WARNING SUMMARY Air Bank is heavy (approx. 88 pounds) and requires a 2-person lift using the two spring-loaded lifting handles to prevent personnel injury. Do not use transfer case handle to lift the Air Bank. Only FN303 Projectiles are approved for use with the FN303 Launcher. Serious personnel injury or launcher damage may result from use of Non-FN303 Projectiles. Handle Air Bank with extreme care during ground transport. Avoid dropping or sudden impact to prevent cylinders from rupturing and causing serious injury. Air reservoirs and Air Bank cylinders will be shipped depressurized to less than 20 psi absolute (IAW DOT 49 CFR 173.115) when transported by air. A sudden change in altitude may cause pressurized Air Bank cylinders to burst. Operators are required to wear safety eyewear and single hearing protection during air reservoir filling procedures. DO NOT drop, dent, or puncture the FN303 Air Reservoir. Mishandling may result in death, injury, or malfunction. Do not alter or modify the FN303 Air Reservoir. Do not expose filled air reservoirs to any heat source, flame, or condition where the temperature may exceed 130°F (54°C). Always store air reservoirs in a cool, dry area. Air reservoirs exposed to fire or heat in excess of 350°F (176°C) must be condemned. DO NOT exceed maximum allowed pressure of 3000 psi in the FN303 Air Reservoir. Do not put fingers or hands between lower and upper stock assemblies when assembling launcher. Only FN303 Air Reservoirs filled with scuba breathable air are permitted to be used with the FN303 Launcher. Serious personnel injury or launcher damage may result from the use of Non-FN303 air reservoirs. A filled or partially filled air reservoir contains high pressure air. Always handle the air reservoir with care. Do not drop, dent, or puncture the air reservoir. Mishandling may result in malfunction or serious injury. Do not use cracked, damaged, or dirty projectiles. Do not insert fingers into magazine well. Serious injury will occur since the bolt impacts any obstruction placed in the magazine well if the launcher is fired. Always keep loaded launcher pointed downrange. If FN303 Launcher is dropped or struck with the safety lever in the FIRE position, it could discharge. Never aim launcher towards the neck or head of the target. Engaging the target at these regions of the body may result in permanent injury and/or death to the target. When in close range (within 5 meters) of the target, always aim lower than the center of mass, preferably toward the thighs. Never look down the launcher barrel from the muzzle end, even if the launcher appears to be clear. DO NOT touch or adjust regulator or regulator lock nut. Projectiles could be launched at lethal velocity due to rapid air loss. Do not attempt to remove magazine spring housing. Magazine spring is under tension and can cause serious injury if securing tabs are loosened or broken off.

WARNING SUMMARY - Continued When replacing the high pressure FN303 air supply hose, only another high pressure FN303 air supply hose is allowed to be used on the FN303 Launcher. Non-FN303 air supply hoses with the same threading and coupler are not tested and may not safely handle the 3000 psi pressure from the air reservoir. Injury and/or launcher failure may result. Safety eyewear must be worn to prevent eye injury in the event that the valve assembly may still contain some air pressure. When the valve assembly, presumably under pressure, is removed from the lower stock assembly, the ON/OFF valve may expel towards the face and cause injury. Wear eye protection when removing and installing spring-loaded components. Failure to do so could cause serious eye injury. Operators must wear safety eyewear and single hearing protection when purging the Air Bank to prevent injury and hearing loss. Always carefully handle and transport scuba tank(s) IAW local SOP to prevent personnel injury.

HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL GENERAL This manual contains all descriptive, operational, troubleshooting and maintenance information required to operate and maintain the Firing Device, Non Lethal: FN303 Launcher and Air Bank, Portable. CONTENT OF MANUAL This manual is divided into 7 chapters: Chapter 1, General Information, Equipment Description, and Theory of Operation Chapter 2, Operator Instructions Chapter 3, Operator Troubleshooting Procedures Chapter 4, Field Troubleshooting Procedures Chapter 5, Operator Maintenance Instructions Chapter 6, Field Maintenance Instructions Chapter 7, Supporting Information HOW TO ACCESS INFORMATION QUICKLY The chapters are divided into work packages (WP). Each WP is assigned a six digit sequence number. The sequence numbers run consecutively throughout the manual. The first four digits of the WP sequence number are based on the location of the WP (e.g., 0005 00 is the fifth WP). The last two digits are reserved for WPs added after initial publication (e.g., 0005 01 is a WP added between WP 0005 00 and 0006 00). OPERATOR AND FIELD MAINTENANCE FN303 LAUNCHER (NSN 1095-01-526-7860) PORTABLE AIR BANK (NSN 1090-01-533-1622) GENERAL INFORMATION

SCOPE This manual contains all descriptive, operational and maintenance information for FN303 Launcher and Portable Air Bank. Type of Manual: Operator and Field Maintenance. Equipment Name: Firing Device, Non Lethal: FN303 Launcher and Air Bank, Portable:. Purpose of Equipment: The FN303 Launcher will be used as a nonlethal system in counter-personnel and area denial applications across the range of military operations from garrison to combat operations in peace and war. Service members will use the FN303 Launcher in situations, roles and missions where the use of lethal force is unacceptable at onset, but may quickly escalate due to volatility of the situation or when the need for unique and specific munition (e.g., riot control agents (RCAs) or marking projectiles) are needed. The system will be available to mission specific organizations through supply channels as a Common Table of Allowances (CTA) item. MAINTENANCE FORMS, RECORDS, AND REPORTS Department of the Army forms and procedures used for equipment maintenance will be those prescribed by (as applicable) DA PAM 750-8, The Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS) Users Manual, or AR 700-138, Army Logistics Readiness and Sustainability. Accidents involving injury to personnel or damage to material will be reported on DA Form 285 (U.S. Army Accident Report) in accordance with AR 385-10, The Army Safety Program. Explosives and ammunition malfunctions will be reported in accordance with AR 75-1, Malfunctions Involving Ammunition and Explosives. REPORTING EQUIPMENT IMPROVEMENT RECOMMENDATIONS (EIR) If your FN303 Launcher or Portable Air Bank needs improvement, let us know. Send us an EIR. You, the user, are the only one who can tell us what you don’t like about your equipment. Let us know why you don’t like the design or performance. If you have Internet access, the easiest and fastest way to report problems or suggestions is to go to https://aeps.ria.army.mil/ aepspublic.cfm (scroll down and choose the “Submit Quality Deficiency Report” bar). The Internet form lets you choose to submit an Equipment Improvement Recommendation (EIR), a Product Quality Deficiency Report (PQDR) or a Warranty Claim Action (WCA). We will send you a reply. CORROSION PREVENTION AND CONTROL (CPC) Corrosion Prevention and Control (CPC) of Army materiel is a continuing concern. It is important that any corrosion problems with this item be reported so that the problem can be corrected and improvements can be made to prevent the problem in future items. Corrosion specifically occurs with metals. It is an electrochemical process that causes the degradation of metals. It is commonly caused by exposure to moisture, acids, bases, or salts. An example is the rusting of iron. Corrosion damage in metals can be seen, depending on the metal, as tarnishing, pitting, fogging, surface residue, and/or cracking.

