similar to 4th house. This is a well-known fact. Naturally the placement of lagna lord in lagna indicates good house, good amount of land property, wealth and public respect. During the Dasa of lagna lord in lagna, the native will regain all his elegance, power, position and wealth - if the same is lost in during some other Dasa period. If lagna lord is in lagna, then naturally lagna is strong. There is some special prediction given in Phaladeepika, to be predicted if lagna is strong. It is a beautiful sloka ±ÉMxÉä ¤Éʱɹ`äö VÉMÉÊiÉ |ɦÉÖi´ÉÆ ºÉÖJÉκlÉËiÉ näù½þ¤É±ÉÆ ºÉÖ´ÉSSÉÇ& ={ɪÉÖÇ{ɪÉǦªÉÖnùªÉÉʦɴÉÞËrù |ÉÉ{xÉÉäÊiÉ ¤ÉɱÉäxnÖù´Énäù¹É VÉÉiÉ&** - ¡ò±ÉnùÒÊ{ÉEòÉ [If the lagna is strong, the native would be much wealthy. Well-being, health, radiance etc will follow. Like a new moon becoming stronger and stronger while progressing to be the full moon, the native improves his status, wealth and worldly well being as the age progresses] In this section, we are yet to mention any general rule that could be used throughout ‘House based result derivation’. The thumb rule followed isRule 1: Try to associate the significance of various houses in every possible way. For example if 2nd (money) lord is in 11th (gain), money gain should be predicted, if 2nd (money) lord is in 12th (loss), money loss should be predicted and so on. Note that it not a two way association, but a signle directional association. (I will come back to it later) If the house lord is in its own house, (e.g.: lagna lord in lagna) then, the significance of that house become stronger and all positive results related to the same would follow. Or in other words - if a house lord is in its own

house, the significance indicated by that house will materialize for sure. Note that all the good results derived for ‘lagna lord in lagna’ goes upside down - if lagna is afflicted by malifics. In that case the bad effects would be amplified since the afflicts effects both the lagna, and lagna lord in lagna at the same time, causing a double impact. If lagna lord is in lagna and lagna is afflicted (conjunction or aspect) by malifics the native would be weak, troubled by many diseases etc. Even though none of those health problems would be hazardous enough to cause extreme effects - we would be forced to make a check on the proposed good results for sure. Note this point - otherwise some day some one is going to tell you that ‘I have lagna lord in lagna - but most of the results predicted by you does not match with my actual experience’. But if you note the above point and apply trace the logic correctly you can escape this possible pitfall of deriving wrong results. We know that lagna signifies things such as - Body, intelligence, head, property, life situation, native land, house, knowledge, wellbeing, popularity and many more things. Actually lagna alone can reflect the nature and significance allotted to all the houses in a nutshell. Lagna lord in lagna means, lagna is strong. Thus it indicates that most of the good results indicated by that horoscope is going to materialize, and the native is sure to have a prosperous life ahead. The above section outlines the strategy we would be following throughout the discussion regarding the placement of lagna lord in various other houses as well. The advantage with such a systematic approach is that, it sheds light on unexpected areas and provides new insights to us occasionally about the ideas the sages conveyed, that help us much in reconstructing this ancient system of knowledge as per their own view.

Lagna lord in 2nd House Lagna lord in 2nd House usually indicate good results. The native would be knowledgeable, will have luck and good earn-

4

ings, will be good natured and righteous. He will enjoy all kinds of luxury such as women and wealth. He would be respected by all for his good qualities. He will have good longevity. He might have a bit big (plump) body and will have a good status, position and authority. He will do many good deeds. Let us see how and why these derivations came into existance by going through the quotes from ancient texts. ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä vÉxÉMÉä Ê´ÉYÉÉä ±ÉɦɺÉÉèJªÉÉÎx´ÉiÉÉä(+)ÊxɶÉÆ ºÉÖ¶ÉÒ±ÉÉä vɨÉÇÊ´Éx¨ÉÉxÉÒ ¤É½Öþ¦ÉɪÉÉæ MÉÖhÉèªÉÖÇiÉ&** - {É®úɶɮú½þÉ®ä úÉ [If the lagna lord is in 2nd house, the native would be knowledgeable and will have much earnings and happiness for sure. He will have good habits, righteous. He will have good amount of self-respect and confidence. With all his good qualities he will enjoy all kinds of luxuries such as many wives] Here too it should be noted that ‘many wives’ is not predicted as a bad result, but as a good result. 2nd house can indicate marriage, home and many more things. Thus naturally the association of lagna lord with 2nd house can indicate extra marriages or many extra marital relations, if other combinations too support the same. But here also note that this combination is not going to give trouble to the native but rather it would just indicate his aura and influence among women. He would be much liked by women; with his homely talkative nature, beauty, knowledge and righteous behavior. Another version of the same sloka is quoted below ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä vÉxÉMÉä ±ÉɦÉä ºÉ±ÉɦÉ& {ÉÒÊb÷iÉÉä xÉ®ú& ºÉÖ¶ÉÒ±ÉÉä vɨÉÇÊ´Éx¨ÉÉxÉÒ ¤É½ÖþnùÉ®úMÉÖhÉèªÉÖÇiÉ&** [If the lagna lord is in 2nd or 11th house, the native would be troubled by extra earnings. He will have good habits, righteous; will have many good qualities and many wives]

Here the special points are the predictions * He would be troubled by extra earnings! * He will have many wives. The second point we have already discussed, but why should extra earnings trouble the native? May be this version of the sloka is wrong, we should verify this result. Let us see what others have to say about Lagna lord in 2 house. ±ÉMxÉ{ÉÊiÉ®Âú vÉxɦɴÉxÉä vÉxÉ´ÉxiÉÆ Ê´É{ÉÖ±ÉVÉÒÊ´ÉiÉÆ ºlÉÚ±ÉÆ ºlÉÉxÉ|ÉvÉÉxɨÉÊxɶÉÆÆ ºÉiEò¨ÉÇ®úiÉÆ xÉ®Æú EÖò¯ûiÉä** - ¨ÉÒxÉ®úÉVɽþÉä®úÉ (½þÉä®úÉ®úixÉÆ, ½þÉä®úÉ |ÉnùÒ{ɨÉÂ, VÉÉiÉEòºÉÉ®únùÒ{É&) [If the Lagna lord is in 2nd house, the native would be wealthy and would have good longevity. He will have a big (plump) body, good position and authority. He will do many good deeds] Longevity is predicted the lagna lord placed in 2nd aspects 8th house, and thus provides longevity. Placement of lagna lord in 2nd house (house of wealth and nourishment) can indicate a wealthy (increased) body - a well nourished body, and a special interest in consuming more food. He will have a good status, position and authority. Lagna lord in 2nd, a sustana (a good house) itself indicates that the native (signified by lagna lord) would be well placed. Hora Pradeepam just repeats the sloka of Meenaraja, thus supporting the same. We know that 2nd house signifies things such as - face, right eye, wealth, home, own house, self earned property, education, learning ability, extra earnings etc; generally good things. Thus lagna lord in 2nd house also indicates mostly good results.

Lagna lord in 3rd House Lagna lord in 3rd house could indicate many results. It is said that if so the native would be valorous like a lion. He will be proud of his abilities and would be very intelligent. He will acquire all kinds of wealth with his own efforts. He may have 2

5

wives, possibly the 2nd one from with in relatives. With many good relatives and strong friends he will lead a happy life. He would religious and would be much interested in doing good deeds. As a kind donor and helpful individual like Karna (of Mahabharata) he would help many. Definitely he would be a courageous and powerful individual. He would be surrounded and by strong friends; many strong and powerful ones will become his followers and supporters.

Thus in societies where marrying wife’s sister on death of wife or brother’s wife on brother’s death, 9th house can indicate 2nd marriage. If we make it a general statement - it can be said that ‘9th house can signify marriage from among relatives’. It should also be noted that in female horoscope -

Let us see how and why these derivations came into existance by going through the quotes from ancient texts.

Apart from these derivations that would be of use regarding marriage, 9th house also signify in male horoscopes -

±ÉMxÉä¶Éä ºÉ½þVÉä ªÉÉiÉä ˺ɽþiÉÖ±ªÉ {É®úÉGò¨ÉÒ ºÉ´ÉǺÉÆ{ÉtÖiÉÉä ¨ÉÉxÉÒ Êuù¦ÉɪÉÉæ ¨ÉÊiɨÉÉxÉ xÉ®ú&**

9th house = 3rd from 7th house (i.e. husband’s brother) 9th house = 7th from 3rd house (i.e. sister’s husband)

9th house = 3rd from 7th house (i.e. wife’s brother) 9th house = 7th from 3rd house (i.e. sister’s husband)

- {É®úɶɮúÉä½þÉä®úÉ [If lagna lord is in 3rd house, the native would be valorous like a lion. He will have all kinds of wealth, proud and intelligence. He will have 2 wives] 3rd house indicate valor, and that is why lagna lord in 3rd makes the native valorous. 3rd indicates wealth acquired through conquering enemies, and indulging in adventurous things. Being an upachaya house (Upachaya means ‘increase’), lagna lord in 3rd indicate increase of wealth or large amount of wealth acquired though such means. That is why it is said that he will have all kinds of wealth. He would be proud of his own abilities and would be intelligent. It should also be noted that a planet placed in 3rd aspects the 9th house. This connection of lagna lord with the 9th house makes him lucky. But why 2 wives? This demands further clarification.

Lagna lord in 3rd getting associated with 9th could indicate some possibilities, that may end up in marriage. That is why it is said that the native will have 2 wives. This is a cute derivation - which makes us wonder about the intuitive thinking strategy (of Bhavat Bhavam) used by the sages! These derivations also help us to lay down another important rule related to House based result derivation, as stated below-

As you may know as per Devakeralam, 9th house can indicate 2nd wife, because -

Rule 2: ‘Bhavat Bhavam’ principle should be given due importance while deriving predictions based on Houses alone.

9th house = 3rd from 7th house (i.e. wife’s sister) 9th house = 7th from 3rd house (i.e. brother’s wife)

whom the the husband ofcourse cannot marry. ;) In female horoscopes 9th also signify 9th house = 3rd from 7th house (i.e. brother’s wife) 9th house = 7th from 3rd house (i.e. husband’s sister) whom the the husband ofcourse can not marry. ;)

Bhavas (Houses) starts from Lagna onwards and counts up to 12th house. ‘Bhavat Bhavam’ (House to House) means, considering any House as anger point (starting point) and considering 12 houses

