Introduction Female Genital Mutilation, also known as female circumcising, is a procedure that it is intentionally performed in women that are mostly under aged for no medical or beneficial reasons. Being unjust or not, these females are submitted to this with or without their consent for traditional purposes, millions of women suffer from this. Violating their human and children rights, the inequality that these women face are also psychologically hurtful, because after this process they are not able to neither have sexual relationships nor conceive babies, plus they are in risk to death. Throughout the said, the painful processes, the causes and effects of the procedure and the recent events will demonstrate how actually this is a pro or a con depending on the point of view. Message: To inform about a very common and unknown social issue that takes place daily and affects millions of women around the world. [Transition: I will now leave with Kidian who will abound on the different types of procedures.]

Body 1. There are various types of procedures when it comes to female genital mutilation. a. Clitoridotomy b. Clitoridectomy c. Infibulation d. Others [Transition: Furthermore this practice has several causes and effects which Jean will list and explain now]

2. The persistence of female genital mutilation is supported by some factors, and this practice has many effects. a. Factors i. Historical ii. Cultural iii. Social b. Effects i. Health ii. Human rights [Transition: Since, female genital mutilation still affects the world today, Ana Cristina will tell us more about statistics and recent events.]

3. Although this tradition began years ago, female genital mutilation still goes on today. a. In Africa about 92 million girls age 10 and above have been victims. b. Approximately 300,000 women in the US are threatened by Female Genital Mutilation. c. Statistics have diminished during the last two decades. d. Waris Dirie is a living example of the effect this procedure has on women.

Conclusion: Being said, Female Genital Mutilation has been practiced for many years, and it has affected and changed many women because of its strong procedures. Even though FGM percentages have diminished over the last several years, it is still a very big issue in countries all over the world. Most girls are too young to speak out for themselves, but recently, the previously mentioned organizations have been taking on the role of standing up for these girls and women. Most people are unaware of how dangerous and health threatening this may be. Whether we are in favor of this or not, it is important to educate ourselves on the subject and how it presently affects women and the nations that they are reside in.