Plastics, composites, and rubbers can also degrade. Degradation is caused by thermal (heat), oxidation (oxygen), solvation (solvents), or photolytic (light, typically UV) processes. The most common exposures are excessive heat or light. Damage from these processes will appear as cracking, softening, swelling, and/or breaking. SF 368 (Product Quality Deficiency Report) should be submitted to the address specified in DA PAM 750-8, The Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS) Users Manual. DESTRUCTION OF ARMY MATERIEL TO PREVENT ENEMY USE If the FN303 Launcher is so badly damaged that it cannot be used either by repair or cannibalization, remove air reservoir from launcher and destroy launcher by cutting or crushing. PREPARATION FOR STORAGE OR SHIPMENT When transported by air, FN303 Air Reservoirs and the Portable Air Bank must be shipped depressurized to less than 20 psi absolute (IAW DOT 49 CFR 173.115). A sudden change in altitude may cause pressurized air bank tanks to burst open. See WP 0036 00, Preparation for Long Term Storage or Shipment of Portable Air Bank, for purging instructions. SAFETY, CARE, AND HANDLING There are no hazardous materials associated with the FN303 Launcher. Operators should never depend on the safety mechanism to justify careless or unsafe handling of the FN303 Launcher. Do not store FN303 Air Reservoirs or the Portable Air Bank outdoors. Pressurized containers must be kept away from direct sunlight and any heat sources where temperature may exceed 130°F (54°C). The Portable Air Bank must receive hydrostatic testing by DOT certified personnel every three years from the date of air cylinder manufacture or three years from date of previous test. Refer to WP 0037 00, Air Bank Hydrostatic Testing Information.

OPERATOR AND FIELD MAINTENANCE FN303 LAUNCHER (NSN 1095-01-526-7860) PORTABLE AIR BANK (NSN 1090-01-533-1622) EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION AND DATA EQUIPMENT CHARACTERISTICS, CAPABILITIES, AND FEATURES The FN303 Launcher is a semi-automatic, compressed air launcher. The system is constructed of lightweight polymer, contains a magazine that holds 15 projectiles, and can deliver up to 60 semi-automatic shots from the 3000 psi air reservoir. The FN303 Projectile is pneumatically expelled with a muzzle velocity of 280-300 feet per second (85.3-91.4 meters per sec) from the FN303 Launcher to neutralize aggressors at an effective distance up to 100 meters (approx 328 feet). Upon impact with the target, the FN303 Projectile breaks apart and delivers a blunt impact. LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR COMPONENTS - FN303 LAUNCHER

COMPONENT

DESCRIPTION

Front Sight

The front sight, located on top of the upper stock assembly, flips up and is used with the rear sight for aiming. A sight adjustment tool is used to vertically adjust the sight.

Stock Release Button

The stock release button, located on the left side of the lower stock assembly, allows the lower stock assembly to slide apart from the upper stock assembly.

Rear Sight

The rear sight, located on top of the upper stock assembly, flips up and lines up with the front sight. It is not adjustable.

Upper Stock Assembly

The upper stock assembly is made of polymer and secures the lower stock assembly for a complete launcher.

Pistol Grip

The pistol grip, located on the upper stock assembly, is used to hold the rear of the launcher.

Magazine

The magazine is round, made of polymer, and has a transparent cover which allows the user to see how many shots remain. The magazine holds 15 projectiles which can be loaded with the speed loader or by hand.

Magazine Release Button

The magazine release button, located in front of the magazine, releases the magazine from the launcher.

Lower Stock Assembly

The lower stock assembly is made of polymer and contains all the mechanical components of the launcher. It houses the valve assembly, trigger, safety lever, air reservoir, and locks in the magazine.

Foregrip

The foregrip, located at the lower front of the lower stock assembly, is used to hold the front of the launcher.

Barrel

The barrel is smooth bore, made of aluminum, 10 inches long, and permanently pressed into the receiver assembly.

DESCRIPTION

Air Supply Hose

The air supply hose is a special high-pressure hose designed specifically for the FN303 Launcher. The hose is made of braided nickel-plated brass. It is the passageway for air during operation and refilling. The air supply hose delivers air from the air reservoir to the valve assembly.

Air Supply Hose Quick Connect

The air supply hose quick connect, located on the end of the air hose, is a knurled springloaded connector used to attach the air supply hose to the air reservoir.

Air Reservoir Nipple

The air reservoir nipple is located on the air reservoir. The air reservoir nipple gets inserted into the quick connect of the air supply hose.

Air Reservoir Gauge

The air reservoir gauge shows the current pressure in the air reservoir and is permanently secured to the air reservoir. The air reservoir should be filled to and not exceed 3000 PSI for deployment and operation.

Air Reservoir

The aluminum air reservoir supplies the air which expels the projectiles. It locks into the right side of the lower stock assembly with a latch and connects to the launcher’s air supply hose. The launcher requires an air reservoir filled with breathable scuba air. It is refillable and replaceable.

Air Reservoir Release Latch

The air reservoir release latch is used to remove and replace the air reservoir.

DESCRIPTION

1/4 Turn Air Valve

The 1/4 turn air valve permits and restricts the flow of air from the air reservoir to the launcher’s valve assembly. When Open, the valve assembly is pressurized and the launcher will cycle when the trigger is pulled. When Closed, the valve assembly remains pressurized and should still be considered armed until clearing procedures take place to depressurize the valve assembly.

Safety Lever

The safety lever physically blocks and prevents movement of launcher’s trigger. The safety internally locks and secures the sear. The safety lever cannot be placed in SAFE position unless the trigger is in the forward position. The launcher cannot be fired unless the safety lever is in FIRE position.

Trigger

The trigger controls the firing of the launcher. When the valve assembly is pressurized, the trigger will move to the forward position. When the valve assembly is cleared and depressurized, the trigger can move freely until the safety lever is in SAFE position.

FN303 PROJECTILES

WARNING Only FN303 Projectiles are approved for use with the FN303 Launcher. Serious personnel injury or launcher damage may result from the use of Non-FN303 projectiles. FN303 Projectiles are fin-stabilized and contain a dense powdered bismuth in the front payload. The caliber is .68 and the weight is 8.5 grams. The plastic housing is specifically designed to break upon impact and minimize skin penetration. All types of FN303 Projectiles are intended to deliver a blunt impact to the target. The rear payload contains either a non-marking clear glycol, a pink non-permanent marking paint, or a yellow permanent marking paint.

LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR COMPONENTS - PORTABLE AIR BANK The Portable Air Bank is used to refill FN303 Air Reservoirs. The capacity is 4300 psi of breathable scuba air. It can refill approximately 15 to 20 reservoirs when it is fully charged. When the pressure drops to 3000 psi, the air bank should only be refilled with breathable scuba air using a compressor. The air bank is contained in a hard plastic transfer case and can be moved with the built-in wheels and the handle, or it can be lifted by two people using the spring-loaded lifting handles.

DESCRIPTION

Air Bank Cylinders

There are two fiberglass-wrapped air bank cylinders inside the Air Bank transfer case. The cylinders hold the breathable scuba air with a pressure of up to 4350 psi. They are DOT E 9634 and require hydrostatic testing every three years by an authorized DOT cylinder retester.

HP Transfer Hose

The HP transfer hose is approximately 12 inches long. The HP transfer hose has a knurled quick connect that fits over the FN303 air reservoir filling nipples labeled “FILL”.

Quick Connect

The knurled quick connect is located at the end of the HP transfer hose and ensures a secure connection to each FN303 air reservoir “FILL” nipple.

Fill Control Valve Stick

The fill control valve controls the flow of pressure from the regulator into the FN303 air reservoir. When the HP transfer hose quick connect is secured to the “FILL” nipple of an air reservoir, the user pulls back on the valve to fill the air reservoir and equalize it to the pressure indicated on the Fill Pressure Gauge. By releasing the valve, the air that remains in the HP transfer hose is automatically purged. When the stop valve is closed, the regulator is purged by pulling the fill control valve stick.

Fill Pressure Gauge

The fill pressure gauge indicates how much pressure is in the regulator and is labeled “Fill Pressure”. When the air bank is in storage, the regulator should be purged, and the fill pressure gauge should indicate 0 psi. When the filling of air reservoirs is required, the stop valve should be opened, and the pressure regulator knob should be turned until the fill pressure gauge indicates 3000 psi. As air reservoirs are filled, the fill pressure will drop, and the pressure regulator knob should be adjusted until the fill pressure gauge indicates 3000 psi.

Pressure Regulator Knob

The pressure regulator knob controls the amount of air pressure that is transferred from the 4350 psi tanks into the 3000 psi regulator. It is labeled “Control HP / OUT”. Turning the knob counter-clockwise decreases the pressure in the regulator. Turning the knob clockwise increases the pressure in the regulator. The knob should be slowly turned until the Fill Pressure Gauge indicates that the regulator is at 3000 psi.

Safety Fixture Nipple

The safety fixture nipple holds and stores the knurled quick connect of the HP transfer hose when the filling of air reservoirs is not taking place. It prevents the hose from damaging the fiberglass wrapped tanks.

Stop Valve

The red handled stop valve has two marked positions, CLOSED and OPEN. The stop valve controls the flow of air pressure into the air bank regulator. The stop valve should be in the CLOSED position except during air reservoir filling procedures.

Air Bank Pressure Gauge

The air bank pressure gauge indicates the current pressure level of the air bank tanks. The gauge is labeled “Air Bank Pressure” and has a marking indicating the air bank maximum air pressure of 4350 psi / 300 bar. When the stop valve is opened to permit the flow of air pressure into the regulator, the air bank pressure gauge will indicate a decrease in pressure.

Inlet Valve

The fill hose connection on the Reciprocating Compressor is connected to the Inlet Valve. Once the compressor is started, the inlet valve must be opened to fill the Air Bank. Once the Air Bank is filled, the inlet valve must be closed before disconnecting the air compressor. The inlet valve is also the means of slowly purging the Air Bank when required.

Spring-loaded Lifting Handles

Air Bank is heavy (approx. 88 pounds) and requires a 2-person lift using the two spring loaded lifting handles to prevent personnel injury. Two spring-loaded lifting handles on the Air Bank transfer case allow it to be safely lifted by two persons. Do not lift Air Bank by the transfer case handle. Wheels

The wheels on the transfer case are used to move the Air Bank over short distances.

Transfer Case Handle

The transfer case handle is used to steer the Air Bank on its wheels.

Red Safety Button

The red safety button on the back of the transfer case secures the handle in the up or down position.

Locks

OPERATOR AND FIELD MAINTENANCE FN303 LAUNCHER (NSN 1095-01-526-7860) THEORY OF OPERATION GENERAL The 1/4-turn air valve is placed in the “ON” position. Air travels from the 3000 psi reservoir, through the 800 psi regulator and ON/OFF assembly, thereby pressurizing the valve assembly to 800 psi. This pressure is sealed with the bolt, and the bolt is secured by the sear. After one-third of the overall trigger travel, the ON/OFF plunger is moved to the “OFF” position. Air flow to the valve assembly is stopped. After two-thirds of overall trigger travel, the sear releases the bolt. Once the bolt is released, air pressure forces the bolt forward and compresses the bolt spring. The bolt travels forward, pushing the projectile into the bore. The bolt then continues forward into the barrel and forms a seal. Air pressure of 800 psi enters the barrel and launches the projectile down range. The bolt spring drives the bolt rearward cycling the launcher.

The high pressure HP transfer hose is used to transfer air from the air bank cylinders to the air reservoirs used on the FN303 Launcher. The safety fixture nipple holds and stores the knurled quick connect of the HP transfer hose when the filling of air reservoirs is not taking place. It prevents the hose from damaging the fiberglass wrapped tanks.

GENERAL FN303 air reservoirs may be filled using the Portable Air Bank or a SCUBA tank and Fill Station Adapter. The preferred method is to use the Portable Air Bank, if available. The alternate method is to use a filled scuba tank and the Fill Station Adapter. This work package contains both filling procedures. FILL FN303 AIR RESERVOIR WITH AIR BANK

WARNING Handle Air Bank with care during ground transport. Avoid dropping or sudden impact to prevent cylinders from rupturing and causing serious injury. Air Bank is heavy (approx. 88 pounds) and requires a 2-person lift using the two spring-loaded lifting handles to prevent personnel injury. Do not use transfer case handle to lift the Air Bank. Operators are required to wear safety eyewear and hearing protection during air reservoir filling procedures. DO NOT drop, dent, or puncture the FN303 Air Reservoir. Mishandling may result in death, injury, or malfunction. Do not alter or modify the FN303 Air Reservoir. Do not expose filled air reservoirs to any heat source, flame, or condition where the temperature may exceed 130°F (54°C). Always store air reservoirs in a cool, dry area. Air reservoirs exposed to fire or heat in excess of 350°F (176°C) must be condemned. 1.

