Description

In the Sumudayashtaka chart ,Rekhas forty- two in a house manifest honour,wealth and good results of that house in general. Rekha count thirty is moderate and that below nineteen considerably damages the house effects. Eclipes in the rashi from the natal moon sign causes rashi -wise effects: 1. Health loss 2. Loss of wealth 3. Gain 4. Loss of comforts 5. Loss of child oriented venture 6. Gain and comfort 7. Loss of marital harmony 8. Loss of longevity 9. Loss of reputation 10. Professional advancement 11. Gains 12. Great loss. The Rohini nakshatra region has 5 major brilliant stars, looking almost like the letter ‘V’ of the English alphabet, in the northern celestial sphere (like ^ in the Southern sky) and appear like a chariot. Soon the Moon is likely to start pricking the Rohini-Shakata in its every cycle, during the Rahu transit in Tula to Mithuna (191 degree onward) ranging 6-7years and this affects many mundane affairs. We can determine the date of eclipse by obtaining the acute angle of difference between the Sun and Rahu. The solar eclipse must occur when the this is less than 15 degrees on Amavasya. Similarly the lunar eclipse is certain when the said difference is less than 9 degrees on Purnima. Interesting to know: M.M. Bapudeva Shastri of Varanasi had got a prize worth Rs.1000/- from Maharaja Ranbir Singh, the ruler of Jammu (India) in the 19th century for his precise calculation of the lunar eclipse. The Ranvir Jyotir Nibandha, was written under Maharaja's supervision. In the 17th century, Maharaja Jaisingh, the king of Jaipur (India), had severally achieved ascendance in the eclipse calculation in comparison to his European contemporaries. And in the 21 st century, where we stand? The Saravali declares that birth during eclipse having a node, the Sun or the Moon in the lagna with another malefic, and Mars in the eighth house, an effective Maaraka Yoga emerges.(vide Chapter 10, Shloka 37). Here are 21 Mahadoshas: 1. Krantisaamya or Mahapaata, 2.Combust Moon, 3.Asta of Guru and Shukra Asta,

4 Gandanta, 5.The day of Samkranti, 6.Three days Pre & post of an eclipse day, 7.Dagdha Tithi, 8. Omitted Titihi, 9.Bhadra Karana, 10. The Moon in lagna, 11.Paapa Kartari, 12.Nakshatra in a deep Yuti with a planet, 13. Gulika, 14, Ardha Prahara, 15. Majority of malefic vargas in lagna, 16. Yamaghanta, 17. Inauspicious combination of a Tithi & Nakshatra & a week day, 18.Vaidhriti ,Vyatipaata, Gnada, Atiganda etc. yogas with inauspicious names, 19. Nakshatra occupied by Sun or Moon during eclipse, 20. The day of natural calamity, 21. The nakshatra involved in planetary war. Gulika or Maandi plays a vital role in predictive astrology. For an instance : Lagna x 5 + longitude of Gulika = Prana Sphut Moon x 8 +longitude of Gulika = Deha Sphut Gulika x 7 +longitude of Sun = Mrityu Sphut When the Prana and Deha are more than the Mrityu, the native is likely to live long. However, if Mirtyu is bigger than the Prana and Deha, a sudden end of life is indicated. Mahadoshas 21 in number are explained : Kraantisaamya is the moment when the declination(Kranti) of the Sun and the Moon become equal on either side, i.e. north or south of the celestial equator. durung this century, this will be coinciding with Shubha & Shukla yogas and Ganda & Vriddhi yogas. Today, the day of Krantisamya, the middle of KS happens to be at 18 53 hrs. when the Kranti of the two luminaries is equal as 4:38' N and 4:38'S respectively. Malefics strongly disposed in houses 1, 2, 5, 9 and 12 confer good and proper knowledge of Jyotisha. It conveys that an astrologer is born when several malefic planets, free from other malefic aspect, occupy any of the above houses. Dagdha Tithi: A Tithi in any Paksha, becomes Dagdha when it coincides with a certain weekday as follows: Sunday- 12 Tithi, Monday-11, Tuesday-5, Wed-3, Thursday-6, Friday-8, Saturday-9. In 1890 AD Venkatesha Ketkar wrote his famous work ‘Jyotir Ganitam’, establishing a tremendous compatibility with modern research and classics. In this work, he emphasized the importance of the

Chitra Paksha ayanamsha. Sri Bal Gangadhar Tilak, better known as Lokmanya Tilak, also wrote his book ‘Orion’ in 1893. Sri Tilak insisted on the point that the ending point of Revati, i.e., Zeta Picium should be accepted as the commencing point of zodiac, without thinking of Chitraa. This was known as The Rewat Paksha. Shri Venkatesha Ketkar, Sri Vinayak Shastri and many others were sticking to the Chitraa nakshtra as this was the only Ayanamsha supported by Vedic system. contd. In a Vedic mantra(Swasti Naha Indro Vriddhashrawaha Swasti Naha Pusha.....), Chitraa nakshatra has been clearly assigned for the purpose. Four important nakshatras are refered to here by citing the names of their ruling deities. 1. Chitraa, whose ruling deity is the Vriddhashravah (having long ears) or Indra (according to the old branch of Yajur Veda, Taittriya Shakha). 2. Revati, whose ruling deity is Pusha. 3. Shravana, whose ruling deity is Tarkshya, i.e., Garuda, and on a later stage lord Vishnu. 4. Pushya, ruled by Brihaspati. This refers to four important points on the zodiac, seeking blessings and comforts from these. Why has Chitraa (Indra) been cited as the opening nakshatra? The ending point of Revati is the beginning point of Ashwini or the commencing point of the zodiac. Chitraa and the ending point of Revati constitute one opposing pair, i.e., 180 degrees apart, while Shravana and Pushya constitute the other opposing pair. Therefore, the order of citation represents a specific sense.. The nakshatra Chitraa falls at the central point of zodiac since it has 13 nakshatras on either side of it. When we join these four points by a straight lines the idea of ‘Swastika’ automatically emerges. Yamaghanta : Divide the duration of the day or night, as the case may be, by 15. Take the quotient and multiply it by the following fixed constants according to the weekday in question. Add the result to the sunrise or suset respectively for the epoch of daytime or nighttime. the sum gives us the time of beginning of the Yamaghanta. Fixed constants are: Sunday-9, Monday-7, Tuesday-5, Wednesday-3,Thursday-1, Friday-13, Saturday-11. Hipparchus, a Greck astronomer, was the first to recognise Ayanmasha motion in 125 BC, while the rate of this was not clear to him. When he prepared a fresh list of 137 stars, he found a little difference, of about 2 degrees, in comparison to the list earlier prepared by Timocheris about 170 years earlier. He thus came to the conclusion that the VE point or the ecliptic was receding westward. About 300 years after Hipparchus, Ptolemy mentioned of the Ayana Gati and estimated its rate to be around 36” per year, according to his famous work ‘Sintaxis’. Several centuries later, Albatani (880 AD), an Arab prince and a well-known astrologer, determined through actual Vedha or observation the rate of precession or the rate of Ayanamsha as 55.5" per year. Initially, ayanamsha, calculated with Ketkar's method, was called ‘Chitraa Paksheeya Ayanamsha’, but after Ketkar’s demise, people started calling it ‘Ketakeeya Ayanamsha’. Even after this exercise, the issue still remained controversial. Some religious, orthodox, conservative people were not accepting this fact. Therefore, the Government of India appointed a committee, namely ‘The Calendar Reform Committee’, in 1956 and appointed Mr. Nirmal Chandra Lahiri as a senoir member, who was the first Indian member of ‘Ephemerides Commision of the

International Astronomical Union (Paris) and the officer-in-charge of the Nautical Almanac, unit of Govt. of India, now known as Positional Astronomy Centre. After precise calculations, the committee concluded that on 22nd March, 285 A.D, the star ‘Spica Viginis’ (Chitraa) was very close to the ecliptic and located at 180 degrees opposite to V.E. point. The outcome of the above-mentioned committee has been confirmed by the ‘Astronomisches Rechen Institut of Heidelberg, Germany. This institute found the calculation to be very correct. Mr. Lahiri himself called this Ayanamsha as ‘Chitraa Paksha Ayanamsha’, rather duly corrected with the help of modern research. To calculate true value of Ayana Gati, we should follow the Newcomb Formula. In 1850, Newcomb, a reputed authority in Astro-Physics gave this formula. Therefore, years elapsed since 1850 are to be used in this connection. The formula is as follows: 50.2453" + 0.0002225" x years elapsed since 1850 For instance, in 2013 A.D., the number of years elapsed since 1850 is 163. 50.2453" + 0.0002225" x 163= 50.2815675" or 50.3" is the current rate of Ayana motion and it would be relevant for centuries. In 2000, it was 50.278", in 2100 A.D. it will remain 50.3", in 2200 A.D., it would be 50.323" and in 2300 A.D. will become 50.345" only, thus practically we can consider it 50.3" per year, relevant for centuries. During the 13 th century AD, Naseeruddin, an Iranian astronomer, established an observatory in the north- west of Iran. He determined the rate of precession as 51.00" per year, very close to modern value. During later years, until 1750 AD, after true physical observations, many European, French and German astronomers came to the conclusion that the rate of Ayana motion would swing between 51" to 50.21129" per year. Sage Parashara had accepted the rate of precession to be 46.5," Arya Bhatt II to be 46.3" while Munjala, Bhaskaracharya and Ganesha Daivajna considered it to be 59.9007" (practically 1 degree or kala) per year. Parameters of environment in India, Vikram Samvat 2070 • Jala (water) Stambha: Revati coinciding with Chaitra Shukla (April 10, 2013) for 6 hours 24 minutes, i.e., 26% is below average, indicates crisis of water. • Trina (crops, grass, vegetables) Stambha : Bharani coinciding with Vaishakha shukla 1 (May 10, 2013) 02 hours 21 minutes, 9% indicates high price & less availability of the concerned items. • Vaayu (air, green house effect) Stambha : Mrigshira combined with Jyeshtha Shukla 1 (June 9, 2013) for 25 hours 04 minutes, 96% diminishes possibility of calamity, heavy wind, pollution and green house effects. • Anna (food grains, cereals) : Punarvasu coincides with Ashaadha Shukla 1 (July 8-9, 2013) for 57% of total duration, results in controlled inflation. Parameters of Law & Order for the Samvat : 1.The Moola on last Pausha Amavasya (Jan 10-11, 2013) was combined for zero, 0%, foretells

worst situation. 2. On Akshaya 3, Rohini operates 03 hours 22 minutes, 11% indicates troubles. 3.On Rakhi, Shravana nakshatra coincides with the tithi for 03 hours 28 minutes, 16% points out agony. 4. On Kartika 15, Krittika remains with the tithi for 09 hours 06 minutes, 38% suggests terror, violence, turbulance during the Samvatsara. Like Kaalapurusha, the Samvatsara Purusha is also relevant for yearly predictions which is as follows: Krittika and Rohini: Body, P Ashadha and U Ashadha : Navel Shlesha: Heart, Magha : Vitality, strength and generative ability. When a natural malefic(s) is conjunct with the Samvatsara Purusha, certain malefic results appear as: • Riots, great disturbances, natural calamities, floods, storms, cyclones, blazes, earthquake, instability, etc., are experienced when the body is pricked: • Declining business culture, hike in prices, deserted shopping malls and lack of basic commodities, if the naval is pricked: • Malefics conjunct with Magha result in flowers, timber, firewood, furniture, real-estate, vegetable and fruit markets becoming dicey: • When Shlesha is pricked by malefics, crops and other agricultural products face scarcity. this year, Mars will be transiting in Krittika, Rohini causing blazes, instability, accidents and unequal distribution of rains. The moment when the sun enters Ardra nakshatra, is the most important step to observe for AstroMeteorological effects. this year, this is going to happen on June 22, 04 33 hrs. in Vrisha lagna. the chart reveals: Mars in 6/8 relation with Saturn & Rahu, Tithi 14, Anuradha and most of the planets in a close vicinity of the sun, may cause uneven distribution of rains and trouble because of fewer availability of drinking water. price index may uproar. Partial Lunar Eclipse, April 26, 2013 Let us calculate • Purnima ends 01 27 hrs when the Sun & The Moon obtain the same longitude. • The then Sun- Rahu =168°55’ 31’’(Vyagu Arka or VA) falling in even Pada of the zodiac, hence the VA is to be added to the end of Purnima. • The same is to be subtracted when the VA happens to be in an odd Pada. • An acute angle of VA = +11° 04’ 29’’ is to be treated as minutes and gives us 01 27 + 11 = 01 28 hrs. as the middle of eclipse. • During eclipse, the coverage of disc depends on the amount of VA and will remain about 1 angula (0.69’). • For total eclipse, the VA should be less than 9°, hence, this is a partial eclipse. • Starting and ending of eclipse is always calculated according to the then motion of the moon & the umbra or Bhoo Chhaya and calculated thus is about 27 minutes only. • Subtracting from and adding to a half of the duration (13.5 minutes) to the middle of eclipse gives

