Use informative, persuasive, and argumentative writing techniques

This module aimed to broaden your mind in the informative, persuasive and argumentative writing techniques in writing an essay. Each technique has different features that when being used in an essay it produces an effective written discourse. These three techniques can be used in various ways depending on the occasion .

Obesity is a condition of being overweight or excessively fat. In health sciences, this condition has been classified as a lifestyle condition that is caused by poor eating habit and lack of physical exercises. According to the World Health Organization, the rate of obesity, especially among children and teens has increased tremendously in the past three decades (Koplan, 56). Hence, because of its high prevalence, obesity is now categorized among some of the most deadly conditions in the 21st century (Koplan, 56). While the need to prevent the condition has always been recognized, the process of implementing effective policies to deal with the problem always occurs in a nonsystematic manner. Policy actions ought to be more cohesive, intensive, and comprehensive if the decision-making processes are to be more precise, systematic, stakeholder-informed, and above all evidence-based. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to define the causes of obesity and a set of tools or methods that policy makers should adopt to curb the problem among young children in the society today. As indicated above, obesity is a lifestyle disease. Among young children, the condition is more prevalent because of the unconcerned parents. One of the most common causes of obesity is poor eating or dietary habits. Feeding children on junk foods is a problem that parents need to address if they must contain the increasing rates of childhood obesity across the world. Young children should be feed on balanced diets that include fruits, green leafy vegetables, vitamins, and mineral salts. Feeding children on healthy diets helps to prevent other morbidity by boosting their immune systems. Secondly, the rise of indoor video games has also contributed greatly to the rise of obesity among children. What is it READ ME Informative writing technique, which is sometimes called expository or explanatory writing, uses evidence and information from credible sources to support a focused and logical explanation of the topic at hand. The informative writing style demands that you thoroughly educate the reader on the given topic without including your own opinions. Persuasive writing technique is a method or persuasive strategy used by writers to persuade the audience to agree with certain ideas or thoughts. Writers use logic and emotions to make them more compelling. Argumentative writing technique- based on the evaluation and the subsequent subjective judgment in answer to a problem. It refers to the reasons advanced for or against a matter. The writer usually argues with another side to convince the reader to join a certain side.

7 Steps to Writing an Essay- to write an essay, you should generally: • • • • • • •

Decide what kind of essay to write Brainstorm your topic Research the topic Develop a thesis statement Outline your essay Write your essay Edit your writing to check spelling and grammar

Structure of an essay: 1. Introduction • Background information on topic • Overview of components to be discussed (structure) 2. Body paragraphs • Sentences giving explanations and providing evidence to support topic sentence • containing at least three striking arguments and one rebuttal to the opposing side (argumentative ) 3. Conclusion • Summary of the main points of the body • Restatement of the main point of view • Justification/evaluation (if required by task)

Why Students Should Eat Breakfast Every Day A lot of people, especially young people, go through the day without having breakfast. Many people believe that it is not necessary, or they say that they don’t have time for that, and begin their day with no meal. I believe that everyone should eat breakfast before going to their activities. The purpose of this paper is to show the importance of breakfast, especially for students. The first reason why you should eat breakfast before going to school is for your health. When you skip breakfast and go to school, you are looking for a disease because it’s not healthy to have an empty stomach all day long. It’s very important to have a meal and not let your stomach work empty. All you are going to get is gastritis

and a lot of problems with your health if you don’t eat breakfast. Another reason for eating breakfast is because you need food for to do well in your classes. Your body and your brain are not going to function as good as they could because you have no energy and no strength. When you try to learn something and have nothing in your stomach, you are going to have a lot of trouble succeeding. Breakfast is not a very big meal, and on the contrary, you’re going to feel tired if you don’t have breakfast because you have spent the entire previous night without food. The last reason to have breakfast every day is because you can avoid diseases if you eat some breakfast in the morning. If you don’t eat, you are going to get sick, and these diseases will have a stronger effect on you because you’re going to get sick easier than people who have breakfast every day. You have to realize that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and you cannot skip it without consequences for your health, your school and your defense mechanism. It is better to wake up earlier and have a good breakfast that run to school without eating anything. Without Alcohol, The World Would Be a Better Place It was 8:54 p.m. on a warm Sunday evening in mid-July. Westlake Middle Schooler Abigail Parnas was walking home from her Nana’s house alongside her mother. Engrossed in her new iPad, they didn’t hear the speeding car. Both she and her mother were mowed down by a 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV. They died instantly. A 32-year-old woman who was upset over an argument she had with her husband proceeded to drink two bottles of wine and then get behind the wheel to buy a third. She took their lives in less time than it takes to say, “Cheers.” If alcohol was banned, there would be a reduction in violent crimes and a diminished number of vehicular manslaughter cases. More to the point, the ever-popular Abigail would still be alive. Every day, nearly 30 people die, thanks to drunk-driving crashes (Wilson, 2019, p. 45). That equals one person every 48 minutes. In less time than it takes someone to watch the latest episode of Game of Thrones, someone will be killed due to drunk driving. If a high school student begins drinking alcohol during these formative years, they become five times more likely to drop out of school (Perry, 2018, p. 13). Worse, since alcohol lowers one’s inhibitions, it is likely to lead to even greater disasters, including drug abuse and unsafe sexual encounters. People all over the world drink to celebrate happy occasions. They also drink with friends after a difficult day. Social drinkers ingest wine or beer while preparing dinner, watching a movie, sitting out on the back patio, enjoying a picnic, dining downtown, and more. Why is alcohol so pervasive if it is a choice? Why do so many people choose to drink it? Are more people dependent than they realize? It’s easy to argue that the entire population does not have to be restricted from alcohol simply because certain people cannot control their intake. However, what if the gateway to bad decisions was removed? After all, alcohol is an addictive substance. Why should it be placed in anyone’s hands as a tempting invitation to death’s door? Even if someone is a moderate drinker, alcohol serves no health purposes.
