Management and supervisory staff, emergency team members and workers) Objective of drill : In view of the spate of electrocution accidents in construction industry in recent months, the purpose of drill was to provide a practical exercise to the relevant site personnel and workers in dealing with the emergency rescue procedure of electric shock. By so doing, to strengthen cooperation among site organizations concerned and raise their safety awareness of accident prevention. Circumstances: 1. The rescue procedure of drill was based on the predetermined response actions of Health and Safety Plan and extracted from the safety notice Electric Shock  , which has been approved by the Commissioner for Labour. “



2. Before the start of the drill, the Site Agent and the emergency team member including the Safety Officer, Site Engineer, foreman and first aider briefed all the workers on the hazards of electrical power, their precaution and preventive measures. (Photo 1) 3. The drill was conducted on the assumption that a worker received an electric shock when Page 1 of 7

using a low voltage portable electrical tool. (Photo 2) 4. Safety Officer demonstrated how to properly separate the worker from the current source by using non-conductive object (e.g. wooden rod) when unable to turn off the  power switch and unplug the power cord. (Photo 3) 5. Under the assistance of the First Aider, the injured worker was moved to a safe place for  first aid treatment. (Photo 4) 6. After physical checking the breathing and carotid pulse of the injured worker, the First Aider confirmed the worker was unconscious and not breathing at all. (Photo 5) 7. The First Aider provided the Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) treatment to the injured worker. (Photo 5 & 6) 8. After having the CPR treatment, the physical condition of the injured worker has been restored to normal. (Photo 7) 9. Finally, Safety Officer reviewed the whole process of the drill and briefed to all  participants about the important notes on electrical shock prevention and treatment. (Photo 8)

*Remark:

Electrical shocks always need emergency medical attention even if the  person seems to be fine afterward.
