Description

Lebanese International University School of Engineering Department of Electrical Engineering Spring 2012 IENG300 – Engineering Project Management

Assignment 5 Solution Instructor: Dr. Bassam Hussein

Due Date: Week 13

Exercise 14.1: Sample Answers: Answer I: I recently completed a course (Engineering Project Management) and this is a review of it: This course includes information about organizations, strategies, structures, cultures, how to make a good project including the phases that should be done from defining it to the closure, how to manage risks, international projects and finally agile project management. The management performance was very good since the doctor has a good experience in this domain so he tried his best to teach us lessons from real life, also he knew how to manage the class and the chapters that he wanted to explain, and during the presentation of the project for each group he knew how to manage it without making any mess. For the lessons learned, I really learned many things from this course. First, I learned how to make a successful project including all phases and working with a team. Also, I knew that the management of a project is not easy and we should think out of the box, and we should give each project enough time without trying to finish it early because sometimes it increases the risks. Answer II: Taking the IENG300 Engineering Project Management course for example, and considering the syllabus, a review has been made : 1- The goals of the course were met, students learned how to manage projects at different levels, do risk assessment, and forming a team working on a specific project. 2- The Assignments were delivered according to the due dates. 3- The instructor used new methods and techniques to teach students how to manage projects. 4- In addition, real examples were given by the instructor to students, to show them how in reality such course may be applied. 5- All chapters were explained according to the syllabus, and no delays were made. 6- Five quizzes were done according to the material covered in class. To sum up, The course as a whole project was successfully completed , it introduced us to the work in real life, and how would be and what are the best ways to deal with it. Answer III: After mostly completing the project management course, and considering the syllabus as the plan, I can perform the following review: The outcome of the course was successfully reached, and I am now aware of all concepts and able to apply techniques and tools when managing a project. All included topics where covered at the right speed. The lessons where covered at time according to the syllabus’ schedule, no delay was needed. The method of instruction was fulfilled, and lengthy discussions were made to simplify the ideas. The midterm exam was held on time and now we are preparing for the final. The Assignments were requested according to the due date. However, I wasn’t able to deliver one (homework 3). The course was beneficial on many levels; we are now introduced to how the work life would be and what are the best ways to handle it. We now know how projects are held in details and were provided real life examples. More importantly this course wasn’t just about projects, it was able to teach us the behavior, attitude, personality, and life style that one should adopt to be an effective coworker, team member, manager, and a leader. A good start would be to develop the following form and complete it for the course: PROJECT CLOSURE & REVIEW ORGANIZATION (College of Business) VIEW 1.
