Sample: After leaving school or university, young people should choose a job or career that they love, rather than one that pays the best salary. I would like to choose teaching as my career for some reasons. First of all, I can learn many things, especially if I teach to an udder-secondary school. If I teach History or English, for example, I have to read many books to make my teaching lessons more interesting to my pupils. Thus, I can acquire more knowledge of the subjects that I teach than what I can learn from the class text books. It is indeed a fact that a teacher learns a lot from the class text books; but that is hardly enough to make the teacher's lessons interesting to pupils. A good teacher must therefore read many other books. Secondly, as a teacher, I have to speak well so that my pupils will be able to understand my instructions well. In this way I can improve my powers of expression. Even my pronunciation of words will improve to great extent. Further, as a teacher, I shall have enough leisure to read and prepare for various examinations. It is possible today to sit for many important examinations by studying entirely at home. Thus, I can acquire important qualifications. Finally, as a teacher I will be respected as an educated person. People will assume that I have certain qualifications and show their regard for me and the opinions that I express. Thus, I shall be able to live a happy life. In conclusion, I would like to be a teacher and I will be try my best to make my dream come true.

Although speech is the most advanced form of communication, there are many ways of communicating without using speech. Signals, signs, symbols, and gestures may be found in every known culture. The basic function of signal is to impinge upon the environment in such a way that it attracts attention, as. For example, the dots and dashes of a telegraph circuit. Coded to refer to speech, the potential for communication is very great. Less adaptable to the codification of words, signs also contain meaning in and of themselves. A stop sign or a barber pole conveys meaning quickly and conveniently. Symbols are more difficult to describe than either signals or signs because of their intricate relationship with the receiver‟s cultural perceptions. In some cultures, applauding in a theater provides performers with an auditory symbol of approval. Gestures such as waving and handshaking also communicate certain cultural messages. Although signals, signs, symbols, and gestures are very useful, they do have a major disadvantage. They usually do not allow ideas to be shared without the sender being directly adjacent to the receiver. As a result, means of communication intended to be used for long distances and extended periods are based upon speech. Radio, television, and the telephone are only a few. Question 50: Which of the following would be the best title for the passage? A. Gestures B. Signs and signals C. Speech D. Communication Question 51: What does the author say about speech? A. D. waving and handshaking are not related to culture Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the following questions from 60 to 64. In the mid – nineteenth century, the United States had tremendous natural resources that could be exploited in order to develop heavy industry. Most of the raw materials that are valuable in the manufacture of machinery, transportation facilities, and consumer goods lay ready to be worked into wealth. Iron, coal, and oil – the basic ingredients of industrial growth – were plentiful and needed only the application of technical expertise, organizational skill, and labor. One crucial development in this movement toward industrialization was the growth of the railroads. The railway network expanded rapidly until the railroad map of the United States looked like a spider‟s web, with the steel filaments connecting all important sources of raw materials, their places of manufacture, and their centers of distribution. The railroads contributed to the industrial growth not only by connecting these major centers, but also by themselves consuming enormous amounts of fuel, iron, and coal. Many factors influenced emerging modes of production. For example, machine tools, the tools used to make goods, were steadily improved in the latter part of the nineteenth century – always with an eye to speedier production and lower unit costs. The products of the factories were rapidly absorbed by the growing cities that sheltered the workers and the distributors. The increased urban population was nourished by the increased farm production that, in turn, was made more productive by the use of the new farm machinery. American agricultural production kept up with the urban demand and still had surpluses for sale to the industrial centers of Europe. The labor that ran the factories and built the railways was recruited in part from American farm areas where people were being displaced by farm machinery, in part from Asia, and in part from Europe. Europe now began to send tides of immigrants from eastern and southern Europe – most of whom were originally poor farmers but who settled in American industrial cities. The money to finance this tremendous expansion of the American economy still came from European financiers for the most part, but the American were approaching the day when their expansion could be financed in their own “ money market”. Question 60: What does the passage mainly discuss? A. The history of railroads in the United States B. After graduating upper secondary school, the job I like best is to become a student at University of Languages International and Studies, and I want to be an English teacher in the future . The reason I choose this job is that I would like to provide children with my knowledge, as well as communication skills I get. Besides, teaching makes a difference in children, because I give them tools to help them be successful in the future. The next reason is that I feel s lot of schools in the community need hard working, caring, and responsible teachers, and I want to become a part of it. My duty is to study hard so that I can pass the next entrance examination, which is a basic key to keep me close to my dream.

