Urtica urens 30 : For gout from eating shell-fish. Useful in acute gout because it facilitates elimination of uric acid from the body. Gout is associated with violently itching skin-rashes. Sometimes, joint-pain and skin-rashes occur alternately. Joint-pain is worse from touch, pressure and cold applications.
Notes: 1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty percent improvement has taken place. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen again or reappear later.

Kidney Stone (Renal Calculus); Renal Colic (Pain) Calcium salts, struvite, uric acid or cystine may form stone/s in a kidney. If very small, stones may pass into an ureter and out of the body unnoticed; if too large to pass into an ureter, they remain in the kidney causing mild pain in the loins and/or infection; if a medium-sized stone enters the ureter, it gradually works its way down to the bladder causing severe friction and thereby pain, called renal colic. This pain is wave-like and of a stabbing nature, which starts when the stone moves and stops when the stone stops moving. Homeopathic Treatment Check if most symptoms of any of these remedies match with most of your symptoms: Berberis vulgaris 30 : For left-sided renal colic, with severe cutting pains starting from left kidney and then descending in a wave-like manner into the left ureter, the urinary bladder and the urethra. There is a bubbling, sore sensation in the kidney-region (loins). The urine is bloody, with thick, jelly-like sediment. The patient prefers to rest because jerky movements bring on or worsen pain. Cantharis 30 : Violent, cutting or stabbing pain (in the bladder region), which shoots off in different directions. There is a constant urge to pass urine, but only a few drops pass out each time, causing such pain that the patient screams. The urine is bloody, containing thick, jelly-like mucous. Drinking coffee or cold water worsens pain but warm applications help. Lycopodium 30 : For right-sided renal colic, with severe pain in the region of the right kidney and the right ureter, at the beginning of urination. There is no pain once the urination is over. Urine contains sandlike, red sediment. Attacks of colic usually occur from 4 to 8 p.m. Ocimum 30 : Again for right-sided renal colic with cramps in the loins. Urine has musk-like odour and contains sand-like red sediment. Ocimum should especially be considered for stones of uric-acid salts. Pareira brava 30 : Constant urge to urinate. Urine flows out after great straining and only when the person goes on his knees, pressing the head against the floor. There is great pain in the bladder region, which goes down into the thighs during efforts to urinate. Sarsaparilla 30 : For right-sided renal colic, the pain shooting downwards from the right kidney (like Lycopodium). There is severe,
unbearable pain at the conclusion of urination just as the urine ceases to flow (like Berberis). The urine only dribbles while sitting but passes more freely when standing. Urine contains sand-like, white sediment. Notes: 1. Cultivate a habit of consuming a lot of water and other fluids. This facilitates the working of kidneys. Cut down the intake of highcalcium foods. 2. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty per cent improvement has occurred. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen again or reappear later
Leucoderma (White Patches on the Skin) Leucoderma is a disorder characterised by white patches on the skin due to loss of skin-pigment (colour). Some cases of leucoderma have been helped by homoeopathic medication. Homeopathic Treatment Any one medicine from Arsenic 30, Selenium 30 or Sepia 30 is selected on the basis of general symptoms. In absence of clear indications, Ars sulph flavum 30 can be tried over a period of about three months. A diminition in the size of white patches or their movement downward along the body can be considered as signs of improvement
Leucorrhoea (White Sischarge) Leucorrhoea is a common feminine disorder characterised by a discharge of thick white fluid from the vagina. The discharge of only a small quantity of fluid may be considered normal, but flow of excessive and foulsmelling fluid is a sign of fungal infection of the vagina or the uterus. Homeopathic Treatment Check if most symptoms of any of these remedies match with most of your symptoms: Alumina 30 : Whitish-yellow leucorrhoea, only during the day time, which is acrid (burning) and so copious as to run down to the heels. It stops for some time after a cold bath but then starts again. Other important features include a craving for indigestible things like chalk and an obstinate constipation (even soft stools come out only after much straining).