6

from there onwards. For example, taking 3rd house as anger point, 3rd house is brother’s body, 2nd house from 3rd (=4th house) is brother’s wealth, 3rd house from 3rd (=5th house) is brother’s courage, 4th house from 3rd (=6th house) brother’s house and so on. This leads us to the discussion of another related point. Think of this - 4th signify native’s mother. Then should it be considered that 6th (4th from 3rd) signify brother’s mother?! How can 4th indicate native’s mother and 6th indicate brother’s mother when there is only one mother for both of them?! Is it not absurd?! If you think about it in this way - then, yes, it is. But the absurdity sprigs not from the way the sages puts it but by the way you understand it. For the sages, the natal chart is nothing but a tool that reflects the mental picture of the native about the world. Thus it turns out that, actually 4th is not ‘the mother’, but rather 4th house in the natal chart reflect the native’s attitude or mental picture about his mother. That is why it is said that 4th signify native’s mother - it is not that ‘4th is native’s mother’. Similarly 6th can reflect the native’s brother’s attitude towards or his mental picture about the mother. That is why it can be said that 6th can signify native’s brother’s mother - it is not that ‘6th is native’s brother’s mother’. It is straight forward and clear that there is only one mother for native and his brother; but the natal chart (as an efficient tool) helps us to speak in detail about the native, his brother and their mother, and the attitude and opinion of these brother’s about their mother. If you fail to grasp this fundamental truth about the natal chart (or any astrological chart for that matter) your predictions may fail - your confusion will prevail. Point to note: Any astrological chart is only a tool that REFLECTS many things - like a watch that showing time. Never ever assume that it IS or that it CAUSES those results to happen or that IT IS something (E.g. 4th is mother - wrong; 4th signifies/ reflects mother - right). Watch reflects or shows time, but it is not time. By learning to derive results using various combinations in natal chart, we are learning to use the tool called natal chart, to

derive the results that are reflected in the natal chart in an efficient way. It is neither that natal chart causes something to happen, nor that the houses in natal chart are something. Our consciousness is whole (un-fragmented); the universe is whole; the natal chart reflects the whole; we are trying to grasp the whole with whole through holistic method. The natal chart is a tool that helps us to achieve the same - and we are learning to use it efficiently. If you miss this point - you will miss the essence of astrology and its beauty. Let us express it in another way - You know that lagna signify the whole body. But when we think about the body using natal chart, the lagna signify, 2nd house face, 3rd neck, 4th chest and so on upto 12th feet. But if we think about eye alone, then starting from 2nd house the whole chart becomes the eye of the native and provides us with the details of it! Thus it becomes wrong to say that - some particular sign/ house/planet alone signify something. The apart from lagna the whole chart can provide the details of body, apart from lagna house the whole chart can provide the details of head, apart form 2nd house the whole chart can provide the details of eye! That is why it is said, “Chart is just a tool (used by the tool called mind) to reflect the truth”. Not even think that above given is the only method to think about the body. If we think about the body using Drekkana, if lagna is in first drekkana all houses from lagna to 7th in clockwise direction (lagna, 1, 2, 3 etc upto 7th) signify the right part of the face, and all houses from lagna to 7th in anti-clockwise direction (lagna, 12th, 11th and so on upto 7th) signify the left part of the face. If lagna is in second drekkana - ok, It is better that I shouldn’t stretch it as you have already got the point. Almost any house in a chart can signify some thing - for example all the 12 houses signify some or other kind of education, all the 12 houses could some how at times signify the 2nd marriage, all the 12 houses can signify going abroad for various purposes. Thus it is no wonder that more than one house can signify or reflect the truth about native’s mother. While trying to derive results using the 7-fold meth-

7

odology, don’t become stiff in approach not allowing the whole to reflect through yourself. As we have all learned science and its analytical methodologies, in all the approaches this stiffness (possibly caused by the analytical approach) coming into play. It is always a possibility. But the truth to be remembered is that as the students of astrology and holistic methods - to be true in our approach - we should follow the methodologies suggested by astrology and its holistic approach. Otherwise truth and true result derivation possibilities will slip through our fingers. While training the mind to master this technique - of reflecting the whole with the whole - try to avoid the stiffness caused by analytical method to the maximum and try to be in tune with the holistic approach. Compartmentalization such as ‘I will think of this (e.g. cloth) using this planet and this house this sign ONLY” and ‘any other sign/ house/planet signifying the same is impossible’ kind of approach should be avoided. This approach is an example for the stiffness I mentioned above - which is NOT part of fluid and flexible holistic method. In holistic method, same result indicated by many combinations is what gains importance. Naturally the urge of mind comes into play saying ‘see, this that and that reflect the same thing. It should be true. say it’ and thus takes birth the prediction.

trologer derives the results. In applying every one of the above possibilities he uses the analytical approach, but the final result sprig from his holistic understanding. Astrologer is ‘Oohapoha patu’ (master of analytical and holistic thinking strategies) - for a single derivation he uses analytical thinking and for the whole holistic thinking. His foundations are not on fact but on concepts. Analysis and Integration is fundamental to his approach to thinking and result derivation; the stress being on integration. He know well that that he is trying to reflect the whole using the holistic method in his fragmented mind and that the stiffness should be avoided. He knows that he is trying to crate an integrated (non-fragmented) self, and that only in such a self the whole can truly reflect itself. All the prayers, all the preparations prior to prediction, all the study, all the observation, all the methodologies are just to prepare the ground for the integration to happen, this reflection of the whole to happen - that alone can truly help the astrologer in deriving the true result. Note that without fuel (eg. wood) the fire won’t burn - similarly the without study, without fundamental astrological knowledge, the true holistic reflection of truthful astrological derivations in mind can not happen. Every true astrologer know this - and that is why all this effort after study and meditation. Simply stated -

Think that somebody asks the astrologer to say how his feet would be. For the astrologer -

Individual 1: fragmented study, ego raises, self become fragmented

1) 12th from Lagna is feet. - 1st strategy 2) 12th from Aries is feet - 2nd strategy 3) Saturn signify feet - 3rd strategy 4) Sign signify something about feet - 4th strategy 5) All houses form 12th signify feet! - 5th strategy Astrologer might know about some of these strategies and not about something else. For sure he know ‘Bhava Chinta’ (House based thinking) and ‘Bhavat Bhava Chinta’ (House to House thinking). He know which planet could signify what. Combining these two the as-

Result 1: predictions go astray (whole fail to reflect) Individual 2: detailed study, meditation, humbleness evolves, self become integrated. Result 2: predictions become true (whole reflect in whole) That much about detailed study, integration and holistic approach; that much about avoiding stiffness and grasping the view of astrology; that much about ‘Bhavat Bhavam’. Now let us go back to our discussion on lagna lord in 3rd house and continue the same. Another version of the above discussed Parasara’s sloka is also available - the same is given below.

The 3rd house signifies things such as - brothers, followers, servants, friends and relatives, valor, short journeys, religious nature etc. Thus the placement of lagna lord in 3rd generates special importance to the derivations related to the same.

Lagna lord in 4th House If lagna lord is in 4th house, the native will live along with his father and mother. They would be very loving and affectionate towards him. Both his mother and father would be healthy and will have good longevity. He will have many brothers. He will have - high sexual urges, life loving nature, good qualities and beauty. In short he will love worldly life, affections and happiness gained from the same. There is a possibility that instead of going abroad etc in search of livelihood, he will live in his native land itself in his joint family along with his relatives such as mother, father, brother, sisters and other relatives nearby the house. The king would favor the native. He will have good longevity; accumulate much wealth; love his father; and will eat a lot. ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä iÉÖªÉÇMÉä VÉÉiÉÉä ¨ÉÉiÉÞºÉÉèJªÉºÉ¨ÉÎx´ÉiÉ& ¤É½Öþ§ÉÉiÉÞªÉÖiÉ& EòɨÉÒ MÉÖhɺÉÉèxnùªÉǺÉƪÉÖiÉ&** - {É®úɶɮú½þÉ®ä úÉ [If lagna lord is in 4th house, the native will have much happiness from mother (His mother would be healthy. 9

urges, life loving nature, good qualities and beauty (in short he will love worldly life, affections and happiness gained from the same)] Why ‘many brothers’? As we know it is 3rd that signify brothers. What 4th has to do with brothers? The simple point to note here is that 4th strengthens the qualities of 3rd house; that is why ‘many brothers/co-born’. The same applies to all the other houses as well. The second house from any house, strengthen the qualities of the previous house. This is a very important rule and we will see that in housebased prediction, the sages derive many results based on the same. The same is true for the next derivation given in the sloka - ‘He will have - high sexual urges’. Why should lagna lord in 4th increase sexual urge? What relation 4th has with sex - usually signified by 6th and 7th? The answer is - increase in sexual urge is derived since 3rd house also signifies sexual urge. Note that, it is well known, 3-6-11 are known as the sexual triangle (Kama trikona). Thus lagna lord in 4th increase the qualities of 3rd, for example, increases the number of brothers, sexual urge and so on. Rule 3: The 2nd house from any house strengthens the effects of the house prior to it (E.g. 2nd house strengthens Lagna, 3rd house 2nd, 4th house strengthens 3rd and so on) This raises the questions - Could it be said that 7th house strengthens the diseases signified by 6th? Could it be said that 9th house strengthens the bad effects (poverty, death, health problems, unhappiness) signified by 8th? Could it be said that lagna (body) strengthens the sadness, and fall signified by 12th house? What do you say? The answer is - Yes. Marriage, sexuality, tensions of married life etc definitely causes diseases and disorders to emerge. To make the individual weak. But also don’t forget that all these including sexuality are blessings, which helps us to sustain the thread of life by creating the next generation. The lucky man is the poorest one - his poverty is not worldly but psychological. He got everything without effort, and for sure he would still feel that he is still lacking something, he is suffer-

ing from mental poverty and the happiness lacked due to lacking selfeffort. 9th is destiny, 9th is god, 9th is religion - yes of course all these strengthens death, moving you closer to death, psychologically, and may be worldly as well. One’s world is nothing but a contaminated reflection of the reality in his psych. 12th signifies Moksha - the ultimate bliss. Taking a body, taking birth, having a lagna definitely strengthens that and another quality of 12th - i.e. sadness. Why? Taking birth with a body in this world helps you to search for Moksha, attain Moksha thus strengthening it. Taking birth moved you away from the ultimate bliss, the eternal reality and that is why it strengthens the sadness. You may argue for any length - in support of or against - this. But answer and opinion of the sages is a definite - Yes. Such glimpses helps us to understand that astrology is a path to the ultimate, a method to grasp the whole, a method to teach you to grasp the whole within and outside. True astrology is nothing but another road of spirituality; another road to truth, the ultimate. Another version of this sloka of sage Parasara is also available ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä nù¶É¨Éä iÉÖªÉæ Ê{ÉiÉÞ¨ÉÉiÉÞºÉÖJÉÉÎx´ÉiÉ& ¤É½Öþ§ÉÉiÉÞªÉÖiÉ& EòɨÉÒ MÉÖhɺÉÉèèxnùªÉǺÉƪÉÖiÉ&** [If the lagna lord is in 4th or 10th house, the native will get much happiness from his father and mother. He will have many bothers. He will have - high sexual urges, life loving nature, good qualities and beauty] The special point to be noted is that - If lagna lord is in 4th the native will get much happiness from father as well. Why? As you know 4th signify mother. Lagna lord (native) in 4th (house signifying mother) indicate the close attachment between native and his mother. This also indicates that the native will always maintain close contact with the family in which he took birth. 7th house from 4th house signify the mother’s husband - i.e. the native’s father. Note that by this method we find that the 10th house (7th from 4th) signify the native’s father! If we realize that 10th house can signify father, our doubt on ‘why hap-