us (01 24 hrs & 01 51 hrs IST ) the starting and the ending of eclipse respectively. • The Punya Kaala of this eclipse will start on April 25, 16 24 hrs. IST. Grey Corner Notice to The Moon Today, Moon will be covered around 0.69’ appearing grey. Some siddhantic works (other than that of the sages) advocate that an eclipse having coverage less than 2-3 minutes of arc can not be witnessed, hence does not qualify to be mentioned in Ephemeris or Panchangas. In this modern age, when we are well-equipped with ultra modern observatories, this statement does not hold well. Shri Ketkar , in his magnum opus, i.e., Jyotirganitam, (19 th century) states clearly that an eclipse achieved through astrological calculation ,even if of the least coverage, should never be ignored. We find the oldest description of a total solar eclipse in the Rigveda 5.40.8. Where the mantra reveals that sage Atri, with the help of a sundial, duly fixed on ground, make people witness the eclipse. He successfully exhibited the beginning & the end of eclipse as well as the role of Rahu for a precise calculation. The Mantra is as follows. Atri Suryasya Chakshur Aadhat Swarbhaanor apmaaya adhukshat. A lunar eclipse immediately followed by a solar eclipse (in the same lunar month) gives rise to marimonial litigations, extra-marital relations, sexual offence and panic in society, states Varaha Mihira. Effects of eclipse are highly prominent in the region where the eclipse is seen. It is a matter of great satisfaction, soon after a lunar eclipse yesterday; a solar eclipse on May 10, 2013 is not visible in India. However it will last for 6 hours. ( 02 55-08 55 IST) Astrology in Vedas Reference Tettireeya Samhita, 3.4.11 Mitro Janan Yatayati Prajanan Mitro Dadhaar Pritvim Ut Dyam…… The Sun (Mitra) transmits ability to act as it is the sun who evaluates qualities of those born (Prajanan). The sun is the root cause of their worldly acts and controls celestial phenomena. The supreme entity is quite vigilant about all human Karmas (Krishti) are concerned. The Mantra reveals that a strong Sun at birth promises good health, wealth, progeny and status. Astrology in Vedas Reference Atharva Veda 4.39.8 Dyauh Dhenus Tasyah Adityo Vatsah…… The lower sky (Dyauh or lagna) is like a cow and the sun is like a calf. That cow through her calf disburses the fulfillment of aspirations (Sham), physical strength ( Oorjam) and worldly comforts (Kaamam) to the native. Simultaneously the strong calf confers longevity, high status (Prathamam) progeny (Prajam), vitality (Posham) and wealth (Rayim).

Reference Atharva Veda 1.1.1 Ye Trisaptah Pariyanti Vihwa Roopani Bibhratah.... Tri-3 x Saptah-7= 21, the pervasive form of Kaala, forms the sole basis of astrology. Sayana, a well known commentator of Vedas, opines that these 21 entities include: 12 lagnas + 9 Grahas. Or different units of time, when considered with reference of three stages of Kaala ( day, night, juncture of two), it reveals many phases of time and the placement of planets. Or 7 divisions x 3 lagnas ( lagna, Moon , Sun). Or 12 houses + 9 Planets. Astrology in Vedas Reference Rigveda 10.4.55.3 Aa Rodasi Aprinat ot madhyam Panch Devan Ritushah Sapta Sapta…… The ultimate reality, appointed five deities (Mars to Saturn) and two luminaries in the celestial sphere (Rodasi) to control all beings in different phases (Purodha) , according to their Karmas (Vivraten), which could clearly be known through Jyotisha. That is: Seven planets control us and disburse effects of our Karmas. Ravi Yogas emerge when the moon transits in specific nakshatras reckoned from that of the sun. Classics advocate that a Ravi Yoga can sterlise a number of blemishes existing at the moment or Muhurta. Birth within a Ravi Yoga assures success and good fortune. These are considered to be more powerful than Sarvarth Siddhi yogas. A Ravi Yoga increases the rate of success of conceiving even through IVF or IUI method. The Sarvarth Siddhi Yogas are formed when certain nakshatras coincide with a certain weekday. Amongst these, some are considered to be highly auspicious and are known as Amrit Siddhi (A S) Yogas.The AS Yogas are fruitful for remedial rituals, starting treatment and spiritual uplift. Person born during AS Yoga is blessed with longevity, fame, new invention, high knowledge and virtue. His work or invention guides and helps people for centuries. As an exception, AS Yogas, are strictly prohibited happening on: • Tuesday for Grah Pravesha; • Saturday for long journey; • Thursday for wedlock. On the preceded Saturday, a lady teacher of astrology, showing me a book written by a neoastrologer, wanted to remove her confusion regarding Kulakula Nakshatras. Unfortunately, there was a great confusion in the book to differentiate the Kula- Akula & Kulakula Nakshatras and the Kulakula Chakra. All sincere readers are hereby advised humbly to take some extra care while relying upon such modern text books where the subject matter is not clear even to the writers. May God bless the students? Out of 28 nakshatras (including Abhijit)

AKULA Nakshatras are: serial no. 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15,17,20 23,,26&28. (13) KULA nakshatras are: serial no. 2,4,8,10,12,14,16,18,21,24,27. (11) KULAKULA nakshatras are : serial no. 6,19,22,25. (4) These two topics pertain respectively to the Swara Shastra, a branch of astrology and to MUHURTA. The KULAKULA Chakra is a different entity and generally used to deduce the day of attack (Yatra), filing a court case and to challenge his rivals for a clear-cut victory upon them. KULA Chakra is formed when the following Tithi, nakshatra and weekday, all three coincide: • Ashwini, Krittika, Mrigshira,Magha, P.Phalguni, Chitra, Vishakha, Jyeshtha, P.Ashadha, Shravana & P. Bhadra;( any of these 11) • Tuesday or Friday; • 4,8,12,14,30 Tithis of any Paksha. • This indicates a clear defeat. AKULA Chakra is formed ,when the following Tithi, nakshatra and weekday, all three coincide at once: • 1,3,5,7,9,11,123,15 Tithis; • Sunday, Monday, Thursday & Saturday; • Bharani, Rohini, Punarvasu, Shlesha, U. Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, U. Ashadha, Dhanistha, U. Bhadra, Rewati. ( any of these 12) • This results in victory. Similarly, the KULAKULA Chakra is formed, ending on settlement: • 2,6,10 Tithis, Wednesday and Ardra, Moola, Abhijit, Shatbhisha all three together. About True Yuti & Samagama On May 09, 19:22 hrs. The Moon will occult Mars. At that time, declination of the two Grahas will be around 16° N and latitude of the Moon is around 0.33’N and that of Mars is 0°.11’ S. both transiting in Mesha at 07°. Disc of Moon 32’, disc of Mars 21’. Therefore, Moon totally covers Mars. This sort of conjunction is called as ‘Chandra Graha Samgama’. In simple words, Moon will be causing an effect of eclipse to Mars. The same will happen to Mercury (Samagama with Moon) on May 10, 00: 36 hrs. when their longitude is 22°45’ in Mesha, Declination 16°.5 N, latitude 0.25’ around. Disc of Moon 0.32’, disc of Mercury 10.9’. Thus Moon causes total eclipse to Mercury. The phenomenon with the Moon , is termed as Samagama, while the same between other planets (Mars to Saturn) is called true Yuti /planetary war.

This may cause reshuffle in southern states and drives away rains in rainy season. During Samagama with the Moon, the partner planet gains Cheshta Bala. This is a regular feature of our Ephemeris, published annually. On May 10,2013, there will be an annular solar eclipse too from 02 55 hrs. to 08 55 hrs. not visible in India. Contrary to the name, Panchakas consist of 4.5 nakshatras instead of 5. Starting from the middle of Dhanishta to Rewati, there are 4.5 nakshatras only truly the lunar transit in Kumbha & Meena. Panchakas are not prohibited in general. Certain five acts only are prohibited during Panchakas as follows: 1. Journey to south direction, 2.Storage of fire wood or fuel, 3. Cremation of a dead body, 4.construction of roof of a building, 5. Purchase or repair of household furniture. Otherwise auspicious acts are recommended to perform during Panchakas. Rishis recommend three ( Dhanishta, U. Bhadra & Rewati) out of five even for marriage. Interesting to know: • Waxing Moon or a strong Venus in 12, disburses comfort of a big house/ kothi. • Such Venus falling in good navamsha (except that of Saturn) confers handsome amount of property. • Sun with mercury in any house or with any benefic in 12: native enjoys parental property either goodwill or immovable.. • Moon in 12 : comforts of own vehicles. • Sun or Moon in 2 or 12 houses : tension/ trouble because of neighbors. • Moon in 12 : loyal and deep responsible towards family and its tradition. All Yogas above-mentioned, make the native honest, determined and dedicated to his work without consideration of what he gets back. How to locate mark on body through horoscope: Following pair of planets in a rashi, indicates mark (since birth or sustained later) on the limb pertaining to the house with that rashi: • Sun & Moon; • Sun & Mars; • Saturn & Rahu; • Mercury with any planet. • Similarly, Mars with Moon or Jupiter or Venus; • Rahu with Jup/Venus. Interested people may test the rule by applying it to some actual horoscopes. Ramal Jyotisha has its origin in India Contrary to a common belief, Arabs learnt this method of Prashna from Indians around 9th century when Arabs and Indians were mutually exchanging knowledge of astrology and Prashna Vichar through Taazik was also in vogue. In ancient India, The Ramal method was known as Paashak (Paasa or dice of gambling) Paddhati as cited in Garg Samhita. Two Sanskrit works written by Bhattotpala and Shripati on Paashak astrology are also listed in an

authentic catalogue of Indology. In The Garg Samhita 235 shlokas describe clearly the Paashak or Ramal system of Prashna establishing it as an age-old method of prediction. Later, this system was elucidated by Acharya Ramal and popularized by ParamSukha Upadhyaya (17 th century) in his Sanskrit work, viz., Ramal Navaratnam. The method exhibits great resemblance with Tarot method. Several books on this system are available at Patna, Bihar in the Khudabakhsh Library.Other Sanskrit classics on Paashak are: Paashakavali (Gupta dynasty rule) , Ramalsaara by Sitaram (1314 AD) Ramalamrita (1745 AD) Ramalachintamani (1731AD) , Ramalashstra by Meghvijay Gani ( author of Hasta Sanjeevanam). Generally the house lord resting in the 12 th from its own rashi weakens the house, it is believed. Here are some result-oriented exceptions giving highly positive effects: • Lagna lord in 12; • II lord in 1; • III lord in 2; • IV lord in 3; • V lord in 4; • X lord in 9; • XI lord in 10. We should know it? Neelkanth, author of Tazik Neelkanthi and Ram Devajna, writer of Muhurta Chintamani were real brothers. Manasagari has been written by Manasagar, a Jain saint. The famous work of Ganit Jyotisha namely Leelavati has been written in an interactive manner between Bhaskaracharya and his wife Leelavati. She was not his daughter as many people advocate. Abdul Rahim Khankhana (known as Rahim, a Hindi poet) was a good scholar of Sanskrit and Jyotisha too. He wrote a Jyotish book, viz., Kheta Koutukam. Ganesha Devajna wrote his magnum opus namely Graha Laaghava on Siddhanta Jyotisha at his age of 17. Sage Lagadha, author of Vedanga Jyotisha did his practical observation of celestial sphere somewhere around Baramula and Leh in J&K state, India situated 34°N 54’ latitude. The Vedanga Jyotisha reveals it. About the life before life Find out stronger between Sun and Moon; Decide the Drekkaana rashi where the stronger one is placed at birth; This Drekkaan lord gives clue of our past life as follows: Jupiter, Moon & Venus: exalted Karmas, a good human being and having insight, praiseworthy service to mankind. Such people bring forward their knowledge obtained in past birth. Other Grahas : ordinary being or coming from other Yonis. This lord falling close to its exaltation confirms their exalted status in the past life proportionally

