Learning activity 4 Evidence: My motivators Studies of successful individuals have found that there are a few motivators that guide their career and job choices, and make working an enjoyable and successful experience for them. Below you will find a list with the motivators that are most commonly mentioned by high-achieving people. For this evidence you have to organize them in order of importance from 1 (the most important) to 10 (the least important) and write a composition expressing how they have been part of your professional development. Recycle the grammar and vocabulary you have learned in this learning activity. (Example: I feel variety is the most important factor in my motivation. I don’t like doing repetitive things. In my current job I have learned how to use Photoshop and how to market different products online. I am becoming very good at it and now I am able to teach others.)

Motivators: Challenge - Competence - Independence - Interest - Lifestyle - Money Recognition - Relationships - Security - Variety

Motivator 1. Challenge 2. Interest 3. Competence 4. Variety 5. Recognition 6. Lifestyle 7. Relationships 8. Security 9. Independence 10. Money

Composition The challenge has been and continues to be my main motivation to overcome the obstacles. When something represents a challenge for me I try harder to achieve it. The interest has been my engine to put enthusiasm in the things that I do. When a project captures my interest, I am so passionate that I leave everything else in the background. The competence motivates me not to be conformist with the knowledge and skills that I have. It inspires me to constantly improve to avoid that the competition surpasses me. Variety is a good incentive not to fall into monotony. If my activities become repetitive, my interest fades and I no longer pay attention.

The recognition of the people is a reward that makes me think that all the effort I put into my activities was not in vain. Feeling that people value your work is a great incentive. Working hard and seeing the results in your lifestyle is also a good motivation. I have always aspired to change my lifestyle. I do not like living the same way I did a few years ago. Relationships allow me to make friends with people who share my same interests and concerns. I like to exchange ideas and learn from my social circle. It is interesting to listen to people when you pay attention to them. Security has allowed me to develop easily and convey my ideas without fear. Thanks to security I have become more daring to impose and make respect my point of view in the interactions with my co-workers. Independence has not been very important in my academic and work training. I think that independence is in some way synonymous with loneliness. I like to do things in a team. Money has never been my motivation even if I have had financial difficulties. It is true that with money we can aspire to live a better life but I do not feel satisfied being rich. It seems absurd and insulting to accumulate material wealth.
