VISUAL MERCHANDISING RETAIL ACTIVITY

VISUAL MERCHANDISING ACTIVITY

Jagan Institute of Management Studies organized a workshop for its PGDM (RMM) 2011-13 Batch at its Campus on Monday, 10

th

September, 2012 as part

of visual merchandising activity. To impart training to students & to impart art-skills for teaching the same Ms. Smriti Tandon was invited. She is a trainer and has a work experience of 15 years as a paper crafter, specializing in Paper Quilling & has learnt the technique from Chicago. The workshop was based on Paper Quilling or Paper Filigree which is an art of creating fascinating 3dimensional designs from thin strips of paper. These paper strips are rolled, curled and pinched to create elaborate designs that one can use to decorate class projects, cards, photo frames, boxes, scrapbooks etc. Our students learned the art of paper quilling which has its evolution in history where nuns and monks were inspired by metal filigree of the past to

decorate book covers and religious items. Some museums and private collections have quillworks dating back to the 16th century. It got revived in late 19th century and is now enjoyed by kids and adults all over the world. The workshop aimed at improvising the skills of the students, where they had hands on experience of  Paper Quilling. As they say, Speciality do not wither, similarly our students got to know and learnt the art and its forms to analyze and use it as medium to get a