10

piness from father if lagna lord in 4th?’ gets spontaneously clarified. Any planet in 4th aspects 10th house or vise versa. It is this mutual relation between 4th (mother) and 10th (father), that prompts the sage to derive the derivation ‘if lagna lord is in 4th the native will get much happiness from both his father and mother’. For sure he will live along with his father and mother possibly in his native land itself. 4th house increasing the strength of 3rd - thus giving many brothers and high sexual urge is discussed earlier as well. But don’t forget to note a related rule Rule 4: Lagna lord in any house increases the beneficial results of that house. Lagna lord in any house is good for the house - but this is not true the other way round. For example lagna lord in 6th may be good for the good things signified by 6th house. But definitely it is not good for lagna (the native) itself. Because the native will have to suffer many bad things signified by 6th house as well in that case. Lagna lord in any house brigs good results for that house; strengthens that house; amplifies the significance of that house; indicates that the results indicates by that house will definitely actualize; indicates that the results indicates by that house will become beneficial to the native. Note that lagna lord in 2nd makes the native wealthy and not poor; lagna lord in 3rd gave many brothers and not less brothers; lagna lord is 4th made the native life loving and not life negating. Let us see what Meenaraja has to say about lagna lord in 4th house. ±ÉMxÉä¶ÉºiÉÖªÉÇMÉiÉÉä xÉÞ{ÉÊ|ɪÉÆ |ÉSÉÖ®úVÉÒÊ´ÉiÉÆ {ÉÖ¯û¹ÉÆ ºÉ±±ÉΤvɪÉÖiÉÆ Ê{ÉjÉÉä¦ÉÇHÆò ¤É½Öþ¦ÉÉäVÉxÉÆ EÖò¯ûiÉä** - ¨ÉÒxÉ®úÉVɽþÉä®úÉ (½þÉä®úÉ®úixÉÆ) [If lagna lord is in 4th house, the native would be favored by the king. He will have good longevity; accumulate much wealth; love his father; and will eat a lot] To day there are no kings - but instead governments and authorities are ruling. Therefore the word ‘king’ should be properly trans-

lated either as ‘government’ or as ‘people in power’. Thus the sloka tells us that the - if lagna lord is in 4th, the native would be favored by the government or people in power. Why longevity? 4th is a sustana, a beneficial house, and a well placed lagna lord in such a good house can of course indicate health and longevity. Apart from this, note that lagna lord in 4th strengthens 3rd house, which is 8th from 8th (the house of longevity). 3rd house is also considered as the house of longevity, due to its special importance as 8th from 8th (longevity house of longevity house). Thus strengthening of 3rd house (by lagna lord placed in 4th house) clearly indicate increased longevity. Accumulate much wealth: wealth is signified by 4th. Lagna lord in 4th increases the beneficial results of 4th, thus providing the ability to accumulate much wealth. Love his father: 10th house can signify father being 7th from 4th (mother’s husband). Lagna lord in 4th aspects 10th house and that is why it is said that ‘if lagna lord is in 4th house the native will love his father’. Will eat a lot: Good food, life loving nature, a special interest in good smell and taste is all signified by 4th house. 3 house signifies the craving for strength and urge for things, which the lagna lord in 4th strengthens. All these together provides the native a special interest in good food and eating. Note that 4th house is upachaya (increase) house from 2nd, the house signifying mouth and food. Hora pradeepam quotes the same sloka of Meenaraja without much notable difference. ±ÉMxÉä¶ÉºiÉÖªÉÇMÉiÉÉä xÉÞ{ÉÊ|ɪÉÆ |ÉSÉÖ®úVÉÒÊ´ÉiÉÆ {ÉÖ¯û¹ÉÆ ºÉ±±É¤vɺÉÖJÉÆÆ Ê{ÉjÉÉä®ú¦ÉHÆò ¤É½Öþ¦ÉÉäVÉxÉÆ EÖò¯ûiÉä** - ½þÉä®úÉ|ÉnùÒ{ɨÉÂ(VÉÉiÉEòºÉÉ®únùÒ{É&) [If lagna lord is in 4th house, the king would favor the native. Select the proper word based on actual experience observed. The 4th house signifies things such as - mother, happiness, simplicity of mind, love and affection, native land, gardens, pilgrim places with lakes or sea, Kuladaiva (family deity), furniture and groceries, maternal house, chest, heart etc. Thus the placement of lagna lord in 4th generates special importance to the derivations related to the same.

Lagna lord in 5th House If langna lord is in 5th, the native would be proud an individual with much self-respect and reputation and a bit angry but righteous and kind. He will have many children. He may have moderate well-being from children and may lose his first child as well, especially if there is some malefic influence on 5th house. He would be dear to the people with power and authority. He will have good authority or rulership and will enjoy a good eventful and enjoyable life. Bestowed with good quolities, he will do many good deeds. ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä {ÉÖjÉMÉä GòÉävÉÒ ºÉÖiɺÉÉèJªÉÆ SÉ ¨ÉvªÉ¨ÉÆ |ÉlɨÉÉ{ÉiªÉxÉɶÉ& ºªÉÉx¨ÉÉxÉ´ÉÉxÉ ®úÉVɴɱ±É¦É&** - {É®úɶɮú½þÉ®ä úÉ [If langna lord is in 5th, the native would be angry; will have moderate well-being from children. The native will lose his first child. He would be a proud individual with much self-respect and reputation. He would be dear to the king] Why should lagna lord going to 5th should make the native an angry and aggressive individual? One of the logic behind could be 5th is 3rd from 3rd house; and Upachaya (increase) stana of 3rd

house. 3rd house signify anger and possibly that is why lagna lord in 5th increases the anger and agitation of the native. But also not that 5th is 2nd house from 4th (simple and humble mind) making the native a straight forward individual. It is also mentioned in the sloka that the native will lose his first child - why? The natural expectation would be that lagna lord in 5th should bestow good results for 5th, thus providing children and happiness from children to the native. Of course if lagna lord is in 5th is aflicted by some malefic, then it would have double impact, since the same would affect both the 5th house and the lagnalord amplifying the possibility for bad result. Since 5th could signify the first child the bad result could be attributed to the first child as well. Actually this is what we see mentioned in Meenaraja hora. But Parasara provides no such clue about any required malefic influence in 5th house! We are wonder stuck by this derivation, and we nat fail to imagine any solid reason behind such a derivation in the absence of any malific influnce on 5th house. Another version of the same sloka is available, which also provides similar results. ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä {ÉÖjÉMÉä ¨ÉÉxÉÒ ºÉÖiɺÉÉèJªÉÆ SÉ ¨ÉvªÉ¨ÉÆ |ÉlɨÉÉ{ÉiªÉxÉɶÉ& ºªÉÉ±É GòÉävÉÒ®úÉVÉ|É´Éä¶ÉEò&** [If langna lord is in 5th, the native would be proud; will have moderate well-being from children. He will lose his first child. He would be angry and will have special privilages in the king’s place] Apart from minor differences this sloka gives almost same results as above. It seems that, the loss of first child should be predicted only if there is a malefic influence in 5th house, since the other available slokas give good results concerning children if lagna lord is in 5th house. [Note that similar to in this sloka Parasara will not mention ‘if the lagna lord is malefic and placed in x house’ in many other slokas as well. We will encounter this writing style related issue in many other instances as well] Let us see what Meenaraja has to say. {É\SɨÉMÉÉä ±ÉMxÉ{ÉÊiÉ& ºÉºÉÖiÉÆ ºÉiªÉÉMɨÉÒ·É®Æú Ê´ÉÊnùiÉÆ ¤É½ÖþVÉÒÊ´ÉiÉÆ ºÉÖ¶ÉÒ±ÉÆ ºÉÖEò¨ÉÇÊxÉ®úiÉÆ xÉ®Æú EÖò¯ûiÉä**

Select the proper word based on actual experience observed. Note that as per Meenaraja lagna lord in 5th ‘provides children’ and does not ‘destroy children’. Even though Parasara only says that ‘lose of first child could happen’, he too does not say that ‘the native will not have children’. If we combine the statements of both Parasara and Meenaraja the only conclusion we could reach is ‘The native will have children, but he may loss his first child as well’. But it should be noted that the loss of first child does not seems to be logically supported in the absence of malefic influence on 5th house - this was my intial inference. (An amentment is proposed later) The sloka provided by Hora Pradeepam is almost the same as that of Meenaraja. {É\SɨÉMÉÉä ±ÉMxÉ{ÉÊiÉ& ºÉºÉÖiÉÆ ºÉiªÉÉMɨÉÒ·É®Æú Ê´ÉÊnùiÉÆ ¤É½ÖþVÉÒÊ´ÉiÉÆ SÉ ºÉÖÊJÉxÉÆ ºÉÖEò¨ÉÇÊxÉ®úiÉÆ xÉ®Æú iÉxÉÖiÉä** - ½þÉä®úÉ|ÉnùÒ{ɨÉ (VÉÉiÉEòºÉÉ®únùÒ{É&) [If lagna lord is in 5th house, the native will have children, righteous and kind. He will have good authority or rulership and will enjoy a good eventful and happy life. Bestowed with good quolities, he will do many good deeds] Parasara says that Lagna lord in 5th would make the native angry - why? Clearly any direct logic is not visible. Sun is the natural significator of Lagna. If we are considering lagna lord in 5th as similar to sun in 5th, then the above derivation would be justified and possibly the lose of first child as well. But is it a correct approach? I am doubtful. Only verifying the actual results from charts with similar combination can

shed some light on this issue. Rule 5: Lagna lord in any house should be treated similar to Sun in that house, since Sun is the natural significator of Lagna. I am a bit doubtful about the validity of the above rule. If not supported by actual results it is better to ignore the above rule. The logic supplied till now does not seem to be cabale enough to satisfactorily exmpalin the strong resuls proposed by Parasara such as - Lagna lord in 5th causing the loss of first child; it will also make the native an angry individual. There should be some other logic as well. On retrospect we feel that - Parasara will not say something without a sold reason. Why should he bring planets base result (e.g. benefic/malefic) into it, when he was dealing with House base prediction? That is not logical. There could be some other in-depth reason. Yes, you are right - there is. Let us analyze all the all the possible houses and lagna lord in their fifth house, and check whether the same can cause the loss of child 1) Aries lagna, lagna lord Mars in Leo: Yes, Leo is a sign signifying less children, and Mars a malefic in it can indicate loss of child for sure. 2) Taurus lagna, lagna lord Venus in Virgo: Virgo is the debilitation sign for Venus. Also not that Venus owns the lordship of 6th house as well. Thus for sure for Taurus lagna Venus in 5th can indicate loss of child for sure. 3) Gemini lagna, lagna lord Me in Libra: Note that Venus the lord of Libra owns the 12th house (house indicating death) as well. Possibly the combination can indicate loss or death. 4) Cancer lagna, Moon in Scorpio: Scorpio is the debilitation sign for Moon. Ofcourse the same can indicate the loss of child. 5) Leo lagna, Sun in Sagittarius: Note that the lord of Sagittarius

13

Jupiter owns the 8th house (death) as well. Thus certainly the combination can indicate the loss or death of child. 6) Virgo lagna, Me in Capricorn: The lord of Capricorn Saturn owns the 6th house as well. Possibly the combination can indicate bad results such as loss of child - amended by the fact that both Mercury and Saturn are imbecile planets. 7) Libra lagna, Venus in Aquarius: Note that lagna lord Venus is also the 8th lord. Certainly 8th lord is a malefic, and a malefic placed in 5th can indicate lose of child. If you continue this analysis, you could see that for most of the 12 signs, lagna lord placed in 5th can indicate the loss of child, even though the same does not match perfectly for Aquarius and Pisces Lagna. Thus it becomes clear that Parasara was not making a statement without base or without understanding. His derivation sprung from the deep understanding that ‘for all the 12 signs, lagna lord in 5th is not favorably placed, and this can be crystallized into the brief statement - lagna lord in 5th can indicate bad results such as - loss of first child and anger’. Then is it that Meenaraja was wrong and Parasara was right? No, it is not so. Meenaraja was deriving a result based on the prime condition – Lagna lord in 5th alone. For this prime combination Meenaraja’s derivation is absolutely right. But Parasara’s amendment springs from his deep understanding of the zodiac. He knew that the general statement regarding lagna lord in other houses may not be completely true for lagna lord in 5th, due to essential mutually corelated nature of the signs itself. So his opinion would be, ‘Yes, Meenaraja is right. But you know the Signs in Zodiac, they have some specific connection to death as far as 5th house is concerned. So your general derivation as proposed by Meenaraja will not work in this case. Consider this special nature of 5th from all the signs and modify your derivation accordingly. The you will see that, lagna lord in 5th can signify many bad results such as loss of first child and anger’. It must be this deeper understanding which prompted Parasara to sug-

gest such a result. Yes, Meenaraja is right, but Parasara is also not off the mark. Meenaraja is concerned with the general logic of the derivation only, but Parasara goes deeper in the general zodiacal context. Note it - possibly in other situations as well the same could be the case - Parasara has a better understanding about the zodiacal context, and may mix it with general result derivation. His thought and understanding penetrates into deaths; and is more far and wide. He is not depended on mere logic alone - he is more practical. It is because of this in-depth understanding, Parasara is termed a sage, but Meenaraja a king, a scholar. But even this understanding of Parasara view does not does not allow me to pardon him - because here to derive the result he mixed the methods of Sign-House Base result derivation, while dealing with House Base result derivation - causing confusion to the learner. I would suggest that, in this context, the beginners should stick to the cleaner and systematic approach proposed by Meenaraja, while trying to master House Base result derivation technique. The deeper possibilities and modification to the suggested results should dealt with and understood, while trying to learn Sign-House Base result derivation technique. The 5th house signifies things such as - children, intelligence, creativity, genius, stomach, belly, ministers, secret hymns recited etc. Thus the placement of lagna lord in 5th generates special importance to the derivations related to the same.

