1. Introduction  MapInfo Professional is a comprehensive desktop mapping tool that enables us to perform complex geographic analysis. With MapInfo Professional, we can present sites, & MW links as points & lines respectively .Also we can perform nominal site selection & MW planning by drawing the points & lines in cosmetic layer. In a word MapInfo is an essential tool for MW transmission planning.

2. Create MapInfo MW Network File  A MW Network consists of sites & MW links which can be represent by Points & Lines in MapInfo respectively. The whole process to create MW Network in MapInfo divides into two steps: 1. Creation of Site list & Link_list MapInfo (*.tab) files of MW Network. 2. Creation of the MW Network MapInfo (*.wor) file from the desired (*.tab) files. And there are two way to create the Site_list & Link_list MapInfo (*.tab) files of MW Network. I.

Direct from Pathloss (*.grd) file.

From MW sites list & link list database (*.xls/.csv) file.

2.1 Creating the MW Network Site_list & Link_list MapInfo (*.tab) files from  Pathloss  It is the easiest way to create the Site_list & Link_list MapInfo (*.tab). The whole process divides in two steps: 1) Preparation of desired (*.mif) file. 2) Creation of the desired (*.tab) from the (*.mif) file.

2.1.1 Preparation of desired (*.mif) file.  z

Run Pathloss.04 Program

Open the MW Topology Pathloss (*.grd) file in Pathloss .04

From Module menu go to network module in Pathloss 04.

z

From menu bar go to Files>MapInfo export>sites (mif) & save the sites (*.mif) file in desired location.

Repeat the above process for links (mif) & save the links (*.mif) file in desired location. (Bellow figure describes the above process graphically) 2011-3-1

2.1.2 Creation of the desired (*.tab) from the (*.mif) file  z

Run MapInfo Professional program.

From menu bar go to table>import. & then select the desired sites (*.mif) file>save sites (*.tab) in desired location.

Again From menu bar go to table>import. & then select the desired links (*.mif) file>save links (*.tab) in desired location. (Bellow figure describes the above process graphically)

2.2 Creating the MW Network site_list & Link_list (*.tab) files from sites &  links database (*.xls/.csv) files  First of all we have to make the MW sites list & link list database (*.xls/.csv) file. We can make these databases files direct from Pathloss Reports or Manually. Here we will make these two files from Pathloss.

2.2.1 Creation of MW sites_list & link_list database (*.xls/*.csv) file from Pathloss  •

Run Pathloss.04 Program

Open the MW Topology Pathloss (*.grd) file in Pathloss .04

•

From Module menu Go to network module in Pathloss 04

•

From menu bar go to site data>site list>reports>CSV Site list>select the desired field for export>ok>file>save & repeat this process for CSV link list. (Bellow figure describes the above process graphically) 2011-3-1

Run MapInfo professional program. From menu bar go to File>Open or press (ctrl+O)>select file type(*.csv)>select site_list (*.csv) file>open>check “Use First line for Column Titles”>ok.

Now from menu bar go to table>creates points>using symbol for selecting the points symbol size & color> select “Longitude” & “Latitude” for “Get X Coordinate from column & Get Coordinate from column” respectively> ok.

From menu bar go to File>Open or press (ctrl+O)>select file type(*.csv)>select link list (*.csv) file> open>check “Use First line for Column Titles”>ok. Now from menu bar go to table>maintenance>table structure>check table is mapable>ok (Bellow figure describes the above process graphically)

Now run map basic window from menu bar go to options>show MapBasic window> & then type the following command & press enter: “Updatefilename (i.e. links_list)setobi=createline(Site_1_Longitude, Site_1_Latitude, Site_2_Longitude, Site_2_Latitude)”

From menu bar go to File>save table or press (ctrl+s) to save the link_list (*.tab) file.

3. Creation of  MW Network Topology (*.wor) file in MapInfo  Here we will make the index for searching the sites & create the topology workspace file in map info. •

Run MapInfo Professional program.

•

Files>open>select the desired sites (*.tab) & links (*.tab) by pressing ctrl key & then >open.

•

From menu bar go to table>maintenances>table structure>select the table of sites>ok>check the index for the desired filed (e.g. site_id or site_name).

•

Select layer control from main tool bar or right click in the map window & then checked the label to view the Sites Name or Site ID.From layer control we can also change display & color for the site_list points & the link_list line.

Now go to Files>save workspace or press (ctrl+k) to save the MW Transmission network topology as (*.wor) file.

4. Conclusion  MW Network Topology in MapInfo is really important for MW Transmission Planning & Traffic Mapping. Through this MW Planning engineer can do the site selection & nominal MW Planning without Pathloss & check the traffic route easily. In MapInfo we can check all the database information related the Sites & MW links. Also we can do advance mapping of MW network by creation legend & thematic map according to our requirements in MapInfo.