I. PHẦN TRẮC NGHIỆM (64 Câu; 8 điểm) I. Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the word or phrase that best fits each of the numbered blanks. The Planets of Jupiter The largest of the giant gas planets, Jupiter, with a volume 1,300 times greater than Earth’s, contains more than twice the mass of all the other planets combined. It is thought to be a gaseous and fluid planet without solid surfaces, Had it been somewhat more massive, Jupiter might have attained internal temperatures as high as the ignition point for nuclear reactions, and it would have flamed as a star in its own right. Jupiter and the other giant planets are of a low-density type quite distinct from the terrestrial planets: they are composed predominantly of such substances as hydrogen, helium, ammonia, and methane, unlike terrestrial planets. Much of Jupiter’s interior might be in the form of liquid, metallic hydrogen, Normally, hydrogen is a gas, but under pressures of millions of kilograms per square centimeter, which exist in the deep interior of Jupiter, the hydrogen atoms might lock together to form a liquid with the properties of a metal. Some scientists believe that the innermost core of Jupiter might be rocky, or metallic like the core of Earth. Jupiter rotates very fast, once every 9.8 hours. As a result, its clouds, which are composed largely of frozen and liquid ammonia, have been whipped into alternating dark and bright bands that circle the planet at different speeds in different latitudes. Jupiter’s puzzling Great Red Spot changes size as it hovers in the Southern Hemisphere. Scientists speculate it might be a gigantic hurricane, which because of its large size (the Earth could easily fit inside it), lasts for hundreds of years. Jupiter gives off twice as much heat as it receives from the Sun. Perhaps this is primeval heat or beat generated by the continued gravitational contraction of the planet. Another star like characteristic of Jupiter is its sixteen natural satellites, which, like a miniature model of the Solar System, decrease in density with distance from rocky moons close to Jupiter to icy moons farther away. If Jupiter were about 70 times more massive, it would have become a star, Jupiter is the best-preserved sample of the early solar nebula, and with its satellites, might contain the most important clues about the origin of the Solar System. Question 1. The word attained in paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to _____. A. attempted B. lost C. changed D. reached Question 2. The word they in paragraph 1 refers to _____. A. nuclear reactions B. giant planets C. terrestrial D. substances Question 3. According to the passage, hydrogen can become a metallic-like liquid when it is _____. Lots of people used to think that school is the best way to educate children, but nowadays they have changed their mind. In my opinion, parents are the best teachers because they are those who understand their children most, they are always beside their children, and parents usually try to be good examples for their children to follow. First of all, nobody can understand the children better than the parents do. They watch over their children from the early time, so they know what their son or daughter is thinking exactly, and what their characters or behaviors are. Because of that, if the children make any mistakes, parents can more easily realize reasons and correct them on time. After knowing what has been wrong with the children, parents then give useful advice to them. It is the best way to teach and to explain what is right and what is wrong, what can be done and what cannot. Thanks to their advice, the children can become more mature and stable. Secondly, parents are always beside their children at any time. In life, there will be moments that a person falls into difficulties or distress and it is parents who are always worried and take care of them, make them more optimistic about life. Moreover, the children’s personality can be best formed when they spend more time with their parents. Every action from their mother or father will have a deep impact on how the children see the world and build up their feelings. Because of that, they can realize the responsibility for their own children later. In conclusion, the best teachers for children are their parents, who have taught them from the first lesson to many things in life with >> Truy cập http://tuyensinh247.com/ để học Toán – Lý – Hóa – Sinh – Văn – Anh tốt nhất!