Lagna lord in 6th House If lagna lord is in 6th house, it amplifies results such as courage, attack by enemies and counter attack by the native, increase of the winning and competitive ability of the native etc. But bad results such as diseases, health problems, continuous problems caused by enemies, economic problems, court cases, warrants, indulging in unintended and unnecessary activities and catching trouble, loss of position and power etc will also happen. Physical

14

attack by enemy is a possibility. He would be valorous like a lion and will enjoy all kinds of luxuries including women. He would be much proud of his tactics and abilities and will lead a happy life. He may indulge in multiple affairs. ±ÉMxÉÉÊvÉ{Éä(+)Ê®úMÉä {ÉÉ{ÉOɽþªÉÖHäòÊIÉiÉä(+)Ê{É ´ÉÉ ¶ÉjÉÉä& {ÉÒb÷É ¦É´ÉäkɺªÉ Eò¹]Æõ ¶ÉÉ®úÒÊ®úEÆò iÉlÉÉ** - {É®úɶɮú½þÉ®ä úÉ [If lagna lord is in 6th house and is aspected or conjunct by malefic as well, then trouble would be caused by enemies; health problems and physical attacks by enemies may also happen] Note that lagna lord in 6th is good for 6th, since it amplifies results such as courage, attack by enemies and counter attack by the native, increase of the winning and competitive ability of the native etc. But is not good for Lagna itself or in other words native itself, since the same would cause diseases, health problems, continuous problems caused by enemies, economic problems, court cases, warrants, indulging in unintended and unnecessary activities and catching trouble, loss of position and power etc. If we miss this point we will fail to understand the essence Parasara is trying to convey. Rule 6: If lagna lord in 6-8-12 (malefic houses) it is good for things signified by those houses, but will cause bad results for Lagna (native) itself. Another version of the Parasara’s sloka (which is quoted earlier as well) confirms this. ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä ºÉ½þVÉä¹É¹`äö ˺ɽþiÉÖ±ªÉ {É®úÉGò¨ÉÒ ºÉ´ÉǺÉÆ{ÉtÖiÉÉä ¨ÉÉxÉÒ Êuù¦ÉɪÉÉæ ¨ÉÊiɨÉÉxÉ ºÉÖJÉÒ** [If the lagna lord is in 3rd or 6th house, the native would be valorous like a lion. He will have all kinds of wealth, and would be proud (of his abilities). He will lead a happy life and will have 2 wives] Note that if lagna lord is 6th, the valor of the native increases resulting in wealth acquired by all kinds of means - possibly military

conquests (if in ancient period). The presence of many planets in 6th along with lagna lord makes the native a cruel individual with out any mercy. It is this conquering attitude without mercy that provides him wealth - and not the natural means. Why 2 wives? Note that if lagna lord is in 6th then, as per ‘Bhavat Bhavam’, 7th lord from 7th is in 12th from 7th, indicating an incapable and non-understanding husband for his wife. Lagna lord in 6th makes the native interested in prostitutes, many wives, indulging in too much bed/sexual activities and trying to derive happiness from those mere physical relationships. That is lagna lord in 6th makes the native immoral. His wife won’t be satisfied with him or his activities due to this and a split in relationship would follow. This could be the reason for and the logic behind the derivation - if lagna lord is in 6th the native will have 2 wives. Why two? Note that 6th is an even sign from lagna indicating even numbers, the prime possibility being two as far as wives are concerned. Ê®ú{ÉÖ¦ÉÉ´Éä ±ÉMxÉä¶ÉÉä xÉÒ®úÉäMÉÆ ¦ÉÚʨɱÉÉʦÉxÉÆ ºÉ¤É±É¨É EÞò{ÉhÉÆ vÉÊxÉxɨÉÊ®úPxÉÆ ºÉÖEò¨ÉÇ{ÉIÉÉÎx´ÉiÉÆ EÖò¯ûiÉä** - ¨ÉÒxÉ®úÉVɽþÉä®úÉ (½þÉä®úÉ®úixÉÆ, ½þÉä®úÉ|ÉnùÒ{ÉÆ, VÉÉiÉEòºÉÉ®únùÒ{É&) [If lagna lord is in 6th house, the native would be without disease. He would be stringy and will not remember the helps done to him by his friends or relatives. He would be much wealthy and will destroy the enemies. He will stand by the side of people who do good deeds] We can find two contradictory derivations in the above slokacontradicting our normal expectations. * If lagna lord is in 6th the native would be without disease - It is simply a logically impossible derivation and is contradictory to Parasara’s quote! But there is a better way of understanding it. The point is - even though not much healthy, the native won’t get

15

easily affected by diseases. But definitely he may end up by a strong disease. It is similar to his enemies - if lagna lord is in 6th, he will always have enemies, but usually defeats them for sure, and enjoys the fight. Similarly if lagna lord is in 6th, he will have diseases for sure, but he will not be easily defeated or troubled by them, but instead he will start enjoying the occasional attack of diseases and will not mind them much! It should also be noted that like a big defeat caused by a strong enemy, there is always a chance of a major disease putting an end to his life. * He will stand by the side of people who do good deeds - this too is logically impossible and contradictory to Parasara’s quote. We know that if lagna lord is in 6th, the native would be cruel and blood thirsty. His wealth is accumulated though his valor, ability to take risk and adventure, attack and conquer. How could it be said that such an individual will stand by the side of good deeds?! That is not his nature - but yes, it is possible that to attain his aims he will use, and stand by (in a strategic view) the side of good. It is not that he is good, but rather he is using the side in favor of good to achieve his selfish goals. Another point to note here is that, the lagna lord in 6th house makes the native stingy-minded and cruel-minded. Actually the same is applicable to all the houses. If lagna lord in Lagna, the native is body minded; i.e. almost a narsist, much interested in his own body and beauty. If lagna lord is in 2nd house the native would be money-minded; If in 3rd valor-minded; if in 4th simple-minded; if in 5th creative-minded; if in 6th cruel-minded and so on. If we state it as a general rule, it could be stated that Rule 7: Lagna lord in any house makes the native so-minded (In lagna body-minded; in 2nd money-mined; in 3rd valorminded; in 4th simple-minded as so on) Even though the above rule is applicable everywhere in a general way, stretching this rule further without fluidness is not appreciated.

The bad results that should be derived if lagna lord is in 6-8-12 houses is well clarified by a Phaladeepika sloka. The same is quoted below nÖùºlÉä ±ÉMxÉ{ÉiÉÉè ÊxÉ®úÉävÉxɨÉÖ{ÉèiªÉYÉÉiÉ´ÉɺÉÆ ¡ò±ÉÆ ´ªÉÉvªÉÉvÉÒÊxÉiÉ®úÊGòªÉÉʦÉMɨÉxÉÆ ºlÉÉxÉSªÉÖÊiÉ\SÉÉ{ÉnÆù** - ¡ò±ÉnùÒÊ{ÉEòÉ [If lagna lord is in malefic houses such as 6-8-12, the could be stay or warrants against the native. He would have to hide from many. Diseases would trouble him. He will indulge in activities that were unnecessary, or not directly related to him in any way, and the same would cause trouble. He will lose his position and reputation due to all this and may have to leave his native place] The 6th house signifies things such as - enemy, diseases, debt, wounds, operation, fire, danger, attack and defense, navel region, sexual organs etc. Thus the placement of lagna lord in 6th generates special importance to the derivations related to the same.

Lagna lord in 7th House If lagna lord is in 7th, the native would be a righteous, radiant individual with good habits. His wife also would be radiant, beautiful and good-natured. If lagna lord is a malefic and is in 7th house, his wife will not live long, he may become uninterested in family life, wander to many places. These results will come true for any one irrespective of his financial status - even if he is a beggar or king all these results will fructify to him for sure. ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä ºÉ{iɨÉä GÚò®äú ¦ÉɪÉÉÇ iɺªÉ xÉ VÉÒ´ÉÊiÉ Ê´É®úHòÉä ´ÉÉ |É´ÉɺÉÒ ´ÉÉ nùÊ®úpùÉä ´ÉÉ xÉÞ{ÉÉä(+)Ê{É ´ÉÉ** - {É®úɶɮú½þÉ®ä úÉ [If lagna lord is in 7th house, his wife will not live long, he may become uninterested in family life or wander in many places (attachment for wife and family is lost). Even if he is a beggar or king all the results will

16

fructify to him for sure (The natives financial status could be either that of a poor man or that of a king or in between - it is irrelevant)] This is a difficult to understand derivation! If lagna lord is in 7th why the result ‘his wife will not live long’ should be derived? Since lagna lord in any house bestows good results to that house, the expected derivation would be ‘his wife will live long’ and also that ‘he will have a good, beautiful, righteous wife’. Actually it is exactly the result the other texts propose. Then why Parasara differ? Notice that we encountered a similar issue while dealing with 5th house as well. The point is - Parasara at times does not mention ‘if the lagna lord is malefic and placed in x house’, but the same should be assumed as the case may be - it is a precondition; something related to his presentation style. Thus the actual meaning would be - ‘if the lagna lord is a malefic and is placed in 7th house, his wife will not live long’. This is logical - a malefic in 7th is sure to cause problem for 7th house. Even if we look from 7th as per ‘Bhavat Bhavam’ then too, the maraka lord (7th is maraka stana) from 7th placed in 7th can cause bad results such as loss of interest or death. It becomes clear that it is the same result extended in the next derivation as well. That is ‘if the lagna lord is a malefic and is placed in 7th house, he may become uninterested in family life or wander in many places (attachment for wife and family is lost)’. Notice that 7th signifies wife, interest in sex and family life, journey to various places etc. A malefic placed in 7th with maraka lordship from 7th is sure to cause all these bad results such as - loss of interest in wife and sex and thus possibly loss of wife, interest in traveling to various places - possibly in an effort to be away from wife and family and so on. A double importance to derived results occur due to the involvement of 7th and 7th from 7th in the possible result derivation. We may blame Parasara for not mentioning the central fact ‘these results should be derived only if lagna lord is a malefic’; but it is evident even to a beginner with clear logic, and so the sage would be saved from such blames. If we mention that ‘you must have men-

tioned this’ then the question in retort by the sage would be - ‘if you don’t know even these basics, and understand the sloka in its unique context, if your logic is not even that much strong enough, how are you supposed to learn and derive complex results?’. Yes, he is absolutely right, and in all our efforts to understand the sage quotes let the context become clear to us - wherever it is not clearly mentioned. There is one more reason for lagna lord in 7th giving bad results notice that for all signs 7th house would be always owned by an enemy planet. Lagna lord placed in enemy house is sure to give bad results expected from the same. As per Phaladeepika the expected bad result for a planet in enemy house are MÉiÉä Oɽäþ ¶ÉjÉÖMÉÞ½Æþ ÊxÉEÞò¹]õiÉÉÆ {É®úÉzÉ´ÉÞËkÉ {É®ú¨ÉÎxnù®úκlÉËiÉ +ÊEò\SÉxÉi´ÉÆ Ê®ú{ÉÖ{ÉÒb÷xÉÆ ºÉnùÉ ÎºxÉMvÉÉä(+)Ê{É iɺªÉÉÊiÉ Ê®ú{ÉÖi´É¨ÉÉ{xÉÖªÉɱÉÂ** - ¡ò±ÉnùÒÊ{ÉEòÉ [If the planet is in his enemy house the same would cause - dirty life, dependence even for food on others, living in rented house, poverty, always trouble from enemies, even his well wishers become his enemy!] May be it is due to this deeper understanding, Parasara tells us that - ‘Even if he is a beggar or king all the results will fructify to him for sure’. Or in other words, the economic status of the native is irrelevant. Who ever he be, these results will follow for sure, ‘if a malefic lagna lord is placed in 7th’! Look at the confidence with which Parasara states that result! We should learn something from that confidence it seems - due to lack of understanding astrologers usually lack the confidence, while trying to derive results. Parasara is advising us - be confidant, be logical, and be bold! You are in the correct path - and the results you derive based on the path taught by us will reflect truth for sure! Yes, he derives his confidence from his ancestors - the sages like Skanda, Daksha and Vasishta - let follow the same path and gain confidence from such bold guidance and statements made by him.