declining up to its Neecha rashi. Let us know it: • Sage Parashara sermonized his Hora Shastra at Badarikashram, now known as Badarinath, Uttarakhand state, India. His parents’ names are Shakti & Kaali. •A number of hymns of Rigveda were cited & compiled in Punjab. •Varah Mihira compiled his Granthas in Ujjayini and Indraprastha (MP and Delhi). •PrathuYasha, son of Varah Mihira, author of Horasaara & Shatpanchashika, Suryanarayan Vyas also belong to Ujjayini. •Ganesha of Graha Laaghav( at age 13), Ganesh Kavi of Jatakalankar, Shankar Balakrishna Dixit, Vekatesh Ketkar ( father of modern Indian Siddhanta Jyotish), Lokmanya Tilak, Ram devajna of Muhurta Chintamani, Neelkanth of Tazik Neelkanthi belong to Maharashtra. •Yavanacharya of Vriddha Yavan Jataka and Kalyan Verma of Saaravali wrote some where in Sourashtra (Gujrat). •AryaBhat , 476 AD (not Aryabhatt) wrote his Ganita Jyotish (Aryabhateeyam) at Kusumpur now Patna, Bihar. •Brahmagupta , 598 AD(authored Khandkhadya, Siddhanta Jyotish at age 30) belongs to Punjab. •Makarand (Author of Makarand Sarini belongs to Varanasi, Keshav to Goa, Bapudev Shastri to Pune, Sudhakar Dwivedi to Banaras. Akshaya Trtiya, in no way, connects to Holy Ganga as someone writes here on the facebook. Holy Ganga descended to earth on Jyeshtha Shukla 10 Tithi which is known as Ganga Dussahara or Ganga Jyanti. Tithi in houses : An efficient tool for assessing the house effect Subtract longitude of the sun from the lagna and convert remainder in degrees. Divide the same by 12 and the quotient plus one gives the Tithi current in house. Tithis for subsequent houses can easily be obtained by adding 2.5 tithi to the tithi in lagna. Tithis 4,9,14 and 30 damage the good of the house. However these tithis in 6,12 houses are mediocre and cause trouble in 8. Tithis in an opposing house corresponds to the same tithi of another half of the lunar month. For example, lagna 09 04°56’- sun 09 11°15’= 11 23°41’ or 353°41’ divided by 12 , quotient 29+ 1= 30 or Amavasya is present in lagna causing great loss of good effects of the chart. Purnima will be in the opposing VII house. Shukla 3 in II, Shukla 5 in III, 7 in IV and so on. The corresponding Krishna Tithi will operate respectively in houses VIII, IX and X. this is not an example anyway relating to any living native. Practical use of Nisarga Bal: Garg and Parashara state that the quantum of loss indicated by a weak planet appears as follows: When a planet is adversely disposed, its own traits are progressively diminished to an extent twice as that of the preceding planet in Nisarga Bal order. In simple words, if a deficit done by Saturn is measured as 1 unit, then a weak Mars commits damage in 2 units and so on. It can be expressed thus: Saturn curtails 1, Mars-2, Mercury-4, Jupiter-8, Venus-16, Moon-32, Sun-64 units of good effect of the house owned and occupied. Therefore, Sun and Moon weakly disposed diminish a lot of good of the chart in question. A list of blemishes given by Parashara in several concluding chapters of BPHS is fairly prepared on the above-mentioned rule. A native or an astrologer can only ignore those blemishes at his own

peril. It would be interesting to know that the Aldebaran (principal star or Yoga Tara of Rohini Mandal) is a red-orange coloured star. It is situated at the left eye corner of Vrisha (the Ox as the Vrisha Rashi region appears in the sky), thirty times bigger than the Sun and around 65 light years or about 20 parsec away from us (1 Parsec=3.26 light years) while the nearest star, our Sun is 8.3 light minutes (not years) away. Another important star of Rohini region, Beta Tauri (Agni) is a white star of lesser magnitude and falls at the top of the right horn of Vrisha. The Krittika cluster is situated at the neck of the Vrisha and the Bharani mandala is on the hump of the Vrisha. Similar to The Vajra Yoga (scheduled under Nabhas yogas), The Peepilika (an ant) yoga emerge when the natural malefic occupy houses 3 and 9, while natural benefics are in houses 6 and 12. The Gart (a pit) yoga is formed when benefics in houses 3 & 9 and malefic in 6 &12. These two confer lack of success. Similarly, natural benefics in 5 &11 and natural malefic in 2 & 8 form the Nadi (a river) yoga, while the Nada (a large river) yoga occurs when the planetary placement is reversed. These two result in good fortune, name and solid contribution to the society, state Yavancharya, one of the founders of astrology. Rahu ketu alone do not form the yoga. Am I a good orator? In the II house: House of speech Natural benefic & malefic together make the native talkative, unable to present his opinion in brief, at times speaking irrelevant. hence, not an impressive speaker. On the other hand, benefic in II, receiving aspect from another benefic makes a man a good debater as well as an impressive orator. The result is the same when Vargas of Shubh planets happen to be in the II house. Mercury Moon and Mars establishing any sort of relation (out of four stated by Parashara) relation also prompt the ability to be a good speaker. rules being given here, cited in the classics and are to be tested by readers. Will I light the pyre of my parent (give Mukhagni) or perform last rituals (Tarpana Pinda daana) for them? Find The Sun (father) or The Moon (mother), in his lagna kundali, whether it occupies a Kendra in a Chara rashi. Or the IV( mother) or X (father) lord rests in the invisible half of the lagna chart. If yes, the answer is negative. you are supposed to remain absent at the end of your parent (as specified above) or due to reasons, you are not going to perform the last rituals. How to decide a Maaraka planet? Of the following, one in a weak disposition can become a primary Maaraka: 1. VIII lord, 2. Occupants of the VIII, 3. Planet aspecting the VIII, 4. Saturn, 5. Gulika, 6. Lord of the 22 nd drekkana, 7. Associate of the above, 8. Dispositor in rashi & navamsha of the above,

9. Rahu. 2. How to decide a Maaraka planet? Similarly, amongst the following, the strongest in maleficence becomes a Maaraka: 1. Lords of the 2 &7 and malefic placed therein, 2. Planets associated with the above, 3. The lord of 12, 4. Lord of 6 when the sixth house is occupied by several malefics. A weak Saturn associated with these becomes a significant Maaraka. A planet can qualify to obtain greater maleficence from association or its own blemished disposition, i.e., Ashubha Panchaka, states Parahara. Day before yesterday, a matured student of Jyotish put me under great confusion and I was shocked to see the following statement he noted down from the web: ‘The time between two consecutive sun rises is the Solar day and the time between two consecutive moon rises is Lunar Day or Tithi’. Here is the fact: • The span of time strictly falling between the two consecutive sunrises is a Saavan day or Bhoomisaavan day. Here the word Saavan means- a day pertaining to the Savan-Yajna or daily rituals. One year consists of 365.25 Saavan days. • The period in which the sun transits one degree of the zodiac is termed as Solar day. One solar year precisely contains 360 Solar days which consumes 365.25 Saavan days to complete one full cycle of the zodiac. • Lunar day (Chandra Din) or Tithi, in no way maintains relation with the moon rise. The duration of Tithi strictly is a period during which the moon traverses 12 degrees of zodiac. Its extension varies because of the rate of motion of the moon from 26 hours 47 minutes to 19 hours 59 minutes causing Tithi Kshaya and Tithi Vriddhi. One Chandra year consists of 354.36 Saavan days. • However, the term ‘lunar day’ is no more in practical astrological use as it is always more than 24 hours (24 h 48 m 45.83 s on its highest side). To mitigate the blemish at birth : Despite the lagna disposition appearing favourable, Doshas at birth (as stated by Parashara) manifest lack of success. Sages recommend certain remedies to keep the adverse effect under check. Until the proper Shanti Karma is performed, the native should donate food grains, useful cloth, fruits and marginal cash on his birthday every year. And on the same day, he should also do Yajna with Ghee and green stems of grass (Doorva) duly dipped in Ghee. (108 Aahuti) On the very day, the native should consume moderate quantity of two meals avoiding any over and frequent eating. Contd. To mitigate the blemish at birth, (until the Shanti karma is done) one should recite daily and observe the following:

1. Prayer to Lord Ganesha; 2. Purusha Suktam (16 mantras from the Yajurveda); 3. Shree Suktam (16 mantars from the Rigveda); 4. Invocation to 9 planet gods; 5. Pouring holy water upon Lord Shiva chanting any Shiva mantra; 6. Caring for trees, plants including Basil (Tulasi); 7. Avoiding seven vices (Sapta Vyasana) and violence to all creatures. A special technique for Dasha effects : Divide the total tenure of a dasha by 12 and result (simply treat the number of dasha years as bhukti months) indicates the span of one bhukti of a house starting from the house occupied by the dasha lord in the native’s chart. The effect of bhukti will come forth in this manner1.Highly benevolent effects ensue when the bhukti happens to be in an auspicious house from lagna and is occupied by benevolent planet(s) or obtains good number of benefic rekha in Samudaya AV. 2.A rashi attaining lesser rekhas or inhabited by weak planets in an inauspicious house, reduces the good effect. Dasha Phal from Dasha Vaahan (vehicle) : Count from the natal moon’s nakshatra upto the nakashatra operative at the beginning of dasha or bhukti. Divide the number by 9. The remainder indicates the serial number of Vaahan of the dasha lord. It manifests as follows: 1.Donkey-Litigation, dispute or confrontation; 2.Horse- journey, wisdom, right decisions; 3. Elephant- gains, achievements; 4. Buffalo- disease; 5.Jackal- fear, depression; 6. Lion- victory, success; 7. Crow- worries; 8.Peacock- wealth; 9.Swan- victory. From the house occupied by The Sun in the Sudarshan Chakra, malefic (s) indicate excessive trouble for the native's father (or for alike relations) in that year. Similarly, malafics in the fourth from a Shthira Kaaraka manifest troubles to the relative represented by that Kaaraka. In the natal chart, weak malefic (s) in the ninth house reduce the comforts arising from native's father. This fairly relates to mutual cosmic or Karmic relation among parents and progeny. Soon It will be revealed without any breach of rules stated in classics,in our next book. i.e., Jaimini Mukta. Mutual Placement of Dasha and Bhukti lords By the relative placement of DL & BL, the prosperity of the same numbered house from lagna is assured during the span of dasha. For example, from the dasha lord, bhukti lord occupying the house 2, the effects of house 2 from lagna are enhanced. DL & BL mutually falling in 6, 8, 12, give rise to troubles, disease, hurdles and loss. While in Kendra or trikona or 3, 11 they lead to benevolence.

this is the key point of Dashaphala Adhyaya of BPHS. Someone desires to know: 1. The nakshatra occupied by Sun or Moon during their particular eclipse day is considered to be inauspicious. 2. Similarly, three preceding and following nakshatras are also obtaining blemish of eclipse. Any of these falling in a house or lagna curtails good of the house. 3. The Moon in lagna is not much extolled by Parashara. However, the malefic effect of this declines up to some extent when the Moon is in Vrisha or Karka. It manifests imbalance in thoughts. 4. The major part of good of lagna is lost when it falls in the malefic Vargas. Divisional charts are referred here to. 5. Saravali and Varah Mihira reveal that birth on a day particularly during natural calamity like excessive rains, earth quake, tsunami leads to troubles. 6. Deep Yuti or conjunction between two planets or a planet and nakshatra is determined on the basis of their longitudes and the Shara (latitude). During deep Yuti, both transits at the same longitude as well as they obtain the same or almost same latitude. Daily latitude of planets and the same of nakshatras are always mentioned in a standard Ephemeris.