Borax 30 : Profuse, acrid, very hot leucorrhoea, as if warm water were flowing out of the vagina. This white discharge continues throughout the interval between two menes. Calcarea carb 30 : Milky, acrid leucorrhoea just before the menses, causing itching and burning of the genital organs. Other important features of this remedy which is also useful to treat leucorrhoea of young fat girls include - profuse, sour sweating, especially of the head during sleep (wetting the pillow) and a craving for eggs and indigestible things (like Alumina). Hydrastis 30 : Foul-smelling, yellowish, thick, ropy leucorrhoea just after the menses, causing burning and itching of the genital organs. The leucorrhoea is so viscid sometimes, as to hang from the vagina in the form of strings. Kreosote 30 : Leucorrhoea between the menses (like Borax), which is yellowish, foul-smelling and corrosive, and stains and stiffens the underclothes like starch. Leucorrhoea is worse in the winter. Pulsatilla 30 : Very thick (creamy) and acrid leucorrhoea which corrodes the genital organs. The burning in the genitals improves with cold applications. Other important features of this remedy include: mild, weepy nature, desire for open air and thirstlessness. Sepia 30 : Greenish yellow leucorrhoea just before the menses (like Calcarea carb) which causes itching and soreness of the genital organs. There is a bearing-down sensation in the pelvic region, forcing the lady to keep the legs crossed, lest everything escape out of the vagina. The lady is weepy (like Pulsatilla) but not mild; rather she is nervous, irritable and indifferent (even to her familymembers). Thuja 30 : Profuse, thick, greenish leucorrhoea with pain in the left ovary and groin. Menses scanty and delayed. Vagina extremely sensitive, preventing
Malaria Malaria is a periodic fever, whose onset is heralded by a chill (shivering). Homeopathic Treatment Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines match with most of your symptoms: Arsenic 30 : Malaria, with fever paroxysms either at mid-day (12-2 p.m.) or midnight (12-2 p.m.). There is weakness, malaise, headache and vertigo. During the chill stage, the nails and the lips burn; but there is no
thirst. During the heat stage there is a thirst for hot water. The fever ends with profuse, offensive perspiration. An important feature of this medicine is mental restlessness and inexplicable fear (of death). China (Cinchona) 30 : Malaria, which returns every seventh or fourteenth day. Palpitations, hunger and headache are soon succeeded by severe shivering. Any effort to control the chill (e.g., covering, consuming hot drinks or using a hot-water bag), further increases shivering. Thereafter, the fever sets in rendering the face red. This is followed by profuse debilitating sweat. Eupatorium perf 30 : Malaria, with paroxysms of fever in the morning between 7 to 9 a.m. A bout starts with nausea and vomiting. Then there is severe chill with pain in the back of the head and an insatiable thirst. Further vomiting may occur before the temperature rises. During fever there is sore, beaten-up feeling in the body. Finally occurs sweating, which relieves all pains except the headache. Natrum mur 30 : For chronic malaria, with paroxysms of fever occurring in the morning (10-11a.m.). A bout starts with shivering, then comes fever with severe left sided headache; finally, sweating occurs which brings down the temperature. Progressive loss of weight, an intense craving for salt and a 'mapped' tongue (having red patches) are other pointers to this remedy. Nux vomica 30 : For malaria in which the chill-stage dominates. During chill, heat as well as sweating phases, the victim insists on keeping his body well covered and keeping the windows closed. There is frequent, ineffectual urging to pass stools.
Measles Measles is a highly infective, viral disease (usually) of children, which though bothersome is not serious. It sets in with symptoms of catarrh e.g., sneezing, running nose, redness and watering of eyes, hoarse cough, prostration and fever which may go quite high (103 - 104° F). At this early stage, it is difficult to distinguish measles from an attack of cold or influenza. However, in about 24 hours characteristic Koplikspots (raised, white, salt-like spots) develop inside the mouth, confirming the diagnosis. On the fourth day appear small, red rashes, first on the face, then on the neck/body and finally on the legs; adjacent rashes may coalesce to form raised blotches. With the appearance of rashes, the fever declines. The rashes disappear in 4 - 5 days. Homeopathic Treatment Measles can easily be prevented through Homoeopathy. When an epidemic of measles breaks out, give your child a dose of Morbillinum 200
in the morning and another in the evening. This homoeopathic medicine confers upon your child, a reasonably strong immunity against measles. However, if your child has already contracted an infection of measles (say from your neighbourhood or from his school), give him that remedy from the below-listed ones, whose symptoms match with those of your child: Aconite 30 : Sudden onset of acute symptoms (described earlier) accompanied by intense nervousness, restlessness and an inexplicable fear, especially in the evening and at night. During fever, the child has an acute thirst for large quantities of cold water (like Bryonia, but unlike Gelsemium, Pulsatilla). He feels better in open air. Arsenic 30 : Here again, the child exhibits acute restlessness, anguish and fear (like Aconite). However, unlike Aconite, he dislikes cold drinks or foods because they seem to worsen his problems. Moreover, he complains of burning (in the eyes, the skin, etc.), which is relieved by warm applications! Belladonna 30 : Sudden onset of acute symptoms of measles (like Aconite). The skin (of the face and the body) is dry, hot and red. Unlike Aconite, there is an absence of thirst, especially during the febrile stage, and a dislike for open air. Bryonia 30 : Very slow, gradual onset of symptoms (like Gelsemium), accompanied by dryness of the eyes, the mouth, the intestines, etc.). Consequently, there is acute thirst for large quantities of cold water (like Aconite). The child lies absolutely still on the bed because even the slightest motion seems to aggravate his problems; even when coughing he holds his chest to prevent it from moving. Euphrasia 30 : Suitable during the early (catarrhal) stages of the disease if these symptoms are present: profuse watering from the eyes, causing burning and redness of eyes; however, profuse nasal discharge is bland (non-burning); cough is present only during the day-time (especially in the evening) but is absent at night. Ferrum phos 30 : Slow, gradual onset of symptoms. Fever intensifies at night or in the early morning (4 - 6 a.m.). There is throbbing headache which is relieved by cold applications. Gelsemium 30: Very slow, gradual onset of symptoms (like Bryonia, Ferrum phos) of measles, accompanied by dullness of the mind, drowsiness and dizziness. There is trembling of the limbs and the whole body. Another characteristic feature is complete absence of thirst (like Pulsatilla).
Pulsatilla 30 : This remedy, perhaps, the most important medicine for measles, is distinguished by a weeping disposition, thirstlessness (like Gelsemium) and an internal feeling of chilliness (yet the child dislikes covering and wants to be in open air).
