Do it Yourself 19 Item Checklist Setting up a System, One Piece at a Time 1. Assess application requirements 2. Research available component technologies and vendor products 3. Identify all software components and evaluate compatibility, drivers, etc. 4. Obtain server, storage, network and other components from vendor(s) for trial use 5. Assemble hardware components, including network design 6. Install base software components (sufficient to test networking) 7. Test physical system, working with vendor(s) to identify defects 8. Obtain patches/fixes for identified defects from vendors and deploy to test system 9. Deploy/install patches or new hardware 10.Repeat 7-9 until stable 11.Deploy upper-stack (application or application-server complex) 12.Test upper stack 13.Obtain patches/fixes for identified defects from vendors and deploy to test system 14.Deploy/install patches or new hardware 15.Repeat 12-14 until stability and performance goals have been met 16.Finalize supply chain (vendor price negotiations, component EOL practice, etc.) 17.Fully document platform state and platform-specific operating/maintenance procedures, vendor support engagement practices and internal triage protocol 18.Move the system from test/development to production 19.Start over when someone changes the application requirements, when a key vendor product is discontinued or EOL prematurely, when a key component vendor is no longer viable 5

Case Study

Customer Situation • Profile Leading university, the second oldest University in Australia 6500 staff members Over 47 000 students More than 11,800 international students from over 120 countries

• Higher Education Sector has been impacted by a number of external factors and is unable to adequately respond • • • • •

Economic climate Student populations and geographies, growing international intake Course selection, content, qualification, etc Multi-channel Self-Service

• Inadequate Security solution in place • Inadequate non-functional requirements in place for the Students Portal, i.e. Problems with Reliability, High Availability, Performance and Scalability.

10

Challenges Old systems costing too much • Rationalisation required

New capabilities required • Old tooling lacked features, productivity, manageability

72 projects initiated • 72 Compelling events to act within a given timeframe

• New / expanded business • Grow the Brand – Multi-Channel, faster response, better integration, intuitive usage, viral adoption • Protect the integrity of the Brand – RASP

Provide integration and data management backbone, consolidation and standardisation approach to address it's Tier 1 applications platform

11

Oracle Value Proposition • Oracle developed a strategy to engage • Help them find common architectural pieces

• Obtain outcomes by reducing associated risks • Consolidation / Rationalisation offering • Full stack – Certified platform • Integrated • Broad solution coverage • Exalogic, Exadata, Security for all channels of access, Coherence, OID, GG, WC, UCM, OSB, BPEL, etc.

• Alleviate Hardware and Software loading issues. • Engineered Platform strengths with Exalogic / Exadata • Reliability, HA, Performance and Scalability. • Coherence - Absorb more readily the load problems rather than hit back end systems.

• Will cache database data in memory, closer to the application offloading data access from back-end data stores • Will provides a reliable data tier with a single, consistent view of data • Will enables dynamic data capacity including fault tolerance and load balancing • Will ensures that data capacity scales with processing capacity

Oracle Data Integration Solutions Example Flow 1. Extract real-time data from Information Systems into database environment with GoldenGate 2. Transformation to MDM model with ODI 3. Using GoldenGate to update Coherence data in real-time 4. On-demand feeds from other databases to service bus with ODI Oracle GoldenGate
