NTRODUCTION Brief Overview Defense of the Ancients (commonly known as DotA) is a custom scenario for the real-time strategy video game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, based on the "Aeon of Strife" map for StarCraft. The objective of the scenario is for each team to destroy the opponents' Ancients, heavily guarded structures at opposing corners of the map. Players use powerful units known as heroes, and are assisted by allied heroes and AI-controlled fighters called "creeps". As in role-playing games, playerslevel up their heroes and use gold to buy equipment during the mission (www.wikipedia.com.ph) Defense of the Ancients pits two teams of players against each other: the Sentinel and the Scourge. Players on the Sentinel team are based at the southwest corner of the map, and those on the Scourge team are based at the northeast corner. Each base is defended by towers and waves of units which guard the main paths leading to their base. In the center of each base is the "Ancient", a building that must be destroyed to win the game. (www.fanaticnetworks.com) Each human player controls one Hero, a powerful unit with unique abilities. In Allstars, players on each side choose one of ninety-seven heroes, each with different abilities and tactical advantages over other heroes. The scenario is highly team-oriented; it is difficult for one player to carry the team to victory alone. Nevertheless, some heroes, given enough time, can change the outcome single-handedly, while countering the opposing team's heroes. Defense of the Ancients allows up to ten players in a five versus five format and an additional two slots for.

Playing games is a natural part of growing. It’s one way that kids learn to socialize, compete, to fulfill their craving ego, to entertain, to have fun and sometimes to escape from depression. Computer and online games, in most instances, are no more dangerous than other games that kids play outdoors. But sometimes, computer and online games with the touch of modern technology, it become more than just play. They become an addiction. And when they became an addiction, it will be hard for the parents and to them to end what has been started. Defense of the Ancients (DOTA) is a custom scenario for Warcraft III, based on the "Aeon of Strife" map for StarCraft. It is a team-strategy-game. The objective of the scenario is to destroy the opponents "Ancient". The two teams' ancients are heavily guarded structures at opposing corners of the map. Players use powerful units known as heroes, and are assisted by allied heroes and AI-controlled fighters called "creeps". As in role-playing games, players level up their hero and use gold to buy equipment during the mission. DOTA was originally developed by a map-maker named Eul. There were different DOTA variations that time. The most popular one is “Dota All Stars” which was developed by Guinsoo. When Guinsoo retired, IceFrog took over as the main programmer for the map. DOTA is more on strategy than individual play. Even though players have their own heroes, it is their teamwork that is very important to win the game. Although factors like individual skills also matter, a very good player with team mates that doesn’t care a lot about the team can’t just win by himself against all his opponents (unless of course he’s far too good and his opponents are new to the game).
