Description

Eclipse Eclipse 1. Eclipse is a phenomenon when the Moon or the Sun seems to disappear from sight completely or partly. 2. The eclipse occurs due to the movement and position of the Moon, the Earth and the Sun. 3. The Moon revolves around the Earth and at the same time the Moon and the Earth revolves around the Sun. 4. There are two types of eclipse, namely the eclipse of the Moon and the eclipse of the Sun. 5. Eclipses can be full or partial. (a) When an eclipse occurs in the umbra area, it cause a full shadow - full eclipse. (b) An eclipse that occurs in the penumbra area will result in a partial shadow - partial eclipse.

The Eclipse Of The Moon 1. The eclipse of the Moon occurs when the Earth lies between the Sun and the Moon in straight line.

Eclipse of the Moon 2. The Earth blocks the sunlight from reaching the Moon.

3. The Earth's shadow will cover the Moon's surface. 4. When the Moon is in the Earth's shadow, no light is reflected off the Moon’s surface. 5. The Moon appears to have disappeared because the Moon can no longer be seen. 6. Only the side of the Earth experiencing night-time will witness the eclipse of the Moon. 7. During the eclipse of the Moon, the Moon slowly moves into the Earth's shadow. 8. The eclipse of the Moon happens for a longer time than the eclipse of the Sun. 9. As the Moon moves from one point to another, the area that receives light changes as the Moon's surface goes into the shadow of the Earth. 10. Therefore, the Moon appears to be in different shapes when the part moving into the Earth's shadow changes as it moves from the penumbra to the umbra and back to the penumbra again.

The area covered by the Earth's shadow changes as the moon moves.

The Eclipse Of The Sun

1. The eclipse of the Sun occurs when the Moon lies between the Sun and the Earth in straight line.

Eclipse of the Sun 2. The Moon blocks the sunlight from reaching the Earth. 3. The Moon's shadow will cover a part of the Earth's surface. 4. The total eclipse occurs when the light from the Sun is completely blocked by the Moon. 5. The eclipse of the Sun happens during the day. 6. During a total eclipse of the Sun, the Sun suddenly disappears in the middle of the day and the sky becomes dark for a few minutes. 7. The total eclipse of the Sun does not happen often. 8. We should not look at the Sun directly during the solar eclipse because it can damage our eyes. 9. A safe method to look at this phenomenon is by looking at it: - From the reflection it creates in a basin of water. - Through a film negative.