Check all FN303 Air Reservoirs to be filled for corrosion, cracks, damage, dents, etc. Check air reservoir pressure gauge for cracks or damage. Check air reservoir 1/4-turn air valve for damage. If any damage is found, do not use the air reservoir. Return to field maintenance.

Check manufacture date stamped on air reservoir. Date must be within 15 years of current date. If date exceeds 15 years, return air reservoir to Field Maintenance.

Using two people, lift Air Bank transfer case with spring-loaded lifting handles and place it on a flat surface with the handle down.

Read and observe warning label on outside of Air Bank.

Turn the six dog-ear style locks securing the transfer case and lift the lid.

Check to ensure AIR BANK PRESSURE gauge reads between 3000 psi and 4350 psi. If Air Bank pressure is below 3000 psi, refill Air Bank with breathable scuba air using a compressor before proceeding to next step.

7.

Ensure FILL CONTROL VALVE stick is in the CLOSED position (vertical position). This is the default position and should stay in place.

8.

Ensure HP transfer quick connect is secured to safety fixture nipple.

9.

Slowly move red-handled STOP VALVE from CLOSED to OPEN position.

CAUTION DO NOT exceed 3000 psi (maximum allowed pressure) in the Air Bank regulator. Audible noise will be heard if pressure exceeds 3000 psi. 10. Set the FILL PRESSURE gauge to 3000 psi using the PRESSURE REGULATOR knob until no audible sound is heard. Increase pressure by turning knob clockwise. Decrease pressure by turning knob counter-clockwise. 11. Pull back knurled quick connect on end of HP transfer hose and disconnect from safety fixture nipple.

12. Check to ensure 1/4-turn air valve on FN303 Air Reservoir is in “OFF” position. 13. Holding FN303 Air Reservoir in one hand, pull back knurled quick connect on the end of the HP transfer hose and place on “FILL” nipple of air reservoir. Pull HP transfer hose to ensure proper connection.

CAUTION During the air transfer process, the FILL CONTROL VALVE must be opened and closed SLOWLY. DO NOT jerk the FILL CONTROL VALVE stick. Unnecessary stress on the air reservoir and premature wear of the seals will occur.

NOTE FILL PRESSURE gauge should read no more than 3000 psi prior to air reservoir filling procedure. During the filling procedure, it is normal for the air reservoir to suddenly feel warm to the hand. 14. Holding FN303 Air Reservoir in one hand, use other hand to open FILL CONTROL VALVE by SLOWLY tilting FILL CONTROL VALVE stick until pressure is equalized between the FILL PRESSURE gauge and the air reservoir pressure gauge.

15. Close FILL CONTROL VALVE by SLOWLY moving FILL CONTROL VALVE stick to the vertical position. An audible noise will be heard as the compressed air in the HP transfer hose purges. 16. Pull back knurled quick connect and disconnect HP transfer hose from “FILL” nipple on FN303 Air Reservoir. The air reservoir is now filled. Set filled reservoir aside.

17. Pull back knurled quick connect on HP transfer hose and place it back on safety fixture nipple. 18. Check FILL PRESSURE gauge. If necessary, use PRESSURE REGULATOR knob to adjust pressure to 3000 psi.

19. Check AIR BANK PRESSURE gauge. If Air Bank pressure has depleted to 3000 psi, move red-handled STOP VALVE to CLOSED position and refill Air Bank with breathable scuba air using a compressor. 20. Repeat steps 10 thru 19 for remaining air reservoirs required for the mission. 21. Move red-handled STOP VALVE to CLOSED position.

22. To purge regulator assembly, SLOWLY move FILL CONTROL VALVE stick until FILL PRESSURE gauge reads 0 psi (purging sound will be audible).

23. Close the transfer case and turn and lock the six dog-ear style locks.

26. Transport Air Bank to desired location for storage. If Air Bank will be shipped by air, go to WP 0036 00, Preparation For Long Term Storage Or Shipment Of Air Bank.

FILL FN303 AIR RESERVOIR USING FILL STATION ADAPTER AND SCUBA TANK

WARNING Always carefully handle and transport scuba tank(s) IAW local SOP to prevent personnel injury. Operators are required to wear safety eyewear and single hearing protection during air reservoir filling procedures. DO NOT drop, dent, or puncture the FN303 Air Reservoir. Mishandling the air reservoir may result in death, injury, or malfunction. DO NOT exceed maximum allowed pressure of 3000 psi in the FN303 Air Reservoir. Do not alter or modify the FN303 Air Reservoir. Do not expose filled air reservoirs to any heat source, flame, or condition where the temperature may exceed 130°F (54°C). Always store air reservoirs in a cool, dry area. Air reservoirs exposed to fire or heat in excess of 350°F (176°C) must be condemned. 1.

Holding fill station adapter with blue pressure relief button facing up, place yoke over scuba valve and hand tighten fill station adapter knob until hand tight. Do not let the yoke lock against the scuba valve knob.

Ensure 1/4-turn air valve on FN303 Air Reservoir is in “OFF” position.

Pull back knurled quick connect on the fill station adapter hose and push quick connect over “FILL” nipple on FN303 Air Reservoir. Pull fill station adapter hose to ensure it is fully seated.

WARNING DO NOT exceed maximum allowed pressure of 3000 psi in the FN303 Air Reservoir. 4.

Holding air reservoir in one hand, use other hand to slowly turn control knob on scuba valve counter-clockwise and carefully monitor the fill station adapter pressure gauge to ensure pressure raises at a very slow rate of no more than 200 psi per second. Fill air reservoir until air reservoir pressure gauge reaches maximum pressure of 3000 psi, then close control knob on scuba valve by turning clockwise. It is normal for the air reservoir to suddenly feel warm in the hand.

5.

Check and observe fill station adapter pressure gauge. a.

If pressure gauge reads greater than 2000 psi, go to step 6.

b.

If pressure gauge reads less than 2000 psi, press blue pressure relief button to purge all remaining air pressure from fill station adapter hose. Replace scuba tank with filled scuba tank. Repeat steps 2 thru 7.

Press blue pressure relief button on fill station adapter to purge all remaining air pressure from the fill station adapter hose.

CAUTION ONLY factory authorized lubricating oil is permitted in the FN303 Launcher. Do not use gun lubricants such as CLP, LSA, LAW or other chemical cleaners. Launcher damage or malfunction will occur. Do not excessively oil the launcher. Excess oil may cause a malfunction.

NOTE The FN303 Launcher shall be lubricated before each operation. 5.

