Description

Here are some tips which may help you to master the English Language!

It is important to understand that every word in a sentence has a job to do, a role in the sentence.

A noun is a word used to name a person, place, thing, idea or quality.

Thing: beach ball Person: cowboy

Place: church

Idea:  justice

: The bus inspector looked at all the passengers' passes. : The manager was trying to write a want ad, but he couldn't decide whether he was advertising for a "waiter" or a "waitress"

Pronouns are small words that take the place of a noun. Pronouns are words like: he, you, ours, and themselves. If  we didn't have pronouns, we would have to repeat a lot of nouns.

Can be used as the subject of a verb. The subject of a sentence is the person, animal, place or thing that does the action shown by the verb. Ex: Ahmed goes to school. He is a student.

Can be used as the object of the sentence. The object of a sentence is the person, animal, place or thing that receives the action shown by the verb.

EX: He gave her some books.

Possessive Pronouns show something belongs to someone

that

: Look over there, those seats are yours.

The possessive adjective modifies the noun following it in order to show possession.

: Can we bring our children?

An adjective is a word that tells us something about a noun (person, an animal, a thing or a place).

: The clown's sad smile touched us deeply.

An adverb modifies (adds more to the meaning of) a verb, an adjective or another adverb.

:I

called you last night. (called = verb; last night=adverb) : Your dress is very beautiful. (beautiful = adjective; very = adverb) : The rain stopped quite suddenly .

(suddenly = adverb; quite = adverb)

Verbs are words that show action. Every sentence must have a verb. : The kidnapper asked for 200 000 $ to set the hostage free.

An interjection is a word added to a sentence to convey emotion. It is not grammatically related to any other part of the sentence. (Oh! Ah! Wow! Darn! Gosh! Golly! Gee! Ow! Ouch) : Oh no, I forgot that the exam was today.

With the present simple, we often use adverbs of frequency to say „how often‟ we do something [Usually  –  often  –  rarely  –  never  –  always  – sometimes – scarcely – seldom].

These adverbs of frequency go  before the main verb but after verb to be.  Ex: I often go to the cinema.

She is always careful.

We can also put them at the very beginning or end of the sentence. This makes them stronger:  Ex: Often I go to the cinema.

I go to the cinema often. But never: I go often to the cinema.

OR It’s twenty-five past four

OR It’s four twenty-five in the afternoon

In English we use o'clock only at the full hour. Example: It's seven o'clock

10:25

I usually get up at a quarter past seven - that's seven fifteen in the morning. I pray and have breakfast at eight o'clock. Then I take the company‟s bus at eight thirty. Sometimes I go to work on foot to keep my fitness.

My morning is usually pretty busy. Once I arrive at my office I love to start my day with few verses of  Quran. Then I check my mail while am drinking a hot cup of  coffee. I like taking a coffee break  at twenty to eleven if possible. another break at three fifteen.

I usually finish work at a quarter to five and arrive home around six in the evening. At night, I usually go to bed at eleven o'clock.