all their love and caring. Parents are always beside their children at any time, in any case and most importantly, nobody can understand the children better than the parents do.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions At 7 pm on a dark, cold November evening, thousands of people are making their way across a vast car park. They're not here to see a film, or the ballet, or even the circus. They are all here for what is, bizarrely, a global phenomenon: they are here to see Holiday on Ice. Given that most people don‟t seem to be acquainted with anyone who's ever been, the show's statistics are extraordinary: nearly 300 million people have seen Holiday on Ice since it began in 1943; it is the most popular live entertainment in the world. But what does the production involve? And why are so many people prepared to spend their lives travelling round Europe in caravans in order to appear in it? It can't be glamorous, and it's undoubtedly hard work. The backstage atmosphere is an odd mix of gym class and workplace. A curtained-off section at the back of the arena is laughably referred to as the girls' dressing room, but is more accurately described as a corridor, with beige, cracked walls and cheap temporary tables set up along the length of it. Each girl has a small area littered with pots of orange make-up, tubes of mascara and long false eyelashes. As a place to work, it must rank pretty low down the scale: the area round the ice-rink is grey and mucky with rows of dirty blue and brown plastic seating and red carpet tiles. It's an unimpressive picture, but the show itself is an unquestionably vast, polished global enterprise: the lights come from a firm in Texas, the people who make the audio system are in California, but Montreal supplies the smoke effects; former British Olympic skater Robin Cousins is now creative director for the company and conducts a vast master class to make sure they're ready for the show's next performance. The next day, as the music blares out from the sound system, the case start to go through their routines under Cousins' direction. Cousins says, 'The aim is to make sure they're all still getting to exactly the right place on the ice at the right time - largely because the banks of lights in the ceiling are set to those places, and if the skaters are all half a metre out they'll be illuminating empty ice. Our challenge, ' he continues, 'is to produce something they can sell in a number of countries at the same time. My theory is that you take those things that people want to see and you give it to them, but not in the way they expect to see it. You try to twist it. And you have to find music that is challenging to the skaters, because they have to do it every night.' It may be a job which he took to pay the rent, but you can‟t doubt his enthusiasm. 'They only place you'll see certain skating moves is an ice show,' he says, 'because you're not allowed to do them in competition. It's not in the rules. So the ice show word has things to offer which the competitive world just doesn't. Cousins knows what he's talking about because he skated for the show himself when he stopped competing - he was financially unable to retire. He learnt the hard way that you can't put on an Olympic performance every night. I'd be thinking, these people have paid their money, now >> Truy cập http://tuyensinh247.com/ để học Toán – Lý – Hóa – Sinh – Văn – Anh tốt nhất!