Holding air supply hose quick connect vertically, place 3 drops of lubricating oil into the air supply hose.

CAUTION DO NOT connect the air supply hose to the “FILL” nipple on the air reservoir. Although no injury or damage can occur from the system, the user may mistakenly release all pressure from the air reservoir upon opening the 1/4-turn valve. This may put the user in an unexpected situation, requiring an immediate air reservoir change during a mission. 6.

Using thumb and index finger, pull back knurled quick connect on the end of the air supply hose, insert onto the air reservoir nipple labeled “GUN”, and push quick connect over the nipple. Pull air supply hose to ensure it is fully seated.

LOAD MAGAZINE The magazine of the FN303 Launcher can be loaded using the provided speed loader or by hand. The preferred method is to use the speed loader. Both methods are provided below.

WARNING Only FN303 projectiles are approved for use in the FN303 Launcher. Serious personnel injury or launcher damage may result from the use of Non-FN303 projectiles. Do not use cracked, damaged, or dirty projectiles.

CAUTION A full storage tube of projectiles contains 15 rounds. Load each magazine completely with all 15 projectiles. Do not leave empty rotor pockets between projectiles. Empty rotor pockets will increase the chance of projectile breakage in the magazine. If a projectile ruptures or misfires in the magazine, the magazine must be properly cleaned prior to further use to avoid malfunction. The projectiles must be handled with care. Sharp blows or high forces may cause ruptures and the projectiles will become unusable. Discard damaged projectiles IAW local Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). 1.

Load Magazine Using Speed Loader. a.

Remove storage tube of projectiles from barrier bag.

b.

Visually inspect the storage tube to ensure that the flat end of each projectile is toward the bottom of the storage tube and the projectile dome (rounded end) is toward the cap.

When the magazine is fully loaded, the projectile in the magazine projectile opening should stay in place. However, to ensure the projectile does not fall out or get damaged, unsnap speed loader assembly from magazine, cover projectile opening with fingers or hand and place cover clip back on magazine.

Unscrew speed loader from empty storage tube. Place speed loader in a safe place.

Place foam support and cap back on empty storage tube and retain for storage of any unused projectiles.

With magazine held upright in the left hand and projectile opening at top, insert dome (rounded end) of projectile into projectile opening. Cover the other side of the projectile opening with fingers or hand so that projectile does not fall out or get damaged when inserted.

WARNING Always keep loaded launcher pointed downrange.

NOTE The launcher must be sighted at 30 meters (32.8 yd) to maintain proper “ZERO” so aiming is more precise. The gunner must maintain “ZERO” on the launcher at all times. Gunner should confirm the “ZERO” as often as possible. When maintenance is performed on the launcher, changes in atmospheric conditions, humidity, and temperature, and/or change in projectile lot numbers occur. “RE-ZERO” as soon as possible. The gunner must “ZERO” the launcher while wearing the uniform most likely to be worn when firing the launcher. The “ZERO” will change depending on the uniform worn due to placement of the launcher in the shoulder pocket. The front sight post has four “CLICK” positions for each 360 degrees of rotation. Each “CLICK” position can be felt by the finger tips during a turn and can be visibly confirmed since the sight post shape is square. Rotation of one click (90 degrees or 1/4 turn) moves the Mean Point of Impact (MPI) of the shot group approximately 1/2-inch (1.3 cm) to 5/8-inch (1.6 cm) along the vertical axis. There is no horizontal sight adjustment. 1.

NOTE When the safety lever is in the SAFE position, the finger can not be placed on the trigger and the trigger is unable to be moved rearward. When the safety lever is on the FIRE position, the finger can be placed on the trigger and the launcher is ready to fire.

Viewing through rear peephole sight, line up the white dot on the front sight post with a downrange target of a given distance of 30 meters.

Fire three (3) projectiles at downrange target. Place safety lever in SAFE position. Observe the points of impact on the target and compare to position of the sights.

7.

To adjust the elevation upward, insert sight adjustment tool on front sight post and turn clockwise in 1/4 turn increments. To adjust the elevation downward, insert sight adjustment tool on front sight post and turn counter-clockwise in 1/4 turn increments. Each 1/4 turn increment adjusts the mean point of impact approximately 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) to 5/8 inch (1.6 cm) along the vertical axis.

8.

Repeat steps 4 thru 7 until mean point of impact coincides with the mean point of aim through the sights.

9.

Turn 1/4-turn air valve to the “OFF” position.

10. Place safety lever in SAFE position once zeroing is complete.

PREPARE TO ENGAGE TARGET

WARNING Always keep loaded launcher pointed downrange. Never aim the launcher towards the neck or head of the target. Engaging the target at these regions of the body may result in permanent injury and/or death to the target. When in close range (within 5 meters) of the target, always aim lower than the center of mass, preferably toward the thighs. 1.

Flip up front and rear weapon sights.

Open 1/4-turn air valve to the “ON” position.

MISFIRE PROCEDURES In the event of an unanticipated interruption in the firing of the launcher, the following actions should be performed immediately.

WARNING Always keep loaded launcher pointed downrange. 1.

Visually inspect air reservoir pressure gauge to ensure the needle is in the green range.

2.

If air reservoir 1/4 turn valve is in “OFF” position (closed), then move the valve to the “ON” (open) position to pressurize the valve assembly.

3.

Attempt to fire the launcher.

4.

If launcher still does not fire, use hand to tap the base of the magazine.

5.

Re-attempt to fire the launcher.

6.

If launcher still does not fire, place safety lever in SAFE position and remove the magazine. a.

Visually confirm projectile(s) are not broken and are loaded correctly in the magazine. If projectiles are broken in the magazine, set that magazine aside and load a new magazine into launcher.

b.

Visually determine if rotor pocket assembly has rotated the next projectile into the magazine opening. If rotor pocket assembly is stuck/binded, shake magazine from side to side. If rotor pocket assembly does not rotate, set that magazine aside and load a new magazine into launcher.

7.

Place safety lever in FIRE position.

8.

Attempt to fire the launcher again.

CLEAR LAUNCHER

Depressurize the valve assembly by continually pulling and releasing the trigger until there is no air pressure. When the valve assembly is depressurized, the trigger will move freely.

NOTE If the air reservoir’s 1/4-turn air valve is closed and the valve assembly has been cleared, the trigger will move freely. If trigger is back all the way, it may be necessary to move the trigger forward in order to place the safety lever in the SAFE position. 6.

Move trigger to forward-most position and return safety lever to SAFE position.

WARNING Never look down the launcher barrel from the muzzle end, even if the launcher appears to be clear. 7.

Visually inspect magazine well and barrel to ensure they are empty and clear of obstructions.