Menopause (Cessation of Menses) Menopause marks the end of woman's reproductive life. This normal phenomenon usually occurs in late forties or early fifties but may occur much earlier or later. For most women, this transition from fertile to infertile life is smooth and uneventful. However, a few women suffer from distressing symptoms like hot flushes causing warmth in the face and ears, sweating, undue fatigue, headaches and inexplicable mood-changes. Homeopathic Treatment Check if most symptoms of any of these remedies match with most of your symptoms: Aconite 30 : Sudden, violent bursts of heat in the face with restlessness, severe anxiety and fear (of death); the vagina is dry, hot and sensitive; unquenchable thirst for large quantities of cold water; a desire to be in open air. Amyl nitrite 30: Surging of blood to the head and the face causing anxiety, palpitations, throbbing headache and a desire for open air, followed by profuse, hot perspiration and exhaustion; the lady keeps away from mental or physical exertion and frequently stretches her limbs. Lachesis 30 : Chills at night and flushes of heat in the face on awakening in the morning; the face turns pale and blue, and there is. burning heat in the top of the head followed by hot perspiration. The lady loosens clothes and desires fanning but slowly and from a distance. Other features include-trembling of the whole body, sensation of a ball in the genital organs and a talkative, jealous suspicious disposition. Pulsatilla 30 : Early stages of menopause characterised by severe irregularities of menstrual bleeding accompanied by a weeping disposition, chilliness inside the body and wandering pains in the head. There is thirstlessness and an acute craving for open air (like Aconite, Amyl). Sanguinaria 30 : Periodic headache (returning every seventh day) after menopause, which begins at the back of the head, ascends to the top of the head and settles over the right eye; headache is relieved by sleep; circumscribed redness of the cheeks and burning in palms and soles.
Sepia 30 : Flushes of heat, especially in the morning and in the evening accompanied by bursting headache relieved by external pressure; a bearing-down sensation in the pelvic region forcing the lady to keep the legs crossed lest everything escape out of the vagina; sad, weeping and indifferent (even to family members). Notes: 1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty per cent improvement occurs. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen again or reappear.
Morning Sickness (Vomiting During Pregnancy) Occasional slight vomiting in the morning is a common problem of early pregnancy. This does no harm and subsides on its own by the end of the third month of pregnancy. Sometimes, however, it extends even into the second trimester of pregnancy and/or assumes a severer form, thereby undermining health. Homeopathic Treatment Check if most symptoms of any of these remedies match with most of your symptoms: Antimonium crudum 30 : Nausea in the morning with giddiness; a sensation of abnormal fullness in the stomach after eating; frequent (almost constant) belching; thick, white coating of the tongue; alternate constipation and diarrhea (like Nux vomica); aversion to cold bathing. Arsenic 30 : Excessive nausea and vomiting, immediately after eating or drinking, leading to great exhaustion and causing undue fear (of death); burning pain in the stomach which becomes worse with cold drinks/food but is relieved by hot drinks. Cocculus 30 : Vertigo from least motion, causing nausea and vomiting and forcing the lady to lie down; a sensation of weakness and hollowness in the abdomen with acute lethargy; problems get worse if proper sleep is not obtained. Ipecacuanha 30 : Persistent nausea, which is not relieved even after vomiting; thirstlessness; clean tongue. Nux vomica 30 : Nausea and stone-like pressure in the stomach after eating, leading the lady to believe that she will feel better if she vomits; desire for stimulants like tea and coffee; frequent ineffectual desire for passing stools and urine; great tendency to catch cold, compelling the person to keep doors and windows closed and cover up even in summer.
Sepia 30: Nausea from smell or sight of fight (like Arsenic), Especially in the morning; a sensation of emptiness in the stomach which is relived by eating; a bearing-down sensation in the pelvic region, forcing the lady to keep the legs crossed. Notes: 1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty percent improvement occurs. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen again or reappear.
Mumps Mumps is a disease of children and young adults, characterised by a hard swelling over one or both cheeks due to a viral infection of the parotid (salivary) glands, accompanied by pain and fever. Homeopathic Treatment Mumps can be prevented with ease, through Homoeopathy. If cases of mumps are reported in your city or seen in your neighbourhood (or in your child's school), immediately give your child a dose of Parotidinum 200 on three successive days, to confer upon him a reasonable immunity. However, if your child has already contracted mumps, give him that remedy from the below-listed ones, whose symptoms match with those of your child: Arsenic 30: Burning pain in the affected cheek, which is better by warm / hot applications! Another distinguishing feature is undue fear (of death) causing severe anguish and restlessness. Belladonna 30 : Sudden, acute attack of mumps, affecting the right cheek, which looks red and feels hot. Though there is high fever, the child is not thirsty (like pulsatilla). Mercurius sol 30 : Hard swelling of the affected cheek with stiffness of the jaw and difficult swallowing; offensive breath; profuse offensive perspiration. The tongue is moist (due to excess saliva), thick and flabby and shows imprint of teeth (like Rhus tox). There is sweetish (or bitter) and metallic taste in the mouth and acute thirst for large quantities of cold water. Pulsatilla 30 : Severe pain in the affected cheek changing places from time to time (wandering pain) accompanied by acute chilliness (yet aversion to cover and yearning for open air). The patient, usually a girl, has a mild, weeping nature. The tongue is dry yet there is no thirst. Pain
is relieved by lying on the affected side (cheek) and by cold applications. On the other hand, warm or hot compresses worsen the pain. Rhus tox 30 : Severe soreness (a beaten-up feeling) in the affected cheek causing restlessness (like Arsenic), There is bitter taste in the mouth. The tongue, which has a darkred tip, shows imprint of teeth (like Mercurius). Soreness in the cheek lessens on applying warmth or eating warm / hot foods (like Arsenic but unlike Pulsatilla). There is great aversion to open air (unlike Pulsatilla).
