How To Write A Recommendation Guide and A Brochure For French SL

 

Guide to writing a brochure/guide  brochure/guide  Introduction A brochure or guide in French is known k nown as la brochure/ le guide de d e recommendations. These names are interchangeable in IB French and the text  types will have the same characteristics. The main purpose of a leaflet, brochure or pamphlet pamphlet is generally to give the target audience advice about something or making them aware of a specific issue; and asking for help in or to act in a ccertain ertain way. A guide can often be found under the form of a leaflet. Although, you will not be able to fold your exam paper on the day of the exam, you can still make it look like a folding foldi ng leaflet by dividing your page into two or three columns. I’m sure that everyone here has here has seen a brochure before- if you have not, go to the reception and look at the ones for our school. That being said, my main advice is to:

  Understand the KEY FEATURES   Look at a few examples   Do one or two practice essays

   

  Use just a bit of fancy language

and……. you’ll be gucci!

Key Features   Always has a creative title..   Subtitles may be used to divide into distinct columns, sections, parts or

 

 paragraph.

  Must be structured and have link words.   Use examples and/or facts to prove what you are saying.   High proportion of adjectives and adverbs

  



consistent in your use of register of language. You may use “vous” or   Be “nous”.   “nous”.

  Engage your audience by asking questions, to help them think (basically use



rhetorical questions).

Samples (please find attached) I don’t know about you guys, but I really dislike work that doesn’t have examples. These examples are a little messed up on the th e first page (not sure why) wh y) but hopefully you can still see the general structure.

 

Practice questions You should definitely NOT attempt theses question in your free time. I tried to look at some past exams but the most common text types seemed to be emails, articles, letters and essays and I wasn’t getting anywhere. Instead, I got these got these examples from different IB guides/sites- so they are legit.

 



Write a guide to give advice to new IB students on how to organize their schedule.   You have a summer job in the tourist office. Write a brochure for visitors to your region describing the main attractions.