Obtain storage tube. Remove storage tube cap and foam support and set aside.

CAUTION When placing projectiles into storage tube, ensure internal ribs of tube and fins of projectile do not get jammed together. 6.

Hold storage tube at a 45 degree angle. Carefully insert undamaged projectiles back into storage tube with the flat end of each projectile toward the bottom of the storage tube and the projectile dome (rounded end) up.

7.

If storage tube contains less than 15 rounds, insert soft packing material (e.g., foam support, cotton, paper, etc.) in storage tube to protect projectiles from damage.

8.

Place storage tube cap with foam support back on storage tube.

9.

Store storage tube with projectiles IAW local SOP.

GENERAL This work package contains instructions to operate the FN303 Launcher and Portable Air Bank under unusual conditions. UNUSUAL ENVIROMENT/WEATHER Operation in Desert Climates In extreme hot temperatures, the pressure inside the FN303 Air Reservoir and the Portable Air Bank cylinders will rise. The FN303 Air Reservoir has a burst disk that will safely release pressure if the air reservoir reaches 5000 psi. If this happens, dispose of the air reservoir IAW local SOP. The Portable Air Bank has a safety check valve that will automatically release pressure if the Air Bank pressure gauge exceeds 4350 psi or the fill pressure gauge exceeds 3050 psi. In desert climates, the FN303 Launcher and Portable Air Bank are subject to damage from windblown sand and dust. Portable Air Bank cylinders and all controls/indicators will require more frequent cleaning. Do not leave the FN303 uncovered when not in use. Desert climate conditions will require more frequent launcher cleaning (refer to WP 0019 00) and magazine cleaning (refer to WP 0020 00). Desert climates can also cause the various O-rings inside the FN303 Launcher to become dry and brittle. This may require more frequent lubrication and/or O-ring replacement. Refer to applicable maintenance work package. When not in use, the Portable Air Bank should always be laid down on a flat surface with the lid closed and dog-ear style locks in the locked position. Operation in Arctic Climates In extreme cold temperatures, the FN303 Launcher and Portable Air Bank pressure lines may freeze. Arctic climates can cause the various O-rings inside the FN303 Launcher to become dry and brittle. This may require more frequent lubrication and/or O-ring replacement. Refer to applicable maintenance work package. Operation in Tropical Climates Tropical climates cause condensation to form on the FN303 Launcher and Portable Air Bank. GENERAL This work package contains instructions to clean the FN303 Launcher barrel and components. Operators are only authorized to assemble and/or disassemble the launcher and to replace the air reservoir. CLEAN FN303 LAUNCHER BARREL

CAUTION Do not use any gun cleaning solvents to clean the launcher. They will chemically degrade the pneumatic system and will cause the launcher to permanently fail. The barrel must be cleaned after each use. When the launcher is fired, some of the plastic residue from the projectile adheres to the inside of the barrel and can cause a malfunction. Use only the provided cleaning brush and cleaning rod to clean the barrel. Do not use a metallic brush to clean the barrel.

NOTE Isopropyl alcohol is the recommended solvent for cleaning the barrel since it will dissolve the plastic residue of projectiles. If isopropyl alcohol is not available, mild soap and water may be substituted. 1.

Screw cleaning brush to end of cleaning rod.

CAUTION To prevent damage to bolt assembly, do not allow cleaning brush to hit bolt assembly. 2.

Place a clean wiping rag into magazine well of launcher, ensuring it covers the bolt assembly.

CAUTION Always keep the barrel pointed slightly down to prevent excess isopropyl alcohol from running into valve assembly. The alcohol will seep through to the O-rings and cause them to prematurely degrade. 3.

Hold launcher with barrel pointing 45 degrees downward.

4.

Dampen cleaning brush with isopropyl alcohol and slowly slide it through the barrel until it reaches the magazine well. Slowly pull out cleaning brush. Keep cleaning brush damp with isopropyl alcohol and repeat the process ten times.

5.

Remove wiping rag from magazine well.

6.

Clear any debris from the cleaning brush and let it dry.

7.

Unscrew cleaning brush from cleaning rod.

8.

Allow barrel to air dry before storing FN303 Launcher.

Place a small dab of silicone compound on index finger. Using index finger and thumb, rub a thin layer of silicone compound onto a new -010 O-ring.

With fingers, place a new -010 O-ring inside the power tube. Using tip of screwdriver, carefully push new O-ring into the seat of the power tube.

3.

With fingers, slide new -010 O-ring onto the power tube tip. Slide it down the power tube tip until it is seated in place. If necessary, use 1/8-inch flat tip screwdriver to push the -010 O-ring over the threading into the seat.

4.

Install power tube tip on power tube until hand-tight.

5.

Install bolt and bolt spring on power tube IAW WP 0026 00.

6.

Ensure ON/OFF assembly is flush with valve assembly.

7.

Install valve assembly and valve assembly retaining screw IAW WP 0025 00.

8.

Install launcher housing IAW WP 0024 00.

9.

Obtain a new stock release assembly consisting of button, spring, and release assembly.

Holding new release assembly with the catch side up, insert it into the receiver assembly as shown below.

Place new spring over the end of the release assembly.

Insert short magazine pin through the receiver assembly and magazine catch holes. Position 1/8-inch pin punch on the short magazine pin, and gently hammer until short magazine pin is flush with receiver assembly.

4.

Insert long magazine button spring and short magazine catch spring into spring retainer assembly. Push springs into spring retainer assembly until a click is heard to confirm the springs are seated.

Install new spring retainer assembly into receiver assembly.

6.

Slide new magazine catch button onto the receiver assembly. Ensure magazine catch button encloses the spring retainer assembly.

7.

Slightly push and hold magazine catch button to line up holes of magazine button and magazine catch, then insert long magazine pin. If necessary, use a brass hammer to gently tap long magazine pin into place. Verify long magazine pin is seated in the middle of the magazine catch button and does not protrude from either side.

8.

Test operation of new magazine catch button assembly to ensure smooth and proper action.

9.

Install valve assembly IAW WP 0025 00.

10. Install launcher housing IAW WP 0024 00. 11. Assemble launcher IAW WP 0006 00. END OF WORK PACKAGE

Flip up rear sight assembly on upper stock assembly.

Use a No. 2 cross tipped screwdriver to remove the screw securing the rear sight assembly.

3.

Remove rear sight assembly from upper stock assembly.

REPLACE 1.

Place new rear sight assembly into the upper stock assembly.

Line up the hole in the rear sight base with the machined screw hole insert in upper stock assembly. Insert screw into hole and use a No. 2 cross tipped screwdriver to tighten until snug.

3.

If front sight needs to be replaced, go to REPLACE FRONT SIGHT ASSEMBLY (WP 0035 00) now.