Nausea or Vomiting Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines match with most of your symptoms: Arsenic 30 : Nausea and vomiting from foodpoisoning, with pressure and burning pain in the pit of the stomach. The victim cannot bear the smell or sight of food. If anything is consumed, it is soon vomited in the form of a dark, offensive fluid. Severe prostration and fear of death are important features of this medicine. Ipecac 30 : Almost constant nausea, which is not relieved by vomiting. Vomiting of whitish or greenish, jellylike mucous. Thirstlessness is an important pointer to this remedy. Nux v 30 : Nausea after eating, especially in the morning, the victim thinking he will feel better if vomiting occurs. The person keeps away from food in spite of hunger. An oversensitive nature and frequent ineffectual desire to pass stools are other features of this medicine. Phos 30 : Nausea with burning and an 'all-gone' sensation in the stomach. The victim craves and consumes cold foods/drinks which help him temporarily. However, as soon as the food gets hot in the stomach, it is vomited out. Vomitus may even contain bright red blood. Notes: 1. Discontinue the medicine when about fifty percent improvement has occurred. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen again or reappear later.
Osteoarthritis Osteoarthritis is the commonest form of arthritis caused by a gradual, progressive degeneration of the jointcartilage (pad) with advancing age. It is characterised by
1. Pain and stiffness in the affected joint (usually a joint of the lower limb) which increase very gradually over the years, 2. Absence of any real swelling, redness or warmth in the affected joint, 3. Presence of a typical crackling noise (called crepitus) on moving the joint and 4. Formation of new bone (in the form of projections called osteophytes) along the joint-margin. Homeopathic Treatment Check if most symptoms of any of these remedies match with most of your symptoms: Arnica 30 : Osteoarthritis following an injury to (e.g., a fracture of) a joint. Apart from pain and stiffness, there is a sore, beaten-up feeling in the joint. Everything on which the affected joint lies, seems too hard. Joint-pains are worse from touch (massage) or heat (unlike Rhus tox). Resting the affected joint does not relieve pain. Bryonia 30 : Joint-pain which gets worse from least motion or exertion but improves with absolute rest (compare Rhus tox). Applying heat to the joint or lying on it helps (compare Arnica). Pressing, massaging or bandaging the joint also helps. Calc phos 30 : Osteoarthritis in lean, emaciated persons. Apart from pain and stiffness, there is a sensation of numbness and crawling in the affected joint. Symptoms are worse in damp, cold weather but better in, hot, dry weather. Causticum 30 : Chronic osteoarthritis with jointdeformities from contractures of muscles. Pain is worse in clear fine weather but lessens in the monsoon. Rhus tox 30 : Osteoarthritis characterised by stiffness, pain and a feeling of soreness in the affected joint (compare Arnica). Pain and stiffness are worse after rest (inactivity) but gradually diminish on walking around (Unlike Bryonia). Joint-problems are worse in rainy weather but better by application of dry heat. Notes: 1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty per cent improvement has occurred. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen again or reappear later.
Painful Heel or Calcaneal Spur
Pain in the heel is a common problem, especially in obese persons. Homeopathic Treatment Check if most of your symptoms match with most symptoms of any of the below-given medicines: Aranea diadema 30 : For pain in the heel which is worse in damp weather (during the rains). There is a sensation of swelling in the affected heel. Calc flour 30 : For painful heel which feels better with heat treatment; especially useful for calcaneal spur. Lycopodium 30 : Pain, especially in the right heel, which is present even at rest (when not walking). The victim feels he has treaded on a pebble. The pain is worse from 4 to 8 p.m. or at night and from warm/hot applications. It improves somewhat on walking around. Notes: 1. Wear soft (padded) slippers, sandals or shoes (even in the house).
Painful Menstruation (Dysmenorrhoea) Menstrual disgrders are quite common. However, out of a feeling of shame and embarrassment, many women do not disclose their problems and continue to suffer silently. Notes: 1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty percent improvement has occurred. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen again or reappear later.
Shoulder Joint Pain/Stiffness; Frozen Shoulder Shoulder ailments are quite common. Sprained Joint Sudden twists and turns may wrench, disrupt or damage the ligaments and tendons around a joint causing 'joint sprain'. This is followed by pouring (effusion) of a fluid into the joint, swelling and pain. The most common sprains are those of the ankle, the wrist, the fingers and the knee. Since shock is always present when a sprain occurs, give a dose of Arnica 200 immediately. Arnica controls shock as well as bleeding in the tissues, and may be all that is needed. If, however, after a day or so improvement seems to Come to a standstill, Ruta graveolens 30 will help. Ruta, given four times a day, beneficially acts on wrenched and torn ligaments and promotes healing. If Ruta does not relieve pain and swelling within twenty-four hours, a deeper-acting remedy Symphytum 30 can be tried. Symphytum, made from a plant comfrey, was called 'knit-bone' by ancient physicians. On the other hand, if pain and stiffness are worse after a period of rest (i.e., when beginning to move) and better after some activity, Rhus tox 30 given every six to eight hours will help. Other homoeopathic remedies worth considering when treating jointsprains are

and rapid, bounding pulse. The victim is dizzy, nauseated, weak and, generally, has a headache. If not treated in time, vomiting, delirium, convulsions or unconsciousness may occur. Even more important than homoeopathic remedies are the following firstaid measures: 1. Move the victim into shade. 2. HOMEOPATHIC Treatment & Medicines for URINARY TRACT INFECTION, ENEURESIS, PYLONEPHRITIS, NEPHRITIS, RENAL STONES
#Cantharis.
