Bosna i Hercegovina ima 4 miliona stanovnika i zauzima površinu od 51.233 km2 Balkanskog Poluotoka. Do 1992. godine bila je u sastavu bivše Jugoslavije. Bosna i Hercegovina spada u najinteresantnije dijelove Evrope, a poebno se ističe raznovrsnošću kultura. Širom zemlje nalazimo uticaje hrišćanske kulture sa Zapada – rimokatoličke i pravoslavne – kao i orijentalnih kultura, islamske, mavarske i jevrejske. Njihova simbioza te dug period relativnog mira omogućili su razvoj arhitekture, kiparstva, književnosti, muzike i drgih oblika umjetničkog stvaralaštva. Svaki istorijski period ostavio je neizbrisive tragove. Među najstarijim tragovima su crtež u pećini u Badnju pored Stoca i arheološko nalazište u Butmiru, staro preko 4000 godina. Osim toga, nađeni su ostaci Ilirskih naselja u Ošanićima i Ripaču. Interesntni su i objekti koji datiraju iz perioda Rimske Imperije, kao što su Rimski Most i kompleks ljekovitih banja na Ilidži pokraj Sarajeva. Osmanska Imperija ostavila je veliki broj tragova u Bosni i Hercegovini. Ovdje je cvjetala trgovina tokom više od tri stoljeća. Turska i muslimanska tradicija ostavila je dubok trag na lokalnu kulturu. U periodu turske vladavine nikli su gradovi poput Sarajeva, Mostara i Tuzle, izgrađeni su čuveni mostovi u Višegraadu, Mostaru i Žepi, brojni putevi, hanovi, hamami (javna kupatila) i džamije; u većim mjestima podizane su škole i biblioteke. Novi 'bum' u razvoju zemlje desio se za vrijeme Austrougarske okupacije. Tada je samo u Sarajevu izgrađeno nekoliko velelepnih zgrada, među kojima su Gradska vijećnica, Katedrala, Zemaljski muzej i Narodno pozorište. Zbivanja u prvoj polovini 20. vijeka negativno su uticali na razvoj zemlje. U tom razdolju su vođena dva svjetska rata u kojima je stradao veliki dio stanovništva zemlje, teritorija Bosne i Hercegovine je bila okupirana i podijeljena. U drugoj polovini 20. vijeka zemlja napreduje na svim frontovima – razvija se industrija, šire se gradovi, Sarajevo organizuje najveći sportski događaj u istoriji Bosne i Hercegovine, Zimske olompijske igre 1984. godine. Odmah po završetku posljednjeg rata 1995. godine, započeti su radovi na obnovi najznačajnijih kulturno-istorijskih spomenika u svrhu oživljavanja turistike privrede u Bosni i Hercegovini.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, with about 4 million inhabitants, occupies a territory of 51.233 km2 in the Balkan Peninsula of Southeast Europe. Until 1992, it was part of the former Yugoslavia. In its entirety, Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the most interesting parts of Europe, and it is particularly rich in cultural diversity. Influences of Christian culture from the West – Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox - and the Orient – Islamic, Moorish and Jewish - are found throughout the country. Their symbiosis during a long period of relative peace had great impact on the development of local architecture, sculpture, literature and music. Every historical period has left indelible traces. Among the oldest are a cave drawing in Badanj near Stolac and an archaeological find in Butmir, over 4000 years old. In addition, remnants of Illyrian settlements have been found in Ošanići and Ripač. Also interesting are structures from the era of the Roman Empire, such as the Roman Bridge and a bath complex in Ilidža on the outskirts of Sarajevo. The Ottoman Empire left indelible traces in Bosnia-Herzegovina. For about two centuries trade flourished in the region, and local culture is still deeply marked by Turkish and Muslim traditions. This period saw the foundation of cities, such as Sarajevo, Mostar and Tuzla; the development of architecture; the erection of famous bridges in Višegrad, Mostar and Žepa; the building of trade roads, caravanserais, hamams (Turkish baths) and mosques; and the establishment of schools and libraries in larger settlements.

Bosnien-Herzegowina, föderale Republik, hat circa 4 Milionen Einwohner, und erstreckt sich auf einer Fläche von 51.233 Km² auf der Balkanhalbinsel in Südosteuropa. Bis 1992 war das Land Teil des ehemaligen Jugoslawiens. In seiner Gesamtheit ist Bosnien-Herzegowina, das reich an kulturellen Unterschieden ist einer der interessantesten Teile Europas. Einflüsse der christlichen Kultur, des Katholizismus, aus dem Westen, der christlichen Orthodoxie aus dem Osten, der islamischen und maurischen aus dem Orient wie auch der jüdischen Kultur sind überall präsent. Ihre Symbiose und eine lange Zeit des relativen Friedens äußern sich in der Entwicklung der lokalen Architektur, der Skulptur, Literatur und Musik. Jede historische Epoche hat unauslöschliche Spuren in unserem Land hinterlassen. Zu den ältesten gehören die Höhlenmalerei in Badanj in der Nähe von Stolac und die archäologischen Funde in Butmir, die rund 4000 Jahre alt sind. Reste der illyrischen Siedlungen wurden in Ošanići und Ripač gefunden. Sehenswert sind auch Strukturen aus der Ära des Römischen Imperiums, wie die Römische Brücke und die Heilbäder in Ilidža bei Sarajevo.

