Tips For Physics • Electrodynamics should be studied well especially o Electrostatics o EMF o Current Electricity

• Important Chapters o Modern Physics o Thermodynamics • Calorimetry is easy & Questions have been asked on it every year o Optics o SHM & String waves

• In Mechanics o Fluids come in paper every year o Errors & Measurements is easy and a sure shot scorer o NLM & Gravitation also have been asked regularly

Tips for Chemistry • Inorganic (20% – 25%) – Periodic Properties & Coordination compound are major contributors • Organic (30% – 35%) 10%

o Biomolecules & polymers are sure shot scorers o Alkyl Halide, Alcohol, Phenol, Aryl halide & ether are other good contributors with minimum 2 problems o Isomerism with concepts of moles & stereochemistry contribute 3 problems (10%)

• Physical – (40% - 50%) o Thermodynamics & Kinetics(7%) o Properties of matter[solid + solutions + surface chemistry + gaseous] – 4-6 problems(10%) o Atomic Structure + Chemical Bonding – 4 problems (12%)

Tips for Mathematics •

Almost 1/3 paper is covered by 4 groups of topics with 2 topics in each i.e. • Probability & PnC • Quadratic & Complex

* Binomial Sequence & Series * Matrices & Determinants

Among these 1&4 are largely part of 12th syllabus and can be done with

little efforts & can fetch almost 15% of the marks Straight line and Circle have approx. 10% weightage with circle being major contributor •

• • •

In conics ellipse should be given time as hyperbola has been largely absent

Differential Calculus is expected to have weightage of 20-25% with good portion being covered by Set, Relations, Function & Graph Vector & 3D comprise 10% weightage and they are easy topics Trigonometry weightage has increased over the past few years, and is expected to be 10% in the coming paper with majority from trigonometric ratios and identity Integral Calculus has seen a constant portion of approx10% divided into definite, indefinite and Area under the Curve Copyright @ RAO IIT ACADEMY

A0 = Aggregate score of a student in JEE-Main [ suppose 40% i.e. 144 marks] B0 = Percentage score of that student (in five subjects) in the Class XII Board Exam [suppose 60 %] PB = Corresponding percentile of the student in the Class XII Board examination [calculated 50.07]

Scores B1 and B2 are computed from PB using table 3 and table 4 respectively Calculation of B1 = Corresponding Score in JEE Main(for all the students appeared in JEE Main across all the Boards) for the percentile PB (50.07) i.e. 48 Refer Table 3 Calculation of B2 = Corresponding Score among the students who satisfy the eligibility criteria for JEE Main and belong to Board ABCD, for percentile PB (50.07) i.e. 80 Refer Table 4 These scores (B1 & B2) helps in normalization of Boards Marks as per JEE (MAINS) pattern 

The normalized Board score of the student Bfinal = 0.5*(B1 + B2)

[ 0.5*(48+80) = 64 ]

The composite score of the student is

[0.6*144 + 0.4*64=112]

Appendix 2 : Rank Prediction from Table 2 •

Cumulative Normalized score for Soham is 135.2 . It lies between 125 and 150. His rank can be predicted using linear interpolation method. Soham has 10.2 marks greater than 125. This lies in range of 125 to 150 marks slab. AIR varies by 31000 for 25 marks in this slab. ( 65000  34000  ) 31000  10 . 2  13000 25

AIR Variation for 10.2 marks =

• •

So AIR of Soham at 135.2 marks would be = 65000 -13000 = 52000 Similarly State rank of Soham would be = 5500 – 1020 ≈ 4500
