I CHING NUMEROLOGY The Early Heaven Formula The Upper Trigram-calculated from a number aspect of the situation. 1. Observe and select a number that relates to the situation, event, questions, or person about which you wish to consult; for example, the number of letters in a key word describing the situation or event, the number of letters in the name of the person, number of words in the question asked or number of something in the place where the prediction occurs. 2. If the number is 8 or less, find the trigram that corresponds to this number, using the following Table. This trigram is the upper trigram. 3. If the number is more than 8, divide it by 8 and use the remainder to find the trigram that corresponds to this number for the upper trigram. 1- Chien (Heaven) 5- Sun (Wind) 2- Tui (Lake) 6- Kan (Water) 3- Li (Fire) 7- Ken (Mountain) 4- Chen (Thunder) 8- Kun (Earth)
The Lower Trigram-calculated from the time at which the prediction is made according to the Chinese calendar. 1. Note the time to the nearest hour and the date. 2. Using the following abbreviated Chinese calendar, add the numbers of the hour, month, and year to that of the Western date. For example, 2 PM, May 2, 1978 would be calculated as 8+4+2+7=21. 3. If the total is 8 or less, find the trigram that corresponds to this number, using the preceding table. This is the lower trigram. 4. If the number is more than 8, divide it by 8 and use the remainder to find the trigram that corresponds to this number for the lower trigram. The Moving Line – this reveals the prediction; only one moving line 1. Add the number of the date (western) to that of the hour, month, and year according to the Chinese calendar 2. If the total is 6 or less, it is the nmber of the moving line. 3. If the total is more than 6, divide it by 6 until the remainder is 6 or less to get the moving line.

THE PRIMARY TRIGRAM CONTAINING THE MOVING LINE IS CALLED THE FATE TRIGRAM; IT SHOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN. THE PRIMARY TRIGRAM WITHOUT THE MOVING LINE IS CALLED THE SUBJECT TRIGRAM AND REPRESENTS THE SUBJECT OF THE PREDICTION. LOOK ALSO AT THE NUCLEAR TRIGRAMS. INTERPRETING THE PREDICTION: 1. Identify the fate and subject primary trigrams 2. Identify the nuclear trigrams 3. Using what you know about the meaning of the trigrams, select one or two attributes that relate to describe, or indicate some aspect of the prediction. 4. Identify the elements corresponding to all the trigrams. 5. Determine the action of the fate trigram on the subject trigrams using the following charts. 6. Determine the interaction of the nuclear trigrams that are relevant to the situation and their action on the subject trigram using the following charts. If the fate trigram produces the subject trigram, it indicates good fortune. If the fate trigram destroys the subject trigram, it indicates misfortune. If the fate and subject trigrams are the same, they are called “brother and sister” and reinforce each other. This means good fortune. If the fate trigram exhausts the subject trigram, it indicates misfortune. If the fate trigram injures the subject trigram, it indicates slight misfortune. You can analyze the relating hexagram in the same manner.
