PRECAUTIONS
•
Get the appropriate permits for heavy lifting activities in hazardous area. Refer “PTW Procedure”
•
Refer Chapter – 17 of Fire & Safety Regulation on “Lifting Equipment” for detail in this regard.
•
Conduct Toolbox Talk • Verify the suitability of lifting tackles & crane for the loads to be handled.
•
Check the Lifting Tools; Tackles & Crane have fitness validity, certificate and color coding.

Ensure the area is free from obstacles for crane operations and ground is properly compacted.

Confirm the stability of the crane at work site.

Conduct safety check of the crane prior to start lifting.

Carry out the load test in case the crane is assembled at site. •

Ensure that the load is secured for safe lifting.
•
Check for the availability of flame arrester mounted on the crane exhaust.
•
Carry out the gas test to confirm absence of flammable & toxic atmosphere at worksite.
•
Check the availability of suitable & approved Fire Extinguishers at site.
•
Check the slings, chain, ropes, eye bolt, pallet, container are not damaged and safe for lifting the load.
•
Verify the workers are trained for heavy lifting operations and non essential person leave the area before lifting operations starts
•
Confirm the signals between crane Operator & Banksman. Only trained Banksman to give signal.
•
Ensure no one rides on the load and nobody goes below the load.
•
Do not use Fork Lift for transferring long tublers / pipe rack.
•
Ensure the load safety before lifting and never overload more than the capacity of crane, pallet, container, slings / chain / ropes or tackles etc.
•
Lift the load slowly & check the slings / ropes / chains are not twisted keeping the load in central position.
•
Use the rope for guiding the load if required.
•
Use rubber pads to protect abrasion from slings. •
