Update (20th March 2016) As this post is now top ranking on Google for anything eLitmus, we get a lot of request for guidance/help in prepration for the interview ,once you are well past the eLitmus examination stage and have actual calls. Well, Jatin decided to do a write up as back in the day, that guy did have his own implementation of a spiral binder with his own questions to prepare for any interview. Hi, guys, you must be aware of the eLitmus exam that provides (decent) jobs to engineers (including
me)
. As of now, in 2015, overall 1100+ positions were opened up on the eLitmus platform
across 46+ companies and 400+ jobs with salary > 4 LPA! Ain’t that cool? No! It doesn’t matter whether your college is 1-tier, 2-tier, 3-tier or even (5n+1)^n! tier; you will get your shot if you’ve scored well in eLitmus and if you know your shit you might as well crack it.

Before we dive deep in, let me tell you how I came to know about eLitmus in my last year of Engineering.
Well, on one fine night , I decided to close my routine tabs and started searching for “jobs portal in India“,”engineering jobs India“, “how to get software jobs India” etc. Google was giving the same shit about Naukri, Monster, Shine etc. I hopelessly searched again, this time on Quora, there some guy mentioned about the eLitmus test. Eureka.
The euphoria soon broke down and after digging on ‘eLitmus’, I also came to know about the toughness level of the test, for the sake of analogy, some folks even relate it to the mighty CAT. Now that’s scary?! So, I geared up and started preparing by doing the smart work, as I didn’t have much time for pure hard work. And despite having a weak maths background (backlog in maths too, shh! don’t tell my employer), I actually managed to get a good score in the test and bagged 2 job offers through eLitmus. (in
Bangalore…yay) Well, that was my story. It time to pass down the legacy to my fellow engineers. And it’s time for another meme.

The cost of eLitmus test is ₹920 and you can reappear for the test as many times as you want (after paying the fees again, of course). Last 3 scores will be shown to companies.
eLitmus test consists of 3 sections: #1. Quantitative Aptitude #2. Data Interpretation, Reasoning, and Problem-solving #3. Verbal ability
Important stuff Each section has 20 questions and each question carrying 10 marks. So, there are total 20 x 3 =
60 Q and 60 x 10 = 600 marks. All questions will be MCQ types. Syllabus of eLitmus is not defined and the folks at eLitmus suggest us to refer any standard MBA
entrance exam material/aptitude material while preparing. But, there are many suggested topics (given below) which are coming on a regular basis in the
test

Ratio, Proportion and Variation: 0-1 Q

Time and work: 2 Q

Time, Speed and Distance: 2 Q

Geometry: 4-5 Q
10.
Quadratic Equations: 1-2 Q
11.
Logarithms: 1 Q
12.
Permutations and Combinations: 2-3 Q
13.
Probability: 2-3 Q
Section B: Problem-solving (200 marks for 20 Q) 1.
Data Sufficiency problems: 4 Q
2.
Data Interpretation: 4 Q
3.
Crypto arithmetic: 3 Q
4.
Logical Reasoning Puzzles: 9 Q
Attempt crypto problems only if you are really good at it. Section B is toughest of all 3 sections.
Section C: Verbal Ability (200 marks for 20 Q) 1.
Fill in the blanks: 6 Q
2.
Jumbled paragraph questions: 2 Q
3.
Reading comprehension: 3 para’s with 4Q each -> 12 Q
Try to attempt the shorter 2 para(s) only, you won’t get time for the 3rd para.
You need to score at least 80+ percentile (90+ would be awesome) in all 3 sections to get short-listed for the interview process for most of the companies. Remember, only percentile will be shown to companies, not marks! So, do a lengthy analyse of the image below for marks and percentile comparison and come up with a good strategy for a number of questions you’re going to solve in each section. -=Time is the essence here=-

It’s time to build your own custom strategy now. That’s what Engineers do eh?
But! Hold on
chief! Before you close this tab and start creating your strategy, there is something else to spice up things. Yep! The deadly negative marking. Make sure you understand how it works with eLitmus because they do have an interesting algorithm for that. Read on..
eLitmus Negative Marking Scheme • If you do more than 25% questions wrong of the total attempt then for the rest of every wrong answer half mark will be deducted. • If you attempt more than 1/4th of total questions wrong then you get negative marking, • If 12 questions are attempted, and 25%(1/4) questions are wrong i.e. 3 questions are wrong, and 9 are correct, then there is no negative marking. Though, if you answer 8 correct and 4 wrong, negative marks will be for the 4th not for first three. • Negative markings are section wise not for the complete test.
If you don’t have much time to prepare, then go through the original eLitmus questions from previous tests (questions are likely to repeat!) on m4maths (Register on site to see answers).
Some More Tips
Arun Sharma books (Quantitative Aptitude, Logical reasoning) are advisable for eLitmus
preparation. You should keep appearing for eLitmus test till you hit at least 80+ percentile in all 3 sections (trust me it could be the best investment from your side. You would recover this amount on 1st day of
job
)
Companies hire through eLimtus from June to October-mid. So, you should take the eLitmus test
(and score 80+) before June i.e. before your last sem exams! Take it seriously. Please notice that eLitmus score is not the only criteria for getting shortlisted for Interview calls;
many companies also look at resume and branch (prefer CSE/IT). Lastly, consider moving to Bangalore (90% of companies which recruit through eLitmus are here)
after last semester exams. Even if you couldn’t score good enough, you’ll get a hell of opportunities here. Just get in some pg initially. There are many!

hey…why didn’t you guys mentioned the boundless competition in elitmus ‘after scoring well’ in exam. You should not misguide kids, tell them in complete detail how companies ‘shortlist’ hundreds of kids for single vacancy. And kindly remove that ‘(easily)’ from the title. Because from my experience here, competition is AT LEAST 1/(10*10), which is even above CAT, GATE etc.