[Canth]
Cantharis symptoms are usually the first ones inquired after when a case of urinary difficulty presents itself. Its symptoms are clear cut, and should not be confounded with those of any other remedy. There is a persistent and violent urging to urinate, with great tenesmus; the urine is passed only in drops and seems like molten lead passing through the
urethra,
so
intense
is
the
burning.
There is with this, usually an aching in the small of the back. It is often indicated in acute cystitis, gravel and urethritis, the great keynotes being the burning and the tenesmus of the bladder; haematuria also calls for Cantharis under certain conditions. Baehr doubts that Cantharis is ever suitable to the chronic form of cystitis. #Mercurius
corrosivus
[Merc-c]
Has tenesmus of the bladder with intense burning. The burning is less, but the tenesmus is greater, than in Cantharis. The passing of the urine drop by drop reminds of Aconite, which has the same symptoms. Aconite, however, is adapted to sudden retention of
urine, for as soon as the disease becomes fully localized as an inflammation Aconite ceases to be the remedy. Cantharis and Nux vomica have also a similarity in the frequent fruitless efforts to urinate. In the region of the kidneys there is cutting pain which extends into the abdomen, the bladder and urethra. The most distressing symptom is the constant urging to urinate, even a few spoonfuls of urine in the bladder bringing on this urging, which is accompanied by the terrible distress at the neck of the bladder. This pain is aggravated immediately following micturition, showing that with this drug the trouble is more urethral. The urine itself under Cantharis is of a deep red color, deposits a
sediment
of
mucus
and
often
contain
fibrinous
casts.
Belladonna, too, is a remedy for painful urination. Hughes says that it is a rarely failing remedy for nervous dysuria. #Apis
mellifica.
[Apis]
The symptoms of scanty urine always leads one to consider whether Apis is or is not the remedy, for although Apis produces scanty urine there are number of other drugs that will do the same thing. The keynotes for Apis in urinary affections are scanty or suppressed urine, drowsiness, oedema in in various parts, thirstlessness and suffocation on lying down. The urine is dark, highly albuminous, and contains casts, so it is readily seen how Apis may correspond to any form of Bright's disease. In difficult micturition of children Apis is often a useful remedy. It has frequent desire, with the passage of a few drops at a time. Among other symptoms are great irritation at the neck of the bladder and incontinence of urine. It is also the remedy to be thought of in retained urine or inflamed bladder after abuse of Cantharis. #Apocynum
cannabinum.
[Apoc]
Apocynum seems to act some what on the kidneys and give rise to various dropsical conditions. It produces a scanty urine, which is light in color, or, as it is given, sherrycolored. Its first effect is to produce a copious diuresis; this is followed by the scantiness of urine which results in dropsy. It also produces an incontinence and may be useful in enuresis. A sinking bruised feeling at the stomach is an indication for its use. it differs from Arsenic and Apis in the fact that it has unquenchable thirst. Arsenic wants little and often, Apis is thirstless. #Berberis
vulgaris.
[Berb]
Outside of its action on the genito urinary system Berberis is seldom thought of,land it is one of our principal remedies for troubles of this system. It seems to correspond to many symptoms which occur in cases of renal calculi. It has severe tearing pains in the kidneys, not merely backache, but pains deep in the kidneys themselves; these pains extend down the back in the kidneys themselves; these pains extend down the back and
down the ureters into the bladder;nor do stop here, for we find cutting pains in the bladder extending into the urethra. These pains in the back and along the ureters are very severe; they are worse stooping, lying or sitting, and relieved by standing. In the bladder they cause a desire to urinate, and the patient is constantly urinating, for the bladder seems imperfectly emptied. The bladder aches. The urine itself is reddish, has a reddish deposit consisting of mucus, epithelium and lithates. It differs from the Pareira brava urine in being more slimy. Another characteristic symptoms of Berberis is pain in the hips while urinating. Coccus cacti has some similar symptoms to Berberis, especially the tearing pains extending from the region of the kidneys, the frequent urging to urinate, the deposits of uric acid and the urine of Coccus cacti is dark. These remedies must be distinguished very carefully as they present many symptoms in common. Berberis has rather more back pains, and seems to act deeper. It is especially indicated in genitourinary troubles, which are due to conditions of atony, or faiblesse. #Pareira
brava.
[Pareir]
This is another drug very similar to Berberis vulgaris-as to pains in the back it is quite similar; yet they do not stop in the hips with Pareira as they do under mostly clinical. It has been found useful in cystitis where there is violent straining to urinate, where the patient has to kneel to urinate, where the urine scalds terribly and where these violent pains in the thighs are present. The urine has a strong ammoniacal odor. Contains thick viscid white mucus or deposits or red sand. The three-legged stool of the drug seems to be: the pain in the thighs, the getting down on all fours to urinate, and the ammoniacal odor of the urine. It is also a useful remedy in the condition known as irritable bladder, dull aching in bladder, feeling as if the bladder were distended, with pain. #Equisetum
hyemale.
