Lemon Fruit as Alternative Batteries

I. Introduction Lemon `citrus limon` is an example of citrus fruit. As we all know, citrus fruit like lemon can help us to cure cough and relieve the pain of colds. However, we still don`t know what the chemical components are. According to the past researchers it contains positive and negative ions, acid, nitrogen and water. As far the researchers know, lemon can be an alternative battery to light small bulbs. They tend to use it in daily class experiment and activity. This project will be revised, the researcher will try to observe the result if the investigator will use bigger or more than one lemon to light a flourescent or a bigger bulb. At this moment, the researcher still don`t know the result, but one thing is for sure it will light if the experiment and methods are accurate and precise.

II. Methods 1. Set the lemon on a flat, level surface.

2. Insert the galvanized nail through the lemon peel and into the center of the lemon making sure that the point does not exit through the other side. 3. At the opposite end of the lemon, using the paring knife make a small slit in the lemon peel. 4. Insert the penny into this slit and continue to push until only about a quarter of the penny remains above the peel. 5. In order to see the amount of voltage created by the lemon battery, a voltage meter is required. 6. Attach the red wire clamp to the penny and the black wire clamp to the nail in order to see the lemon battery at work.

IV. Implication

Lemon can be used as an alternative source of energy to light a bulb. This makes sense to those people who are experimental and eco friendly. Using `citrus limon` is one of the simplest way to produce current. Moreover, citrus fruit like lemon is easy to find to market. Not like other materials, hard to find and very rare. The investigator tried three set ups to prove if lemons can lighten up a bigger bulb. At first, it`s not easy to set up two lemons, much more than three. The researcher put it together and tested it by voltage gauge/ voltmeter. You`ll notice the big difference of a lemon compared to two lemons. And as a result, more lemons are preferably to use because of high voltage and it can light bigger bulbs.