4.

Assemble launcher IAW WP 0006 00.

5.

Operator must Zero launcher at 30 meters IAW WP 0007 00.

With thumb of the hand holding the upper stock assembly, secure the front sight assembly. Compress spring with fingers, and insert into the gap between the front sight base and the front sight.

Insert new pin from the right side of the upper stock assembly and press into place using thumb.

7.

Grasp E-style retaining clip at edge opposite opening with fingers or pliers.

GENERAL This work package contains purging instructions for long term storage or shipment of the Portable Air Bank. The Air Bank must be purged prior to long term storage or if transported by air.

WARNING Handle Air Bank with extreme care during ground transport. Avoid dropping or sudden impact to prevent cylinders from rupturing and causing serious injury. Air Bank is heavy (approx. 88 pounds) and requires a 2-person lift using the two spring-loaded lifting handles to prevent personnel injury. Do not use transfer case handle to lift the Air Bank. Operators must wear safety eyewear and hearing protection when purging the Air Bank to prevent injury and hearing loss. Air reservoirs and Air Bank cylinders will be shipped depressurized to less than 20 psi absolute (IAW DOT 49 CFR 173.115) when transported by air. A sudden change in altitude may cause pressurized Air Bank cylinders to burst. 1.

If transfer case handle is up, unlock the red safety button on the back of the transfer case and push the handle down.

Lay Air Bank down on flat surface. Turn the six dog-ear style locks on the transfer case and open the lid.

Ensure red-handled STOP VALVE is in CLOSED position.

Ensure HP transfer hose is connected to safety fixture. Pull HP transfer hose to ensure it is secure.

CAUTION Do not allow the tubing under the control panel to freeze during the purging process. The Inlet Valve should only be PARTIALLY opened or “frosting” of tubing under the control panel will occur; otherwise, unnecessary stress is placed on the components, moisture may get into the tanks, and corrosion may occur.

NOTE Purging is a slow process and may take up to 3 hours to complete. 5.

Partially open INLET VALVE. Carefully monitor purging process to ensure the stainless steel tubing under the control panel does not freeze. If “frosting” begins to occur, close INLET VALVE and wait for tubing to return to ambient temperature. Wipe tubing dry. Re-open INLET VALVE to a lesser open position to prevent re-freezing.

Once AIR BANK PRESSURE gauge reads 20 psi, close the inlet valve.

If moisture is present on the stainless steel tubing, use a clean rag to wipe off and dry any moisture to prevent corrosion.

Close Air Bank lid and turn the six dog-ear style transfer case locks. Air Bank is ready for transport or long term storage.

WARNING Air Bank is heavy (approx. 88 pounds) and requires a 2-person lift using spring-loaded lifting handles to prevent personnel injury. Do not use transfer case handle to lift the Air Bank. Handle Air Bank with care during ground transport. Avoid dropping or sudden impact to prevent cylinders from rupturing and causing serious injury. 9.

If the Air Bank needs to be lifted, two (2) people are required to use the two spring-loaded lifting handles on the transfer case. Do not lift Air Bank by the transfer case handle.

10. To transport the Air Bank to a desired location, unlock the red safety button on the back of the transfer case, pull up the handle and use the wheels on the bottom of the transfer case.

DOT regulations require the DOT E 9634 fiberglass wrapped aluminum Luxfer cylinders inside the Portable Air Bank to be hydrostatic tested every three (3) years by an approved DOT facility. Units can find authorized DOT cylinder retesters, both CONUS and OCONUS, from the Office of Hazardous Materials Safety web site. http://hazmat.dot.fov/sp_app/approvals/hydro/hydro_retesters.htm

FIELD MAINTENANCE FN303 LAUNCHER (NSN 1095-01-526-7860) PORTABLE AIR BANK (NSN 1090-01-533-1622) MAINTENANCE ALLOCATION CHART (MAC) INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION The Army Maintenance System MAC This introduction provides a general explanation of all maintenance and repair functions authorized at the two maintenance levels under the Two-Level Maintenance System concept. The MAC (WP 0040 00) designates overall authority and responsibility for the performance of maintenance functions on the identified end item or component. The application of the maintenance functions to the end item or component shall be consistent with the capacities and capabilities of the designated maintenance levels, which are shown on the MAC in column (4) as: Field - includes three subcolumns, Crew (C), Service (O), and Field (F) maintenance. Sustainment - includes two subcolumns, Below Depot (H) and Depot (D) maintenance. The tools and test equipment requirements (immediately following the MAC) list the tools and test equipment (both special tools and common tool sets) required for each maintenance function as referenced from the MAC. The remarks (immediately following the tools and test equipment requirements) contain supplemental instructions and explanatory notes for a particular maintenance function. Maintenance Functions Maintenance functions are limited to and defined as follows: 1. Inspect. To determine the serviceability of an item by comparing its physical, mechanical, and/or electrical characteristics with established standards through examination (e.g., by sight, sound, or feel). This includes scheduled inspection and gagings and evaluation of cannon tubes. 2. Test. To verify serviceability by measuring the mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, or electrical characteristics of an item and comparing those characteristics with prescribed standards on a scheduled basis, i.e., load testing of lift devices and hydrostatic testing of pressure hoses. 3. Service. Operations required periodically to keep an item in proper operating condition; e.g., to clean (includes decontaminate, when required), to preserve, to drain, to paint, or to replenish fuel, lubricants, chemical fluids, or gases. This includes scheduled exercising and purging of recoil mechanisms. 4. Adjust. To maintain or regulate, within prescribed limits, by bringing into proper position, or by setting the operating characteristics to specified parameters. 5.

Align. To adjust specified variable elements of an item to bring about optimum or desired performance.

INTRODUCTION - Continued Maintenance Functions - Continued 6. Calibrate. To determine and cause corrections to be made or to be adjusted on instruments of test, measuring, and diagnostic equipment used in precision measurement. Consists of comparisons of two instruments, one of which is a certified standard of known accuracy, to detect and adjust any discrepancy in the accuracy of the instrument being compared. 7. Remove/Install. To remove and install the same item when required to perform service or other maintenance functions. Install may be the act of emplacing, seating, or fixing into position a spare, repair part, or module (component or assembly) in a manner to allow the proper functioning of an equipment or system. 8. Replace. To remove an unserviceable item and install a serviceable counterpart in its place. “Replace” is authorized by the MAC and assigned maintenance level is shown as the third position code of the Source, Maintenance and Recoverability (SMR) code. 9. Repair. The application of maintenance services, including fault location/troubleshooting, removal/installation, disassembly/assembly procedures, and maintenance actions to identify troubles and restore serviceability to an item by correcting specific damage, fault, malfunction, or failure in a part, subassembly, module (component or assembly), end item, or system.

