MEETING AND WORKING WITH THE INNER GUIDE In The First Step, we described what we believe you can accomplish. Concerning the Inner Guide, we wrote... You can learn how to communicate with the Inner Guide. Will s/he appear in front of me whenever summoned, just like a “genie?” Will I see her/him as clearly as I see a physical person and hear her/him speaking just as I hear a physical person speaking? Perhaps. Peter, and many others, have had the experience of a full-fledged 2 nd Degree visitation. It’s our experience that this doesn’t happen every time, or even most of the time, for most people. You may be different. What you can definitely do, however, is learn to communicate in a consistent and reliable fashion, with your Inner Guide. Your Inner Guide is totally compatible with you, totally supportive of what you want, and knows you more intimately than anyone else. S/he is the ideal coach/teacher. You might not even believe that you have an Inner Guide, so before we go any further we want to convince you that you do. Who or what is the Inner Guide? This is the crux of the matter. What are we talking about when we use the term "Inner Guide." We have no agenda here, so we will ultimately leave it up to you to decide what to believe. What we would suggest though is that there is a source of knowledge and wisdom within you with a range that goes beyond your normal conscious knowledge and wisdom. We see this in our dreams. Dreams teach us about ourselves and our conflicts. Dreams predict future events. Dreams provide creative solutions to problems. Dreams inspire us. Dreams offer new ideas, inventions, poems, songs, artwork. Even if you are only willing to accept your "Inner Guide" to be the aspect of your own psyche that creates your dreams, you will find working with that aspect fruitful. Of course you might believe that your Inner Guide is a Guardian Angel, or a Spirit Guide, or an Ascended Master, or a member of the White Brotherhood, or any of a hundred variations. We don't really mind how you view it (although we do suggest you be aware of any inherent limitations your description carries within it). You might wonder though, if it matters to your Inner Guide? To answer that we'd like to tell you about three people who have worked very successfully, on a daily basis with their Inner Guide over an extended period of time. Jane Roberts spent 20 years communicating with her Inner Guide, Seth.
Through Jane, Seth has dictated, verbatim, 7 books on the nature of personal reality, selling millions of copies and influencing millions of people. Some consider the Seth material to have been the trigger for the entire New Age movement. Seth referred to himself as an “energy essence personality no longer focused in physical reality.” Gary Quinn teaches people how to manifest the things they want in life through contacting and following the guidance of their Inner Guides. His approach is very popular because it works. Quinn refers to these Inner Guides as Angels. Machaelle Small Wright runs a thriving mail order business called Perelandra, Ltd. She sells botanical essences, which she makes herself from the gardens on her farm in Virginia. Her gardening program, essence production, in fact her entire business, is run co-operatively with her Inner Guides. In her books she discusses the different Inner Guides she consults: the Nature Devas, the Nature Spirits, her Higher Self and the White Brotherhood. Our reason for mentioning these three models in particular, for there are many others, is to demonstrate that while each of these are describing the Inner Guide differently, each relationship still works. So, as long as you are open to defining your “Inner Guide” as at least, an unspecified source of greater wisdom and /or perspective, that will be enough to begin your exploration. You may believe that the Inner Guide is more but never think that it is any less. The exact nature of the Inner Guide is far less important than the results of your communications. Connecting with your Inner Guide is critical because s/he will be with you long after you have completed any workshop or program. We can teach you everything you need to know to begin your quest, but your Inner Guide can take you further. We cannot know you as intimately as the greater You, knows yourself. We can’t care about you as much as your Psychic Self does. There is no one that can work with you more effectively; no one who will be a better teacher, supporter and companion on this psychic quest that you have begun. Some quick notes: While we are somewhat vague as to the exact nature of your Inner Guide, there are some things that we wish to state categorically. Your Inner Guide will be affirming, supportive and benevolent, having your best interest in mind but within the context of your desires. This is your life; you make the choices. Your Inner Guide will respond to your desires. S/he will not tell you that you have a duty or purpose and that you have to change or become disciplined or learn to do some specific skill or move to the jungle to fulfill your mission.