Yes Rajat, eLitmus is any time better than Amcat and many good companies recruit through eLitmus like MakeMyTrip. As you already scored good in Amcat, it shouldn’t be tough for you to get good marks in eLitmus. All the best.

Hi Harit, That’s a great score. Just needed a tab more effort in Verbal. Never mind. The call depends on company criteria as it differs depending upon a lot of factors. If I were you, I would prepare a nice resume and reply to relevant openings on eLitmus and prepare my core subjects as you should be getting calls soon with that score.

Hey friend, I’m a mechanical engineering graduate with 74% in my 10th, 76% in my 12th and 68% in my graduation. At present I’m a Design engineer in Oil and Gas domain in Mumbai and wanted to skip my company for a better opportunity and relocate to Bangalore, as I see only IT company jobs are available in the elitmus portal, Will elitmus help me fetching a job related to Core mechanical field in Bangalore. Sir, each and every company recruiting through elitmus say candidate should have good academic score(as my friends say good=> 60%). Is it so? I have low cgpa of 6.35 upto 7th semester and studying in one of NIT’s. On my grade card it’s written that actual percentage is cgpa-0.5 *10 (i.e for me – 58.5%). Will i get a call from companies? I have elitmus score (Quant->95, ProblemSolving->86, Verbal->93)percentile and 10th and 12th greater than 75%.

Hello, My question is if u have a a bad academic record like 50% throughout but you score very well on the ph test say 8590 percentile.is there any hope of getting a job for such a candidate through elitmus. Hi Harshit, You are appearing at the perfect sweet spot. Just make sure you prepare and score well. The result is mostly out in a week post which you can start applying for job openings. eLitmus has the most number of job openings in the span of May-August. Most of the companies provide convenient interview locations but it all depends on the respective opening. You need to have a good grasp of IT concepts as most of the openings in eLitmus are in that sector only. I gave E-Litmus on 20th March. There was a girl in my room who didn’t have marksheet. She was from a different state and living here in the city. She said all her documents are at her home in the other state. She only had Election Card. She was still allowed to give the examination. But she was told to verify the documents within next test date.

I will copy paste same comment as I did to Piyush. I think you are better off in preparing for GATE than eLitmus as 95% of the jobs here would be for IT background. I firmly believe that one should have his efforts align with his field only. What’s the point of investing 4 years of your life in the field when you are going to abandon it just for a quick fix (Job-Money)? You should prepare for exams related to Mech and go for hands-on internship in some of the workshops to gain real world experience which will help you way more than anything.

Technically you will get a call from service based companies like Accenture, HCL etc. but if you are a good engineer and look forward to do some quality stuff at work, I will suggest you to religiously prepare and give another go at eLitmus and try to score 90+ in all 3 sections. It will be worth it.

It will be good if you plan an attempt in March itself as companies will start recruiting in the end of April-May. So, in case you don’t score well, you will have a chance/buffer to improve it further.

Hi Shruthi, I would suggest you to take eLitmus test before April. As companies will start posting jobs from April. So, it’s better not to miss any opportunity.

Hi Nisha, It’s hard for electrical branch to get a good job because most of the elitmus companies prefer CS/IT guys.. but you can always give it a try.

Hi Megha, Well, I will suggest you to go to full speed for GATE preparation as it is undoubtedly the best way to get into a Core PSU. eLitumus, while is great, won’t be of much help to you as 95% of the companies are IT ones. I doubt it will help you get into a Core company.
I think you should concentrate on preparing for specific exams for your sector. Regards, Jatin K Malik

Hi I commend you on the well written and informative blog!! You mentioned Arun Sharma’s book series as an ideal prep material. Arun Sharma’s books usually have 2 to 3 LOD (Level of Difficulties). Which levels should I consider attempting considering I have already covered my basic thoroughly from R.S. Aggrawal Quantitative Aptitude?

Is DATA INTERPRETATION n LOGICAL REASONING by Arun Sharma suffcient for the section B (Problem Solving) ? Will it be helpful to secure good marks in limited time(2 month) ? Should i choose another book?

DI and LR by Arun Sharma is sufficient to score well in section B. In addition to this I would recommend you to solve previous year papers of CAT. Standard of questions is very good there. You will learn a lot.

Nice post. It was helpful. I got my pH score and its as follows: Verbal 91.65 Problem Solving 90.86 Quant 23.48 I have very less score in quant. But please tell me, do I stand a chance with this score as other two sections are okay? Please guide

Hey ! Gourav , u have recommended to appear for litmus test frequently , so on which score any company would judge my performance. Also I’ll be preparing for e litmus from this week , and might cover section C and some portion of section A shall i appear for Test in Feb , what would u recommend.

Hi Ayush, Well, a good score might be 80+ in all sections. It actually depends on companies criteria. some settle for less some don’t. So better be on safe side and score good :). You can appear for test in Feb.

It depends on when you are going to take test also I don’t know how good you are at Aptitude so can’t suggest something concrete on this. But, you should, at least, spend 1-1.5 hours for each subject per day If you want to score well. All the best.

Hi Ramya, Mostly companies which hire through eLitmus seek out for current batch freshers. But I’ve seen some (good) companies which hire candidates with some experience. So, it would help if you have some exp. in tech domain. All the best.

Hi Hesanth, Not sure. That depends on companies if they require a PG candidate. Also 90% of openings are for a fresher graduate (B.Tech) on eLitmus.
