THE FINISHED GRADE IS ALSO THE ELEVATION OF THE CENTERLINE AS SHOWN IN THE TYPICAL CROSS SECTION. FOR SUPER ELEVATION, CURVE WIDENING OR HORIZONTAL TRANSITION REFER TO TABLE FOR SUPER ELEVATION DEVELOPMENT FOR ROAD SAFETY DESIGN MANUAL.

SLOPE PROTECTION SHALL BE PROVIDED IN AREAS INDICATED ON THE PLANS IN ACCORDANCE WITH DETAILS SHOWN IN THE DRAWING.

ALL WORKS SHALL COMPLY WITH DPWH STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR HIGHWAYS, BRIDGES AND AIRPORTS, 2013 EDITION.

DESIGN WAS BASED ON THE DATA SUBMITTED BY THE SURVEY TEAM OF PLANNING AND DESIGN DIVISION OF DPWH, NEGROS ISLAND REGION (NIR), REGIONAL OFFICE.

THE IMPLEMENTING OFFICE SHALL IDENTIFY THE LOCATIONS AND PROVIDE ACCESSIBILITY FACILITIES FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITY IN ACCORDANCE WITH D.O. 37 SERIES OF 2009.

QUALITY CONTROL

SUBSTANDARD MATERIALS WILL RESULT IN SUB STANDARD WORK. THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR TESTING AND ACCEPTANCE LIES FULLY WITH THE CONTRACTOR, AND IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MATERIALS ENGINEER TO OVERSEE ALL TESTING AND TO ENSURE THAT THE TESTS COMPLY WITH THE SPECIFICATIONS AND PROCEDURES. 3.

IF THE ENGINEER ASSIGNED IN THE PROJECT NOTICES ANYTHING ON THE SITE THAT IS CONSIDERED UNSAFE, A SITE INSTRUCTION SHOULD IMMEDIATELY BE GIVEN TO THE CONTRACTOR REGARDING THIS MATTER THAT COULD CAUSE SAFETY PROBLEMS, SUCH AS:

LOCATION OF PUBLIC UTILITIES

BEFORE THE CONTRACTOR BEGINS ANY EXCAVATION BELOW EXISTING GROUND PARTICULARLY ADJACENT TO THE EXISTING ROAD AND PROPERTIES. THE UTILITY AUTHORITIES SHOULD BE GIVEN ADVANCED NOTICES AND SITE INSPECTION SHOULD BE ARRANGED AND THE SAME APPLIES TO HEAVY EQUIPMENT CROSSING THE ROAD. 4.

RIPRAP AND GROUTED RIPRAP A.

FOOTING SHALL BE CARRIED DOWN TO A FIRM FOUNDATION AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER.

B.

CLASS "A" CONCRETE SHALL BE USED.

C.

MORTAR TO BE ONE (1) PART CEMENT AND THREE (3) PARTS SAND.

D.

MORTAR JOINTS 2 1/2 CM TO 4 CM.

E.

THE STONES SHALL NOT BE LESS THAN 15 KGS. IN WEIGHT AND LAID OFF TO THE LINES AND DIMENSION REQUIRED.

ROAD MARKINGS ( THERMOPLASTIC ) A.

THE PROJECT ENGINEER SHOULD VERIFY FROM THE BILL OF QUANTITIES THE TYPE OF ROAD MARKINGS THAT IS REQUIRED WHETHER CONTINUOUS OR BROKEN. THE DIMENSIONS, COLORS AND MATERIALS TYPE SHOULD CONFORM TO THE SPECIFICATION PRESCRIBED IN THE BLUE BOOK 2004 EDITION.

B.

THE PROJECT ENGINEER SHOULD CHECK WITH THE LABORATORY TO ENSURE THAT THE TYPE OF MATERIALS IS CORRECT AND HAS BEEN APPROVED.

C.

PRE - MARKING SHOULD BE CAREFULLY CARRIED OUT BY THE CONTRACTOR AND CHECKED AND APPROVED BY THE PROJECT ENGINEER BEFORE LAYING ON THE ROAD MARKINGS TO START.

D.

PRE - MARKING IS NORMALLY CARRIED OUT BY SURVEY INSTRUMENT ON STRAIGHT SECTIONS AND BY A ROPE LINE ON A CURVE. THE PROPOSED ALIGNMENT SHOULD BE MARKED W/ PAINTS SPOTS ON THE PAVEMENT SURFACE FOR THE MACHINE TO FOLLOW.

EXCAVATION

UNSUITABLE MATERIALS THAT MAY BE ENCOUNTERED DURING THE EXCAVATION. SHOULD BE REMOVED TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE PROJECT ENGINEER. PHOTOGRAPHS SHOULD BE TAKEN BEFORE REPLACEMENT OF EXCAVATION MATERIALS AND SHALL BE MEASURED AND AGREED BY BOTH PARTIES. THE CONTRACTOR AND THE PROJECT ENGINEER. THE VOLUME SHOULD BE RECORDED IN A LOG BOOK FOR RECORD PURPOSES. EXCAVATED MATERIALS SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THE CONSTRUCTION SITE. THE HAULING AND THE DISPOSAL IS WITHIN THE AUTHORITY OF THE PROJECT ENGINEER.

QUANTITIES ARE SUBJECT TO INCREASE / DECREASE, DEPENDING UPON THE RESULT OF JOINT FINAL INSTRUMENT SURVEY.

PAVEMENT

ANY ITEM OF WORK REFLECTED ON THE PLANS / CONTRACT SUCH AS CLEARING & GRUBBING, SUB - GRADE PREPARATION, BASE MATERIALS PREPARATION. PCCP AND RIPRAP SHOULD CONFORM WITH THE 2004 DPWH STANDARD SPECIFICATION WHICH IS THE BASES OF REFERENCE IN ANY CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES.

7.4.2a Design

The chevron sign shall be a vertical rectangle. No border shall be used on the chevron sign. The point of the arrow in chevron shall indicate the direction of travel. They shall be visible for at least 150m to provide the road user with adequate time to react to change in alignment. The minimum lateral offset of the chevron sign shall be 1.8m from the edge of the pavement.

SHOWING THAT THE SPACING OF THE CHEVRON SIGNS ALLOW THE DRIVER TO SEE AT LEAST (3) SIGNS IN VIEW WHILE NEGOTIATING THE CURVE UNTIL THE CHANGE IN ALIGNMENT ELIMINATES THE NEEDS FOR THE SIGNS AS CONTAINED IN THE 4TH PARAGRAPH OF SECTION 620.2.2, DESIGN FOR ITEM 620 - CHEVRON SIGNS

The chevron signs shall be installed on the outside of the curve, set up aligned with the approaching traffic at right angle to a driver's line of sight. Two-sided chevron signs may be used on two-lane, two-way roads to guide driver's travelling in both directions. It is recommended that the spacing of the chevrons signs should allow the driver to see at least three (3) signs in view while negotiating the curve, until the change in alignment eliminates the need for the signs. Chevron signs shall be mounted clear of roadside vegetation and clearly visible under headlight illumination by night. Chevrons should be installed 1.5m above the ground in rural areas and 2.2m in urban areas. The recommended spacing for chevrons within a curve is shown below.