Here to we cannot pardon the approach of Parasara - since he is bringing ‘planets’ and ‘nature of 7th sign from lagna’ (i.e. House-Planet Base results) into picture. Since he was discussing House Base results, this approach cannot be accepted. Therefore I would request learners to stick to the pure House Base derivation given by Meenaraja, and learn about the modifications Parasara suggested later while dealing with ‘House-Planet Base’ result derivation. Without causing any such unmentioned contextual complexity, Meenaraja provides the general results that should be attributed to lagna lord in 7th house. ±ÉMxÉ{ÉiÉÉè ºÉ{iɨÉMÉä iÉäVɺ´ÉÒ ¶ÉұɴÉÉxÉ ¦É´ÉäiÉ {ÉÖ¯û¹É& iÉnÂù ¦ÉɪÉÉÇ(+)Ê{É ºÉÖ¶ÉÒ±ÉÉ iÉäVÉ& EòʱÉiÉÉ ºÉÖ°ü{ÉÉ SÉ** - ¨ÉÒxÉ®úÉVɽþÉä®úÉ (½þÉä®úÉ®úixÉÆ) [If lagna lord is in 7th, the native would be a righteous, radiant individual with good habits. His wife also would be radiant, beautiful and good natured] Hora pradeepam, and Jataka Saradeepa quotes the same sloka with only a slight difference - Instead of the word ‘±ÉMxÉ{ÉiÉÉè’, the word ‘|ÉlɨÉ{ÉiÉÉè’ is used. Of course this does not change the meaning of the sloka in any way. Possibly they knew well that the approch of Meeraja is more apt to the context. Note that the results provided by the Meenaraja is in tune with the rule we derived - Lagna lord in any house bestows good results for that house. Naturally if lagna lord is in 7th, the native will have a righteous, radiant, beautiful wife. Since from 7th lagna lord aspects lagna, lagna becomes strong and thus the same would be true for the native as well. This is the clear cut path of derivation. Possibly because of this many texts such as Hora Pradeepam, Horaratnam, Jataka saradeepa etc quotes Meenaraja’s slokas on the same instead of Prarasara’s words. But Parasara’s words also should be respected, since he is pointing to some special possibilities.

Rule 7: Benefic lagna lord providing benefic results if in 7th and malefic lagna lord providing malefic results if in 7th. This is of special contextual importance in deriving results for lagna lord in 7th house. In a generalized way this rule is applicable in all the other cases as well. Even though this rule is note worthy, we will not give much importance to this connecting rule (that connects House Base & HousePlanet Base results) in this whole write-up, since the same will cause us to consider the Planet as well. As mentioned earlier, in this writeup, we are more interested in learning ‘House Base’ result derivation system alone. The 7th house signifies things such as - love, wife, sex, sexual intercourse, lost items, life loving nature, small love quarrels, death (being maraka stana; 12th from house of longevity), travel, interest or lose of interest in things, desire etc. Thus the placement of lagna lord in 7th generates special importance to the derivations related to the same.

Lagna lord in 8th House If lagna lord is in 8th house, the native would be very efficient in the subject he learned. He will indulge in immoral activities such as playing speculative and money wasting games such as dice or lottery, theft, indulging in sexual acts with others women and so on. He would be a very angry person as well. He will be troubled by many diseases but will have good longevity. He will be interested in accumulating much money and will not be thankful to the help he received form others. If the lagna lord placed in 8th is a malefic, then the native will use bad and cruel words and his body would be a pale yellowish one. ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä(+)¹]õ¨É¦ÉɴɺlÉä ʺÉrùÊ´ÉtÉä MÉnùÉEÖò±É& {É®úxÉÉ®úÒ®úiɶSÉÉè®úÉè tÚiÉɺÉHòÉä(+)ÊiÉEòÉä{ÉxÉ&** - {É®úɶɮú½þÉ®ä úÉ

[If lagna lord is in 8th house, the native will have high efficiency in some knowledge branch. Many diseases will trouble him. He will indulge in immortal sexual activities with other women (other than his wife). He will be interested in betting on dice, lottery etc and would be an angry individual with an unsettled mind] High efficiency in some knowledge branch: Being 11th (gain) from 10th (fame), 8th house can signify gain of fame, gaining of efficiency in work. Thus the placement of lagna lord in 8th can certainly signify high efficiency in some technical knowledge branch or profession. Troubled by many diseases: This is a normal derivation. Since 8th is a malefic house (a dustana) lagna lord going to 8th weakness to body and health (lagna) - i.e. disease. Immoral sexual activities with other women: 8th is 3rd (growth) from 6th (immoral sex). Further lagna lord in 8th aspects 2nd (many wives). Again 8th being a malefic house it could indicate immoral activities. Further 8th house signify the sexual organs of the native. Combining all the above, the result, immoral sexual activities with many other women can be derived. Interest in speculative games (e.g. dice, lottery etc): 8th signifies a weak mind caused by bad health and immoral activities - this makes the native interested in speculative games and bad habits. But since ‘speculation’ is signified by 3rd, the logic behind is not clear enough. A better logic could be - 8th is a malefic house, a planet in 8th aspects 2nd house, indicating some bad effects for 2nd house; the native would waste much money unnecessarily - possibly in speculative games and immoral activities. But 8th being 7th from 2nd, this logic too is not satisfactory. Angry and unsettled mind: Due to the above reasons. 8th is 3rd (upachaya; growth) from 6th. Thus it could signify the growth of the bad qualities signified by 6th house. Possibly the saying ‘a weak body causes a weak mind’ - is of special importance as far as lagna lord in 8th is concerned. Thus the native will have many blind beliefs.

Another version of the Parasara is also available on the same, as quoted below. ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä ´ªÉªÉMÉä¹]õºlÉä ʺÉrùÊ´ÉtÉʴɶÉÉ®únù& tÚiÉÒSÉÉè®úÉä ¨É½þÉGòÉävÉÒ {É®úxÉɪÉÉÇʦɦÉÉäMÉEÞò±ÉÂ** [If lagna lord is in 8th or 12th house, the native would be very efficient in the subject he learned. He would be a very angry person as well] Here too the derivations are much similar to the one given in the first quote. Now let us see what Meenaraja has to say. ±ÉMxÉ{ÉiÉɴɹ]õ¨ÉMÉä EÞò{ÉhÉÉä vÉxɺÉÆSɪÉÒ ºÉÖnùvÉÉǪÉÖ& GÚò®úJÉSÉ®äú Eò]ÖõVɱ{ÉEò¶SÉ ´É{ÉÖ¹ÉÉ ¦É´ÉäiÉ {ÉÒiÉ&** - ¨ÉÒxÉ®úÉVɽþÉä®úÉ (½þÉä®úÉ®úixÉÆ, ½þÉä®úÉ|ÉnùÒ{ɨÉÂ, VÉÉiÉEòºÉÉ®únùÒ{É&) [If lagna lord is in 8th, the native will not be thankful (to the help he received form others). He will be interested in accumulating much money and will have good longevity. If the lagna lord placed in 8th is a malefic, then the native will use bad and cruel words and his body would be a pale yellowish one] The native would be thankless: thanklessness is signified by 8th house. He would be interested in accumulating money: Lagna lord in 8th aspects, 2nd house providing beneficial results to 2nd house - that is why this derivation. Will have good longevity: 8th is house of longevity. Lagna lord in 8th gives beneficial results for 8th - increasing longevity. But don’t forget that lagna lord in 8th causes bad results for lagna (body) causing bad health (diseases) as well. Use of bad words: If lagna lord is malefic and is placed in 8th, the same has aspect on 2nd house. The malefic aspect on 2nd house

19

(words) causes the derivation - ‘the native will use bad and crul words’ Pale yellowish body: Possibly indicating bad health - weak body. The Phaladeepika sloka giving the generalized results for lagna lord in malefic houses (6-8-12) is applicable here. The sloka is quoted belownÖùºlÉä ±ÉMxÉ{ÉiÉÉè ÊxÉ®úÉävÉxɨÉÖ{ÉèiªÉYÉÉiÉ´ÉɺÉÆ ¡ò±ÉÆ ´ªÉÉvªÉÉvÉÒÊxÉiÉ®úÊGòªÉÉʦÉMɨÉxÉÆ ºlÉÉxÉSªÉÖÊiÉ\SÉÉ{ÉnÆù** - ¡ò±ÉnùÒÊ{ÉEòÉ [If lagna lord is in malefic houses such as 6-8-12, there could be stay, warrant or court case against the native. He would have to hide from many. Diseases would trouble him. He will indulge in activities that were unnecessary, or not directly related to him in any way, and the same would cause trouble. He will lose his position and reputation due to all this and may have to leave his native place] Horaratna, Hora pradeepam, Jataka saradeepa are unanimous in quoting the above Meenara hora sloka itself. The 8th house signifies things such as - death; suffering - due to disease, health problems, poverty etc; place of death, sadness, longevity, addiction to immoral activities and bad habits, mastery and dedication to the subject under study, fame etc. Thus the placement of lagna lord in 8th generates special importance to the derivations related to the same.

Lagna lord in 9th House If lagna lord is in 9th, the native would be lucky and dear to people. He will be a devotee of God Vishnu. He would an efficient individual, efficient especially in speech and oratory. With wife, children and good amount of wealth (essentials for a good worldly life) he will lead a good life. He will have many respectable relatives. He will do many good deeds and would be a righteous individual. It could be said that he is an individual with

‘Satwa Guna’, meaning he will have the ability to keep the same balanced state of mind both in happiness and sadness. Bestowed with many good qualities, he will excel as a popular and radiant individual. [Note that father is NOT mentioned in any of the above results] ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä xɴɨÉä ªÉÉiÉä ¦ÉÉMªÉ´ÉÉxÉ Vɱɴɱ±É¦É& ʴɹhÉÖ¦ÉHò& {É]Öõ´ÉÉÇM¨ÉÒ {ÉÖjÉnùÉ®úvÉxÉèªÉÖÇiÉ& - {É®úɶɮú½þÉ®ä úÉ [If lagna lord is in 9th, the native would be lucky and dear to people. He will be a devotee of God Vishnu. He would an efficient individual, efficient especially in speech and oratory. With wife, children and good amount of wealth (essentials for a good worldly life) he will lead a good life] Since 9th is the house signifying luck it is natural to say that the native would be lucky, and a devotee of god. But why God Vishnu? There is specific reason for this derivation. The trines signify the trinity. Lagna signifies Brahma; 9th Vishnu; 5th Siva. This derivation primarily comes from the zodiac itself. In the Zodiac Aries being the first sign signifies creation and thus Brahma; 5th being Leo, the house of Sun, signifies Siva, 9th being the Sagittarius, the house of Jupiter, signifies Vishnu. There is a saying ‘Jeevastu Narayana’, meaning ‘Jupiter signifies Narayana (God Vishnu floating in the primordial ocean which caused the creation of the universe). Thus 9th signifies god Vishnu and that is why it is derived that lagna lord in 9th will make the native a devotee of God Vishnu. Thus we get a cute rule Rule 8: The significance of all the 12 houses are related to the 12 signs from Aries onwards as well. Aries could signify creation, so as lagna; Taurus could signify food so as 2nd and so on. Much significance that gets associated to the houses is derived in this way. This understanding can be used while deriving results using ‘House Base’ system as well.

