 Next Level Football   FUNCTIONAL PERFORMANCE TESTS – RULES/PROCEDURES

40 Yard Dash Procedure: Each athlete will have the opportunity to run two 40-yard sprints. sprints. The electronic timer will also record 10-yard and 20-yard times. times. Athletes will remain remain in their sequence order throughout the test with their names names announced prior to each run. Rules: 1. All athletes will start each sprint from a 3-point stance having no part of the body touching the ground past the starting line. 2.

Each athlete must remain set for 2 seconds prior to each sprint.

Time will begin being recorded when the athlete lifts hand from the starting touch p ad.

Times are recorded to the nearest one-thousandth of a second.

20-Yard Pro Agility Shuttle Procedure: Each athlete will have the opportunity to run two 20-yard shuttles. Athletes will begin by straddling the middle line. line. The athlete will run left 5 yards yards and touch the line with one hand. Then, the athlete will turn and run 10 yards the opposite direction and touch that line with one hand. Finally, the athlete will will turn again again and run 5 yards back through the the middle line. The second trial will be run in the opposite direction as the first (begin by moving right). Rules: stance. 1. All participants will start from a 3-point stance. 2.

The athlete must touch each line with his hand.

Time will begin on the athlete’s first movement.

4.

If the athlete slips or falls, he will be able to repeat the test without penalty 1 time.

60-Yard Shuttle Procedure: Each athlete will have the opportunity to run two 60-yard shuttles. Athletes will begin in a 3-point stance on the start line. The athlete will run 5 yards, touch the line with one hand and return to the start line. Then the athlete will turn and run 10 yards, yards, touch the line with one hand and return to the start line. Finally, the athlete will turn turn again and run 15 yards, touch the line with one hand and run back through the start line. Rules: 1. All participants will start from a 3-point stance. stance. 2.

3-Cone Drill Procedure: Each athlete will have the opportunity to run two 3-cone drills. The cones are placed 5 yards apart in an inverted “L” configuration. The athlete will start in a 3-point stance stance behind the start line (cone A). The athlete will sprint forward forward 5 yards to cone B, touch the line with one hand, and return to cone A. The athlete will touch touch the line with one hand, then immediately immediately turn and sprint sprint forward around the outside of cone B toward cone C. Broad Jump Procedure: Each athlete will have the the opportunity to perform two jumps for maximum maximum distance. The athlete will begin with toes behind the start line. The athlete must jump off of both feet simultaneously simultaneously and “stick” the landing. Distance will be recorded from the athlete’s athlete’s heel closest to the start start line. The athlete’s best trial of the two will be recorded. Rules: 1. Athlete must jump off both feet simultaneously and “stick” the landing. 2.

Athlete is not allowed to fall forward/backward or reach down with hand.

If the athlete falls or puts his hand down for balance, he will be able to repeat the test without penalty.

Distance will be recorded to the the nearest half-inch. The athlete’s best trial trial of the two will be recorded.

Maximum Repetition Bench Press Procedure: The athlete will have one opportunity to achieve a maximum number of repetitions. Each athlete will be allowed to warm-up using 135 lbs. or 185 lbs. Each athlete will then perform as as many repetitions as possible using the following weights: 225 lbs. • • 185 lbs. 155 lbs. • Rules: 1. Athlete will receive help taking bar on and off the rack. 2.

Buttocks must remain remain on the bench. Repetitions completed completed with buttocks off the bench will not count.

3.

Each repetition will count only if the athlete touches the bar to his chest and then extends his arms/elbows completely.

4.

Excessive bouncing of the bar off the chest will not be allowed.

Physical Measurements

Weight: Will be measured in pounds, to the nearest one-tenth of a pound. Height: Will be measured in feet and inches, to the nearest 1/4 of an inch. Wing Span: Will be measured in inches, to the nearest 1/4 of an inch, from tip of longest finger on one hand to tip of longest finger on the other hand. Hand Span: Will be measured in inches, to the nearest 1/4 of an inch, from tip of thumb to tip of  5th finger.
