Job Description of Graphic Design Internship I. Internship Introduction If you love to learn, we'd love your help! This is a virtual/remote opportunity -- i.e., you can work from anywhere. Working hour is flexible and depends on specific project. However, commitment of 10 hours per week, and six months or a year is given priority and consideration. Chinook Fund is a community foundation. It pools the resources of individuals and businesses to support the best of peer-reviewed grassroots organizations working for social change and to improve the quality of life for all Coloradans. Interns will gain valuable team project experience as well as have the opportunity to influence and implement some individual projects. Interns at the Chinook Fund can expect to build specific skills in the following areas: Gain practical experience in graphic designing to build graphics that demonstrate value & impact of nonprofit organizations; Increase planning, organizational and time management skills; Learn project design, management, and delivery; Increase knowledge of nonprofit-specific technology tools; Develop team-based work competencies; Opportunities to participate in programmatic components of Chinook’s operations including participation in program committee meetings, grantmaking coordination, and events and trainings. II. Projects and Responsibilities The Graphic Design Intern will be supporting Chinook Fund Multimedia activities including social media campaigns and on/offline marketing. Detailed duties for specific projects will include: Design logo, and Infographic for Fundraising campaign; Design poster and brochure for Block party and quarterly engagement activities; Design witty image macros and quotes to put on our Social Media Platforms, such as Facebook, Official Website, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram; Assist in designing and updating our Website, and organizing Social Media Platforms. III. Qualities/Experiences Desired The Graphic Design Intern should demonstrate: Creative thinking—ability to create new design style, and modify and customize excising designs, to fulfill needs of specific project and reach the targeted population; Advanced in typography, print design and layout, web design, photography, and social media marketing (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.); Proficiency in digital tools such as: Adobe InDesign, PhotoShop, Flash, QuarlEpress, Illustrator;
An awareness of structures of power, privilege, and oppression; A good sense of humor and the ability to get along with many types of leaders; Ability to interact with diverse populations with respect and critical self-reflection; High level of initiative, as well as excellent time management and project management skills, to be able to work on several different projects concurrently and meet deadlines on time or early; High level of accountability and ability to work well both independently and as a part of a team; Ability to be flexible with Chinook Fund’s changing needs, a high comfort level with web-based communication and web-based programs.
