Certificate of Completion

Course Fees

Certification is awarded upon successful completion of required courses and submission of official HCC transcript to the appropriate HCC Office of Corporate Training and Continuing Education. Successful certificate completion requires 80% attendance and achievement of learning objectives in all designated courses.

Tuition and fees are indicated by each course listing. When noted, materials and texts are extra. Prices are subject to change without notice.

Attendance

Participants may also elect to take any individual course separate from certificate requirements.

Continuing Education courses have attendance requirements, and also require satisfactory completion of the course objectives in order for students to receive a certificate of successful completion.

Eligibility for Enrollment

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Continuing Education courses are open to individuals 17 years of age or older. Kids College accepts younger students.

One CEU is 10 contact hours of successful participation/completion in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction. CEUs are not substituted for college credit hours, but rather are a means of reporting continuing education activities. Transcripts listing CEU credits satisfactorily completed are available on request. CEUs are recognized internationally as a measure of substantial professional education and training.

Senior Tuition Waiver Seniors age 55 and over may enroll in specified courses and receive a $10 tuition discount waiver per continuing education course. Proof of age will be required.

Prerequisites Most Continuing Education courses are open to students who feel they can benefit from the instruction; however, some courses are restricted to those students with specific prerequisites. Please check course descriptions.

Notification of Class Changes Every effort is made to begin and hold class at the designated time. Each class is contingent on the required minimum number of students. Occasionally, extenuating circumstances arise requiring a cancellation or delay. In such cases, we attempt to notify all students by telephone.

Textbooks, Supplies, and Materials For most non-computer classes, students will be notified of the need for texts, supplies, and other materials at the first class meeting. Textbook selections are kept within a moderate price range, and the cost of supplies and materials for classes is based upon the size or complexity of the project chosen by the student.

Houston Community College reserves the right, when necessary to cancel classes, alter schedules, or substitute instructors. Students are not notified if a class has made. Students are contacted only in the event of a class cancellation or change.

The appropriate text can be found by class number. Students are expected to purchase their computer books prior to the first day of class and to bring their books to each class meeting.

Refund Policy For continuing education courses fewer than 360 contact hours, full refund will be made if a student withdraws prior to the first class date, or in the case of college error or class cancellation.

Dropping a Class Prior to the first scheduled class meeting, students must complete a Drop form in a Campus/Center office. Requests made after class has begun result in No Refund. Materials fees paid to instructors are not refundable.

Refunds are processed as soon as possible. They are generally mailed four to six weeks following the last day to apply for a refund. Any refund mailed to the name and address on record is considered delivered. The Stop Payment Fee to reissue a refund check mailed to an incorrect address is $20. Tuition and fees paid directly to the institution by a sponsor, grants, loans, donor, or scholarship shall be refunded to the source rather than directly to the student. Fees paid by other third parties, such as friends or relatives, will be refunded directly to the student.

Emergency Closings In the event of severe weather, such as hurricanes, ice storms or other acts of nature that may create hazardous conditions and/or extended power outages, college administrators may find it necessary to close the college. In this case, students and faculty are advised to listen to local area radio and television stations for announcements and updates or log on to www.school-closings.net.

Change of Schedule A Program Adjustment Form must be initiated through the campus office of Continuing Education for all class changes.

Special Calling

Building Maintenance for Multi-Family Dwellings Most craft workers specialize in one kind of work, such as plumbing or carpentry. General maintenance and repair workers, however, have skills in many different crafts. They repair and maintain machines, mechanical equipment and buildings, and work on plumbing, airconditioning, heating and electrical systems. They build partitions, make plaster or drywall repairs, and fix or paint roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork and other parts of building structures. They also maintain and repair specialized equipment and machinery found in cafeterias, laundries, hospitals, factories stores and offices. Typical duties include troubleshooting and fixing electrical switches, air-conditioning motors and unclogging drains. New buildings have computer-controlled systems sometimes that allow maintenance workers to make adjustments in building settings and monitor for problems from a central location. For example, they can remotely control light sensors that turn off lights automatically after a set amount of time or identify a broken ventilation fan that needs to be replaced. This 336 – hour course is designed to prepare students for repair technician jobs in Multi-Family dwellings. Areas of study include, but not limited to a hands on approach to electrical, carpentry, appliances, plumbing, HVAC repair and preventative maintenance.

New! Property Maintenance

Overview

Building Maintenance for Multi-Family Units

A study of components, applications, and installation of mechanical air conditioning systems including operating conditions, troubleshooting, repair, and charging of air conditioning systems. After completion of this class students will be prepared to take the EPA Certification Test. The class will prepare the students to work in apartment complexes in air conditioning maintenance or assist in residential A/C installation and services. Students will learn field terminology in English to facilitate professional and technical growth.

Most craft workers specialize in one kind of work, such as plumbing or carpentry. General maintenance and repair workers, however, have skills in many different crafts. They repair and maintain machines, mechanical equipment, and buildings and work on plumbing, electrical, and air-conditioning and heating systems. They build partitions, make plaster or drywall repairs, and fix or paint roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, and other parts of building structures. They also maintain and repair specialized equipment and machinery found in cafeterias, laundries, hospitals, stores, offices, and factories. Typical duties include troubleshooting and fixing faulty electrical switches, repairing airconditioning motors, and unclogging drains. New buildings sometimes have computer-controlled systems that allow maintenance workers to make adjustments in building settings and monitor for problems from a central location. For example, they can remotely control light sensors that turn off lights automatically after a set amount of time or identify a broken ventilation fan that needs to be replaced.