The effects of a dasha are greater when a natal retrograde planet moves direct during its dasha. The planet direct at birth also produces greater results when it becomes retrograde in its dasha. An exalted planet associated with another neutral planet may manifest chronic disease during its dasha. When the bhukti lord, transits in its neecha, inimical rashi or combust, the good of dasha bhukti considerably declines. And the same comes forth during its retrogression and transit in a favourable rashi, i.e. Shubha Panchaka. Samkranti Time : An Easy way To assess Pick up the time of Samkranti and just increase the same by 6 hours 09 minutes. The time, thus achieved is the time of the same Samkranti in the following year showing a minor variation limited to 1 or 2 minutes. For instance, Mithuna Samkranti in 2012 happened on June 14, 22:45 hrs. By adding the above value, we get 28:54 hrs. or 04: 54 A M on June 15, 2013. In fact, the Sun is going to enter Mithuna rashi on the same date exactly at 04:56 A M. This minor difference is caused by a slight difference usually occurring in Sun’s motion and in the size of its disc every year. About the planetary war or deep conjunction Conjunction between any two planets (except moon) is called Yuti. The Yuti is also known as planetary war. There are five sorts of Yuti: 1. Bheda Yuti – it happens when two planets transit at the very same longitude as well as they obtain the same or almost same latitude (Sahra-angular distance from ecliptic either north or south of it) 2. Ullekha Yuti or touching edges of discs- transiting on the same longitude, two planets obtain

Shara equal to a half of the sum of their disc extension. Disc value of planets is here: Sun & Moon- 32’, Mars-21’, Mercury- 11’ Jupiter- 47’, Venus 60’ Saturn 19.5’. 3. Apsavya Yuti- two planets on the same longitude having difference in their Shara limited to 1 degree. 4. Anshumard or mixing of their rays- two planets equal in longitude having Shara greater than a half of the summed up value of their discs. 5. Ordinary Yuti- two planets obtain the same longitude only without consideration of Shara. Yuti 1-4 are termed as deep Yuti or planetary war. any of the five planets from Mars falling in Yuti with Moon is called Samaagama or hugging. Please refer to an inquiry: Krantisaamya is a phenomenon when the kranti (declination) of two luminaries is equal. In order to fix the same without calculation, I shall post it later as this question is there in the examination paper of an institution. Please wait for a while. Is my spouse lucky for me? Answer is affirmative when: • The VII lord or Jupiter placed in Shubha Panchaka is associated with the XI lord. • The VII lord or Jupiter in IX or establishes a relation with the IX lord. • The above two are not associated with the 8,12 lords. • These two are associated with the lagna lord or its navamsha lord. • Any two of the Jupiter, Venus and the VII lord are in a Kendra, trikona or 3,6,11 houses in a strong rashi or navamsha. the above yogas also manifest gain from associates of opposite sex.

Special lagnas : Special lagnas like Bhava, Hora, Ghati, Vighati and the natal lagna remain the same at sunrise. Starting from the sun sign, 12 Bhava lagnas rise one after the other at intervals of 2 hours each in their natural rashi order. Similarly, the Hora lagna rises at intervals of 1 hour, Ghati lagna at 24 minutes (1 ghati) and the Vighati lagna at intervals of 2 minutes (5 pala). Within a span of one sunrise to the next, these lagnas are numbered thus: Bhava lagnas-12, Hora lagnas-24, Ghati lagnas- 60, Vighati lagnas- 720. No mention that the number of rising or natal lagnas is also 12. Contd.

To calculate special lagnas Ishta Kaala or epoch= given time- sunrise time. Bhava lagna Assume one half of the hours of Ishta kaala as rashi and one fourth of the minutes as degrees. Add this to the longitude of the Sun at sunrise. Example: today on June 06, 08:30 hrs. at Delhi, Given time 08:30- sunrise 05 :27= 03 :03. One half of the hours =1.5 rashi, one fourth of minutes =

0.75 degree. Sun at sunrise = 01:21:24:48. Adding these values = 03:07°:09’:48’’= Bhava lagna. Contd. Alert: readers are hereby cautioned not to rely blindly up on the computer programs as great difference appears in the value of these lagnas even if these are claimed to be the most correct. I don’t know what method they adopt for calculation. Hora Lagna To know the Hora lagna, the Ishta Kaala is again required. Assume hours of epoch (Ishta kaala) as rashis and a half of minutes as degrees. Add the value to the Sun’s longitude. The result would be the Hora lagna for the moment. In our previous example, Ishata kaala in hours and minutes is : 03:03. Hence, hours are assumed as rashis 03 and minutues 03/2 or 1°30’ are degrees. By adding this to the Sun (01 21°24’ 48’’), we get 04 22°54’ 48’’ and this is the Hora lagna for the moment, i.e., June 06, 2013, 08 30 hrs, Delhi. Ghati lagna Convert the Ishta kaala into minutes and multiply the same by 1.25. Add the product (in degrees) to the Sun. Ref. previous example: Ishata kaal=03h 03 minutes or 183 minutes x 1.25=228.75 degrees or 07 rashis. 18° 45’. By adding this to the Sun’s longitude (01 21°24’ 48’’) for the day, we get 09 10°09’ 48’’, i.e. the Ghati lagna for the epoch. Vighati lagna Multiply the Ishta kaal in minutes by 15. Add the product in degrees to the Sun. The result is the Vighati lagna for the moment. Ref. previous example: Ishta kaal in minutes =183 x 15 = 2745 degrees or 91 rashi 15° or 07 rashi 15° (diminishing multiples of 12 from rashis) + Sun 01 21° 24’ 48’’= 09 06° 24’ 48’’ is the Vighati lagna. Charts of these Special lagnas are prepared similarly as we do the natal lagna. All planets should be posted in the same rashi that they occupy in the natal chart. This all is strictly in accordance with the rules stipulated by sages. Progeny assured even if the house 5 or other significations of progeny are weak Following are the dispositions assuring any way the progeny: 1. Gulika & moon conjunct or aspect mutually. 2. Mars in any house aspects moon. 3. The V lord and Gulika are related mutually. 4. Navamsha lords of Gulika & moon establish a relation. 5. Gulika in Kendra, trikona or Upachaya houses and its lord connects to the house 5.

Is this person is clever? In the following dispositions, native may revoke his words and promises: 1. Moon in lagna other than karka and vrisha; 2. Venus renders full aspect to lagna; 3. Venus associates lagna or its lord; 4. Saturn in Kendra in a weak rashi; 5. Mars and mercury aspect moon; 6. And all the above have no relation with Jupiter. What does your birth nakshatra (of natal moon) speak? There are 12 keywords for 12 equal segments of nakshatra tenure, i.e. 13° 20’ / 12= 1° 06’ 40’’ each. Readers may test the wisdom of our sages. Is there any step brother or sister of mine? Following combinations show likelihood of this: • Lord of 3 associates with malefic and the strong II lord in house 8; • Lord of 2 rests in Trika and the III house is occupied by malefic; • Lord of 2 rests in Trika and Mars accompanies malefic; • Mars and Venus or Mars and Moon establish mutually a strong relation. We should know it: • Panini, the great grammarian of Sanskrit died because of a lion’s attack. • Jaimini, who handed down the Jaimini Sutram of predictive Astrology, was assassinated by a haunted elephant. • Pingala Muni, father of Chhanda, one of the Vedanga, was killed by a crocodile while he was bathing on a sea beach. • Kalidaasa, the great Sanskrit poet died in Srilanka. His Samadhi still exists there.

• Sage Parashara was in love of Satayvati and they were the parents of Veda Vyasa. • Sage Parashara’s parents were e.g., Shaktidhar and Kaali. • Varaha Mihira was fallen in love with Khana, a Bengali astrologer. • Varaha Mihira lived for 105 years. During rainy season, to decide the day of showers, please check the following: • The rising lagna for the moment when Sun enters Ardra. This forms the basis of rains in the rainy season. Yogas indicating waterfall around the locality are as follows: • This phenomenon happening after sunset is a good sign for rains for the locality in question. • Slight raining at the time of Ardra-pravesha inspires good amount of rains; • The then moon in 4.6.7.8.10.11.12 rashis. These are watery rashis; • Venus and moon together; • Jupiter and mercury in watery rashis; • Strong moon free from any malefic aspect; • Benefic planets close in zodiac; • Mars in karka or behind the sun; contd. Dr. Soumya Kumar, ref. planetary war Except Venus, any of 5 planets (Mars to Saturn) disburses inauspicious effects to the native. It is considered to be weak in strength instead of having obtained good amount of Shadbal and may damage the principal of the house occupied as well as the basic trait of it, i.e., Mars- patience, Mercury-wisdom & speech etc. During rainy season, to decide the day of showers, contd. • Venus moon in opposition; • Moon Saturn in mutual 5,7,9 houses; • Sun mercury are close; • Sun does not transit between venus and mercury; • Waxing moon in lagna; • Moon ,free from malefic connection, in a Kendra or trikona; • All benefic planets are close in rashis or in a rashi. This year, sun enters Ardra on June 22, 04 34 hrs. at night in Vrisha lagna having Venus, Jupiter, Mercury in Mithuna. Mercury and Venus are on the same degree. Moon in a watery rashi. Mars is behind the sun. Waxing moon (sudi 13) in Kendra and sun does not transit between mercury and Venus. This all confirms a worst situation because of heavy rains or flood as well as uneven distribution of celestial water. Majority of planets is in watery rashis and are falling in North and North-west direction in the chart manifesting heavy rains in the Indian region falling in the same direction for this rainy season. Tithi 13 also confirms a flood situation showing early knocking Monsoon. Easy money is assured when: • The navamsha lord of the X lord establishes relation with the XI lord; • From moon, benefic planets in 3,6,10.11; • The II lord in Kendra and the XI lord is strong; • Mercury in II aspected by Jupiter or venus; • Several malefic in XI in a strong rashi; • Exalted or falling in Shubha panchaka, the Ii lord in 9, 10,11;

• Moon in 10, Saturn in 11, mars or mercury in 2, sun and venus in 4 (any two of these fulfill) • Mercury and venus mutually related in 2. Following are some canons indicating the field of profession/ work as well as grade of success: • The X lord; • Dispositor of it in navamsha; • The navamsha lord of the lord of X; • Strongest planet happening to be in the X; • Atama karaka and its navamsha lord; • Lord of rashi occurring more frequently in several divisions at the tenth cusp. • The above combinations are to be checked in lagna or from moon, whichever is stronger. In the Amitabh Bachchan’s chart, the X from the moon (04 04° 25') having Simha rashi in Hora, Drekkaana and Saptmansha. The lord of Simha, the Sun is AK and that also falls in Simha navamsha, hence, Sun attains utmost importance in this regard. Parashara states: Suryat Aoushadha panyen--- vinod margat. Needs no mention that the native had worked as a medical representative for years in a Kolkata based company and then shifted to the cine world (Vinod Marga). Super Moon: We know that the point of a planet’s orbit happening to be at the least distance from our Earth is called Perigee. This is the point where planet’s disc looks bigger as seen from Earth. On the 23 rd June, 2013, 16 30 hrs. Moon will be very close to earth looking bigger than its normal disc. This phenomenon is known as Super Moon in western astrology. On the occasion, the moon moves faster (about 15° a day) than its normal motion (around 13° a day). A planet moving nearer to Earth obtains greater amount of rays, considered more manifesting, scoring good amount of Chesta Bal with bright rays, hence, it is a matter o f cheering up for people who are healthy at mind. This is not much suitable for those who are obsessive. In your spouse’s chart, whether the Excessive malefic effect: • On lagna- disorder in her body system. • On 5 or 9 houses- disorder in Fallopian tube, ovulation. • On houses 7, 8, disorder in uterus. • On the houses 3, 6, 10, 11, hormonal imbalance. • Mars, Jupiter and Moon together or they are weak in disposition, • Strong lord of 8 in house 8 only, • In house 8, Mercury and Moon are together. • Malefic in houses 2,8,12. If yes, surrogacy could be successful,when husband’s chart obtains any of the following: • Venus aspects any trikona (1, 5, 9) house falling in navamsha of Venus. • Karka navamsha in trikona aspected by moon. • Rashi 10 or 11 in house 5 and moon aspects it. • Majority of vargas in house 5 obtains that of mercury and the moon renders aspect to 5. • Similarly a majority of vargas in Karka and the house 5 is aspected by sun and Venus. • Mercury, moon and the fifth lord happening to be in Saturn’s navamsha. Best of Luck.