do your stuff, and I suddenly thought, "I really can't cope. I'm not enjoying it".' The solution, he realized, was to give 75 per cent every night, rather than striving for the sort of twice-a-year excellence which won him medals. To be honest, for those of us whose only experience of ice-skating is watching top-class Olympic skaters, some of the movements can look a bit amateurish, but then, who are we to judge? Equally, it's impossible not to be swept up in the whole thing; well, you'd have to try pretty hard not to enjoy it. Source (TOEFL reading) Question 40: What surprises the writer about the popularity of Holiday on Ice? A. Few people know someone who has seen it. B. The show has not changed since it started. C. A B C D Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions Before the 1500‟s, the western plains of North America were dominated by farmers. One group, the Mandans, lived in the upper Missouri River country, primarily in present – day North Dakota. They had large villages of houses built close together. The tight arrangement enabled the Mandans to protect themselves more easily from the attacks of others who might seek to obtain some of the food these highly capable farmers stored from one year to the next. The women had primary responsibility for the fields. They had to exercise considerable skill to produce the desired results, for their northern location meant fleeting growing seasons. Winter often lingered; autumn could be ushered in by severe frost. For good measure, during the spring and summer, drought, heat, hail, grasshoppers, and other frustrations might await the wary grower. Under such conditions, Mandan women had to grow maize capable of weathering adversity. They began as early as it appeared feasible to do so in the spring, clearing the land, using fire to clear stubble from the fields and then planting. From this point until the first green corn could be harvested, the crop required labor and vigilance. Harvesting proceeded in two stages. In August the Mandans picked a smaller amount of the crop before it had matured fully. This green corn was boiled, dried and shelled, with some of the maize slated for immediate consumption and the rest stored in animal – skin bags. Later in the fall, the people picked the rest of the corn. They saved the best of the harvest for seeds or for trade, with the remainder eaten right away or stored for alter use in underground reserves. With appropriate banking of the extra food, the Mandans protected themselves against the disaster of crop failure and accompany hunger. The woman planted another staple, squash, about the first of June, and harvested it near the time of the green corn harvest. After they picked it, they sliced it, dried it, and strung the slices before they stored them. Once again, they saved the seeds from the best of the year‟s crop. The Mandans also grew sunflowers and tobacco; the latter was the particular task of the older men. Source (TOEFL reading) Question 55: What is the main topic of the passage ? A. Sample: As we move into the twenty-first century, technology is affecting many different areas of life and education is no exception. There are some advantages of incorporating technology to education. First of all, technology for education is promoting individual learning and mobile learning, both teachers and students are benefiting from this new technology for education. Some of the barriers in education have been broken down by this new technology for education; students can learn from anywhere, teachers can easily reach their students from anywhere. Secondly, technology is helping to change education in a positive way; it is part of the modern world. Technology for education is improving grades for students and it prepares them for the future. Technology has several advantages, but teachers who will personally oversee students cannot be replaced. It is impossible to walk away from technology as it has already penetrated the society, particularly the process of acquiring education. ( ID: 97119 ) Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions Three mile island nuclear power plant America‟s worst accident at a civilian nuclear power plant occurred on March 28, 1979, at Three Mile Island. Operators were trying to repair a problem with piping in the water circulation system, and they accidentally blocked the flow of water. This stopped the removal of heat from the reactor, and began a series of events that would change the way America thought about nuclear power. Within ten seconds after the flow of water was blocked, the reactor vessel became hotter and the pressure rose. Safety control rods were automatically thrust down into the reactor, causing the chain reaction to stop completely. Pressure, however, continued to build. A relief valve opened but failed to close. As a result, too much water escaped, and the reactor began to melt down. [1] Large quantities of radioactivity began to leak from the reactor. [2] Most of the radioactivity was contained, and it is likely that no one received a harmful amount of radiation. [3] “Three Mile Island” became the reason that many Americans are afraid of nuclear power to this day. [4] >> Truy cập http://tuyensinh247.com/ để học Toán – Lý – Hóa – Sinh – Văn – Anh tốt nhất!

( ID: 97130 ) Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions Stellar Astronomy Many parameters are used to describe a star. One of them is its temperature, which can be determined by simple observation; the color of a star and its temperature are related. Once the color of a star is identified, its temperature can be calculated through the use of scientific principles such as Wien‟s Law. There are different types of stars in the universe. For our purposes, we can classify them into two categories: variable and binary. Variable stars are those which show some degree of variability in their luminosity and magnitude. Luminosity refers to the amount of energy radiated by a star, while magnitude refers to its brightness. At time the degree of variability may be high, requiring a telescope with an equally high lightgathering power. This can be achieved by using a lens of large diameter, such as that of a reflecting telescope. Binary stars are those found in pairs that revolve around a common center. The closest star to the sun, Proxima Centauri, is a binary star. To observe a binary star, the resolving power of a telescope – its ability to distinguish between two close objects having a small angular separation – must be very high. Stellar astronomy is possible for a everyone, well beyond mere looking at the sky with the naked eye in order to identify constellations. With two basic of telescopes and rudimentary knowledge, much exploration can be achieved. Question 55: What is the topic of the passage? A. B. C. D.

