European Standard EN 12390-2 : 2000 has the status of a DIN Standard. A comma is used as the decimal marker.

National foreword This standard has been prepared by CEN/TC 104 ‘Concrete (performance, production, placing and compliance criteria)’ (Secretariat: Germany), SC 1 ‘Concrete (performance, production, placing and compliance criteria)’. The responsible German body involved in its preparation was the Normenausschuss Bauwesen (Building and Civil Engineering Standards Committee), Technical Committee 07.05.00 Prüfverfahren für Beton. It should be noted that the conditions of curing the concrete specimens customary in Germany differ from those specified in subclause 5.5.3 (see National Annex).

National Annex NA (informative) Curing of concrete specimens when testing compressive strength and modulus of elasticity NA.1 General This national annex describes the conditions customary in Germany for the curing of concrete specimens intended to be used for compression tests and when testing the modulus of elasticity. It is essential that the test parameters given in subclause NA.2 are adhered to, use of the parameters given in footnotes 1) and 2) being recommended.

Curing conditions

After preparation, the specimens shall be conditioned in moulds in a closed room at a draught-free location, protected from loss of moisture (e.g. by covering with polyethylene sheeting), for (24 t 2) hours at a temperature of 15 °C to 22 °C 1). During hardening, the environment shall be vibration-free. After (24 t 2) hours, the specimens shall be demoulded, placed on gratings and cured for six days in water at a temperature of (20 t 2) °C or, alternatively, in a cabinet at a temperature of (20 t 2) °C and a relative humidity exceeding 95 %. Seven days after preparation, the specimens shall be removed from the water cabinet, placed on gratings and stored in a closed room at a draught-free location at a temperature of 15 °C to 22 °C 2).