An Astrologer: The eighteenth Cow At the time of his heavenly abode, a Guru having 17 cows in his shed asks his 3 disciples to share his cows in this proportion: 1/2, 1/3 & 1/9 Finding difficult to attain the said proportion (number 17 is not divisible in the said proportion) they go eventually to an astrologer to resolve the problem. The astrologer adds one cow from his own shed and thus achieves the total number of cows, i.e., 18. Now astrologer asks students to take their stipulated share and the mystery is resolved. Look how18/2= 9 for one, 18/3= 6 for the second one and 1/9=2 for the last student totaling 17 cows. Having solved the problem, he returns back to his place with his own one cow added earlier. An astrologer, in his practice, is like the eighteenth cow neither getting involved much nor being indifferent to his client. Adhika Maasa: A simple technique If the Sun’s Samkranti happens in Krishna paksha on any tithi, Triteeya to Panchami, just note down that lunar month. The succeeding month in the next year will appear as Adhika Maasa. For example, in 2014, Sun enters Mithuna rashi on the Krishna Triteeya in Jyeshtha, hence, the following month, i.e., Ashaadha will be an Adhika or intercalary month in 2015. • The Magha month does normally remain neither Adhika nor Kshaya. • Kartika falls under dual category, sometimes Adhika as well as Kshaya. • Eight months from Phalguna to Ashwin are regular or nitya Adhika. • Margshirsha and Paush can remain Kshaya only. • In the year of Kshaya month, two Adhika months happen within 3 months on its both side as a matter of rule. • Kshaya month can not be inferred without precise calculation. In the 21st & 22nd century of Vikram samvat, possible Kshaya months are: 2085 Vikrami- Margshirsha, 2104- Margshirsha, 2123- Paush, 2169- Margshirsha, 2188- Paush. A Kshaya month always accrues major changes on the globe. Before Ashtakoota Milan Sages provide a list of check-points before entering Ashtakoota Milan. Following is the list where qualities are listed in their descending order of merit1. Kulam- lineage, family background along with the bringing up of the partner; 2. Sheelam- nature, temperament, attitude towards life and society and character; 3. Sanathata- parents or guardians and their culture; 4. Vittam- regular income or ability to enhance or generate as required; 5. Vidya- civic sense, professional qualification and aptitude to learn more from life; 6. Vapuh- body, physical appearance, attractive personality; 7. Vayah- compatibility between ages of the two. It is said: Kulam cha Sheelam cha Sanathtam cha Vittam cha Vidyam cha Vapur Vayas cha.

Having ensured the above 7 factors, one should proceed for Ashta Koota Milan as recommended by sages. Why does the Kulam supersede all? please think of it. Contd. After The Ashtakoota Milan Having deduced the all seven factors (posted yesterday) and the Ashta Koota Milan, an intelligent astrologer never ignores to check the following five elements in the chats of the two: Pancha Paanigrahe Doshah Varjneeya Prayatnath Daridryam Maranam Vyadhi Paunschalyam Anpatyata. 1. Daridryam-financial crunch or miserly attitude; 2. Maranam- sudden accident or death; 3. Vyadhi- disease; 4. Paunschalyam-attraction or indulgence in extra-marital affair; 5. Anpatyata-infertility or other alike disorder. Kundali Milan or the compatibility-check is not over until the above three stages are observed, i.e., Kuladi seven, Ashtakoota and Daridratadi five. About Bhakoota An inauspicious Bhakoota is obtained when Rashis are mutually falling in: a.2/12 - partner to be more and more demanding; b. 5/9- disorder in having progeny; c. 6/8- accident or agony. Following are considered to be auspicious Bhkoota in their merit order: a. 3/11, b. 4/10,c. 1/7. d. the same rashi or nakshatra having no Nadi dosha, However, following mutual combinations result in greater differences in opinion: 1. Mesha &Karka; 2. Vrisha & Simha; 3. Mithuna &Mina; 4. Kanya & Dhanu; 5.Tula & Makara; 6.Kumbha & Vrishchika. Yesterday, I have described Yogas formed by benefic planets resting in the Vivaha lagna. Similarly, yogas formed by a malefic are also mentioned in Vivaha Patal as follows: • Sun in lagna- Vyala (snake) yoga, result- ignored at in-law’s place. • Mars- Rasatala yoga (highly declined to earth), result- desertion in marital life. • Saturn- Kshaya yoga (loss), result- hand to mouth. • Rahu- Andha ( blind), result- obsession, imbalance in thoughts. • Ketu- Antya (back-bencher), result- sort of insanity. • Malefic associated with other malefic(s)- mixed effects of all associates. Next Post: an auspicious lagna fixed intelligently loses its good, when? An auspicious lagna for marriage loses its good: • Even if, it is fixed intelligently but does not obtain navamsha- shuddhi. It is said that a blemish arising from the Navamsha in any lagna of marriage drives away all good of that like a wolf does the same to the herd of sheepNavamsha Doshah Sakalam Gunaogham Dhruvam Nihanti iva Vrikah Ajasamgham. • Following is the list of navamsha in any lagna (at marriage, i.e., the moment of Kanya daana or Phere) with their effects : Mesha navamsha- dissatisfaction, inclination to separation; Vrisha- inclined to extra marital relation; Mithuna-harmony; Karka-aspiring liberation, uncontrolled independence in actions; Simha-lack of compatibility between the two families; Kanya-wealth, prosperity, progeny; Tula- wealth, prosperity, progeny; Vrishchika-adamancy, irrational demands; Dhanu I half- respect, wealth and peace; Dhanu II half- disease, differences for reasons; Makara- no mutual respect, financial crunch; Kumbha-inhuman behavior; Meena- fortune, worldly comforts. As I promised to write on Krantisaamya fixation without calculation: Krantisaamya or Mahapaata can only occur on the days coinciding with Yogas- Shoola & Ganda or sometimes Vriddhi and Shubha & Shukla depending on the amount of declination of two luminaries. For example, on July 31, 2013 Ganda yoga ends at 07:55 hrs and Krantisaamya starts on 07 :48 hrs on the same day ending at 19:48 hrs. ( for 12 hours). Adding a half of its total duration (6 hours) to the starting time ,we get the moment when Kranti of the two is precisely equal. Its coordinates are as follows: At 07 :48 hrs. - decli Sun-18:15N, mon-17:43 N At 13 :48 hrs. respectively 18:11N 18:11 N At 20:48 hrs. Sun- 18:07 N, Mon-18:40 N For information, at 13:48, the sayan sum of two luminaries is 06:06°35’( 6.5 degrees more than 180

degrees). Hence, the method described in Muhurta Chintamani , based on nirayan sum of longitudes of the two luminaries is crude. However, the statement of Surya Siddhanta, up to extent, holds good even after centuries, i.e., karantisaamya is at its maximum when the sayan longitudes of the Sun and the Moon obtain 180° or 360°. About Godhooli Lagna This lagna extends 48-48 minutes both sides of the sunset and is believed to be all-time auspicious. On the contrary, the Godhooli is auspicious only under the following conditions: • Sages permit to perform marriage only when any other lagna suitable astrologically is not available. • Godhooli does not fructify, if any recommended lagna is ignored. It is said: Lagne Vishuddhe sati Veeryayukte Godhoolikam naiva Phalam Vadanti. Even if, another lagna is not available, its all good effects are gone, when: • The Moon is in 1, 6, 8 houses (in marriage lagna). • On the day of Krantisaamya; • On Saturdays and Thursdays as the lagna earns Kulikadi Dosha. In order to avoid the above blemish of Godhooli, one must do the rituals in this manner: • On Thursday, the Kanyadaan should be performed after the sunset only; • On Saturday, the Kanyadaan is to be done before sunset only; • On both days, rest of the rituals could be continued. Regarding Ashtakoota Marks obtained in Ashtakoota are all-time important. It is a must to check while you do a KundaliMilan. No Guna obtained in a Koota may lead the couple to • Varna- geographical separation, disturbed pregnancy, no mutual tuning in behavior. • Vasya- adamancy, irrational anger, lack of harmony. Two guna obtained here repairs the Varnadosha. • Tara- less wealth, progeny and over all comforts. Till Tara, out of 6 Guna, the match should obtain 50% at least. Full Gunas here repair the blemish of above 2. • Yoni- lack of mutual attraction, lacking affection with the passage of time. Full marks here compensate all three above. • Grah-Maitri- acute difference in opinion, indifferent behavior of children, Till this Koota, 7-8 Gunas drive away the evil of above four. • Gana- disaster in married life, if no 7-8 Guna obtained till Graha /maîtri as described above. Till this point, total Guna number should be 10-11. • Bhakoota- if Graha Maitri scores full Guna, this is automatically amended. Im simple words, Graha Maitri and Bhakoota mutually correct each other. • Out of above seven, every succeeding Koota repairs Dosha of the preceded one. • Nadi- it supersedes all seven Koota. The match scoring zero in Nadi Koota abolishes all good of match making. Geographical, mental, legal or natural separation, sooner or later, is inevitable. • Blemish arising because of the Nadi Dosha, is irreparable without consideration of breed, caste and community.

From the book of Dr Suresh Chandra Mishra (Posted by Pradeep Chaturvedi) Maharishi Parashar Says – भावहोराघटीलग्नसंज्ञािन च प्रपश्यतित | स्वओच्चग्रहो राजयतोगे लग्नद्वयतमथापी वा || The strong planet, if aspect Lagna, than it becomes Karaka. Further explaining this principle, Parashar also says if any one planet aspects either two or three or all four of lagna or Hora Lagna or Bhava Lagna or Ghati Lagna than that planet become Karaka. In case that planet is posited in better rashi than it becomes best Karaka. राशेद्रे ँष्काणतोॅॅशाच्च राशेरश ं ादथािप वा | यतद्वा रािशदृकाणाभ्यतां लग्नदृष्टा तु यतोगदः ।। Similarly, if a planet aspect first bhava of Lagna chart or Dreshkona or Navamsha or Dwadamsha or any other main divisional chart than also that planet becomes best karaka. From the book of Dr Suresh Chandra Mishra (Posted by Pradeep Chaturvedi) The individuals who are desirous to become professionals in Jyotisha or Medical science or Mantra vidhya the relevance of deep knowledge in these areas can be explained -“Ghum phir kar khud shahar ko dekh lo pahle zara Dusron ko phir shuru karna batana raasta” Only those will be remembered for immortality in these professional areas who are ready to invest labour, time etc and have devotion & passion for doing memorable things in life. So far as Jyotisha is concerned. whenever, we look for combination to become an able Astrologer, the first and foremost thing come in the mind about the influence of Mercury, Jupiter and Venus in the birth chart. In fact, it’s an illusion with which we are living because Malefic planets always help an individual to become a dedicated Astrologer. For the stream of educations based on Maths and Science like Medical, Jyotisha, Mantra, Industry etc., Rishi Parashar says that to get the name and fame in these areas, the malefic planet plays a vital role. In Astrology for determining profession or employment, we analyse Karakamsha Chart and Atmakarak. Parashar says that in Navamsha Chart, if malefic planets are posited with Atmakarak or second and fifth houses from Atmakarak, the individual will be learned in Mathematics. In the said combination if any relation is established with Jupiter, the individual will become great author in that field I am back to you now.