Types of stars and how to observe them. The differences between binary and variable stars Types of telescopes The color and temperature of stars

Their school teacher is believed to be a very rich man. 69. Mary had her hair done last Tuesday. Part 2: Nowadays, the role of women has become much more dominant than it used to be in the past. It's a fact that the liberation of the women from domestic duties and subservient status has actually brought them an social position equal or superior to that of men. Furthermore, it's easy to realize in Vietnam that women' role is still changing in both family and social functions in modern community for the better. From archaic centuries in eastern countries like Vietnam, women have been underestimated for their feeble and forbearing nature. Therefore, the sterner sex always claimed superiority of ability and looked down on the fair sex. Only men could study and work while women must stay at home to take care of household duties. That's what happened in the past, how about the moment? Of course, women still do the housework but now the task is also shared with men. In some families, the father help the wife to pick children up, arrange the furniture of the house, wash clothes or even cook meals. It seems that domestic duties are ascribed to both men and women and women also have their own jobs like men. Moreover, women also take part in many social positions of the communities. There are female ambassadors, ministers, commander-in-chiefs and senators in Vietnam They even achieve high positions in their companies or offices. In my opinion, women are better managers than men, since they attain such mild and lenient delicacies to settle tense affairs in the most suitable, convenient way. They also possess the calmness and composure to face with difficult, puzzling and urgent problems rather than being impatient like men. In conclusion, women's role is becoming more and more prominent in the society. Their functions cannot be active, they are and this will definitely make the world better.

Ever since humans inhabited the earth, they have made use of various forms of communication. Generally, this expression of thoughts and feelings has been in the form of oral speech. When there is a language barrier, communication is accomplished through sign language in which motions stand for letters, words, and ideas. Tourists, the deaf, and the mute have had to resort to this form of expression. Many of these symbols of whole words are very picturesque and exact and can be used internationally; spelling, however, cannot. Body language transmits ideas or thoughts by certain actions, either intentionally or unintentionally. A wink can be a way of flirting or indicating that the party is only joking. A nod signifies approval, while shaking the head indicates a negative reaction. Other forms of nonlinguistic language can be found in Braille (a system of raised dots read with the fingertips), signal flags, Morse code, and smoke signals. Road maps and picture signs also guide, warn, and instruct people. >> Truy cập http://tuyensinh247.com/ để học Toán – Lý – Hóa – Sinh – Văn – Anh tốt nhất!

Rachel Carson was born in 1907 in Springsdale, Pennsylvania. She studied biology at college and zoology at Johns Hopkins University, where she received her master‟s degree in 1933. In 1936, she was hired by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, where she worked most of her life. Carson‟s first book, Under the Sea Wind, was published in 1941. It received excellent reviews, but sales were poor until it was reissued in 1952. In that year she published The Sea Around Us, which provided a fascinating look beneath the ocean‟s surface, emphasizing human history as well as geology and marine biology. Her imagery and language had a poetic quality. Carson consulted no less than 1,000 printed sources. She had voluminous correspondence and frequent discussions with experts in the field. However, she always realized the limitations of her nontechnical readers. In 1962, Carson published Silent Spring, a book that sparked considerable controversy. It proved how much harm was done by the uncontrolled, reckless use of insecticides. She detailed how they poison the food supply of animals, kill birds and fish, and contaminate human food. At the time, spokesmen for the chemical industry mounted personal attacks against Carson and issued propaganda to indicate that her findings were flawed. However, her work was proved by a 1963 report of the President‟s Science Advisory Committee. (Source: TOEFL Reading) Question 48.