[Equis]
Equisetum acts similarly to Cantharis, but it has less tenesmus and haematuria, and the urine is less scalding. There is pain in the bladder as if too full, not relieved by micturition; the constant desire to urinate is not even relieved by copious urination. The urine is scanty, high colored and contains much mucus. Much mucus in the urine is more indicative of Equisetum than of Cantharis. Chimaphila also has much mucus, is especially useful in prostatic troubles, and has made some cures when there were great quantities of ropy mucus in the urine, which was quite offensive. This is a wonderful remedy in the cystic irritation of old men, characterizesd by a constant teasing desire to urinate with little or no relief following micturition; the patient being frequently compelled to rise at night. The state is one of irritation rather than inflammation. Dr. Hughes considered it a favorite remedy in chronic cystitis. The general aggravation of Equisetum seems to be after urinating. Difficulty in beginning to urinate, strains a great deal, scanty urine. It has proved useful in enuresis with marked vesical irritation, being similar here to Eupatorium
purpureum, which is a useful remedy in the vesical irritation of women, with much burning in the urethra during urination. With the foregoing symptoms, Equisetum becomes an important remedy in the treatment of cystitis. It has been suggested in the dysuria of children; the pain being worse after urinating will distinguish it from Petroselinum, which has the symptom that the child dances up and down with pain when the urging to urinate comes on. #Digitalis
purpurea.
[Dig]
The urinary symptoms of Digitalis consist of a dragging and pressure in the bladder which micturition does not relieve. It has been found useful in inflammation in the neck of the bladder with intense desire to urinate, which is increased even by the passage of a few drops. The patient walks about in great distress; at the same time there is tenesmus of the rectum. The patient is relieved somewhat of these symptoms by lying on the back. The pain at neck of the bladder is throbbing. The urine is scanty, thick and turbid, and contains a sediment of brick-dust, like Lycopodium. The urging to urinate in cases calling for Digitalis is often due to the enlargement of the prostate gland, for which it is a remedy. #Terebinth.
[Tereb]
The urine of Terebinth is one of its most characteristic features. It is smoky, turbid, depositing a sediment like coffee grounds, which indicates the presence of disintegrated blood cells. Haematuria from venous congestion of the kidneys calls often for Terebinth. It has burning during micturition and most painful strangury; the urine, too, may contain albumen and has the odor of violets. Peculiar odors to urine may be fond under the Viola tricolor, where it smells like that of the cat, and Benzoic acid, where it smells strong and ammoniacal, like that of a horse. Terebinth is a useful remedy in cystitis, with much tenesmus of the bladder and the scanty, bloody urine; there is also pressure in the bladder, which extends to the kidneys. In acute and chronic nephritis it is often indicated. The urine, oedema and the bronchial catarrh may all point to the remedy. #Nux
vomica.
[Nux-v]
Nux vomica affects powerfully the urinary organs, yet it is seldom thought of as having anything specially characteristic about these organs. It affects the lower part of the spine, and we have as a consequence, in the first place, incontinence of urine; there is irritability at the neck of the bladder, and the same symptoms is found here as with the rectum. There are frequent ineffectual efforts to urinate, and these are accompanied by burning and tearing pains; the urine passes in drops. Again, it is indicated in vesical torpor or paralysis; here we have dribbling of urine or retention. Haematuria from abuse of drugs calls of Nux vomica. Cystitis, with this painful urging and scanty urine indicates
the remedy. The straining is violent at times, and the urine is dark with a red brick-dust sediment,
or
bloody,
or
mixed
with
a
tenacious
mucus.
Opium is similar to Nux in having a partial paralysis of the bladder with spasmodic condition of the sphincter, but with Opium the patient is unconscious that the bladder is full, and there is no desire to pass water. The Stramonium patient passes no water because

urine.
Nux is useful in the irritable bladder of gout and alcoholism, and to relieve pain and spasm in the passage of urinary calculi. #Causticum.
[Caust]
In paralytic conditions about the bladder Causticum deserves first place. It is one of our great remedies in enuresis, and its characteristics are involuntary micturition at night in sleep, when coughing, sneezing or blowing the nose, showing a weakness of the sphincter. Another indication of this is the difficulty the patient has in passing the last few drops of urine; the fact that he has to wait a long time before it starts, and that during the act it is expelled very slowly, showing not only a weakness of the sphincter but a weakness of the whole muscular system of the bladder. Nocturnal wetting of the bed in children, occurring during the first sleep at night, calls for Causticum. Paralysis of the bladder after labor also calls for this remedy. Zincum is another excellent remedy in these bladder troubles, and it has some symptoms similar to Causticum, such as involuntary spurting of urine when coughing or sneezing; there is apt to be more pain in Zincum cases, however; Scilla and Natrum muriaticum also have involuntary micturition when coughing. Another symptom of Causticum is an excessive deposit of urates in the urine. Another remedy which clinically has proved very useful in enuresis from weakened muscular action is Ferrum phosphoricum. Rhus aromatica has enuresis of nervous origin, and has been used successfully in senile cases. #Sepia.
[Sep]
One of the prominent remedies for lithaemic conditions is Sepia, and the condition of the urine becomes an indication for its use. It has a reddish clay-colored sediment adhering to the vessel, a sediment of red sand so-called. The Sepia urine differs from others in being offensive. Sepia is also a remedy for wetting the bed at night during the first sleep. Lycopodium is a prominent remedy for the indication of red sand in the urine. It is a sort of gravel and is passed in quantities, so that often the child will scream with pain on passing the water. Lycopodium will then help. Sarsaparilla and Benzoic acid have similar symptoms, the latter having as a characteristic a strong horse-like urine. Natrum muriaticum also has their red sand or brick-dust sediment. Another remedy having this symptom very marked in Ocimum canum. This is a very useful remedy in renal colic and
gravel. The patient has to micturate every few minutes, during which he wrings his hands and groans with pain. Nausea is often present. The quantity of sand deposited is very large. In cystitis, with a constant desire to urinate and dragging in the bladder, Sepia may prove useful; here it will be indicated by its general Symptoms. Vesicaria is recommended to favor expulsion of gravel and sand in urine, also Thalspi bursa Pastoris.
