A Word About the Supernatural T H I S is a book about the outright supernatural.

And I, for one, am ready for it. When my wife, Elizabeth, and I coauthored some of the early books of the Renewal Movement (The Cross and the Switchblade, God’s Smuggler, The Hiding Place), we included accounts of mystery and miracle, not because they were sen­ sational but because without them, the events we were reporting could not have happened. For the past decade, the emphasis in American publishing has shifted somewhat toward the believer’s need for personal commitment and discipline. But the pendulum is swinging back again, as it always must, from the truth of our responsibility to the twin truth of God’s initiative. This book by Loren Cunningham is full of startling evidence of God’s sovereign activity in our lives today. So inexplicable, in fact, in human terms, were Loren’s experiences that he and his coauthor, Janice Rogers, and I made a decision. We went through the manuscript, elimi­ nating instances of miraculous guidance that could not be verified by “two or three witnesses” (the Bible’s own standard for accuracy).
