The Wu Lou, A Traditional Feng Shui Health Cure for your Home or Workplace. The Wu lou as it is known in Chinese, is a dried gourd, commonly called a bottle gourd, pilgrim gourd or calabash in the rest of the world. The wu lou has a double round shape, and it should be painted in a metal colour, or left its natural gold colour, but polished, having been left to dry out. It should also have a hole drilled in it, either at the top or on the side as shown. Our locally grown Tao Garden wu lou are very stur sturdy, dy, with outside skin much stronger than their European cousins; and they are painted gold.

It is well known in many cultures, and often associated with health.

If eaten as a vegetable, there are many health health-improving improving claims for its properties, but it is the whole, dried gourd we use in feng shui. Ancient Chinese art often depicts paintings of it being carried, mainly by medicine men; it was used to transport potions or just drinks. One of the 8 immortals, Li Tieh Kuai carries one. They can be found made de out of ceramics or metal too. The ancient Hawaiians used large calabashes with the wu lou shape as a percussion instrument. The largest ones, considered sacred, were known as the Sacred Ipu. It was, and still is, part of a dancer’s rite to learn how to condition their ipu from the plant itself as well as making other instruments and costumes from nature – like those grass hula skirts in common imagery. Taoists believe that it allows communication between heaven and earth, from the theory that its shape is like the trigram Tui (Dui in pinyin), one yin line on top of 2 yang lines. It represents the West, Autumn, soft metal and it is considered a ‘cure’ for amongst other things, some of the negative health energy of the trigram kun, the black earth star 2 in feng shui. It has been used by Taoist monks to take bad or sickness energy or spirits away from a room, as it absorbs them through the hole or mouth. So we can see them as curative or preventative of health and relationship issues. Tao Garden has been making some with a special mouth – lips and lipstick to further illustrate that the trigam tui represents the youngest daughter, the lake, joy, pleasure and its representative organ is the mouth.

North West part of the home home. These are annual cures common to all buildings. If you have a flying star feng shui energy chart of your home, then the wu lou may be placed where there is a 2 mountain star, or a 2 time star, or 2 water star. Place them equally by your bed, or in the room where a sick person lives, or where you spend most of your time. There are also monthly moving energies in feng shui and the monthly 2 sickness energy (or star) will visit every part of your building at some point - once every nine months. There are also daily energies so the black 2 star will visit every sector at some point, although daily energies are not as strong as annual or the building’s flying star chart energies. You can have as many Wu lou as you like in your home to help get rid of bad energy, they have no detrimental effect on you and they make attractive, unusual ornaments. http://www.universal-tao.com http://mantakchia.com http://tao-garden.com
