Did You Know? •
Adult amingos are 4-5 feet tall, but only weight 4-8 pounds!
•
Their pink color comes from the rich sources of beta-carotenoid pigments in the algae and small crustaceans that they eat.
•
Flamingo chicks are born with gray and white feathers and straight beaks. They begin to turn pink after a year or two and their beaks curve as they grow and mature.

Fasten o, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. Stu the beak; then sew it between the eyes. The top of the beak should be even with the tops of the eyes (Figure (Figure 2). 2).
Eye Detail Note: Vid #1 Linked On The Materials Page Shows This Step
Cut a long strand of black yarn, thread it onto your yarn needle, and insert it through the opening at the bottom of the head and out right above the eye. Sew 1 black st above each eye (Figure (Figure 3), 3), and then 1 tiny st at the back of the eye (Figure 4). 4). Weave your black yarn through to the opening at

the bottom of the head and secure by tying in a knot to the beginning end of the yarn. Next, cut a strand of white yarn, insert it through the opening at the bottom of the head and out right below the eyes. Sew 1 white stitch below each eye (Figure ( Figure 4). 4). Weave the white yarn through to the inside of the head and secure with a knot to the beginning end.

to make 5 “feathers” (Figure (Figure 5-C). 5-C). Sl st in the nal stitch. Fasten o, leaving a yarn tail for sewing.
First pin the wings to the sides of the body so you can check placement. The tops of the wings should be 9 rounds down from where the neck meets the head, and the feathers should be facing down and to the back (Figure ( Figure 7). 7). Now sew on the wings (Vid #2 linked on the materials page shows this

step). When you are sewing on the backs of the wings (where the feathers are), insert your needle into the wing, just behind the feathers (Figure (Figure 6) 6) so the feathers remain loose and not sewed down.

Now, atten the foot. To create the toes, you will be crocheting through both layers across the top (Figure ( Figure 8-A); 8-A); Vid #3 linked on the materials page shows this step: R7: Ch

Fasten o, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. Weave the yarn tail through to the bottom of the foot and use it to sew the foot to the at, open end of each leg (Figure ( Figure 8-C). 8-C). (I chose not to stu the legs, but you can if you want them to be more

rounded!)
Now, using the yarn tail that you wove through the legs to the rounded end, sew the legs to the bottom of the amingo’s

body. Sew the tops of the legs right next to each other at the beginning circle of the body (Figure (Figure 9). 9).
Tail Feathers Note #1: When attaching the yarn to your hook with a slip knot to make these tail feathers, leave a long starting yarn tail. 5 inches (12 (12 cm) is cm) is plenty. You want it to be long enough to weave through the back of the feather into the amingo’s body. Note #2: Also note – for the tail feathers you will be

crocheting around a starting chain to form an oval shape (Vid #4 linked on the Materials page shows how to crochet around a chain). Longer Tail Feather (x1) With pink yarn,
Ch 11, then starting in the 2nd chain from your hook, sl st 3, sc 6, 3 sc in the last chain. You will work the remaining stitches into the back of your beginning chain (Figure (Figure 10). 10). Sc 6, sl st 3, and do a sl st to join to your rst stitch. Fasten o, Figure 10: Crocheting Around a Chain

Shorter Tail Feathers (x4) With pink yarn,
Ch 9, then starting in the 2nd chain from your hook, sl st 2, sc 5, 3 sc in the last chain. You will work the remaining stitches into the back of your beginning chain as you did with the longer feather. Sc 5, sl st 2, and do a sl st to join to your rst stitch. Fasten o, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. (Figure ( Figure 11) 11) Figure 11: Finished Tail Feather
Now, beginning with the longer tail feather, sew it to the back of the amingo’s body, 1 round up from the backs of the 2 legs and centered above the gap between the legs. See the blue arrow in (Figure (Figure 12-A) 12-A)

Sew 2 shorter feathers next to each other 1 round down from the longer feather (Figure (Figure 12-A). 12-A). Then sew the last 2 shorter feathers 1 stitch apart centered above the other 3 feathers (Figure 12-B). 12-B). Now, all that’s left to do is weave the beginning yarn tails into the amingo’s body. With your yarn needle, weave them through the stitches on the bottoms of the feather and then into the body (Figure ( Figure 12-C). 12-C). And now you are nished! Thank you so much for joining me