NOTE The following definitions are applicable to the “repair” maintenance function: Services - Inspect, test, service, adjust, align, calibrate, and/or replace. Fault location/troubleshooting - The process of investigating and detecting the cause of equipment malfunctioning; the act of isolating a fault within a system or Unit Under Test (UUT). Disassembly/assembly - The step-by-step breakdown (taking apart) of a spare/functional group coded item to the level of its least component, that is assigned as SMR code for the level of maintenance under consideration (i.e., identified as maintenance significant). Actions - Welding, grinding, riveting, straightening, facing, machining, and/or resurfacing. 10. Overhaul. That maintenance effort (service/action) prescribed to restore an item to a completely serviceable/operational condition as required by maintenance standards in appropriate technical publications. Overhaul is normally the highest degree of maintenance performed by the Army. Overhaul does not normally return an item to like new condition. 11. Rebuild. Consists of those services/actions necessary for the restoration of unserviceable equipment to a like new condition in accordance with original manufacturing standards. Rebuild is the highest degree of materiel maintenance applied to Army equipment. The rebuild operation includes the act of returning to zero those age measurements (e.g., hours/miles) considered in classifying Army equipment/components. Explanation of Columns in the MAC Column (1) - Group Number. Column (1) lists Functional Group Code (FGC) numbers, the purpose of which is to identify maintenance significant components, assemblies, subassemblies, and modules with the Next Higher Assembly (NHA). Column (2) - Component/Assembly. Column (2) contains the item names of components, assemblies, subassemblies, and modules for which maintenance is authorized. Column (3) - Maintenance Function. Column (3) lists the functions to be performed on the item listed in column (2). (For a detailed explanation of these functions refer to “Maintenance Functions” outlined above.)

Column (4) - Maintenance Level. Column (4) specifies each level of maintenance authorized to perform each function listed in column (3), by indicating work time required (expressed as man-hours in whole hours or decimals) in the appropriate subcolumn. This work time figure represents the active time required to perform that maintenance function at the indicated level of maintenance. If the number or complexity of the tasks within the listed maintenance function varies at different maintenance levels, appropriate work time figures are to be shown for each level. The work time figure represents the average time required to restore an item (assembly, subassembly, component, module, end item, or system) to a serviceable condition under typical field operating conditions. This time includes preparation time (including any necessary disassembly/assembly time), troubleshooting/fault location time, and quality assurance time in addition to the time required to perform the specific tasks identified for the maintenance functions authorized in the MAC. The symbol designations for the various maintenance levels are as follows: MAC Field: C - Crew maintenance O - Service maintenance F - Field maintenance Sustainment: L - Specialized Repair Activity (SRA) H - Below Depot maintenance D - Depot maintenance

NOTE The “L” maintenance level is not included in column (4) of the MAC. Functions to this level of maintenance are identified by a work time figure in the “H” column of column (4), and an associated reference code is used in the REMARKS column (6). This code is keyed to the remarks and the SRA complete repair application is explained there. Column (5) - Tools and Equipment Reference Code. Column (5) specifies, by code, those common tool sets (not individual tools), common Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE), and special tools, special TMDE and special support equipment required to perform the designated function. Codes are keyed to the entries in the tools and test equipment table. Column (6) - Remarks Code. When applicable, this column contains a letter code, in alphabetical order, which is keyed to the remarks table entries. FIELD MAINTENANCE FIRING DEVICE, NON-LETHAL: FN303 LAUNCHER (NSN 1095-01-526-7860, PN 48001) PORTABLE AIR BANK (NSN 1090-01-533-1622, PN 48213) REPAIR PARTS AND SPECIAL TOOLS LIST (RPSTL) INTRODUCTION SCOPE This RPSTL lists and authorizes spares and repair parts; special tools; special test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE); and other special support equipment required for performance of Field maintenance of the Firing Device, NonLethal: FN303 Launcher and Portable Air Bank. It authorizes the requisitioning, issue, and disposition of spares, repair parts, and special tools as indicated by the source, maintenance, and recoverability (SMR) codes. GENERAL In addition to the Introduction work package, this RPSTL is divided into the following work packages. 1. Repair Parts List Work Packages. Work packages containing lists of spares and repair parts authorized by this RPSTL for use in the performance of maintenance. These work packages also include parts which must be removed for replacement of the authorized parts. Parts lists are composed of functional groups in ascending alphanumeric sequence, with the parts in each group listed in ascending figure and item number sequence. Sending units, brackets, filters, and bolts are listed with the component they mount on. Bulk materials are listed by item name in FIG. BULK at the end of the work packages. Repair parts kits are listed separately in their own functional group and work package. Repair parts for reparable special tools are also listed in a separate work package. Items listed are shown on the associated illustrations. 2. Special Tools List Work Packages. Work packages containing lists of special tools, special TMDE, and special support equipment authorized by this RPSTL (as indicated by Basis of Issue (BOI) information in the DESCRIPTION AND USABLE ON CODE (UOC) column). Tools that are components of common tool sets and/or Class VII are not listed. 3. Cross-Reference Indexes Work Packages. There are two cross-reference indexes work packages in this RPSTL: the National Stock Number (NSN) Index work package and the Part Number (P/N) Index work package. When NSNs or P/Ns Are Not Known.

First. Using the table of contents, determine the assembly group to which the item belongs. This is necessary since figures are prepared for assembly groups and subassembly groups, and lists are divided into the same groups. Second. Find the figure covering the functional group or the subfunctional group to which the item belongs. Third. Identify the item on the figure and note the number(s). Fourth. Look in the repair parts list work packages for the figure and item numbers. The NSNs and part numbers are on the same line as the associated item numbers. 2.

When NSN Is Known.

Listing these items is your authority to request/requisition them for replacement based on authorization of the end item by the TOE/MTOE. Illustrations are furnished to help you find and identify the items. Explanation of Columns in the COEI List and BII List Column (1) - Illus Number. Gives you the number of the item illustrated. Column (2) - National Stock Number (NSN). Identifies the stock number of the item to be used for requisitioning purposes. Column (3) - Description, CAGEC, and Part Number. Identifies the Federal item name (in all capital letters) followed by a minimum description when needed. The stowage location of COEI and BII is also included in this column. The last line below the description is the CAGEC (Commercial and Government Entity Code) (in parentheses) and the part number. Column (4) - Usable On Code. When applicable, gives you a code if the item you need is not the same for different models of equipment. Column (5) - Unit of Measure (U/M). Indicates the physical measurement or count of the item as issued per the National Stock Number shown in column (2). Column (6) - Qty Rqr. Indicates the quantity required.