#Mercurius
corrosivus.
[Merc-c]
A remedy affecting the genitourinary tract profoundly is Mercurius corrosivus. It has the most violent tenesmus of the bladder of an remedy, resembling most closely Cantharis; it has also extreme burning, and hence is indicated in cystitis with these symptoms, or in kidney troubles associated with this pain in the neck of the bladder. The patient has frequent calls but passes little urine, and the urine is bloody and albuminous. It is one of the comparatively few remedies producing albumen in the urine. Phosphorous is another, and Plumbum yet another, and all three have proved serviceable in Bright's disease. The great vesical tenesmus, burning, and bloody urine will indicate this remedy at once, whether it be in cystitis, albuminuria after diphtheria or kidney disease.
Biochemic Cell Salts CALCAREA FLUORICUM
For glandular tumors, varicose veins, prolapsus uterus, bone affections etc This salt is indicated in all diseases affecting the substance forming the surface of the bone, the enamel of the teeth and part of elastic fibres, no matter in what structure they may be found. A deficiency of the elastic fibres in the muscular tissue causes a relaxation, which is a primary condition in many diseases. Indicated in all ailments that can be traced to a relaxed condition of the elastic fibres, including dilatation of blood vessels such as blood-tumors, piles, enlarged and varicose veins, indurated glands, enlargement of the heart, relaxed uvula, prolapsed of the womb, etc. Also useful in the diseases of the respiratory organs with difficult expectoration of small yellow lumps. The symptoms are all worse in damp weather and are relieved by fomentation and by rubbing.
CALCAREA PHOSPHORICUM For anaemia, chlorosis, deficient development, dentition disorders, bone affections, dyspepsia etc. The sphere of the Phosphate of Lime includes all bone diseases, whether due to some inherited dyscrasia or to defective nutrition in osseous and other structures dependent upon a proper distribution of lime molecules in the body. It is the bone cell-salt. Without this element, no bone can be formed and hence it is a valuable remedy in childhood when the bones are in the condition of being formed. Cal. Phos. is also found in the gastric juice and plays an important part in the process of digestion and assimilation. It is of importance in anaemia, in chlorosis, in convulsions and spasms, in weak scrofulous subjects; during dentition when the teeth are slow in making their appearance and decay too rapidly; also in other teething disorders. In convalescence after acute and chronic wasting diseases, it acts as a tonic by building up new red blood corpuscles and by restoring the lost vitality. Deficient development of children and young people emaciation without apparent cause onanism, suppuration of bones, spinal weakness and curvature. Aids the union of fractured bones. Rheumatism of the joints, chronic enlargements of the tonsils and goiter. Cholera infantum, faeces hot and offensive. Dyspepsia; food seems to lie in a lump; vomiting after cold drinks. Symptoms are aggravated by getting wet or by washing and working in water,
FERRUM PHOSPHORICUM For acute congestions, inflammations, fevers, etc. Ferrum Phos. Is given in the initial stage of all congestions, inflammations and fevers. This salt possesses an affinity or attraction for oxygen and carries it to all parts of the body and hence is an important agent in all diseases in which the blood and the corpuscles are involved. Consequently, the first remedy in all cases depending upon the relaxed condition of the muscular tissue and in abnormal conditions of the corpuscles of the blood themselves. It gives strength to the circular wall of the blood vessels. It supplies the colour to the blood corpuscles. A deficiency of this cell salt is the cause of fevers and inflammatory conditions and so indicated in all febrile disturbances and in inflammatory and congestive diseases at the beginning, especially before exudation has commenced. The principal accompaniments of these conditions calling for Ferrum Phos are manifested by flushed face, fever with full pulse, hot, dry skin, thirst, pain and redness

KALI MURIATICUM For second stage of inflammatory diseases, diphtheria, croup, catarrh, pneumonia, glandular swellings, deafness etc. Kali Mur. is given for the sequel of all inflammations, for exudations and infiltrations, especially of a fibrous character and in inflammations of serous membranes, when the exudation is plastic in nature. A most excellent remedy in the later stages of all catarrhal states. This cell-salt works with the fibrine, which is found in every tissue of the organism except boric. In inflammatory exudations we find fibrine in the serous cavities and on the mucous membranes. The use of Kali Mur. usually follows Ferrum Phos. in inflammatory disorders. The characteristic symptoms of Kali Mur which is always indicated in the second stage of the inflammatory diseases, are glandular swellings, discharges or expectorations of a thick, white fibrinous consistency, white or gray exudations and a white or gray coating of the tongue. The efficacy of this remedy is demonstrated in chronic catarrhal conditions, croup, diphtheria, dysentery, pneumonia etc. Diarrhoea with pale, yellow faces. With Ferrum Phos is should be given in coughs. Useful in deafness from the catarrh of the Eustachian tubes, in skin eruptions with small vesicles containing yellowish secretions, ulcerations, ulcerations with swelling and white exudations, in rheumatism with swelling of the parts, in leucorrhoea and gonorrhea with
