MARANAN, ROLAND IAN L. BSN IV- 3/ GROUP BRH ER 7- 3pm DR. MYRA BRITILLER REFLECTIVE JOURNAL TITLE:Emergency department nursing management of patients with orthopedic fractures resulting from motor vehicle accidents. AUTHORS:  Herron DG, Nance J.  AUTHORS: J.  REFERENCE:  NursClin North Am. 1990 Mar;25(1):71-83. REFERENCE: SITE: Pubmed.gov

Nursing management of patients with orthopedic fractures resulting from motor  vehicle accidents is a frequent challenge for nurses in an emergency department setting. The nurse must have knowledge of the mechanics of injury, the classification of  the resulting fracture types, and the usual medical interventions. In addition, emergency department nurses should follow plans of care that are based on nursing diagnoses so that appropriate nursing interventions can be determined and consistently provided. Initiation of these care plans must not be delayed until the patient is admitted to an inpatient nursing unit, but should be begun in the emergency unit setting. This article presents information that the emergency room nurse needs in order to make plans for  nursing care, and discusses seven nursing diagnoses that are almost always appropriate for patients seen in the emergency department who are experiencing orthopedic fractures resulting from motor vehicle accidents.

What is the topic all about?  The topic is all about the nursing managements to the patients with orthopedic fractures who suffered from vehicular accidents.

What is the idea of the author?



The author’s idea was the emergency department nurses should should follow plans of care that are based on nursing diagnoses so that appropriate nursing interventions can be determined and consistently provided to the clients. This article presents information that the emergency room nurse needs in order to make plans for nursing care.

What is already known about the topic?   As a nurse, we should have a knowledge on how to manage a certain situation like the said condition above. Being in the emergency department, nurses must be alert and knowledgeable enough to perform a certain procedure so tht the client will also receive an appropriate intervention in alleviating his/ her condition.

Do you agree/ disagree to the author?   I agree to what the author said because as a nurse it is not just the courage is what we need but also the knowledge and prowess because we are handling one person’s life.

LEARNING

I learned that panic plays no part in the training of a nurse. We should always be ready on whatever kind of situation we may have on our shift in the hospital. Our duty is to give care on our patients, but being in the Emergency Room we already knew that there were lots of patients with different complaints, our responsibility is to deliver the first aid starting from admission and so on. If we follow what the author was saying in his article, we can function and do our duties and responsibilities accordingly.