20

Parasara tells us that if lagna lord is in 9th he would be an efficient individual - why? Note that 9th is a house that is in the visible part of zodiac. (1 to 7 = Invisible or hidden half; 7 to 12 = visible or popular half). Thus the qualities of the native would be well visible to the public; he is lucky, spiritual, and righteous. All these help him in being an efficient and successful individual. But this logic does not help us in clarifying the derivation - he would be an efficient individual, efficient especially in speech and oratory. What speech has to do with 9th? First it may seem that - no, there is no relation. But note that Parasara is simply extending the previous rule stated. 9th Sign of zodiac is Sagittarius owned by Jupiter, and all the qualities such as Speech, efficiency in speech, interest in telling spiritual and puranic stories, good knowledge are all related to Jupiter itself. Thus it is quite natural to derive the result ‘the native would be efficient especially in speech and oratory’. This ability of the native will persist even to his old age, as indicated by the fact that 9th is 8th (longevity) from 2nd house (speech). Lagna lord in 9th gives beneficial results to 9th, causing longevity of speech, or in other words, the ability to amaze people with wonderful knowledge bits and excellent speaking abilities even in old age. Why it is said that he would live a good life with wife, children and wealth? Note that these are the prime conditions for being a lucky person in worldly life. As a balanced, efficient, lucky individual he is sure to have the prime necessities for worldly happiness - which happens to be ‘wife, children and wealth’. Also note that 9th is 5th from 5th, and in essence LL in 9th bestows good results for 5th indicating - beneficial results for children (5th house). Similarly 9th is 3rd, an upachaya (growth and well being) house from 7th. Thus LL in 9th gives beneficial results to 9th, indicating growth and well-being of 7th (wife) as well. LL in 9th aspects 3rd house, which is 2nd from 2nd (a rule discussed earlier) and thus provides good results for 2nd house as well, providing good wealth. Thus in short, it turns out that - ‘wealth, wife and children’ is a well thought-out derivation, supported by logic in many ways.

¨ÉÚÌkÉ{ÉÊiÉ®Âú ªÉÊnù xɴɨɺiÉnùÉ ¦É´ÉäiÉ |É´É®ú¤ÉÉxvÉ´É& ºÉÖEÞòiÉÒ ºÉ¨ÉºÉi´É¶SÉ ºÉÖ¶ÉÒ±É& ºÉÖEÞòiÉ& JªÉÉiÉ& ºÉÖiÉäVɺ´ÉÒ - ¨ÉÒxÉ®úÉVɽþÉä®úÉ (½þÉä®úÉ®úixÉÆ, ½þÉä®úÉ|ÉnùÒ{ɨÉÂ, VÉÉiÉEòºÉÉ®únùÒ{É&) [If lagna lord is in 9th, the native will have many respectable relatives. He will do many good deeds (He would a righteous individual); keep the same balanced state of mind both in happiness and sadness (He is an individual with ‘Satwa Guna’) ; will have many good qualities. He will excel as a popular and radiant individual] Why many respectable relatives - who are they? If Meenaraja wanted to indicate the native will have a good father, it would have been easy to understand, since 9th signifies father. But he says - ‘many respectable relatives’. Of course respectability is a quality of 9th house and therefore no doubt on that. A good respectable father is also a possibility. What about other relatives - intended? From the discussion of 3rd house, we already know that In male horoscope, 9th house can indicate - wife’s sister, brother’s wife, sister’s husband and wife’s brother. In female horoscope, 9th house can indicate - husband’s brother, sister’s husband, brother’s wife, husband’s sister. Son’s son and daughter, Daughter’s son and daughter, Mother’s brother (the traditional husband as per some sects) are also indicated by 9th house itself. It is due to all these reasons that Meenaraja resorted to the statement, ‘LL in 9th (bestows good results for 9th and therefore) indicate having many respectable relatives to the native’. Meenaraja tells us that ‘the native will keep his equally balanced state of mind in happiness and sadness’ - why? It is because he is a spiritual individual. Spiritual awareness helps the native to achieve the same without much effort. In a calm mind the divine reflects and the beneficial results follow. The remaining derivations of Meenaraja are also easy to understand in this context.

21

Because we are discussing 9th house, there is unique point to note. Why 9th house signify father? If 4th is mother (as indicated by the ownership of Moon in Cancer, 4th sign from Aries), then the natural thing was to say that 10th signify father, since the same is 7th from 4th as well. But all the medieval texts, tell us that - father is signified by 9th house. Why? Note that 9th indicate ‘Mother’s mother’s brother - the traditional husband as per customs followed by several sects’. The Vedic tradition NEVER supported such a system - then how come astrological texts attribute the significance of father to 9th house instead of 10th? It would be interesting to note the following points in this context. * Only books of Jain (Garga hora etc) and South Indian tradition attribute 9th house to father. [I am yet to see any other ancient Rishi hora sloka (other than Garga Hora sloka) which attribute the significance of ‘father’ to 9th house. Of course astrology did not originate in South India but in the banks of ‘Saraswati River’. It is the ancient Jain siddhas who spread it through out India, especially in south India] * All ancient text agree on the fact that 9th house signifies Guru. * While discussing 4th house (and in many other places) Parasara indicated that father is signified by 10th house rather than 9th. * In many traditions (including non-vedic and vedic; Agama and Nigama) father was the first Guru of the native, especially related to Upanayana etc. Many texts say that - Guru IS father, equating both of them, possibly because Upanayana (providing sacred thread) is considered as the second birth of the native. I think 1) Emphasis with Jain and South indian traditions attribute the significance of father to 9th indicate that the tradition of marrying ‘mother’s brother’ was very common among both of them. 2) This points to the agama (non-vedic) origin of astrology as well. Even Mihira tells us that ‘Astrology is an Agama sastra’ emphasizing

its non-vedic nature. But Mihira was so authentic and popular, that from the period of Mihira onwards considering 9th as father got accepted by almost all the followers of astrology (south indian and north indian; non-vedic and vedic; Jain and Hindu) alike. Note that currently there is almost no text available (except BPHS) that tells us that - 10th house signifies father. It is cute fact to note. 3) Texts like Parasara hora (BC 1400) could be an effort to mix the Agama system of astrology (some streams of which like the Jains, followed customs like marrying ‘mother’s brother’) with the other streams (which never followed such a custom). This could be a controversial statement. But if it is so, this also points to the fact why texts like BPHS are popular in north, while south instead depends on older Rishi horas (like Skanda hora, Garga hora etc) and the text of Mihira who accepts that astrology is an Agama sastra (Knowledge of Tantric origin). 4) It is also possible that the above statement is wrong. It is possible that except Jains (Garga Hora) no other Rishi horas followed the system of ascribing the significance of father to 9th house (we need to study the available quotes). It is possible that any such indications we may find in BPHS are later interpolations. If the above statements are true we would have to resort to the statement “No Rishi Hora except Garga Hora attributes the significance of father to 9th house. As per them father is signified by 10th house”. This is a subject with good scope for astrological research. Research and come out with ancient quotes that support your arguments. 5) Essentially thus the fact springs up that the Jain contribution to the development of astrology in India - is far more than what we currently ascribe them to. Similarly the contribution of Vedic tradition and literature to the development of Nirayana astrology is far less than what we ascribe them to. Possibly ancient indian astrology is a branch of science developed by the Asura Tantric culture of Harappa (which covered many other parts of the world such as Iran, Assyria etc as

22

well) and spread throughout India mostly through the Jain Siddhas. That was why it was still Agama sastra (Tantric knowledge branch) even at the period of Mihira (i.e. AD 550). Note that even Aryabhata was a Jain. Since Sage Garga - a Jain sage - who wrote Garga Hora lived around BC 1400, and was a contemporary of Skanda (the originator of Nirayana astrological knowledge who wrote Skanda Hora), it turns out that the Jain tradition is as old as Vedic tradition. The Saiva Agama tradition existed prior to that even in the Harappan period. So the flow of this eternal knowledge branch known as Nirayana Astrology in ancient India would be from Saiva Agama tradition to Jain Tradition to South India through the sea shore (Gujarat and Orissa). And then by the period of Mihira getting accepted by the whole of India - mixing both Agamic Nirayana Zodiacal astrology and Vedic Tropical Astrology. Mutual interactions and give and take must have happened in between as well - but it is fair to say that till the period of Mihira (AD 550), Nirayana zodiacal Astrology and Sayana Tropical astrology were treated separately in India - the first considered as Agamic and the second as Vedic (Nigamic). The non-vedic nature of astrology is also evident from the fact that, astrology texts don’t even mention the name of Lagatha or his student Suchi, who wrote the text ‘Vedanga Jyotisha’ in BC1400, a text dealing with astronomy and calendar system known to and followed by vedic tradition. Thus possibly all the 18 sages mentioned by astrological classics were outside vedic tradition - no wonder the hindu brahmin fanatics prior to the period of Mihira never tried to save those astrological texts - from extinction. The other stalwart of the same era, Aryabhata (AD 522) was a follower of Jain religion. It should be said that - together they saved this knowledge of Nirayana astrology from complete extinction. We have drifted away a bit during this discussion, from our major subject that is ‘Lagna lord in various house’ but still I think it is worth it. Now let us go back and continue our study -

The 9th house signifies things such as - luck, guru, vishnu, purana, story telling, father, meditation, kind donations, righteous deeds, devotion etc. Thus the placement of lagna lord in 9th generates special importance to the derivations related to the same.

Lagna lord in 10th House If lagna lord is in 10th house, the native would be respected or rewarded by the king. He would be rewarded with good power and position. He will earn much money with his own effort and will become very popular individual respected for his capabilities. He will get much happiness from his father and mother. He will have - many bothers, high sexual urges, life loving nature, good qualities and beauty. He would be a scholar and righteous individual. He will respect guru, father and mother and live like a king with good wealth. ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä Eò¨ÉÇMÉä ®úÉVÉ{ÉÚVªÉºlÉÉxɺÉÖJÉÉÎx´ÉiÉ& ÊxÉVÉÉä{ÉÉÌVÉiÉÊ´ÉkÉÉä(+)ÊiÉ|ÉʺÉrù& {ÉÖ¯û¹ÉÉä ¦É´ÉäiÉÂ** - {É®úɶɮú½þÉ®ä úÉ [If lagna lord is in 10th house, the native would be respected and rewarded by the king. He would be rewarded with good power and position. It is area of the zodiac that is just above our head - the highest point, and is in the visible area of the sky. No wonder, lagna lord in 10th will make the native a much respectable individual, respected or rewarded even by the king, the government or people in power. Lagna lord in 10th means, the native is in his highest position of exaltation in social life, excellently using his capabilities to the maximum extend. Thus the derivation - he will earn much money with his own effort. As mentioned earlier popularity is signified by 10th house itself. Thus the above sloka simply attributes the qualities signified by 10th house on the native - to derive the results.

23

Rule 9: The significance of the house reflects through the house lord (e.g. Lagna lord) placed in any house. i.e. To derive the result, try associating the significance of the house with the individual or thing signified by the house lord.

Use this rule, anywhere when you feel that it is getting difficult to derive more and more results - certainly this makes the result derivation an easier task by providing more possibilities.

It is the above rule that makes the native intelligent if lagna lord is placed in 5th, makes the native simple minded and loving if lagna is in 4th, makes the native popular and wealthy if lagna lord is in 10th.