characteristic discharge. Symptoms in general are worse from motion, while gastric and abdominal symptoms are worse after taking pastry, rich and fatty foods. KALI PHOSPHORICUM For neurasthenic condition in general, sleeplessness. Kali Phos. is a constituent of the brain, nerves, muscles and blood vessels. It unites with albumen and creates nerve fluid or the gray matter of the brain. Nervous symptoms indicate a deficiency of this cell-salt, which must be supplied to restore the normal condition. Whatever disease can be traced to the nerve degeneracy, we enter the field of Kali Phos. Nervous condition known as neurasthenia is a field in which this salt has become prominently curative. The results of the want of nerve power, such as prostration, loss of mental vigor, depression, brain-fag, softening of the brain, insanity, paralysis, epilepsy, hysteria, locomotor ataxia and when there is rapid decomposition of the blood. It is curative in septic haemorrhages, scorbutus, gangrene, stomatitis, offensive carrion-like diarrhoea, dysentery, a dynamic or typhoid conditions, incontinence of urine, urticaria, predisposition of epistaxis in children, dizziness and vertigo from sleeplessness, nervous exhaustion, nervous dyspepsia, asthma, neuralgia, nervous headaches, tongue coated as if with dark liquid mustard. Symptoms are aggravated from noise, by mental or physical exertion, by rising from a sitting position. Pains worse in cold and ameliorated by gentle motion. KALI SULPHURICUM For third stage of inflammatory or catarrhal condition, leucorrhoea, diarrhoea, skin diseases, rheumatism, ulcerations, dyspepsia Kali Sulph is a carrier of oxygen. It furnishes vitality to the epithelial tissues. Light yellow, sticky and watery secretions are the characteristics of this remedy. The chief indication for this remedy is yellow deposit on the tongue. It has been given in bronchitis with yellow, slimy or thin, watery expectoration, in whooping cough, pneumonia pthisis, skin diseases with a sticky yellowish secretion and peeling off of the epidermis. Epithelioma, rheumatism, retrocession of eruptions in measles. Dyspepsia with slimy yellow coating of the tongue, catarrh of the bowels, diarrhoea, leucorrhoea, ophthalmia etc; with light yellow, watery secretions; dandruff; yellow scales in skin diseases. MAGNESIA PHOSPHORICUM For convulsions, epilepsy, cramps and spasmodic affections, neuralgia, sciatica. It is a constituent of muscles, nerves, brain, bone, spine, teeth and blood corpuscles. It helps to create the white fibres of the muscles and nerves. It uses water and albumen to form the transparent fluid, which nourishes the white threads and fibres of nerves and muscles. The deficiency of this salt allows the fibres to contract, causing spasms, cramps, convulsions and other nervous phenomena. It is a remedy to be thought of in all maladies having their origin in nerve cells and in the muscular tissue. It is particularly indicated in lean, thin, emaciated persons of a highly nervous temperament. Magnesia patient is always languid, tired and easily exhausted. The value of this remedy is shown in all forms of spasms, cramps, tetanus. St. Vitu's dance, epilepsy, spasmodic retention of urine, paralysis agitans, hiccup, whooping cough, chorea. Relieved by warmth pressure, friction and by bending double. NATRUM MURIATICUM For catarrhal affections with thin, clear, transparent, watery secretions, influenza, hayfever, diarrhoea, constipation, leucorrhoea, intermittent fevers and skin diseases. This salt is a constituent of every liquid and solid part of the body. Its function is to regulate the degree of moisture within the cells. It properly distributes the water through the organism. Deficiency in this salt causes the disturbance of water in the human organism. An unequal distribution of water in the system sometimes causes excessive dryness of mucous membranes in some part, while there may be a copious, watery fluid from another part. Naturm Mur. will set things right and will establish equilibrium. It acts upon the lymphatic system, the blood, liver, spleen and upon the mucous lining of' the alimentary canal. It is indicated in headache, toothache, faceache, stomachache and also where there is either salivation or hyper secretion of tears or vomiting of water and

It has also the power to eliminate any excess of sugar from the blood. This is the remedy in all cases where there is an excess of lactic acid. It acts also upon the bowels, glands, lungs and abdominal organs. Deficiency of this salt in the gastric juice will bring about acid and sour fermentations, and so it cures sour belching and sour rising of fluids. Sour vomiting, sour eructation with flatulence, greenish, sour smelling, diarrhoea, colic, spasms due to acid conditions of the stomach. Fever from acidity of stomach in children. Febrile condition with acid and sour smelling perspiration. Ague with characteristic coating of the tongue. Thick, moist, golden yellow coating of the tongue and palate and also a creamy yellowish exudation are the characteristic symptoms calling for this remedy. Eye complaints discharging a creamy yellow matter. Intestinal worms. Incontinence of urine in children with acidity. Atony of bladder, seminal emissions without dreams, leucorrhoea. with creamy or honey colored or acid and watery discharge, uterine displacements accompanied by rheumatic pains. Goiter, scrofulosis with acid symptoms. Hives, crusta lactea. NATRUM SULPHURICUM For hepatic diseases, bilious attacks, intermittent fevers, headaches, diarrhoea, diabetes, asthma, la grippe, dropsy.

Vomiting in pregnancy with bitter taste, fistulous abscesses discharging watery secretions, tendency to warts around the eyes, scalp, face, chest and arms etc. Symptoms are worse in the morning, in damp, wet weather and from lying on left side. Relief in warm dry weather and in the open air. SILICEA For chronic suppurations and ulcerations, carbuncles, tonsillitis, glandular swellings, indurations, scrofula, foot sweats, uterine disorders. It acts more upon the organic substances of the body, involving prominently bones, joints, glands, skin and mucous surfaces, producing malnutrition and corresponding to the scrofulous diathesis. Its action is deep and long lasting. It is especially suited to imperfectly nourished constitutions. It is a remedy for deep-seated chronic and acute suppurations and ulcerations, affecting the tendons, periosteum and bone. promotes suppuration.
