Forward Like nearly everyone else, famous Hollywood celebrities often want to be taller than their “natural” stature. Whether it’s for making personal appearances or out of professional need – most likely to a necessity to fill a movie role – many celebrities use techniques that give them at least a few inches of increased height. There are a few “notoriously” short celebrities that have amassed great fame and fortune in their professions in spite of not being tall. Perhaps the most notable of these is the Hollywood mega-star Tom Cruise. It’s fairly widely reported that Tom Cruise stands somewhere between 5’7” and 5’9”. Ex-wife Nicole Kidman made the remark that she could “finally wear heels again” after their divorce. While 5’9” is stated as being the “average height” of men in the United States, this range of estimation shouldn’t come as a surprise. Padded heels and shoe lifts can easily give the wearer an additional two inches in height without being overly-obtrusive or conspicuous. In truth, Tom Cruise stands at 5’7” tall. If nothing else, the immense success that he has had in a profession that requires him to be eternally in the public eye, men should be reassured that though height is important, you can achieve great success if you are not considered “tall.” Though, as Tom’s case points out, it doesn’t hurt to “pad” the truth, so to speak. Another Hollywood actor that has had his on-screen, perceived height called into question by an ex is that of Leonardo DiCaprio. Model ex-girlfriend Gisele Bundchen stated that her “ideal man has to be taller than me.” Probably due to clever camera work, his thin figure, and some secret Hollywood height-increasing methods, DiCaprio is frequently thought to stand at least a couple of inches taller than six feet tall. In fact, Leonardo stands no more than 5’10”. While still above the national average and thus not considered, “short,” 5’10” is hardly considered tall these days. In reality, Gibson stands right at 5’9.5” tall – hardly a towering figure. Like Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson has hardly let his relatively diminutive height deter him from achieving monumental success on-screen and in the relentless, perpetual presence of the public eye. Another one of the most notorious Hollywood “tough guys” is the star of the movies Rambo and Rocky – Sylvester Stallone. Stallone’s appearance in movies will lead most to believe that he is around 5’11” tall and he has publicly stated that he is around 5’10”. Finally, one of the most revered Hollywood legends ever regularly wore shoe lifts in spite of the fact that he was already a natural 6’3” tall. So far, no official word has come to light about why John Wayne would wear shoe lifts that made him appear up to three full inches taller but the speculation is that he simply wanted to appear even more “giant-like” than his already-tall figure portrayed him as. The term “larger than life” certainly comes to mind in regards to his career. It stands to reason that Wayne wanted the same to be perceived of his actual height as well. Hollywood Height Increase Secret #1: As I mentioned in the forward, many celebrities use shoe lifts (often called “heel lifts,” “insoles,” “elevator shoes,” or just “heels”) in order to appear taller. Shoe lifts can refer either to shoes that are manufactured with extra padding built right into them or specially-designed inserts that can fit into almost any closedtoe shoe. Both have their pros and cons. The specially-designed shoe has the advantage of giving the wearer an additional few inches with the very large benefit of being designed to appear as a normal shoe. Additionally, specially-designed height-increase shoes are able to allow the wearer to appear up to an inch taller than regular insoles because – since they are specially designed – there is adequate room for the foot to rest between the extra height padding and the top layer of the shoe. Normal shoes that have inserts can become very tight because of the restrictions of the amount of room between the top of the shoe and the sole when height-increasing inserts are placed in them. The downsides to specially-designed shoes are the extremely limited selection. While today’s height-increasing shoe manufacturers do an especially great job at offering a wide variety of shoes, there is no way that they are able to replicate every single shoe on the market. However, they are definitely worth a look if height-increasing shoes are something you are considering. Inserts, on the other hand can fit into almost any type of closed-toe shoe so you are not nearly as limited. They simply slip into place and are designed not to be obtrusive. Another benefit of insoles is that they are cheaper as well – and one pair of insoles can be used for almost any shoe, which further brings the cost down. However, as said before, insoles are limited in just how much height they are able to give the wearer. This is due to the restrictions of the dimensions of the shoe in which they are placed. One downside of both specially-designed height-increase shoes and insoles is that they both decrease stability. Even though quality shoes and inserts have been painstakingly designed to limit the chance of falling or causing injury to the legs, ankles, and feet, when you first try them on, they may take some getting used to initially. Hollywood Height Increase Secret #2: What if I told you that all you had to do to gain an extra inch of height was to lay down? No, seriously. It’s how you lay down that’s important. One interesting side effect that NASA observed about its astronauts after returning from a space flight is that they had all grown a couple of inches. After being weightless for a few weeks or even days, the spinal column, normally compressed due to walking around all day in Earth’s gravity, had lengthened. This made each astronaut taller for at least a few days until Earth’s gravity took back over. While I won’t tell you to find a way to blast off into space every few days to maintain a couple of inches, I can tell you how you can best utilize the one time of day that your spinal column isn’t subject to downward pressure from gravity. The manner in which you sleep can have tremendous height-increasing effects, believe it or not. Modern medicine has documented for a long time that people are generally about a half-inch taller in the morning than they are in the afternoon. What some enterprising physicians discovered a few years ago is that if you sleep in a certain manner, then you are able to gain more height than that half inch and even keep that extra height all day long. The first thing you need to do is ditch your pillow. I know what you’re thinking – sleeping without a pillow seems like it would be terribly uncomfortable. But it really isn’t. In fact, it’s the way that you’re naturally supposed to sleep. After just a few nights of sleeping without a pillow you will find that you sleep more comfortably and will wonder how you ever thought you’d miss it. When you sleep with a pillow, you are ruining your posture and perpetuating a shorter stature by unnaturally bending your head and neck forward hour after hour. This arches your back in an unnatural motion as well. Sleep researchers have know about this for years and so have linen and pillow manufacturers. In fact, it even pushed them to create an alternative-type pillow that supports the neck but is concave in the center to allow the body to rest more naturally with a straighter spine angle. While these pillows do offer a partial solution, they can actually cause more harm than good since they make the small muscles that stabilize your neck and head during sleep become weak for non-use. injury). But before you go ditching your prescribed pillow, please be sore to talk to the recommending physician beforehand. He or she may have prescribed the pillow for a very specific reason that is completely impossible for me to try to determine here. If you are cleared to sleep without a pillow, train yourself to sleep in the position that allows you to keep your spine as straight as possible. Lie flat on your back with your arms and legs straight out in front of you. Completely relax your body. Your head may move to the left or right if that is more comfortable to you but you must ensure that your entire body is as straight as possible from the torso to the legs.