Your Inner Guide never loses patience, never judges you, and never feels angry or slighted. S/he will point out a path that will move you a step further towards that which you desire. If you miss the path or choose not to take it out of fear or for whatever reason, your Inner Guide will simply point out another path. If you find any of the above to be untrue in your experience, we would suggest it is because you are organizing your perceptions to include these limitations. While we are going to guide you through You can begin by simply choosing to pay attention to what you are thinking and feeling during the day. That’s the only way that you’ll become aware of what your Inner Guide is saying to you. There’s no point asking for guidance if you aren’t listening for the answer as the answer comes through stray thoughts and impulses. When you use Dynamic Meditation to meet your Inner Guide, you will probably get some sort of experience of him or her; a visual image, a sound, a sensation. We like to do formal sessions when we want to sense and bask in our Inner Guide’s presence, but we communicate with him/her throughout the day whenever we wish to, about whatever we want to. Let us just make it clear here that there is nothing in your life that is trivial. Every experience you have makes up the quality of your life and your Inner Guide wishes nothing more than to enhance the quality of your life. Everything you experience is an opportunity for you to reconnect to that energy which effortlessly creates the best of all possible realities for you. So you can ask your Inner Guide for help in any area of your life. [Peter: In our book Beyond Intuition, I was complaining about the sad state of affairs in the psychic field and made the statement that some people claimed that: “When you found a parking spot closer to your destination, that was the work of your spirit guide, (as if he had no better reason for contacting you).” [This was intellectual conceit on my part. I was wrong. I was thinking that persons claiming this were not doing what they should be doing…. getting on with the work of personal development. I failed to understand the true nature of your inner guidance. What is important to you is important to your Inner Guide.] SOME NOTES FROM JEANNE (If you have the PSD Kit, you have it easy. Just play "INNER GUIDE" and I will guide you through the whole meditation. This version is purposely simplified for those who don't have the Kit.) If you are just doing your exploration without the PSD Kit here is how you use DYNAMIC MEDITATION to contact your Inner Guide. We are assuming in the following instructions that you are already familiar with Dynamic Meditation and feel comfortable using it. If not you can use the preceding link to do that first.
If you are ready, read through the following directions and then away you go! Step 1: Assume a comfortable position. Uncross your arms and legs. Close your eyes and just let go. For the next few moments, there is nothing else to do, no where else to go, but to be here, now. Step 2: Slowly take a deep breath and when you have filled your lungs, hold it. (Don't strain). At the same time, with your eyelids closed, look up at the top of your head. Hold that eye position and your breath for a few seconds only and then just slowly let them go and, as you do, feel yourself relaxing, floating. Step 3: As you are feeling yourself relaxed and floating, focus your attention on your feet. Try to feel them. If they are tense, let them relax. Do the same with your legs, your seat, your stomach, your shoulders, arms and hands, back of your neck, jaw (very important), face and eyes. Step 4: Imagine a door. Go through this door and into your own Inner Sanctuary. Step 5: Imagine that you place your hand on the door knob (or handle) now and open that door. Walk into your Inner Sanctuary and see what is in it. Spend a few moments getting reacquainted with your Inner Sanctuary. What to do now that you are there: 1: Once you feel comfortable in your Inner Sanctuary imagine another door. (This would be a different door than the one that you have just used to come into the Inner Sanctuary.) 2: Clearly form your Intent to meet your Inner Guide. Say something like, "When I open this door, I will perceive my Inner Guide." 3: Now, imagine opening the door. Remember how it feels to hold a door knob and vizualize this. Then as you open the door, visualize a long hallway and a dim figure in the distance moving towards you. This is a personification of your Inner Guide. (By that we mean that it is a "representation" of your Inner Guide, not necessarily his/her real appearance. We mention that because we don't want you to worry about whether you are seeing the real thing. You aren't; you are seeing your psychological interpretation of the real thing and that is okay.) 4: Now, stop! Do no more imaging or visualizing. Simply wait and see what you experience. In most cases the figure will move closer and as they do they will gradually become clearer and easily to perceive. 5: Hold your hand out beside the Inner Guide’s face. Focus upon your hand and when you can clearly see it, move it towards the face so that the face becomes clear. Touch the face and feel it. Step back and hold your Inner Guide’s hands. 6: Even if you don't get a figure (perhaps you get a "feeling" or a "light,")
