CONTROL MEASURES

 Authorized work permit holders shall ensure obtaining and maintaining valid work permits.  The supervisor responsible for this activity has to check the PPE of his staff to ensure that all required items are available and properly used.  Inform all people regarding permit conditions before work starts.  Supervisors must conduct daily toolbox talk about nature of work and associated potential hazards and their essential precautionary measures.  Carryout gas test by QP Authorized gas tester time to time.  All groups working in different area inside station shall have H2S personal gas monitor(certified)  Equipment Check List (Verified).  Area cordon off.  Load the material as per the designed loading capacity of the vehicle.  Weight of load clearly marked / Known.  No Manual Handling will be allowed for heavy load.  Operator should be positioned on the opposite side of the truck to that which the load will be lifted or lowered.  Operator should have a clear view of the area where the load will be lifted from or lowered onto. Ensure:  That loads will not become snagged which may cause equipment failure. This may require an observer or guide ropes to be attached.

Stabilisers MUST be lowered and on firm footing. NOTE: The truck wheel should not be lifted off the ground as they supply the main stability. Ensure: Parking brake is applied.  That the truck wheels are chocked if the ground slopes.  It is recommended that the ground should not slope more than 5 degrees

 Personnel shall wear Personal Protective Equipment such as Hardhat, Eye Protection, Hand Gloves and Safety Shoes during CABLE LAYING, PULLING and or TERMINATION.  Supervisor or Foreman shall give TOOLBOX talk to his workers prior to start of work.  Cable Drum’s Steel Roller shall be provided with END STOPPER to prevent cable drum from falling.  Do not use Steel Roller made of RSC or Pipe tubing.  Assessment of the weight of cable to be pulled and numbers of workers required shall be defined.  Workers shall keep distances to the cable drum being pulled.  Pulling cable crew should not pull the cable fast. Teamwork must be followed.  SIGNAL PERSONS shall be provided during cable Laying / Pulling and shall be equipped with RED and GREEN signal flags.  Cable Drums should be properly located on CABLE JACK designed for the purpose and of suitable capacity and base.  Cable Jack shall be repaired if welded joints are already deteriorated.  Full Body Harness shall be used when working at heights and shall be TIED OFF on strong materials.

 Workers shall be taught in cable laying and pulling techniques including the requirement for ensuring good manual handling techniques.

 LIFELINES shall be provided as necessary as practicable when working at elevated areas.

 Workers shall not run when pulling cables TRAPPING INJURIES

 CABLE JACK shall be of sufficient capacity and placed on an even and hard surface.  WARNING SIGNS shall be positioned adjacent to cable laying  Area for loading and unloading shall be barricaded properly.  Damaged Cable Drums shall be repaired before they are loaded or unloaded for the jobsite.

 Provide COLD DRINKING WATER at the jobsite during hot weather condition.  Drink plenty of COLD DRINKING WATER especially during hot weather condition.  QP work and rest procedure shall be followed.  Immediately GET OUT from the cable pulling / laying area when symptoms of heat stress attacked and inform your Supervisor or Safety Officer immediately.  SHADED AREA shall be provided for rest period. Resting adjacent to or under plant or equipment is prohibited.  Workers shall NOT RUN on installed or laid cables during cable pulling.  Cables shall be KEPT AWAY from foot and equipment traffic. Stored materials shall be barricaded and provided with signs.  Avoid storing materials on walkways or ingress or egress.

 Do not store scrap cables on walkways.

Slips trips and falls due to poor housekeeping

   

 Remove tools equipment and rubbish from worksite and maintain a clean work environment.  Arrange housekeeping on daily and every shift bases  Supervisor shall conduct tool box meeting in this regards
