The competition for a place on the school football team is very tough because the standard of competitors is high. You make the team but are used as a reserve in the first game. As you sit on the bench you silently hope that one of the players is injured so that you get a chance to play. You feel guilty about this thought and try to dismiss it but the hope is still there.