The weekday lord at birth becomes a potent Kaaraka, when it is: • Not in 8,12 houses; • Not combust or in its neecha rashi; • In association with other Kaaraka planets; • Resting in a strong rashi in any Kendra or trikona or Upachaya house; • Its rashi or rashis obtain good number of Astakavarga shubha rekhas. For example, in the Ambani’s chart, the weekday lord is in house 9 in its own navamsha and is associated with the 11 Th lord in navamsha kundali. In the Bill Gate’s chart, the birth is on Saturday and exalted Saturn is in house 5 with Venus and Sun. The moon loses its benevolence, when it is: • In house 12 from Sun; • Vrishchika rashi up to 15° without Vargottam navamsha; • Within 15°- 30° in Tula; • Neither receiving aspect nor association of any planet; • Establishing relation, in no way, with its dispositor; • Having Mars in Kendra in Shukla Paksha or Saturn in Krishna Paksha; • In houses 8, 12 obtaining no Paksha bala or not in a good rashi. • Such a Moon destroys relation with the person indicated by the house occupied by it. • Hence, such Moon in lagna gives rise to obsessions or insanity in the native. • Its malefic effect is curtailed when Moon has planet (s) (other than Sun, Rahu or Ketu) in houses 2, 12 from it. The lord of the nakshatra in lagna (LNL) at birth becomes a potent Kaaraka, when it happens to be in: 1. Shubha Panchaka in the natal chart; 2. Shubha Panchaka in the navamsha chart; 3. Vargottam navamsha; 4. Associated with or aspected by potent grahas; 5. Other than houses 8 or 12. 6. Kendra or trikona constituting a yoga or associated with any lord of houses 2,3,5,9,11. The natal Sun scores additional strength as much as it fulfills of the following: • No malefic in houses 8,12 from the Sun; • Constituting Veshi or Vaashi or Ubhayachari yoga; • In the Shubha Panchaka; • The Sun itself rests in houses except 8,12 from the lagna; • Jupiter or Moon in 6,7.8 houses from the sun; • Sun and Moon together in Mesha or Dhanu; • Sun in Tula along with Venus and Saturn; • In Meena rashi in the last navamsha; • Sun, moon and Jupiter together in any rashi and receives aspect from Jupiter; • From Sun, Mars or Saturn in 3,11 houses; • Three or more planets in 3,5,11 houses from the sun; • Sun in Revati, P.Phalguni, U.Phalguni or in Pushya.

Dr. Soumya Kumar and Kartik Shekhar wanted to know: In Sanskrit, the word Chika means - glow, glittering. thus, the Chikya means- pertaining to brilliancy. the prefix Duh- hard to face, very sharp. hence, the word Duschikya, in totality, gives meaning- highly sharp glittering that is not easy to face, difficult to assess its effect at a glance. A planet, termed in classics as Shoonya Marga Gata, is that having no characteristic, quality, virtue, hence unqualified to confer any good effect on native. A planet earns this Title, when it is: • Not in Shubhapancha or not even in a neutral rashi in any of Sapta varaga charts; • Receiving no aspect or association from any planet; • In its neecha rashi or happening to be at 180° from its Moolatrikona or own rashi; • Combust and conjunct with the Sun in rashi chart as well as in navamsha; • Along with Rahu or Ketu in the same rashi and navamsha; • In no way, establishing relation with any of the lagna factor, i.e., lagna, lagna lord, LNL, lord of the navamsha in lagna. • Such a planet even itself estimated to be strong otherwise, is labeled as ‘Shoonya Marga Gata’ or remote, cursed with solitariness or helpless. Dasha of planets described below leads the native to substantial loss of wealth: • Rashi or navamsha lord of Gulika when it is in house 12 in lagna chart; • Planet posited in Gandanta; • The weakest planet placed with Rahu; • Planet in the 30 th degree of any rashi except the Vargottam navamsha; • A weak lord of house 8 or of the 22 nd Drekkaana; • Dispositor of Raku or Ketu when rahu or ketu is in a Trika house; • Dispositor of Raku or Ketu when it is in a Trika. Dasha of financial crunch: • Dasha of the lagna lord placed in Trika; • Lagna lord having relation with any of trika lord; • Malefic in lagna if it is not a Kaaraka; • Navamsha lord of lagna or natal moon in Trika; • Planet having no relation with the Trikona lord. Natal chart looking strong from all aspects can also disburse mediocre success, recognition and wealth, when: • The 4th lord (being the 8th from the Bhagya Sthana)) is weak or placed in house 8 (another trika of Bhagya) ; • Weak malefic in houses 4&8; • Equal number of malefic planets in houses 6& 12; • Several malefic along with benefices in 6, 8,12; • Jupiter & Saturn both in a Sthira rashi; • Such natives generally trail far behind from his contemporaries of fewer calibers. • Contrary is the effect when the above-mentioned disposition is reversed.

White Money Black Money: According to the sages Devala and Narada, etc., there are, most similar to that of modern age, two kinds of money- Shukla or White and Taamasa or Black Here is the description: • Shukla Dhana- Coming through own education, learning or skill, from ancestors, from the life partner, from children or students, from disbursing knowledge or profession, parental wealth, from services rendered, consultancy or reciprocated to guidance. And also earned with loyalty and honesty in your work, business or profession. Devala states: Shruta (education) Shaurya tapah patni Shishya Yajya Anvatagatam. Dhanam Saptavidham Shuklam Munibhi parikeertitam. • Krishna (black) Dhana- Received as donation, bribing, gambling, theft, blackmailing, adulteration or gimmicks. Here is a citationParshvika ( bribe etc,) Dyuta Chaurya Aarti (blackmailing or threatening) Patiroopaka ( fake or duplicate product) Saahasai. Vyajena (deceiving) Uparjitam Vittam tat Tamasam udahritam. Rakshabandhana: Aug.20 or Aug.21, 2013 • Rakhi parva is observed on Shravana Purnima on the day when Tithi 15 is present in the afternoon. • As a matter of rule, at that time Bhadra or Vishti Karan is prohibited. • Sometimes the above conditions may not fulfill, therefore, learned ones have laid down some another rules to deduce the day of Parva as follows: When Purnima over lapses the successive day: • For 144 minutes (three Muhurtas), the Rakhi parva is to be observed on the next day , even if, Purnima ends much before the afternoon. • If Purnima on the next day remains for less than 144 minutes, the Rakhi Parva should be observed on the previous day with Purnima in the second half of Pradosha. The classic Purushartha Chintamani, in accordance of Parashara, states: ‘Yada Purnima Muhurta Dvya or Traya madhye Kinchit Nyoona tada Aparanhnhe sarvatha tad Abhaavat, Pradosha Pashchime Bhage Bhadrante dinvat Karma cha Aacharet.’ This year, Purnima is present on Aug.20 and ends on Aug.21 at 07:15 IST, hence does not remain for three Muhurtas. Therefore, the Rakshabandhana is a must to observe on the 20 th Aug. in the second half of Pradosha. The Pradosha Kaala for the day extends from 18:55 hrs. to 21:07 hrs. and its second half starts at 20:01 hrs. However the second half of Pradosha initiates at 20:01 hrs on Aug.20, but according to the above exception, Rakhi Parva, in a precise manner, will be observed after 20:47onward on Aug.20 only after Bhadra. Rakhi and Holika Dahana, are not prohibited in nighttime till midnight. Pushkar Amsha: Evolution of the best of The Planet Planet happening to be in a Pushkar Amsha (degree) gives rise to the best of its good and boosts up

the chart as a whole. The Pushkar Amshas are ascribed as follows: • In 1,5,9 rashis- the 21 st degree; • In 2,6,10 rashis- the 14 th degree; • In 3,7,11 rashis- the 24 th degree; • In 4,8,12 rashis- the 07 th degree. • Lagna falling in Pushkar Amsha strengthens the chart and curtails bad effect sustained otherwise. • Any planet, even if in neecha or combust, turns highly fructified. • Therefore, Saturn in Mesha at 21°, Venus in Kanya at 14°, Sun in Tula at 24°, Moon in Vrishchika at 07° and Mercury in Meena at 07 ° not only hides its malefic effect, but also disburses benevolent result. • When the above-mentioned planets, according to the Parashari rule, are Kaaraka for the chart, manifest the utmost benevolence . • This should not be mistaken for Pushkar Navamsha. Most alike to this modern cult, there was a system of a weekly holiday in the Vedic culture which is given below: Fixed Holidays: total 100 • Pratipada and Ashtami, of both Paksha, Amavasya &Purnima; • Two Chaturdashis were optional; total 8 in a month • Day of Chara rashi Samkranti, i.e., sun entering 1.4.7.10 rashis ( two Ayana & two Gola Samkrantis) total 12x8=96 + 4=100 in a year. Other Holidays: total 21 • Yugadi Tithis- 9 tithi after Diwali, Akshaya 3, tithi 13 after Janmashtami & Ama of Magha; total 4 • Manvadi Tithis: Chaitra shukla 3 &5, tithi 15 of Jyeshtha & Phalguna, Ashadha shukla 10 & 15, 30 of Shravana, Janmashtami, Bhadrapada shukla 3, Ashwin shukla 9, Kartika shukla 12 & 15, Pausha shukla 11, Magha shukla 7; total 14; • Ashtaka Tithis- 7,8,9 tithis of Krishna Paksha of Pausha, Magha & Phalguna. • In these groups, 8 holidays are common, hence, 113 holidays were being observed practically in India. Janma lagna is all time important : For Graha Pravesha or starting new business/profession, the lagna current at that time reveals something special• The same as the birth lagna- good health and continuity in ventures; • 2nd rashi from lagna- less income, declining financial status; • 3rd rashi- name & fame; • 4th rashi- friends & supporters, more and more clients; • 5th rashi- less comforts from subordinates or children; • 6th rashi- no rivalry; • 7th rashi- discomforts from opposite sex; • 8th rashi- a little longevity; • 9th rashi- disease or inferior health; • 10th rashi- stability; • 11th rashi- wealth; • 12th rashi- rivalry. • This should also be considered from the natal moon sign too. • In any case, the eighth house in the chart in question must be free from all malefic planets. However, the eighth lord in 8th only in a good rashi is mediocre.

· For Graha Pravesh: • The Sun should be on left of the native and Venus on his back. • In the lagna chart at Pravesha, Sun remains on left of the native: House facing East- Sun in 8, 9,10,11,12 houses in the then lagna; , South- sun in 5, 6,7,8,9 houses; ,, ,, West- 2,3,4,5,6 houses; ,, ,, North- 11,12,1,2,3 houses. Is this colony or city is lucky for me? • Simply find out the nakshatra according to the first letter of the city or colony as well as the same from your own name. • Counting from your own nakshatra till the same of the colony, the number achieved thus is to be multiplied by 4 and divided by 7. The remainder is gain or wealth. • Similarly, find the number of nakshatra from the same of the colony till the same of the native and repeat the above procedure (number x4/7). The remainder is loss or debt. • The wealth should always be more than debt. If so, the colony or the city is lucky for you. • This method replaces the popular Kakaini Vichar and is good in practice. • For example, a person having initial letter S aspires to live at Mysore. Their nakshatras are P.Bhadra and Magha respectively. • From P. Bha to Magha, total number is 13x4/7= remainder 3 is wealth. • From Magha to P.Bha = 16x4/7= remainder 1 is loss or debt. This reveals that Mysore is lucky for Mr. S. Vedic science of Progeny • According to the Vedic dictum, there are 84 units of a human personality, where 28 units pertain to the child itself and remaining 56 units come from his forefathers. Practically, 2/3 from ancestors including his parents. • This method is known as Saha daana- contributing the strength or Shukra Nirvaapa- contributing semen or distribution of chromosomes. • Details of the contribution (56 units) coming from ancestors are following. • 21 of his parents + 15 of his grandparents + 10 of his great grand parents + 6 of his preceded grand parents ( 4 th generation) + 3 of the 5 th generation + 1 of the 7 th generation = 56 units. • According to the modern science, there are a couple of 22 chromosomes (total44) and the number is further increased by 2 special zygotes ,e.g., XY. • We know that the two are found in a male only while in a female X only is present. Thus, the total number appears to be the 46. • In the Vedic science, considering X and Y as common to both parents, 23-2= 21 zygotes are considered. • This description underlines the fact that the ancestral effect declines gradually by generations and some how, remains potent till the seventh generation only. Naming The Newly Born: There is no restriction to name your child after the letter suggested by the nakshatra at birth. Four options, the Shastra provide us as • Particularly, on the basis of Lord Vishnu’s names of 12 months or their synonyms; • On the deity’s of the natal nakshatra or on the rashi lord; • On the name of his Kuladevata or Ishta deva; • And least in this merit order, on the Nakshatra letter. • There was no such tradition, in ancient India, to name the child on the Nak.letter.

