} University Foundation Year United Kingdom and Singapore Program overview

University Foundation Year: Every country’s school system and entry requirements are unique, which means that the EF University Foundation Year Program varies from country to country. In all countries, students will receive a portfolio of EF qualifications that are recognized by schools and employers worldwide, including a university accredited certificate, an accurate assessment of the student’s language ability and a personalized report of their achievements. Whichever country you choose to study in, you're guaranteed entry to one of our 150 partner universities worldwide.

In the United Kingdom and Singapore, all international students who have studied for less than 13 years are required to take an additional year of study known as a University Foundation Year before commencing higher education studies. EF's nine-month University Foundation Year program satisfies these requirements and consists of three main study areas: English, core modules and specialist subjects. Students also prepare for and take the IELTS exam, required may be required for entrance to a university in the United Kingdom

and Singapore. Core modules will focus on improving your academic skills, university specific IT skills and study techniques. In addition, students learn about the local culture and choose three specialist modules based on the degree discipline they will follow, including: Marketing & Media; Business, Finance & Management; Science, Engineering & Technology; Art, Design & Music; and Humanities & Law.

United States and Canada Program overview The EF University Foundation Year in the United States and Canada provides a combination of intensive English, TOEFL and university preparation lessons, academic research, study skills and essay composition. In addition, students can choose specialist modules in their academic area of interest, preparing them for their university degree. Graduates of this program have special benefits at some of our partner institutions, including acceptance of an advanced EF

level instead of a TOEFL score, flexible application deadlines and quick admissions decisions. Students may apply in advance for conditional acceptances for visa purposes. Students in the United States will prepare for the SAT university entrance exam. A fast-track program is also available that condenses the program material into six months, allowing students with an advanced English level to advance more quickly.

Australia Program overview The Australian educational system recommends that all international students who have not obtained an official Year 12 Certificate complete a university preparation program. To reach this requirement, EF's University Foundation Year program combines English tuition with study techniques, including presentation skills, critical thinking and research to help prepare students for university studies in Australia.

School system of the United Kingdom The United Kingdom's school system is considered the gold standard in education and has been influential in establishing educational benchmarks around the world.

Primary school Compulsory education begins at age five when students progress from Grade 1 to Grade 6, learning subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science. Secondary school From the age of 11, students attend secondary school. Starting in Grade 10, students begin preparation for their General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE’s), an academic qualification awarded in specified subjects (up to nine or ten subjects). A-levels at a sixth form college After taking GCSE’s, students can choose to enter the workforce, pursue training at a vocational college, or continue studying for two additional years for university entrance exams, called the Advanced Level General Certificate of Education, commonly referred to as "A-levels". Students study three or four subjects and their "A-level" grades are determining factors in university admittance.

The Bachelor’s degree Undergraduate students in the UK typically pursue a Bachelor’s degree for three years that ends with final examinations. Entrance requirements for international students include English proficiency (with a minimum IELTS level 6.0) and an additional year of secondary school, known as a University Foundation Year. Master’s, MBA or PhD degrees A traditional Master’s degree is in either the Arts (MA), Sciences (MSc) or in Business Administration (MBA), which typically last one year. They require both exams and a thesis to graduate. Some specialized careers require the completion of a doctoral program or PhD, which may include four to five years of advanced study and research, plus a formal dissertation. For most of these programs, international students are required to have a recognized undergraduate degree and an English level of at least IELTS level 6.5. For an MBA, students are usually required to have at least two years of relevant work experience.

School system of North America A degree from a North American university will give you a lifetime of rewards. With maximum flexibility, we’ll help you select the best university to help you reach potential.

Education in North America Schooling is mandatory for all children aged six to 16. The academic calendar runs from September to June. Elementary, junior high and high school Elementary school typically runs from Grade 1 to Grade 6 (ages 6 to 12) and Grades 7 to 8 (ages 13-14) are spent at a junior high or middle school. Grades 9-12 (ages 15 to 18) are attended at a high school where students gain a deeper understanding of core subjects and choose elective classes in specific subjects. All students aiming for university must take either the SAT or ACT entrance examination. Community colleges Community colleges provide programs for high school graduates and are often used as a springboard to a four-year university degree. They have fewer admission requirements than four-year institutions and usually cost less. Students can take a two-year Associate’s degree and credits are transferable to a fouryear bachelor’s degree.

Bachelor’s degrees at university Undergraduate Bachelor's degrees in the United States and Canada are typically designed to be completed in four years of full-time study. International students must have an English level of at least TOEFL 550 PBT/ 213 CBT/ 81 IBT to be considered for entrance to university. Graduate degrees A Master’s degree program lasts 18-months to two years; accelerated MBA programs last one year; and doctorates need additional study. Master degrees in Business often require a bachelor’s degree plus two years of managerial-level work experience. International students are required to have a TOEFL 550 PBT/ 213 CBT/ 81 IBT or higher English level.

School system of Australia Build valuable skills and credentials by studying in Australia, an increasingly popular study destination that welcomes students from around the globe.

Primary and secondary school Education in Australia is compulsory for ten years, but university-bound students study for twelve. Australian students study from Grade 1 to Grade 10. The curriculum is nationalized across Australia with students learning core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Physical Education. At the end of Grade 10, students sit their School Certificate examinations. They can then choose to leave school and enter the workforce, attend a vocational school or continue studying for two more years to complete their Year 12 Certificate, required for university studies. Bachelor’s degrees Upon completion of their Year 12 Certificate, students usually undertake a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree program for three years, although some degrees take four or five years to complete. International students must demonstrate fluency in English and the equivalent of the Year 12 Certificate from their own country to enter university. Alternatively, students can take an EF University Foundation Year and progress directly to a degree program at one of our partner universities. The entrance requirement for international students is normally an English level of at least IELTS 6.0.

Postgraduate degrees Postgraduate programs are offered in Australia for Master’s degrees in the Arts (MA), Sciences (MSc), Business Administration (MBA) and Doctorate degrees (PhD). Master’s programs generally last for one or two years. Doctorate programs usually require four to five years of additional advanced study. Candidates for an MBA degree will need at least two years of managerial level work experience in addition to a bachelor’s degree. The entrance requirement for international students is normally an English level of at least IELTS 6.5. Alternatively, international students can attend EF’s Pre-Master’s or Pre-MBA Program and progress directly to one of our partner universities.
