Essay for Nagoya University Eduardus Ronald Budiman - Indonesia 1. Essay no. 1 Ever since I was a kid, I have always admired on seeing some ordinary things revolve around me. Like the street in front of my house which always serves me a foothold when I walk toward home from a long day at school or the lovely sunshine penetrates my room’s window in the afternoon. When it comes to my favorite movies or songs that I really like, they somehow bring me to a peace of mind so I don’t mind watching or hearing it again and again. To interpret a deeper meaning, instead of just hearing and watching all of those things, I gained all the perspective sides from them, from every pieces of memory in my life and cherish it at the end of the day. That’s how they became extraordinary for me. It is one of many reasons why I choose Nagoya University as my ultimate choice, I don’t want to just keep seeing on extraordinary things, I wanted to become extraordinary itself. I’ve always wanted to become a part of Japan instead of just being a tourist, to know about the people, the life, and most of all is the rich culture of Japanese. To reach its good side, I proudly enroll to Nagoya University which will give its students not only a successful future of career but also encourage all of the students to know more about Japanese Culture. I’ve always wanted to go to Japan and meet other people from different countries as well and this is a very good chance for me! Being thorough to choose a university is very important for me. From the best I know, Nagoya have 4 Nobel Laureates in Physics and Chemistry and other numerous awards. This proves that Nagoya University has been always taking care of the students by giving the best professors and lecturers to maximize the performance that can be given by the students of Nagoya, which is again leaves me no doubt to choose Nagoya as a partner to a bright career and for my leadership development. I also plan to take myself on the organization on campus which will make me more insightful about all the great leadership in Japan that is admired by people around the globe even as a foreigner itself. I would also like to take this chance to expand my skill on Karate in its origin place. “The best is yet to come.” That’s what I have always been in my mind for the last 3 years since I decided that I wanted to take Mechanical Engineering department. At the time I hadn’t decided which university I would enroll. I was so blessed to find out that Japan had opened his door for foreign students who wanted to enter Nagoya University without any concern for having zero knowledge about Japanese language. Studying Engineering in Nagoya would be the best way for me to achieve my goals on my engineering dream. I would like to discuss my goals and dreams with everyone at Nagoya, not only to professors, but friends as well. It would be a golden chance for me to live around with Japanese people and share my dream. Although I’ve never seen Nagoya directly, still and all, I’ve never seen an university with a splendid and complete infrastructure for its engineering students, combined with great environment and natural season of Japan with full of culture, and all the best professors with passion and care for their students such as Nagoya University. The best is really yet to come.
Essay no.2 Option 2 It happened as I turned 15 when I was entering my high school life. Something that I would never forget for my entire life, something that made my heart crying until it couldn’t stop from sobbing state. Nevertheless, I figured out it was something that I would like to be grateful for all the time that Someone above had given me an opportunity to become a witnesses for such a madness. As I waited in some outdoor cafeteria near my school for my bus to come in the afternoon, I saw an old-looking woman with a worn-out rice bag on her back while holding her son coming from another side of the street. She was a trash-picker. Usually, a trash-picker is hired by some recycle company and the job is to pick some unwanted items on trash zone in the city. It is one of numerous familiar views in Jakarta, a big city with the rich and the poor combined in a single big place. Based on my sight, I found out that she had quite a lot of plastic bottles and another familiar object on her rice bag. As expected from her, she wanted to take a look at some trash zone. Before she searched the trash zone, she asked for permission to the owner of the cafeteria to pick some of the trash, then she said ‘excuse me’ to me who still sit while waiting for the bus. But apparently there wasn’t any trash zone located near the cafeteria. It was only a ditch, contained with trashes and other disgusting objects. As she approached the ditch, I began to vaguely remember of one important thing was happening before she came. One of my friend peed exactly on that ditch. I regretted that I couldn’t tell her about it. I was already too late. She was already picked out the trashes on the ditch as I remembered the whole thing. Her son was waiting for her to be finished on her job then both of them left the place. A tragic tragedy happened before my eyes and at that time I couldn’t do anything to prevent that old woman to pick up the contaminated trashes from the ditch. I wanted to say sorry to her but I held back my mouth for saying those words as it would only made her life becoming better. As soon as I went home, I realize that she had triggered me to do something valuable, it was like my heart felt that she was screaming, asking for help on the first place even though she didn’t ask one. It was absolutely right at that time I decided to choose mechanical engineering as my future department to raise the standard of lives of the poor. Mechanical Engineering is a wide major and has a lot of opportunity to be observed by research. I would do many researches on Nagoya to solve the poverty problem especially in my country through mechanical engineering. Therefore, I would politely ask for guidance and opinion from professors as I work on my research. To raise the standard of lives of the poor through my knowledge that I gain has becoming my passion for all time. With motivation and innovation, nothing is impossible for me to realize it.