• Why Lord Rama born in Pushya or Punarvasu, was named on the letter of Chitra? • Similarly, Lord Krishna named on Ka letter pertaining to Mrigshira where the natal nakshatra’s letters, i.e., O Va Vi Vu are totally ignored. • This all is stated, in a clear manner, in the Vedanga Jyotisham of Lagadha. hence, one can name one's child according to the sweet will of his family members. Of Embryo: Jyotisha & Modern Science Having conceived, • first 2 weeks- Jyotisha- establishment of embryo- Kalala Mod. Sc.- delivery . • Our sages, as far as the Jyotisha is concerned, have paved the way to move on forth. Let us enjoy the treasure they handed down to the mankind. • For more details, interesting people make read my book, e.g., Sukha Santana Deepika (light on Progeny). Three Stages of Conception: Parashara states that there are three different stages of conception. In his BPHS, he differentiates, more alike to modern science, Nisheka and Aadhana as two principal stages of conception, where the Vedic literature manifests: 1- Copulation or cohabitation, Nisheka or Shukra Nirvaapa; 2- Fertilization, Shukra Rajoyoga, may happen even after hours of copulation; 3- Implantation, final conception or Aadhaana. Parashara underlining the significance of lagna at Nisheka and Aadhana and states method of calculation for the two lagnas. However, the timing of Aadhana is not easy to deduce, therefore, classics reveal a method of fixing the moment of Aadhana on the basis of the birth chart by reverse application.

On the other hand, modern science reveals almost the same: 1-Out of lacs of sperms, one fortunate sperm meet the egg, coming out from a female’s ovary, in her fallopian tube. 2- this fertilization may occur within an hour or after several hours. 4- Longevity of an egg and of a sperm is around 36 and 72 hours respectively. 5- However, fertilization of young egg and sperm is highly desired. 6- A fertilized zygote finally gets established in the uterus. For Conception: Natural or Through IUF/ IUI besides Muhurtha for Garbhadhaana, following elements are prohibited in general as well as for individuals for Copulation meant for progeny: • Three Gandanta; • Birth Nakshatras of the couple; • Vadha Tara; • Lagna falling 8 th from their natal lagna; • Kraantisaamya; • Date of demise of couple’s parents; • An eclipse day; • Ashwini, Revati &Magha, • Bhadra .i.e. Vishti Karana; • Shashthi & Rikta tithis • Tuesday & Saturday; • During dawn & dusk. wanning moon, Samkranti day, Ashatamis & Ama Purnima are restricted under general rules applied to the Muhurta. Dr. Suresh Chandra Mishra

Progeny: What does nakshatra tells us • Find out the nakshatra present in the 5th house in lagna chart, which generally happens to be the 10th from nakshatra in lagna (LN). Treat this nakshtra as one. • From the above nakshatra, any malefic in the 3rd nak. Manifests disorder in uterus; • Jupiter in 6th nak.- delay in conception; • Moon in 7th nak.- miscarriage; • Saturn in 8th nak- miscarriage or problems during infancy; • Sun in 12th nak.- hurdle in conception; • Rahu in 20th nak.- indifferent behavior of children or separation from them; • Mercury in 22nd nak. Troubles during pregnancy; • Venus in 24th nak- ailing children. • Although, above effects are cited in the classics but the effect of the said planets in a specific nakshatra as cited above, may interchange, practical experience reveals. Recommended Meals for Pregnant: Vagbhatt, Haarita & Sushruta were great Ayurvedaacharya as well as good knower of astrology. During pregnancy, they recommend the following to be added month wise to a pregnant woman’s food: • Milk, curd, ghee and lassi are common to entire tenure; • 2nd month- dry grapes (munakka, kishmish), fresh white butter, honey, lime water & drink made of sandal &Khas;

• 3rd month- lotus stems, Khichari with roasted til(sesame seeds), porridge; • 4th month- rice fried or boiled with ghee, Kheer, Haluwa; • 5th month- milk with honey, fruit juice; • 6th month- milk products, fresh curd sweetened; • 7th month- wheat aata laddu and other sweets of her choice; • 8th month- sweets; • 9th month- any item of her very choice even if that is not practical to arrange. • The best of efforts should be carried out for fulfillment of her all desires. This state of desire is technically known as Dohada- whatever she desires. • A woman with healthy body and mind only can give birth to a child free from any mental mania or obsession, sages opine. Is it a blunder of Indian astronomers? In the last decade of the 20th century, The Royal Astronomical society of Britain has published a map of rashis, where a new 13th rashi. i.e., Ophiuchus was shown. This cluster of stars looks like a man having two snakes in his hands and it contains stars of fewer magnitudes, not comfortably seen in the sky. The word Ophiuchus means a man with snakes. A very long snake in his left hand is aiming his head, while another long snake in the right hand aims his feet. it is located between Vrishchika & Dhanu rashi mandala. In Indian literature, this cluster is known as Sarpadhar,in no way.labeled as a Rashi. Some people still keep rejuvenating the issue and criticize Indian astronomers left and right. Let us comprehend, why Indian astronomers have ignored it.?Is it a rashi indeed? Contd. Is it a blunder of Indian astronomers? contd. There two conditions for obtaining position to be a rashi 1. Location of the cluster on or closer to the ecliptic; 2. Magnitude of high level of the stars therein. On the basis of above two conditions, the cluster Ophiuchus does not qualify to be a rashi, although situated between Vrishchika and Dhanu mandala. Vrishchika mandal has stars scattered on both side of ecliptic and are of sufficient magnitude and also has 14 stars of -3.3 magnitude (out of 20). Scorpio mandala also consists of 3 stars of -2 mangnitude and one star of it has 1.2 magnitude, i.e., highly brilliant. While only one star located at feet of the said Sarpadhara is about 10° away from ecliptic and that is far away from its other stars of this cluster. This cluster also consists of 20 stars having 6 only magnitude far more less than that of Vrishchika. Except one, all stars of this cluster are of fewer brilliant and away from ecliptic not clearly visible through necked eyes. It is to be noted, magnitudes expressed in high numerals are dull and shown with less numbered magnitudes are practically highly brilliant. The only so called bright star of Ophiuchus is located at the head of this Sarpadhara and that is about 61° away from the southern edge of ecliptic, hence is about 70° away from the center of

ecliptic (18° width). Extract is: the cluster’s stars are scattered, not located at ecliptic, do not have sufficient magnitude and are not brightly seen in the celestial sphere. Therefore, ancient astronomers did not include this cluster in the list of 12 rashis. Hence the question of being a 13 th rashi is a mere act of misleading common men, may take place in the news channel’s highlight only, therefore, null and void. Your natal Moon speaks: First of all, we have to divide the natal nakshatra in to 60 equal parts. Each division supplies a very special effect that may come forth any time as follows. • 1 nakasatra = 13° 20’ /60 = 00° 13’ 20’’ is the extension of each segment starting from the initial point of natal nakshatra. Transit of Saturn: Effect with Difference Reckoning from the natal moon’s nakshatra to the same of Saturn in transit, divide the sum by 9. The remainder manifests: 1- Tensions, grief, late success;

2- Wealth, comfort of vehicle, uplifted lifestyle; 3- Good worldly comforts, luxuries; 4- Mental disturbance, illusion; 5- Trouble, disease, agony; 6- Auspicious effects; 7- Obstacles, troubles, calamity; 8- Accumulating money; 0- Success & achievement. The same effect should be considered in the natal chart by the remainder. Next post- Saturn’s Transit in Nakshatra Naming The Newly Born: There is no restriction to name your child after the letter suggested by the nakshatra at birth. Saturn’s Transit in Nakshatra Saturn from your natal nakshatra in nakshatra: 1-Loss; 2 to 5- success; 6 to 11- wandering, confusion; 12 to 16- wealth; 17 to-20- dishonor, ignored by people; 21 to 23- exalted position; 24 to 25- comforts, contended; 26 &27- disease, troubles. this is also applicable to the effect of Sadhesaati. Pythagoras learns his famous Theorem from India: In the Surya Siddanta, Triprashna Adhikar, the same rule (theorem ascribed to Pythagoras) has been elaborately described with reference to Palabha. We know that Palabha replaces the geographical latitude in ancient astrology. Palabha is a measurement of shadow of a stick, fixed at surface to deduce lagna for the locality in

question. Palabha remains 0 on the day of Mesha or Tula Samkranti, 12:00 hrs, at equator and gradually increases as we proceed north or south of equator. Here is the original quote from S.S.: Shanku Chhayakritiyuter Moolam Karnosya Vargatah. Projhya Shankva kriter Moolam Chhaya Shanku Viparyayat. That is: ‘the Shanku and Chhaya form right angle of 90°, the area of the square at the hypotenuse (Karna) is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares on two sides. similarly one can also arrive at the actual measurement of the above three by reverse application with their square roots.’ We must adhere to the following statement of Thebot: ‘The geometrical theorem is ascribed by Greeks to Pythagoras was known in India, centuries before and Pythagoras undoubtedly learnt this from India.’ Natal Nakshatra: Assessment for the year (Present year of age + natal nakshatra + natal moon sign = the sum x 2) Remainder manifests for the year: • Remainder 0 - miseries, loss or death or Mrityu ( refer to eight meanings of the word mrityu, posted earlier); • Remainder other than 0 – gain, comfort & success, break through in the year; Divisor is 7. Divide the tenure of Moola by 30. Birth in the 1/30 th part results in: 1. Cruel nature; 2. Illusive; 3. Cool; 4. Sons; 5. Multi facets of skill; 6. Protecting inheritance; 7. Loving nature; 8. High anger; 9. Violent; 10. Creative; 11. Rajayoga; 12. Diplomat; 13. Wealthy; 14. Sons; 15. Liberal; 16. Luminary; 17. Fond of music; 18. High anger; 19. Creative; 20. Highly responsible; 21. High anger; 22. Administrator; 23. Highly responsible;

24. Destroyer; 25. Windy nature; 26. Thinker; 27. Gallant; 28. Headman; 29. Learned; 30. Team leader. The above effect is applicable to Shlesha in a reverse manner, i.e., start counting from 30,29,28,27,26-----5.4,3,2,1. Mahadasha lord abides by its Special individualised position that ascribed for Dasha effect only: • This exercise is individually meant to fix up the key word valid for entire Dasha period. • (Natal lagna rashi+ rashi occupied by the dasha lord)x 2=A • A x dasha years for the lord in question / 27= remainder reveals thus as follows. • Example- lagna 1+ rashi occupied by Saturn 7 (present dasha lord) =8 x 2= 16x 19 (dasha years for Saturn) = 304/ 27= remainder-7 indicates health disorder, undesired load or pressure, troubles, all sort of hindrance and this is true for the native. Effect from Remainder: 1.success, honour; 2. worldly comforts; 3.gains from overseas, recognition; 4. favour from headman’ property; 5.troubles from government; 6.Authority, happiness; 7. health disorder, undesired load or pressure, troubles, all sort of hindrance; 8.overcoming rivals, property; 9. humble to all, allegations; 10. weak digestion, disease in abdomen, calumny; contd. 11. 27/o. Distorted wisdom, faithless to all, illicit relation. The term ‘Drishti or aspect is not to be taken literally. In Vedic astrology, it signifies a specific celestial positioning of planets which ensures a mutual inter-relationship or sharing/transmission of effects. Thus, Drishti is a positional phenomenon of mutual affection, transmission of mutual influence, and mutual support amongst planets. This definitely does not mean a physical act of seeing but only an extension of mutual influence, according to the seers. House aspect is practically applicable to all lagnas and to all Varga (divisional) charts. This can be derived from the statements of the sages. Parashara, (vide BPHS, Varga Vivechana) states that a planet having aspect on the first house of any two or three out of the lagna, Drekkana, Dwadashamsha or any other prominent divisional (Amsha of the rashi) chart, i.e., Saptamsha, Trimshamsha or Shashtyamsha, confers on the native the best of yoga results. In Chapter 36, shlokas 33-35 of the BPHS, the sage states that the same planet placed in or aspecting the houses 1 or 7 in the lagna, navamsha and Drekkana charts confers Rajayoga. The quality of effect is to be judged from the quantity of Drishti. Contd. For use of the concept of Drishti in the Vargas, there are numerous references in the classics. Parashara, for example, states that in the Karkamsha chart, the Sun and Rahu placed together and aspected by Mars, bereft of any other aspect, ruin the native’s houses, whereas these two together aspected by Mercury alone cause no harm. Similarly, in the Saaravali, Drishti Phaladhyaaya, Kalyan Verma describes result of mutual Drishti of Aun, Mercury and Venus. This all suggests us that the term Drishti is not merely confined to the basic chart only. They apply Drishti to divisional charts too and therefore, state effect of Drishti in various charts including Vergas. The Saravali reveals that all rules and regulations relevant to the lagna chart are applicable to the Dwadashamsha chart. This means that this varga is equivalent to the lagna chart, and the two should be treated alike in respect of placement, aspect and relationship of planets. In the Brihat Jatakam, Chapter I, Shloka 6, Varaha mentions: That in all the divisional charts the rashi lordship of planets remains intact, so that the treatment attributed to rashi must be given in the divisional charts also. Varaha Mihira states that Saturn and Venus exchanging houses in the navamsha or mutually aspecting in the navamsha (e.g., Saturn in Vrisha and Venus in Kumbha in the navamsha, or VenusSaturn conjunct in any of the signs Vrisha, Tula, Makara, Kumbha) make the native highly sensual. Some modern-day astrologers have started questioning the relevance of application of the concepts of Drishti in the Vargas or divisional charts. The sages and Acharyas are very clear in advocating that the rules of Drishti are as relevant to the divisional charts as they are to the lagna chart. Daily effect through Nakshatra

