II. INFORMATION ABOUT THE COURSE

This course involves the preparation and performance of easy works for guitar duet, guitar trio, or guitar quartet.

It focuses on the basics of ensemble-playing to prepare students for more serious chamber music works involving

guitar in the future. Students are required to study representative works from the different styles using reliable editions. The class meetings are basically rehearsals and coaching sessions. These rehearsals will culminate to a final performance or recital. Therefore, attendance is mandatory because ensemble members rely on each other to produce one satisfying result.

COURSE GOALS

At the end of the course, the students will have: Learned the importance of participation in an ensemble Understood the styles and structures of the works studied Known the composers’ background and compositional style Understood and applied proper performance practice of each pieces Developed musical sensitivity Created an atmosphere of team spirit Developed confidence and stage presence Developed ensemble playing techniques Developed sound attitudes during performance and avoided undesirable gestures Trained the ear to listen intelligently and critically to fellow ensemble players Improved sight-reading

COURSE REQUIREMENTS The students are expected to: Attend classes regularly Attend additional rehearsals Prepare money for the photocopying of scores Devote time for personal listening of materials being studied Participate in the culminating activity Attend the Saturday Concert Series and other lectures/master classes/concerts inside and outside the campus
