MSc Business Programmes One year full-time or two years part-time* These programmes are designed to help you acquire a strong understanding of business processes and procedures and to develop the skills necessary for a career in your chosen area of business. [email protected] to verify the level of their qualification. A degree equivalent of level 8 is required. Programme Structure The MSc programmes are divided into 3 semesters. Semester 1 (30 credits), Semester 2 (30 credits) and the Summer Term (30 credits). Each semester you will complete a number of core and option modules and in most cases you will be required to complete a research project and/or modules in the summer term. *Part-time With the exception of iBusiness and Project Management, MSc Business parttime classes are held during the working day. Part-time students will have approximately 6 hours of class a week - 3 two hour sessions each week during term time, which can take place during the hours of 9-5. If you are in full-time employment, employer support is usually essential to undertake an MSc Business programme on a part-time basis. See page 34 for information on evening, weekend and distance learning part-time options.

MSc in iBusiness One year full-time or two years part-time (Part-time classes held 2 evenings per week) What is the course about? This programme provides you with the knowledge, perspectives and skills with which to effectively manage innovation in businesses and organisations by means of advanced information and communication technologies (ICT). The programme is suitable for business and IT graduates, ICT professionals and general business professionals who seek to increase their knowledge of how ICT can deliver business value and to acquire the skills to use ICT products and services to innovate in their own functional areas. An undergraduate degree in business, computer science or a related area is ideal for this course Where can I go? The MSc in iBusiness will prepare you for careers such as: • ICT Solution Development Managers in technology companies such as IBM, Google, Microsoft, Adobe, Eircom • Business Analysts in major consulting companies such as Accenture, KPMG, PWC • ICT Project Leaders interfacing with solution providers in businesses such as banks, pharmaceuticals, retailing, exporters and public sector organisations seeking efficiency and competitiveness through ICT. • Entrepreneurial start-ups which deliver or leverage ICT solutions • PhD candidature leading to an academic or industry research position Prizes The Irish American Partnership in conjunction with UCD School of Business is funding a scholarship worth € 6,000 for a student undertaking a dissertation on a pre-defined topic. Students can apply for the scholarship in the second term.
The programme is included in the Graduate Skills Conversion Programme 2011, which is funded by the National Development Plan (NDP) of the Irish Government. Fees for EU students are €2750. The MIS subject area also offers a Master of Science in Business Analytics (see pg. 30) which is a branch of applied mathematics that uses quantitative and computer techniques to optimise decision-making in business.

The Master in Management (part-time) programme offers you the chance to obtain a comprehensive business education without putting your career on hold. The programme is designed for those working full-time and who wish to undertake part-time graduate study. CEMS Master in International Management One year full-time What is the course about? CEMS is a global strategic alliance of leading business schools and multinational companies. UCD Smurfit School is the only Irish school within this community. Doctoral Studies Programme (PhD) What is the programme about? The Doctoral Studies Programme is one of the leading programmes of its type in Europe. It attracts students from all over the world and from a diverse range of disciplinary backgrounds. The programme is completed over four years in full time study but can also be taken in part-time mode with a minimum registration period of five years. Our ‘ivy league’ campus setting is home to around 60 doctoral researchers, making it one of the largest doctoral programmes in Europe. To us our doctoral students are less ‘students’ and more young professionals who are partaking in a research education of the highest quality. As a doctoral student, you are encouraged to develop your own research ideas and to choose your own preferred methodological approaches under the close guidance of a senior academic colleague. We offer an excellent taught programme in the first and second years of your PhD so as to properly equip you with the skills to undertake your own research. Guided by the Research and Professional Development Programme, which is specifically designed to aid you, you can plan and organise your coursework and research activities over the course of your studies. There are three module sets. Set 1 includes modules in research methods, philosophy of the social sciences and advanced disciplinary courses. Some modules are mandatory. Many of our recent graduates work in a variety of occupations including management, research, public policy and journalism. Others have gone on to pursue doctoral research studies. Entry requirements Candidates will normally possess, at a minimum, a second class honours degree in Business Studies or in a discipline closely related to the proposed area of research and study. Career Development Centre The way ahead: When you succeed, so do we Our graduates are in high demand. 56% of the class of 2010 were employed immediately on graduation and 85% within 6 months. Average salaries from the 2010 class were 4.6% above the national average and have increased on average by nearly 30% since. To help you towards potential graduate employment, we offer a dedicated career guidance service under the direction of a trained and experienced recruitment specialist. Our MSc Career Manager is available throughout the year for one-to-one consultations ,to help you identify career opportunities and provide support to you with your career planning. Employability skills workshops are held on campus regularly. These include workshops on writing CVs, graduate applications, interview skills and creative job searching. The Career Development Centre welcomes many employers and guest speakers throughout the academic year and you will be kept informed of opportunities to meet with visiting speakers from corporate organisations and recent graduates. We also hold career fairs on campus which are attended by leading companies such as KPMG, Kerry Group, First Derivatives, Kellogg EHQ, Microsoft, Paddy Power, Unilver, Google and many more. Click on the ‘Admissions’ button on the right hand side of the homepage, this will take you to the online application form. Documents can be scanned and uploaded to the online application system for the purpose of reviewing your application. Application decisions are normally made within two to three weeks of receiving a complete application. Please note: You may be required to send by mail hard copy, official or verified academic transcripts for each individual year of your undergraduate degree. Transcripts should state all subjects undertaken and the grades achieved as part of an undergraduate degree. If requested these documents should be mailed to the address below quoting your application number - this does not apply to UCD students When to apply Applications are reviewed and offers made all year round, however, we do advise all candidates to apply as early as possible as competition for places means that some programmes are filled before the final deadline.
