Hatch Pattern Basics in Digital Project Digital Project comes with a small list of basic hatch patterns that are generic to the engineering and architectural fields. The patterns are broken into four categories: ■ ■ ■ ■
Hatchings Dots Colors Images (Pictures)
An advanced user can add many new patterns by modifying the drawing standards XML's. This article will show you how to add the complete Architectural Standard Hatch library, for all of the following standards: ■ ■ ■ ■ ■
ANSI ASME and ASME_3D ISO and ISO_3D JIS and JIS_3D UDS
New Hatching Patterns Hatchings are vector-based patterns that behave the same as lines or points. They can have variable lineweights and linetypes. The pattern can have one or more line variations to the compose the overall pattern, and these patterns are based upon five criteria: ■ ■ ■ ■ ■
Number of lines Angle (Orientation) Offset from the start Pitch (or interval) LineType
This new Hatching library contains the following patterns: ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■
Hatchings are vector-based and have many modifiers.
New Picture Patterns "Picture" Patterns are raster images (Bitmaps) that are repeated like tessellations inside the its boundary box. Any bmp image will suffice for repetition, and in this Architectural Library, all standard patterns are included:
Instructions on Adding the Library Downloads: New Hatch Picture Patterns (HatchPatterns.zip) New XML Files (DraftingXMLs.zip) Instructions: 1.) Download the two compressed files to your desktop. Shut down Digital Project. 2.) Extract and save the files from HatchPatterns.zip in your Project Standards Icon Directory.
...\Project Standards\startup\Dictionaries\icons
3.) Go to your Drafting XML directory and archive the existing files:
...\Project Standards\resources\standard\drafting
Save the existing files somewhere on your hard drive before replacing them! 4.) Extract the files from the DraftingXMLs.zip and save them in the Project Standards Drafting Directory:
...\Project Standards\resources\standard\drafting
5.) Open Digital Project and create a new CATDrawing. Create a Hatch and you should have a substantially increased Hatch library, for all drawing standards.
AutoCAD Transferable Note: The new patterns may resemble portions of the AutoCAD hatch library, but they are not identical. If you export one of these hatches via DWG format, the lines will not match their AutoCAD counterpart. It is feasible to construct a transfer script to match up the Digital Project Hatch with the comparable AutoCAD Hatch with a simple CATVBA macro. This has already been accomplished with the Color Hatch Transfer, and
could be applied to Picture Patterns. The goal of this library is to keep all dress-up features for CATDrawings in the Digital Project Drawing Interface, rather than exporting these tasks to a different drafting software.