He will have - high sexual urges, life loving nature, good qualities and beauty] It is discussed earlier itself (while discussing 4th and 9th house) that, as per Parasara 10th house signify father. That is why in the above sloka it is said that, ‘if lagna lord is in 10th house the native will get much happiness from father’. Of course any planet in 10th aspects 4th house and that is why ‘happiness from mother’ as well. This helps us to locate one more rule. Rule 10: Lagna lord gives beneficial results to any house that it aspects. The reason for ‘having many brothers’ is also discussed while discussing 4th house. All the other results in the above sloka is derived, as if lagna lord is placed in 4th, since from 10th it aspects 4th house. Of course life-loving nature (4th) combined with excellence in job (10th) is sure to give good results such as mental peace and public respect. Rule 11: The aspect gives results similar to placement. Both can be interchanged while trying to derive, more and more re-

sults, from the combinations present in the natal chart.

- ¨ÉÒxÉ®úÉVɽþÉä®úÉ (½þÉä®úÉ®úixÉÆ) [If lagna lord in 10th, he will get (monetary) help from king. He would be a scholar and righteous individual. He will respect guru, father and mother and live like a king with good wealth] Any person in highest position and power is signified by 10th house and so naturally it signifies king or government. Lagna lord is in 10th, indicating a mutual beneficial association between the government and the native. That is why the derivation - ‘he will get help (award, promotion or monetary help) from the government’. Scholarship is a quality associated with 9th house. 10th is 2nd house from 9th. Presence of lagna lord there provides beneficial results for 10th. From earlier discussion we know ‘The 2nd house from any house strengthens the effects of the house prior to it’. Thus naturally lagna lord in 10th increases the qualities of 9th, one of which happens to be scholarship. That is why it is said that the native would be a scholar. 9th is strengthened - that is why guru is respected. Both 10th and 4th benefits from the placement of lagna lord in 10th, and that is why it is said that ‘he will respect his father and mother’, respect being a quality imparted to native through the 10th house. In his high position and finest exposition of excellence (10th house - mid heaven), the native is natural to live like a king with good wealth - and thus the derivation. Horapradeepa gives another version of the above sloka. |ÉlɨÉä¶ÉÉä nù¶É¨ÉºlÉä xÉÞ{ɱÉɦÉ& {ÉÎhb÷iÉ& ºÉÖ¶ÉұɶSÉ MÉÖ¯û¨ÉÉiÉÞ{ÉÚVÉxɨÉÊiÉ®ú xÉÞ{É|ÉʺÉrù& {ÉÖ¨ÉÉxÉ ¦É´ÉÊiÉ** - ½þÉä®úÉ|ÉnùÒ{ɨÉ (VÉÉiÉEòºÉÉ®únùÒ{É&)

[If lagna lord in 10th, he will get (monetary) help from king. He would be a scholar and righteous individual. He will respect guru, father and mother. He would be an individual who is popular like a king] The only difference this sloka has is that it gives more importance to the popularity gained by the native, a quality of 10th house. The 10th house signifies things such as - power, position, popularity, public respect, job, fame, father, kingly wealth and prestige, expertise in things, excellence in job etc. Thus the placement of lagna lord in 10th generates special importance to the derivations related to the same.

Lagna lord in 11th House If lagna lord is in 11th house, will have monetary gains in many ways. He will have good name and fame; good qualities, good habits and would be righteous. He would be radiant, strong and happy and would be very knowledgeable. He may have many wives. He might be troubled by extra earnings. He will live a good life. He will have good children - especially male child. He will never have to worry about anything mentioned above. ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä ±ÉɦɦÉɴɺlÉä ¤É½Öþ±ÉɦÉÉÎx´ÉiÉÉä VÉxÉ& ºÉt¶ÉÉäMÉÖhɶÉÒ±ÉÉfø¬Éä ¤É½ÖþnùÉ®ú& |ÉVÉɪÉiÉä** - {É®úɶɮú½þÉ®ä úÉ [If lagna lord is in 11th house, will have (monetary) gains in many ways. He will have good name and fame; good qualities and habits. He may have many wives] 11th is the house signifying gain. That is why the derivations ‘monetary gains in many ways’. It could be from various professions, many jobs, multiple business, or from properties. Lagna lord in 11th bestows beneficial results to 11th as well as 5th and empowers 9th and 10th (being 3rd and 2nd from those houses ) - that is why the derivation he will have good name and fame, good qualities and habits. It is has direct association with the house of love (i.e. 5th house) and 5th

from 7th. No wonder 11th is supposed to signify the second marriage. Since 11th signifies the second marriage, it is natural to derive the result ‘many wives’, if lagna lord is in 11th house. Note that in the above sloka, it is given as a good result and not as a bad result. It just indicates that the native will enjoy all kinds of life comfort, women being just one of them as per ancient view. Thus for a righteous individual in modern life, the same may not be of much relevance - in a society that does not appreciate multiple relations or marriages, he may resort to be satisfied with a single wife. But still all the possibility of women getting attracted to him, and having multiple relations is there. But such relations will never become a burden or trouble to him, even if the same is present. Another version of the above sloka of Parasara is also available, which is quoted earlier as well ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä vÉxÉMÉä ±ÉɦÉä ºÉ±ÉɦÉ& {ÉÒÊb÷iÉÉä xÉ®ú& ºÉÖ¶ÉÒ±ÉÉä vɨÉÇÊ´Éx¨ÉÉxÉÒ ¤É½ÖþnùÉ®úMÉÖhÉèªÉÖÇiÉ&** [If the lagna lord is in 2nd or 11th house, the native would be troubled by extra earnings. The second point we have already discussed, but why should extra earnings trouble the native? May be this version of the sloka is wrong, we should verify this result. Let us see what others have to say about Lagna lord in 11th house. children (especially male child), and would be very knowledgeable. He would be radiant, strong and happy. He will never have to worry (about anything mentioned above)] As mentioned earlier, lagna lord in 11th bestows good results especially to 4th, 5th, 9th and 10th - that is why the derivation, he will have a good life. ‘Good children’ is also a natural derivation since the lagna lord in 11th aspects 5th and bestows good results to the same. In ancient times, son was considered more auspicious since he is the one who continues the tradition of the family (especially in north India where paternal hereditary system was popular). Thus good children and happiness from the same is actually meant to say ‘good son’ and not ‘good daughters’ under the above circumstances. 5th and 11th are odd signs, signifying male nature, that too supports this. Note that in southern India, maternal hereditary system was present at that time, and thus daughter was considered equally auspicious. In the current society - this distinction is irrelevant and we can resort to the derivation - ‘if lagna lord is in 11th the native will have many good children and happiness from them’. That is, if he want son’s he will have them, if he want to have daughters he will have them, if both the same as well - in any case happiness from children results. Horapradeepam also quotes the same sloka provided by Meenaraja with slight word differences, but the meaning remains the same. BEòÉnù¶ÉMÉiɺiÉxÉÖ{É& ºÉÖVÉÒÊ´ÉiÉÆ ºÉÖiɺɨÉÎx´ÉiÉÆ Ê´ÉÊnùiÉÆ iÉäVɺEòʱÉiÉÆ EÖò¯ûiÉä {ÉÖ¯û¹ÉÆ ¤ÉʱÉxÉƨɺÉÒnùxiɨÉÂ** - ½þÉä®úÉ|ÉnùÒ{ɨÉ (VÉÉiÉEòºÉÉ®únùÒ{É&) [If lagna lord is in 11th, he will live a good life. He will have good children (especially male child), and would be very knowledgeable. He would be radiant, strong and happy. He will never have to worry (about anything mentioned above)] While going through quotes available related to ‘House Base’ result derivation, we notice that the midlevel texts (like Horaratnam, Horapradeepam, Jataka Saradeepam) gives more importance to the

quotes given by Meenaraja than by Parasara. This is clearly understandable and logical, since we have already noticed that even though Parasara reflects more understanding about the underlying principles and the layout of the zodiacal and its influence on the native, at times he does not stick to the ‘House Base’ rule alone but instead mixes it with ‘Sign-House’ derivations. Such an approach cannot be termed fully systematic, if some one is trying to learn ‘House Base’ result derivation technique in its own context. That is why even though Parasara is absolutely justified for his derivations, Meenaraja’s sloka are given more importance. Meenaraja considered only ‘House Base’ derivations sticks to the context of discussion, which is a better systematic approach. Since here we too are trying to understand ‘House Base’ result derivation technique, me too appreciate the approach of Meenaraja than that of Parasara, even though the truth remains that Parasara has better understanding of the context than Meenaraja. Parasara is a sage of more repute, while Meenaraja is just an ancient scholar king of Gujarat. Another point of interest is concerning the name attributed to Meenaraja. He is usually known by the name ‘Vridha Yavana’ and lived after the period ‘Sphujidhwaja’. Sphujidhwaja was known to some as ‘Yavana’ as well. Both of them draw their knowledge from the lineage of ‘Puratana Yavana’ or ‘Yavaneswara’, an ancient scholar of indian astrology who is respected as a sage and lived prior to BC 1400. Even BPHS mentions the name of ‘Yavaneswara’ and we know that BPHS and Parasara Samhita were written around BC 1400 by Parasara. That is why it is said that, sage Yavaneswara lived prior to BC 1400. Certainly this period is far prior to that of Greek invasion. Thus it is clear that the word ‘Yavana’ does not refer to Greeks in this context. Even when we are going though the texts ‘Sphujidhwaja Hora’ (AD 250) and ‘Meenaraja Hora’ (After AD 250) which are available even today, we find that * There is no mention of any Greek gods in these texts

26

* Indian gods like ‘Prajapati (Brahma)’ is praised but no Greek gods * These texts reflect a good understanding of Upanishads and Sankhya system of knowledge * Those texts are written in pure Sanskrit written by people well versed in that language. * Astrological knowledge of same level, or same system is NOT found in Greece. * There is almost NILL available evidence (i.e. books) of astrology in Greece prior to Ptolemy. But in India many texts and available quotes from ancient texts pre-dates Greek knowledge of the same. But some western scholars who act as if doing research, but instead had a vested interest towards projecting Greek astronomy (who didn’t even knew that earth is round), or some so called indian scholars who neither studied such texts in depth nor derived their own conclusions (but instead parroted the words of western scholars) started telling that the Nirayana indian astrology is borrowed from the Greeks! What else to say but instead - Fools! What is right is right and what is wrong is wrong. It is true that the ‘Yavana school of astrology’ proposed by sage Yavana and even BPHS originated outside India, or in Kashmir region, as evident from many of the unique words used in such texts. * Some unique words when considered linguistically indicates that that they must have originated outside current India is present in all these works. Such words include ‘Drekkana’, ‘Rippha’, ‘Apoklima’ and many more. We should clarify or describe - how and why this could happen?; or Are these words of Greek origin or is there any other possibility? Please note that * This lineage of Yavaneswara’s system of astrological knowledge

originated out side current India; outside the vedic literary universe. * The word ‘Yavana’ does not refer to Greek but to some other tradition or people lived out side India, and does not follow the Vedic system. Sage Garga who lived around BC 1400, tells us that ¨±ÉäSUôÉʽþ ªÉ´ÉxÉɺiÉä¹ÉÖ ºÉ¨ªÉEÂò ¶ÉɺjÉʨÉnÆù κlÉiÉÆ Ê@ñʹɴÉkÉäÊ{É {ÉÚVªÉxiÉä ËEò {ÉÖxÉ& nèù´É´ÉÊuùVÉ&** - MÉMÉǽþÉä®úÉ [Even though the Yavana people are ‘Mlecchha’ they mastered this knowledge branch of astrology well. Because of this they are respected like sages. If the same is possible, why not the people with the ‘Sacred Thread’ who have done the ‘Upanayana’ (and lives within India)?] Note that the word ‘Mlecchha’ refers to the people of ‘Meluha’, the ancient name of Harappa city. Harappa was outside India, that is on the other side of Sarasvati River. Harappan people never followed the Vedic system, but valued Tantra, Yoga and Saiva Agama. The deity symbols found in Harappa are seated in ‘Moolabanddha’ yogic posture, most scholars agree that it represents Siva. Further ‘Swastika’ system, which represents the Nirayana Zodiac as per Tantric tradition, is found in Harappa. The downfall of Harappan city happened around BC 1900. By around BC 1400, the word ‘Mlecchha’ which originally used to refer to ‘Meluhan’ people, must have gained some degenerated meaning, due to the advent of Jain (Garga was a Jain) and other cultures. Therefore it must be to the ‘Harappan’ people and especially to ‘Sage Yavaneswara’ who followed their system of astrology, sage Garga is refering to. Yavaneswara Hora, Sphujidhwaja Hora, Meenaraja Hora etc are ‘Yavana Grandha’ (Yavana texts). What is the meaning of ‘Yavana Grandha’? Do we have a clear definition? Yes! Sukra Neeti, a text mentioned even in the epic Mahabharata, provides a clear definition