A new boom in the development of the country came at the time of its occupation by the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The following buildings were constructed during the occupation: the City Hall, the Cathedral, the National Museum, the National Theatre, and some others.

Auf jeden Fall hat die Herrschaftsperiode des Osmanischen Imperiums die tiefsten Spuren hinterlassen und die weitreichendste Aussstrahlung gehabt. Einige Jahrhunderte, in denen der Handel boomte, haben sichtbar das Aufblühen der lokalen Kultur beeinflusst, welche von der türkischen und muslimischen Tradition geprägt ist. Diese Epoche brachte Stadtgründungen mit sich - Beispiele sind Sarajevo, Mostar, Tuzla und andere Städte; sie brachte auch die Entwicklung der Architektur; den Bau von berühmten Brücken in Višegrad, Mostar und Žepa; den Ausbau von Handelswegen, Karawan-Serails, Hamams (Türkischen Bädern) und Moscheen; die Gründung von Schulen und Bibliotheken in den Städten.

The first half of the twentieth century adversely affected the situation in the country: two world wars, heavy loss of life among the population, the territory of the country occupied and partitioned by the warring powers.

The second half of the twentieth century was marked by progress on all fronts, rapid development of industry, and the expansion of cities, as well as by the greatest sports event in the history of Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Winter Olympic Games held in Sarajevo in 1984.

When the last war ended in 1995, reconstruction efforts on the most important cultural monuments were initiated, with the aim of reviving the tourist industry in BosniaHerzegovina.

Die zweite Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts zeichnet sich durch postive Ereignisse aus, die meisten Städte erleben einen starken Aufschwung: man baute Neu-Sarajevo (eine Stadtgemeinde) und 1984 wurden die Olympischen Spiele ausgetragen. Als der Krieg 1995 endete, wurden Anstrengungen zum Wiederaufbau unternommen, auch mit dem Ziel, die Touristen wieder anzuziehen.

Sarajevo je politički, ekonomski, kulturni i saobrćajni centar zemlje. Zahvaljujući koegzistenciji raznih kultura i religija tokom njegove istorije, grad obiluje i islamskim i hrišćanskim spomenicima.

Gazi Husrevbegova džamije – jedan od najpoznatijih spomenika Osmanske sakralne arhitekture na Balkanu. Aškenaska Sinagoga – podignuta 1902. godine (za vrijeme austrougarske okupacije) u pseudomavarskom stilu Katedrala Srca Isusovog – najstarija katolička crkva u Sarajevu, izgrađena u neogotskom stilu periodu od 1884. do 1889. Pravoslavna crkva – izgrađena u baroknom stilu od 1863. do 1872. Narodno pozorište – izgrađeno u neorenesansnom stilu od 1897. do 1899. Second in size, this city is also the capital of the Republica Srpska, one of two Bosnia's autonomous entities. It is located 90 km south of the estuary of the Vrbas river into the Sava, i.e. from the border between BosniaHerzegovina and the Republic of Croatia. The history of the city goes back as far as Roman times, as evidenced by many archaeological findings in the area. Banja Luka is also famous for its spas. The city of Mostar was founded as the administrative centre of Herzegovina during the period of Ottoman rule. A beautiful place with a long history, it hugs the banks of the Neretva river, attracting visitors with its atmosphere recalling of its long Turkish past. It was named after the keepers of its internationally famous and UNESCO-protected old bridge (stari most) of unique architectural design, built in 1566, destroyed in the last war and reconstructed in 2004.

Since 1981, when the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared for the first time and began proclaiming messages, this place has become the destination of thousands of visitors from the whole world. Attendance at holy mass can be arranged as well as a visit to the hill where the Mother of God appeared for the first time.

The first settlements in the area of Jajce go back to prehistory. Later, Romans built their settlements here too. The first traces of the existence of a city date from 1396. Jajce also was the place where the greatest Bosnian kings held court. It is situated in a karst area abounding in caves, lakes and waterfalls (Plivsko Lake, Plaža Lake, Brana, etc.)

Travnik is situated on the Lašva river, 38 km from Zenica. The first traces of its existence appear in 1463. At the time ofTurkish rule, it was the seat of the Bosnian Viziers (1699-1850). Ivo Andrić, the best known Bosnian writer, was born in Dolac near Travnik. There is now a museum in the city dedicated to him.

Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina and its political, cultural and economic center with nearly half a million inhabitants. It is situated between the West and the East and is therefore full of interesting architectural contrasts. The idea to place the village of Kumrovec, the site of Tito's house, under state protection was first put forward in 1947. The house was restored to its original condition, the surroundings were developed, and a monumetnt to Tito, designed by Antun Augustinčić, was placed in front of it.
