• FINAL APP is a combination of:  APP

NAV (Lateral Guidance Mode), and FINAL (Vertical Guidance Mode) dedicated to the Non Precision Approaches.

• FINAL APP guidance is available from the DECEL pseudo waypoint down to the applicable minima or Missed Approach Point (MAP).

• The FMS Landing System (FLS) is an FMS function, to fly published Non Precision Approaches (NPA) in a way similar to Precision  Approaches:

• • • •

RNAV, GPS VOR, VOR/DME NDB, NDB/DME LOC only approach with managed vertical guidance.

NPA Data

FLS Beam F-LOC Deviation F-G/S Deviation FMS Position FMS

PFD

Based on FLS beam and FMS position, the MMR computes the F-LOC and F-G/S deviations. These deviations are then displayed on the PFD and sent to the Flight Guidance (FG) for   guidance purposes.

FMS = Flight Management System

FG F-LOC* / F-LOC F-G/S* / F-G/S

PFD = Primary Flight Display

Key points FLS requires same flying technique as ILS ILS approach

Refer to a radio beam

NPA flown with FLS function

Refer to a virt ual beam

Final APP / FLS

Key points The approach capability

Rely on FLS deviations and on F-G/S, F-LOC guidance

Rely on FLS deviations & Cross-Check with NAVAID raw data i.e. VOR, NDB and/or DME

FMS data

FMS data

Managed Approach m ay be flown

Raw data

Disregard FLS deviations & Rely o n NAVAID raw data Only

Raw data Only

Selected approach must be flown

Final APP / FLS

Key points 

The FMS Landing System (FLS) is not a new approach type but only a new function to fly a NPA

The FLS principle is based on a virtual beam output computed from the FMS database

 All published NPAs can be flown with FLS function, if:  They are coded in the FMS database,   At least one FMS and one MMR are available and  The approach capability is F-APP or F-APP+RAW

Current NPA minima apply