27

for this word, as quoted below Dre-Khante =>Drekkana and gets adopts back into Sanskrit in its new form, but with the same original meaning 1/3 rd of a Sign! Note that the Indian meaning of many of such words are different from the phonetically equivalent of their Greek terms. For example Taurus is Bull in Greek, but ‘Tavuru’ (the equivalent term popular in indian astrology texts) means Camel! Similar comparison holds true for many words. Thus instead of resorting to feeble theories of Greek origin of such ‘Yavana (school of) astrology’ means ‘Greek astrology’; it is better to understand the other possibility - The Asura culture (The culture prevailed in Harappa, Assyria, and Persia) prior to the Greece must have contributed much to the knowledge and vocabulary of both Greeks and Indians. Indians are indebted to that Ancient Asura Tantric culture for

28

this great knowledge of Nirayana astrology and neither to Greeks nor to vedic civilization. As mentioned by Mihira, astrology is ‘Agama Sastra’ (Tantric knowledge) - a treasure maintained initially by Saiva Agama tradition of Harappa (and possibly migrated to many other places from there), then to Jain with in India, and from them to South India.

We have deviated a lot by now from our major subject of discussion - i.e. ‘Lagna lord in various houses’. But I know it is worth it. Now, let us go back to our discussion and continue the same.

Sphujidwaja and Meenaraja must be the keepers of this great astrological wisdom of Zoroastrian religion (Gujarat is known as Zourashtra - due to this association with Persia), the rudiments of Asura culture which worshiped Asura Medha. About ‘Sphujidhwaja Hora’ and ‘Meenaraja Hora’ -

Lagna lord in 12th House

* There is almost no evidence to show that they were Greeks * These books in no way reflect the belief or culture of Greece. * There is no similar work available or known in Greek * These books is not written in Greek language. * These books does not mention any Greek teacher or god * These books never mention that they are translations (they are original works by two kings lived in Gujarat) But still some stupid people argue that these books are translations of some ‘unknown’ Greek text! They start arguing that the whole of Indian astrology is or Greek origin! All the above literary evidence regarding those books and the history of the world is irrelevant to them! Blinded by western ego - they have to prove that that the whole Nirayana astrology came from Greece to India - and many Indian Vedic fools are with them now! What a catastrophe - to the knowledge India reveres! Note that the Vedas are revered but not the fools. Let us try to restate the authority and value of Nirayana Astrology a branch of ‘Agama Sastra’ (Non-Vedic Tantric knowledge) and study and systematically present the same - before those who really want to learn.

The 11th house signifies things such as - gain, elder brother, left ear, journey, second wife etc. Thus the placement of lagna lord in 10th generates special importance to the derivations related to the same. If lagna lord is in 12th house, the native will have all the bodily pleasures (such as pleasure from women, sex, sleep etc). He will indulge in immoral activities such as playing speculative and money wasting games such as dice or lottery etc, will do immoral acts such as theft, will indulge in sexual acts with other’s women and so on. He will waste money without benefit and would be an angry individual, if not conjunct with or aspected by benefics. He will indulge in many worldly pleasures He would be very efficient in the subject he learned; would be very efficient in argumentation, very intelligent and will love his own community. He will go abroad and may live abroad. He will earn as well as donate - and live by depending on the earnings of others to certain extend. ±ÉMxÉä¶Éä ´ªÉªÉMÉä VÉÉiɺiÉxÉÖºÉÉèJªÉºÉ¨ÉÖÎVZÉiÉ& ÊxÉ®úlÉÇ´ªÉªÉEÞòiÉ GòÉävÉÒ, xɪÉÖHäò xÉäÊIÉiÉä ¶ÉÖ¦Éè&** - {É®úɶɮú½þÉ®ä úÉ [If lagna lord is in 12th house, the native will have all the bodily pleasures (such as pleasure from women, sex, sleep etc). without benefit is derived. But why anger? Ofcourse loss causes anger to rise - would it be the reason? Could be. But there are other reasons as well. 12th signifies ego and sadness - both of which fuels the anger. Considering the Kalapurusha chart, i.e. Aries as Lagna, Mars is the lagna lord and in 12th it gets placed in the house of destruction (Pralaya Rasi) Pisces, which the proud Jupiter rules - anger and destruction combined with power is the natural effect of this combination. The same applies to lagna lord in 12th. It is the house of destruction now with the Mars like (or sun like, since sun is the significator of lagna) lagna lord placed in it. Naturally a fiery planet in such a fierce house causes the anger to rise - and then destruction and lose are just natural consequences. Note that 12th house signifies sadness, lose, deterioration, poverty, sin, immoral sex, expense, bondage, imprisonment etc. Ofcourse a moment of anger, and action without consciousness can lead to the worst results. But if conjunct with or aspected by benefics this result should not be derived. Why? Because 12th is a unique house which will change its nature drastically if aspected by benefics. Note that 12th is the house signifying liberation as well. Liberation means the end of all darkness - merging into pure consciousness. In Kalapurusha chart, the same would be represented by Ma in Pieces (owned by Ju). Ma is the significator of detachment (Satwa guna) and Jupiter of consciousness (Pranjha). This sign and house itself signify liberation (Mukti) and on beneficial conjunct or aspect, the same is going to bestow the best possible results suddenly reversing its nature, as indicated by 2 fishes in opposing direction. Pisces signifies the merging of opposites, the end of all conflicts. In the native’s horoscope similar situation is signified by lagna lord in 12th house. Here too if 12th house is conjunct with or aspected by benefics - the same will happen, i.e. reversing of its original nature. Then the sign bestows all good results - because the merging of opposite results - and even the bad results stops to be bad anymore - bestowing detached peacefulness and happiness - Sex may become tantric sex and lose may give way to renouncing.

He will indulge in immoral activities such as playing speculative and money wasting games such as dice or lottery etc, will do immoral acts such as theft, will indulge in sexual acts with other’s women and so on. He would be a very angry person as well] Efficiency in some subject he learned: Being 3rd (growth) from 10th (fame), 12th can signify gain of fame, gaining of efficiency in work. Thus the placement of lagna lord in 12th can certainly signify high efficiency in some technical knowledge branch or profession. Theft and immoral sexual activities: Theft and immoral sexual activities are mainly signified by 6th house. Lagna lord placed in 12th aspects 6th amplyfing the streangth of 6th house. The other things mentioned in the sloka are straightforward and easy to understand, 12 being a malefic house. Let us see what Meenaraja has to say. uùÉnù¶ÉMÉä ¨ÉÚÌkÉ{ÉiÉÉè {É]Öõ´ÉÉM´ÉÉnÆù Eò®úÉäÊiÉ ¨ÉÊiɨÉÉxÉ ºÉ½þ MÉÉäjÉEèò®Âú ʨɱÉxɨÉäÊiÉ Ê´Énäù¶ÉMÉÉä nùkɦÉÖHòxÉ®ú& - ¨ÉÒxÉ®úÉVɽþÉä®úÉ (½þÉä®úÉ®úixÉÆ) [If lagna lord is in 12th house, the native would be very efficient in argumentation, very intelligent and will love his own community. He will live abroad. He will earn as well as donate - and live by depending on the earnings of others. He will indulge in many worldly pleasures] Efficient in argumentation, intelligent: Lagna lord in 12th aspects the 6th house (2nd from 5th) providing beneficial results to 5th as well - so this derivation. Also note that 12th is 11th (gain) from 2nd (speach and words) and is an Upachaya (growth) house from 2nd. Any ben-

30

eficial planet placed in 11th from a house streanthens the significance of that house. Thus here too LL placed in 12th (11th from 2nd) strengthen the significance of 2nd (speach, words and argumentaion) and thus the derivation. Will love his own community: Own community is signified by 4th (close circle - clan) and 10th house (caste group, religious group, society). Lagna lord in 12th is a 9th from 4th. But this does not seem to denote the logic used behind with clarity. Lagna lord in 12th is in Upachaya (growth) house from 10th house, strengthening the significance of the same. Thus it could indicate that the native will indulge in more social work, especially for his community. Live abroad: Malefic houses 6-8-12 are hidden from view and in a way indicate being away from native land, and losing close contact with friends and relatives. Therefore these houses can signify life abroad (away from friends and relatives). Further in Kalapurusha chart also the 12th house (Pisces) signifies sea (or rather crossing the sea) and thus life abroad. 12th is fall from original position - the place and environment to which we actually fit into. In this way also 12th can signify the life of an individual who is away from his native culture, customs, language, environment and relatives.

as well. That is why in Kalapurusha chart the 12th house is signified by Pisces - a unique sign with dual nature. Thus 12th can signify pitiful death as well as Nirvana (liberation); 12 can signify bondage and liberty; 12th can signify worldly pleasures and sadness; 12th can signify lack of intelligence and pure consciousness; 12th can signify fall from position and evolving about all position and names; 12 can signify death and re-birth. It is a unique house, which indicate the merging of the opposites. A bit different version of the above sloka of Meenaraja Hora is available in Hora Pradeepa as quoted below. uùÉnù¶ÉMÉä ¨ÉÚÌkÉ{ÉiÉÉè Eò]Öõ´ÉÉnùEò®úÉäù ¨ÉÊiɨÉÉxÉ ºÉ½þ MÉÉäjÉEèò®Âú ʨɱÉxɨÉäÊiÉ Ê´Énäù¶ÉMÉÉä nùkɦÉÖHòxÉ®ú&

He will indulge in many worldly pleasures] Here instead of ‘Patuvak’ (efficient in argumentation) the word ‘Katu vadakaro’ (indulging in argumentation using bad words) is used. 12th being a malefic house (amplifying the bad qualities of the native), this also seems to be logical. Check with actual results to identify the correct version. May be this too would be difficult, since usually too much argumentation (if done between people without awareness) may essentially lead to the use of bad words - in an effort to degenerate the views of others, and also due to the fact the false egos gets hurt during argumentation at times.

Too much attachment and indulgence in worldly pleasures and spending of wealth with out valuing it, is sure to cause sadness and other side effects such as poverty, diseases like tuberculosis, debt, death and bondage. Thus pleasure is essentially associated with pain

The 12th house signifies things such as - lose, left eye, diseases like tuberculosis, deterioration or degeneration, poverty, sin, immoral sexual acts, expense, debt, sadness, bondage, imprisonment, death, liberation, enlightenment, re-birth etc. Thus the placement of lagna

Earn and Donate: To waste money - the attitude of not valuing money should be present. Such individuals if affected by kindness will give away money in donation as well. To waste money, first money should be earned or gained from some one else. Thus the derivations ‘earn and donate’ or ‘live by depending on other’s earnings’.

lord in 10th generates special importance to the derivations related to the same. In this document I tried to clarify the results attributed to lagna lord in various houses and the logic used behind those derivation in the quotes provided by ancient astrology classics. This document must have helped the learners much in understanding the view point, systems and logic used by the sages to a certain extend, I hope. Continue this study - trust in the words of the sages - and know that they never said even a word without proper support of logic and understanding. Those words spring from their true sincerity and experience.