Following are the six nakshatras (reckoned from janma nak.) highly relevant in daily transit. If any of these is hurt, it may result in distress as follows: 1. Janma- Natal nakshatra- distress; 2. Karma- 09 th- troubles, hurdles; 3. Saamghatika- 15 th- great loss; 4. Saamudaayika- 17 th- undesirable effect; 5. Aadhana- 18 th- lack of home comforts; 6. Vainashika- 22 th- physical disorder, confrontation with nearer. A Nakshatra is hurt indeed when it is: • Occupied at once by Sun and Saturn; • Pierced by ( deep conjunct with) retrograde Mars or Moon; • During eclipse, occupied by Sun or Moon as the case may be; • Occupied by Ketu; • Receiving Latta (kicked by) a malefic, i.e., 12 the from the Sun’s nakshatra, 3 rd from Mars’, 8th from Saturn, 9 th from Rahu’s nakshatra; Nakshatra hurt disburses its inauspicious effect within days equal to the number of stars of the Nakshatra. In case of marriage, days, fixed thus, are to be considered as years, states Varah Mihira. For the number of stars, please refer to the page no. 118 of Mishra’s Indian Ephemeris, 2013. Remedy for the said evil Serving, watering, to move around (Parikrama), planting or preserving limbs of the same of the following tree mitigate the evil of hurt nakshatra. The following remedy could also be very useful for your natal nakshatra in general. For sake of brevity, the serial no. of nakshatras is cited here: 1. Banana tree; 2. Banana / Amla; 3. Goolar; 4. Jaamun; 5. Khair or Kattha; 6. Mango / Belpatra tree; 7. Bamboo; 8. Peepal; 9. Sandal; contd. contd. from our yesterday’s post 10. Vata (oak tree); 11. Dhaak; 12. Vata (oak tree); 13. Reetha; 14. Bel; 15. Arjuna; 16. Neem; 17. Maulshree; 18. Reetha;

This is according to sage Narada and Aacharya Lalla. contd. contd. from our yesterday’s post 19. Raber plant; 20. Jaamun; 21. Kathal; 22. Aak; 23. Semar; 24. Kadamb; 25. Mango; 26. Peepal; 27. Mahua. This is according to sage Narada and Aacharya Lalla. however I do not know their botanical names. In spite of having good potent yogas at birth: Ailment or heavy stress ensues, when natal moon is in• I pada of hasta, dhanishtha, shlesha & U.bhadra; • II pada of Ardra, Vishakha, Mool &Bharani; • III pada of U.bhadra, shlesha, U. Phalguni, Shravana; • IV pada of Bharani, moola, swati, Mrigshira. • The above dispositions are highly malefic during day time birth, mediocre during dawn and dusk and no malefic at night time. A specific nakshatra coinciding with a particular tithi forms Jwalamukhi (volcanic) Yoga: • Pratipada with Moola; • Panchami with Bharani; • Shashthi with Krittika; • Navami with Rohini; • Dashami with Shlesha. This sort of yoga manifests obstacles in survival, at Muhurtha, travel for a specific cause and any type of construction. Like Grahas, nakshatras also become combust when their rising and setting times coincide with the same of the Sun. Therefore, following the three nakshatras are weak because of obtaining blemish of combustion: 1. Occupied by sun, 2. The preceded one 3. The next one. The following nakshatras never become combust as they remain far northward from the ecliptic. Therefore, they rise long before the sunrise and set long after the sunset: Swati, Abhijit, Shravana, Dhanishtha, U.Bhadrapada Hence the above are exempted from the blemish of combustion. Generally, Sun curtails the good of the house, it occupies. But Sun in the above-mentioned nakshatras hesitates to cut short good effects of that house.

On the day of election, getting admitted to hospital, filing a petition: • Check the nakshatras in transit of the Sun, the Moon and natal / according to the first letter of name of the man going to; • Above three falling anywhere in the trio of the following indicates defeat, prolonged stay or future complications, loss of the game; 1. Ardra, Punarvasu, Pushya; 2. Shlesha, Magha, P. Pha.; 3. U. Pha., hasta, chitra; 4. Swati, vishakha, anuradha; 5. Jyeshtha,Moola, P. asha.; 6. U. Aashad., shravana, dhanishtha; 7. Shatbisha, P.Bhadra, U.Bhadra,; 8. Rewati, Ashvini, Bharani; 9. Krittika, rohini, mrigshira. this is a must to check for hospitalization or relief from disease. Regarding date for marriage Someone questioned me – why suitable dates for marriage in Dec. 12 & 13 in 2013 absent in your Ephemeris, while those are recommended in other panchangas? My humble submission is: • Dates having nakshatra occupied by malefic (s), i.e., Paapa Yuti are ignored as per the recommendation of Shastra. Possible result of Yuti is following. • Yuti by Sun- lack of prosperity, Mars- serious trouble, Venus- other relation, Saturn- no private comforts, Rahu &Ketu- subversion. • On Dec. 12 &13, Ashwini has Ketu yuti. • The nakshatra falling in Vedha (volcanic) by any graha on the date in question is strictly prohibited. Following paired nakshatras mutually fall in Vedha• Ashwini & P. Pha, Bharani & Anuradha, Krittika & Vishakha, Rohini & Abhijit, Mrig & U. Asha, Ardra & P. asha., Punar. & Moola, Pushya & Jyeshtha, Shlesha & dhanistha, Magha & Shravana, • Revati &U. Pha., hasta & U.Bha., Chitra & P. Bha., Swati & Shatbhisha, • On Dec. 12, revati and Mars in U. Pha. Cause Vedha. Avoid the following yogas at Kanyadaana/ Hathjoda/ PaanigrahanaVishkumbha may result in agony; Atiganda may result in suicidal tendency; Shoola may result in injuries; Ganda may result in disease; Vyaghaata may result in disease; Harashana may result in grief; Vyatipaata may result in lack of comforts from progeny; Parigha may result in less compatibility with partner; Vaidriti may result in widowhood.

• These yogas do not cancel the Muhurta for marriage, but are to be spared at the ceremony of Kanyadaana. • The muhurta or lagna for marriage mainly pertains, indeed to the moment of Kanyadaan or Phere / lavan, prikrama. • In case any of the above-mentioned yoga exists and one can not avoid it on the date & time, the lagna as well as the navamsha must be deduced by a person having ample knowledge of astrology for sure success and stability of marriage. It is a matter of great pleasure that people nowadays are much aware about astrological calculations shown in Panchanga/ Ephemeris. Today I encountered with an intelligent query regarding Karana, one of the components of Panchanga. The man wanted to get confirmation whether a karana ends exactly when the moon is advanced by 6° or calculated by bifurcated Tithimaana. I submit: • A karana precisely ends when moon gains distance of 6° from sun. • The picture does not change much either we divide Tithi in to two equal parts or wait for moon to obtain 6° distance from sun. • Generally timing in ephemeris is rounded off in a complete digit of minute, if that in seconds remains above 30 seconds or more. The classics advise in this respect ‘Ardham ½ Roopavat 1’ and the difference appearing thus, will be limited to one minute around. • Today on Sept. 13,2013, Bava karana as well as the tithi 8 ends at 9:34:41 hrs with Sun26°29’24’’, moon- 02° 29’24’’ maintaining 6° distance. • The next karan, i.e., Balava will end when moon moves further 6° away from sun, i.e., 20,27,21 (sept.13, 2013,20:27:21hrs.) having sun at 26°55’53’’ and moon at 08°55’53’’ in the next rashi (precisely 12° away). Karan ,thus as a matter of rule, keeps maintaining the same distance. • However, taking tithimaan in to account, end of 8 tithi- 09:35 hrs. end of tithi 9-07:17 hrs. next day, hence the extension of tithi is 21hours 42 minutes, adding a half of it to the previous end of Karan gives us time- 20:26 hrs. and the same obtained through longitudes appears to be 20:27 revealing minor difference of 1 minute 21 seconds. This minor difference will be limited to 1-1.5 minute only practically making no considerable difference. • The reason is that obtaining the most precise longitude of moon, because of its swiftly varying motion, is an uphill task. therefore,a minor difference in minutes in moon's longitude is condoned by Aacharyas. Younger brothers of Rajayogas All seven or almost planets in the following group of houses/ rashis (as mentioned below) are treated as Rajayoga of a little lower grade. Persons having several planets (more than 4/7) in the said group of rashis/houses earn good recognition, skill, name and goodwill in his chosen field of work. • Shayani yoga (comfortable bedding) - planets continuously in houses 1-5; • Agra yoga (advanced)- planets continuously in houses 10-2; • Kanakdanda yoga (stick of gold)- planets in 1,2,7,12 rashis; • Damaru ,, (beating instrument of Lord Shiva) - planets in 2,3,8,9 rashis; • Damaruta ,, (beating instrument) - planets in 5,6,11,12 rashis;

• Puccha ,,(tail) - planets in 10,8 rashis; • Chatuh Sagara (four oceans)- planets in 1,4,7,10 rashis; • Rajahamsa- (king swan)planets in 1,3,5,7,11 rashis; • Dolika (a swing)- planets in 1,2,12 rashis; • Griddha Puccha(tail of egale)- planets in 2,6,8,12 rashis; • Chilha Puccha (tail of vulture)- planets in 3,4,5,9,10,11 rashis. About Gajakesari yoga: • This yoga does not only form with Moon & Jupiter. • There are two kinds of this yoga, Kesari & Gajakesari yoga. • Sun in the X or moon in IX from Jupiter forms the Kesari yoga. • The latter one is not only formed with Jupiter falling in any Kendra from the Moon, but also with Mercury aspected by Moon or Jupiter aspected by/ associated with Mercury. • The Moon or Jupiter in neecha or combustion cancels the Kesari as well as the Gajakesari yogas. A Maha PurushYoga is canceled when: • The yoga- forming planet happens to be in Ashubha navamsha; • The planet is associated with or aspected by a planet in Ashubha Panchaka; • Any planet at birth is in neecha or combust or nearing its neech; • The yoga- forming planet is associated with either luminary; • Under these conditions, the yoga becomes of mixed nature and results in good effects during the yoga-forming planets’s dasha only. • The chart does not meet any of the above dispositions, the Mahapurusha yoga is ranked as a pure or Shuddha Mahapurusha yoga. • A Shuddha yoga is always result oriented without support of dasha. The effect of yoga flourishes, when: • The yoga-forming planet obtains support of another strong planet; • Birth happens during a Chara lagna; • Moon is in 3,5 or vargottam in 8 rashis, obviously not with the yoga-forming planet. ( effect of neech moon is minimized) this all has been culled from the statements of Parashara.
