Introduction We use division field in material master to differentiate materials in to different categories. For example, in apparel and footwear industry, we use divisions as Apparel, Footwear, Accessories, etc. All apparel articles are created with the division "Apparel", Footwear articles are created with the division "Footwear" and accessories are created with division "Accessories". During sales order creation we need to allow all type of divisions to be entered in the one sales order. This is required as some customers buy apparel and footwear at the same time. Therefore you need to maintain all items in a one sales order. This functionality can be achieved in SAP standard with below configuration steps.

Configuration 

Division check in the sales document type

IMG Path:

Below highlighted two fields are responsible for this functionality.

o

Item division This check box determine whether the division in the sales order line item is proposed from the division in the material master or whether the division entered in the sales document header valid for all line items If you mark this field -> SO / LI division will be determined from the material master If you don't mark -> SO header division will be copied to all line items, regardless of the division of the material master

o

Check division This field controls how system responses during sales order creation, when a division in the line item differs from the division of the sales order header. You have below options available for this field:

Test cases with different configuration combinations For all test scenarios mentioned below, I have used two articles with two different divisions. 

Article "AW01" -> Division "A1"

Article "AW02" -> Division "A2"

Always the sales order is created for a one sales area, as shown below. Therefore the sales order header division remains as "A1"

o o

Line item 10 -> AW01 (which has division "A1") Line item 20 -> AW02 (which has division "A2")

Scenario 1: Item division flagged and check division blank Order type IMG:

Sales order creation: Sales order line item division has the determined from the division of the material master. Line Item 10:

Line item 20:

Scenario 2: Item division not flagged and check division blank Order type IMG:

Sales order creation: Sales order line item division has the determined from the sales order header division Line Item 10:

Line Item 20:

Scenario 3: Item division flagged and check division 1 (Dialog) Order type IMG:

Sales order creation: When I enter line item 10 with article "AW01" which has division "A1" (Same as header) -> No issue But when I line item 20 with article "AW02" which has division "A2" (Different from header) -> I get below popup

Details of the message:

Since it is an information message you can save the sales order without any issue. Sales order line item division has the determined from the division of the material master.

Line Item 10:

Line Item 20:

Scenario 4: Item division flagged and check division 2 (Error) Order type IMG:

Sales order creation: When I enter line item 10 with article "AW01" which has division "A1" (Same as header) -> No issue But when I line item 20 with article "AW02" which has division "A2" (Different from header) -> I get below error message

Details of the error message:

You cannot save the sales order.

Conclusion If you want to create one sales order with different material s which has different divisions, you need to have below configuration in the sales document type.

In such a case, line item division field will be determined based on the division in the material master.
