Course Syllabus in Principles of Tourism Bachelor of Science in Travel Management Course Code: HRM 101 Descriptive Title: PRINCIPLES OF TOURISM 1 Unit Credit: 3 units Contact Hours per semester: Lecture : 3 hours per week Laboratory: 0 hours per week
Course Description: This course provides the students introduction to the study of tourism, looking at the various theories, concepts and principles relating to the psychological, cultural, sociological, political and economic aspect of tourism. With an overview in the development, composition and roles of the travel sector in tourism. Tourism network and supply components, the patterns and changes in tourism development, and career opportunities in the industry will be discussed.
GENERAL COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the end of the course, the learners should be able: 1. To define the basic principles of Tourism and appreciate the importance of Tourism.
2. To understand the various factors that affects and supports the tourism industry. 3. To know the nature of travel and different travel patterns. 4. To get acquainted with different tourism organizations, their roles and importance.
5. To realize opportunities and threats of tourism to country destination. JOB PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE: Upon completion of the course, the learners should be able to participate effectively in the: 1. Application of principles involved in tourism. 2. Illustration of different tourism aspects and factors on current events. 3. Preparation of a case study on tourism industry. 4.
