This will install the license manager software (lmadmin.exe). (lmadmin.exe). You can use another FLEXnet license manager program, but these instructions assume you are using lmadmin. Other versions of lmadmin can be downloaded from http://www.globes.com/support/fnp_utilities_download.htm
1. Extract the server install files Extract all the files from LANLicense as LANLicense as attempting to install files while they are still zipped will cause the installation to fail.

2. Install the license server Run lmadmin-i86_n3-11_9_1_0.exe (or another version depending on your Operating System) in the License Manager folder. NOTE: To avoid potential issues with installing, it is recommended that you right-click on the exe file and select Run as Administrator (Windows Vista or later only).
If you get this error: “Could not find a valid Java virtual machine to load”, then you nee d to install Java before you can install lmadmin. You can download the installer from http://www.java.com/getjava/

Check Install Visual C++ 2005 SP 1 Redistributable Package and click Next.
The default HTTP Port Number (the number you’ll use to access the server’s configuration and status) is 8080. The default License Server Port Number is 27000-27009. If you are already using a server on one of these ports, change the port number to something different.

Make sure to check Run as a service. This will add lmadmin to the services of your computer.
Check Start Server now to load a web browser and connect to the server. We will use the browser for step 6.

If you cannot access the server at localhost:8080 (default port), your lmadmin service may not have been started and will need to be manually started.
To manually start lmadmin and add it as a service: a. Open the lmadmin file found at C:\Program Files(x86)\FLEXnet P ublisher License Server Manager\lmadmin by right-clicking and selecting Run as Administrator (Windows Vista or later only). May also be in C:\Program Files\.... b. Go to the Start Menu and search for Services. Open the Services program. c.
Find the lmadmin service and open its properties by double-clicking.

d. Click the Start button to begin the service. e. Make sure the Startup type is set to Automatic.

3. Checkout licenses from the FlexSim Licensing Server Before you can set up the server, however, the licenses need to be checked out from the FlexSim Licensing Server. The flexsimserveractutil will install the licensing service and activate license rights from Flexsim Operations. Run flexsimserveractutil.exe in the flexsimserveractutil folder by right-clicking and selecting “Run as Administrator ” (Windows Vista or later only) a. Select the menu option Tools > L icensing Service > Install anchor service.
b. Activate license rights by selecting Connect > Activate. NOTE: You must have an active internet connection for this step. The program will connect with the FlexSim Licensing Serve r in order to activate license rights. You will need to supply the Activation ID and Quantity (Count) mailed to you by FlexSim S oftware Products, Inc. If you have several activation IDs that you need to activate on this license server, repeat step b for each one. c.
Once license rights have been activated, you can use Tools > View License R ights to see a print out of the contents of trusted storage on your server.
4. Copy the vendor daemon files Copy the vendor daemon directory (License Manager\flexsim) to the lmadmin install directory found at: C:\Program Files(x86)\FLEXnet Publisher License Server Manager by default (may also be in C:\Program Files\...)

5. Setup Windows Firewall Allow flexsim.exe and lmadmin.exe to be accessed through your firewall.
On Windows 7: 1. Open Windows Firewall through the start menu (Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall OR type Windows Firewall into the search box) 2. Click on “Allow a program through Windows Firewall” 3. Click Change settings 4. Click Allow another program… 5. Navigate to C:\Program Files(x86)\FLEXnet Publisher License Serve r Manager\lmadmin.exe (may also be under C:\Program Files\FLEXnet Publisher License Server Manager\lmadmin.exe) 6. Program will show up as lmadmin or Flexera Software, Inc. 7. Click Add. 8. Repeat steps 1-7 to add C:\Program Files(x86)\FLEXnet Publisher License Server Manager\flexsim\flexsim.exe as an exception in your firewall settings. (May also be found in C:\Program Files\...)

Windows XP: 1. Start menu > Settings > Control Panel > Windows Firewall 2. Click on the Exceptions tab at the top. 3. Click Add Program… 4. Browse 5. Navigate to C:\Program Files\FLEXnet Publisher License S erver Manager\lmadmin.exe 6. Click OK. 7. lmadmin will now show up in the list of programs (it may also show up under Flexera Software, inc) 8. Repeat steps 1-7 to add C:\Program Files(x86)\FLEXnet Publisher License Server Manager\flexsim\flexsim.exe as an exception in your firewall sett ings. (May also be found in C:\Program Files\...)

6. Setup the FLEXnet Server Open a browser and enter the url localhost:8080 (default port). This will connect you to the lmadmin and open the FLEXnet configuration.
When FLEXnet first opens you’ll notice four critical alerts on the left. These alerts may be ignored and deleted.

Click on Administration to Sign In. Username: admin Password: admin
You will then be prompted to enter a new password.

Click the Vendor Daemon Configuration tab on the left. Delete the demo license. Click on the Import License button at the top.
Click Choose File and select the flexsim_server.lic file. This will be found in C:\Program Files(x86)\FLEXnet Publisher License Server Manager\flexsim\flexsim_server.lic (may also be in C:\Program Files\...). Click Import License.

You will likely get an error message and a warning message. Ignore them and click OK.
You should now see one Vendor Daemon called flexsim with a status of NEVER_STARTED. Click flexsim to set its configuration. In the Vendor Daemon Location field, enter flexsim\flexsim.exe Click Save at the bottom, then click Start to begin the daemon. NOTE: The Vendor Daemon Port is not the same as the License Server Port.

To view your available licenses, click on the Dashboard at the top of the page and then click the Concurrent button.
7. Activate clients To activate a client license: a.
Open FlexSim.
b. Go to Help > License Activation. c.
Click on the License Server tab.
d. Check the “User concurrent licensing” checkbox and enter the License Server Address using the form @host or port@host. a. Examples: i. Default License Server Port (27000-27009): @10.0.0.132 ii. Custom License Server Port:
[email protected] e. Click Save Configuration.

Your client is now licensed to use FlexSim. Repeat steps 7a-7e for each client PC that will be licensed by your local license server.