Hollywood Height Increase Secret #3: So what do you say when you’re telling people that you’re not really doing much that day? “Oh, I’m just hanging around.” Now you’ll be able to say it literally as well and gain some serious height at the same time. Building upon what I just talked about – spinal decompression and best sleep practices – you now know that one great way to increase your height naturally is to safely straighten your spine and expand the space between each vertebra. When combined with a proper sleep posture and good nutrition, regular intervals of hanging can give you the same effect as being in space for a small amount of time. It effectively takes the pressure of gravity off of it and allows it to gain some length. But isn’t the effect only temporary? Well, maybe not. You see, if you adhere to a schedule of hanging regularly, you may find that the temporary nature stops being so…well, temporary. In fact, it can become permanent. The body is a remarkable bio-mechanic machine and the spine is one of its most complex and wonderful components. It automatically adjusts accordingly to any change of environment and the correction in sleeping posture and a regular regimen of hanging are no exceptions. meaning that they stay spaced apart longer. This ultimately leads to an increased height of up to an inch or more. There are many ways that you can engage in effective hanging, some more advanced than others. The simplest method is to simply hold on to a bar above your head and hang for thirty second intervals. You may find that this is difficult at first, but after a while you will be able to hold on for the entire thirty seconds and even longer as your grip improves. Strive for at least three sessions of hanging for thirty seconds. Eventually, you can make it up to even five or even ten sessions if you choose.
Hollywood Height Increase Secret #4: Look taller with your clothes. If you think that this is a fallacy, think again. The next time you see Hollywood mega-star Al Pacino in a movie, look at the way he’s dressed. Al Pacino is one of the most successful movie stars that has ever graced the screen but his natural height is no more than 5’6”. Surprised? Don’t be. Pacino clearly isn’t the kind of guy to let a little thing like a lack of height hold him back. Now you can share his secrets as well. Here’s some clothing tips to give you the perception of height if you’re a man: •
Wear suits with two buttons instead of three. That extra button means extra material which can make your body look more “squat” and less lean and tall.

Stay away from horizontal lines. Vertical lines are where it’s at.
•
Keep a constant color pattern on the top and bottom. No, you don’t have to wear a monochrome uniform for the rest of your life, but you can go a long way by pairing dark jeans with a gray shirt. Light khakis will go well with a tan or off-white sweater.
•
Don’t cuff your pants. Cuffs break up your form and make you appear bulky and more squat.

Opt for low-rise jeans and never wear your pants too high. Get them custom-tailored if you need to. Wearing your pants too high can make you look short even if you’re already tall.
•
Make sure your clothes fit. Baggy clothes will also make you look shorter and even give the appearance that you are squashed and disheveled.
Here’s some clothing tips to give you the perception of height if you’re a woman: •
“No-waist” pants and skirts will give you a longer, leaner appearance.
•
The same is true for longer, leaner fitted dresses.
•
No more than three buttons on blazers and cardigans. This is for the same reason that men shouldn’t wear suits with three buttons.
•
Wear clothes that compliment your frame and fit well. Avoid baggy clothes.
•
Vertical stripes. Avoid those horizontals.
•
Avoid excessively high heels. A tasteful heel is all you need. You may want to opt for smaller heels over flats, though.
Now that you know that the clothes you wear can make a large impact on others’ perceptions of how tall you are, make it a little game for yourself when you watch television or movies to take note of how the actors are dressed. Hollywood Height Increase Secret #5: Your mother was right to tell you to “stand up straight” – by simply adjusting your posture you can easily gain a half inch on up to an inch of height. But correcting your posture isn’t just about standing up straight. In fact, it can be an immensely complicated process that can take weeks or months to achieve. One of the hardest things that I had to overcome in my own mission to achieve increased height was the bad habit of slumping my shoulders. My “round shoulders” robbed me of height for years. I was always told to “stand straight” and I really did try but until I was able to correctly balance my shoulders and back using the exercises I found, I just could not straighten up properly. Round shoulders occur when the upper spine has an unnatural, forward thrust which puts the shoulders too far forward as a result. This is a highly unnatural position to keep your body in all day and can become much worse over time. Tilted Pelvis One of the largest contributors of chronic back pain, a tilted pelvis can wreak havoc on your overall height as well. The term “tilted pelvis” is used to describe any time that one area of the pelvis – usually one side – is higher than the other.