thank whatever you are experiencing, for coming. 7: This next step is more important than whether you see a "wise old man," or just "sense a presence." Ask your Inner Guide what it is that you most need to know at this point in your life. 8: Now it gets challenging again. You have to be still. Do not think of an answer; just see what comes of its own accord. Avoid the temptation to make something up. Try to just listen. Let the words, thoughts and impressions, feelings, sensations or imagery, come as they will. Spend some time communicating in this way. We recommend that you ask your Inner Guide for a name. Don’t make one up, ask. Don’t force anything. If you don’t get answers right away they will come to you outside the session usually within 24 – 48 hours. After a few moments, thank your Inner Guide for whatever you got (even if you think you got nothing) and end your meditation. That's all there is to it... Once in your Inner Sanctuary, you imagine another door. Tell yourself that behind that door will be your Inner Guide. Imagine opening the door and looking down a long hallway. See what you see, get what you get. Thank whatever you get for coming; ask what you most need to know at this point in your life and then do nothing but be aware of what comes. Thank your Inner Guide again and end the session. How to come back: 1: Mentally say the word “one” and become aware of your physical body sitting or lying down; the feel of being in the physical world, any sounds or smells. 2: Say the word “two” and stretch your arms, hands, fingers, legs, feet, toes, and release them. You move your whole body about. 3: On the count of “three” you open your eyes, look around you, get up and stretch, maybe walk if you need to. In the book and guided meditation tapes we spend more time with the induction. We use some progressive relaxation and visualization to help you focus more clearly in this state. But what I've have given you here is an excellent beginning. And now, get yourself into a comfortable position, begin your Inner Journey and come back here afterwards. Did you go yet? If you haven’t, I’ll wait…. If you have… Write down your experiences and questions in your Psychic Journal. (If you have "Beyond Intuition," check out Trouble Shooting and Tips from
the Experts on page 74 for more ideas and advice.) Now, if you wish, go to our FORUM There you can post your experiences and ask your questions, then check back in a couple days. REFLECTIONS ON MEETING WITH YOUR INNER GUIDE A good Inner Guide session and contact will be like the results of a good dream interpretation. You should find them counseling, supportive, and motivational. It should tell you something new about yourself or give you a new perspective. In all it should be “life affirming.” If it is, then even if the skeptical side of you doubts the supernatural origin of the information, you will at least find it extremely beneficial. Don’t expect that your Inner Guide will materialize in the room or that you will hear voices outside your head. That can happen, but probably not right away. (If that is what you would like to happen, you can choose to make that you focus of your psychic exploration.) Realize that you might be challenged by fears that you are “making it all up.” The beginning of this is the worst, but you have to put aside your doubts and simply pretend or act as if it was for real. Then judge by the material that you get. Everything you get has meaning. Each of us is different. You might have a natural inclination for communication with your Inner Guide. From our experience, personal and in coaching others, let me make some strong suggestions... 1) Take your time. 2) Don’t test the source in the beginning. 3) Don’t expect the communications to be omnipotent or infallible. 4) Don’t ask for a prediction; that is your department. 5) Don’t ask for the origin of the world, the purpose of life, the lowdown on Atlantis and UFOs or the secret of the Cosmos. Instead ask for comments on your personal relationships, why you feel how you do, what holds you back. 6) If your source claims to be a big shot, tell him/her goodbye. Judge your source like you would judge a coach, teacher, therapist or friend. LAST WORD Peter: Your Inner Guide doesn’t live in your Inner Sanctuary. You don’t have to limit your interaction to a formal Inner Journey. I have found that useful to do when first exploring the Inner Guide because it usually makes it easier for you to personify that aspect of your Self. Your Inner Guide is with you 24/7. If you need a good parking spot ask your Inner Guide to find one for you. If you have a problem, give it up to your Inner Guide to solve. If you are having trouble sticking to your diet, ask your
Inner Guide to help. Throughout your day you can ask your Inner Guide for things. Until next month, Cheers, Peter (and Jeanne) PsychicSelfDiscovery.com
