PREAMBLES
This Specification shall be read in conjunction with all other Contract documents, which include Drawings and Standard Forms of Tender. Should any queries arise in respect of this Specification, they shall be referred to the Engineer. All references to the "Main Contractor" in this specification shall mean the contractor employed by the client to take overall responsibility for the building works. All references to the "Architect" in this Specification shall mean Accord who is lead designer employed by Tesco Stores Ltd under the terms of the Contract. All references to the "Engineer” in this Specification shall mean Pinnacle Consulting Engineers Limited who is employed by Tesco Stores Ltd under the terms of the Contract.

SCOPE OF THE WORKS
The Piling Contractor will be expected to act as a Sub Contractor to the Main Contractor and will be responsible for the design, supply, delivery and installation of the piling works as shown on the Contract drawings in accordance with his requirements and parameters coordinated and agreed with the Engineer.
2.1
Design
The pile design and construction shall be in accordance with Eurocode 7: Geotechnical Design and Eurocode 2: Design of Concrete, based on loading information provided by the Engineer (loads on drawing are limit state, GEO combination), and ground information. The Piling Contractor shall confirm acceptance of the site investigation as adequate or propose further investigation as considered necessary.

DESCRIPTION OF THE WORKS
The scheme consists of the construction of a new retail store with residential development in accordance with the Contract documents. The foundation strategy shall be a piled solution utilising either driven or augured concrete piles with concrete pile-caps and concrete perimeter ground beams. The ground floor slab shall be suspended, insitu-cast onto similar concrete piles.

Comply with the latest edition of the relevant British Standards and Eurocodes, along with the requirements of this Method Statement.
4%1%1 Co&"'i$ne (i!) !)e S"ei#i$!ion Should the Piling Contractor wish to deviate from the Contract specification in any way, he shall agree such deviations with the Engineer in writing. 4.2

4%2%1 E+is!ing Ser,ies Prior to commencing on site, the Contractor shall make enquiries from all available Local Authorities and Statutory Authorities, etc, concerning the position and depth of existing service pipes, cables and other underground constructions which are likely to affect the works. works. The Piling Contractor shall also check with the Local Authorities and Boards whether it will be necessary to provide any special sequences or restrictions of working conditions in connection with with these services. Any known will be advised below but these will not necessarily be a complete analysis.
4%2%2 Si!e Ins"e!ion The Piling Contractor will be deemed to have visited and inspected the site and all surrounding structures, etc, prior to starting on site. He will be deemed to have made himself thoroughly acquainted with all details of the site, surrounding buildings, structures, roads, services, etc, and other structures, road surfaces, pavings, etc, in the area that may be affected by the piling operations.
4%2%3 A,oi*$ne o# D$&$ge- N.is$ne The Piling Contractor shall carry out the work in such a manner that no buildings or structures, including their foundations, cladding, finishes, etc, or road surfaces, pavings, services, etc, in the vicinity of the piling works, are disturbed or damaged in any way or their occupants unreasonably disturbed or affected.
4%2%4 Si!e In,es!ig$!ion A detailed project specific geotechnical investigation has been carried out and a report issued. This geotechnical investigation report will be provided as part of the Piling Contract documents. Any subsoil conditions shown on the geotechnical investigations relate only to the exact locations in which the boreholes and trial pits were carried out, and may not be totally representative of the site. Variations in the subsoil, ground water conditions, etc, may vary at other locations on the site.

The Piling Contractor will be deemed to have studied the geotechnical data and /or made due allowance in his Tender for carrying out the works as necessary in the prevailing site conditions, and any other variations in the ground conditions that can be expected from geological records, etc. If the subsoil conditions prove to be different from those shown, or if such conditions are suspected, the Piling Contractor shall notify the Engineer immediately. No claims for additional costs arising from varied soil conditions or pile lengths will be allowed for.
4%2%/ A!!en*$nes0 A!!en*$nes0 E! All requirements of the Piling Contractor in respect of access, hardstandings, etc, or any attendances, etc, shall be subject to subsequent agreement with the Main Contractor.
4%2% Pi'ing Le,e' Prior to commencement of piling, the Piling Contractor shall agree the piling level, which may not necessarily be the level of the site existing at the time of tender.
4%2% Noise The Piling Subcontractor is to allow for and ensure that all measures to control the noise levels produced by his operations on site required under or by virtue of any enactment or regulations, or by the working rules of any industry, are strictly complied with. The Subcontractor shall indemnify the Contractor against any claim or proceeding in respect of noise made on the Works. Allow for all costs arising from the stoppage or reprogramming of the Works because of noise. Specifically the Subcontractor may arrange in respect of all work done under this contract:That all compressors used on the site are silenced either by using only fully silenced models, fitted with effective exhaust silencers and properly lined and sealed acoustic covers, all to the designs of the manufacturers of the compressors. That ancillary pneumatic percussive tools and other machinery used on the site are fitted with silencers of a type recommended by the manufacturers thereof. That every such compressor, silencer or other contrivance is maintained in good and efficient working order and shall not have been altered in such a way that the noise caused in operation is made greater by the alteration. If any action is taken to restrain the Subcontractor from causing a nuisance by making noise, he is to be responsible for taking immediate steps to reduce such noise to the absolute minimum.
4%2% i5r$!ion The type of pile and method of installation is to be such that any vibration, shock, etc, caused does not damage any surrounding structures, services, etc, or cause any legally actionable disturbance. All methods of working, costs, etc, necessary to avoid any nuisance, damage, etc, from noise, dust vibration, etc, are deemed to have been included in the tender.

S!$n*$r*s In the manufacture of pre-cast reinforced concrete piles, pre-stressed concrete piles and jointed precast reinforced concrete segmental piles, all materials and components shall comply with BS EN 12794. This applies to manufacture of piles in a factory and on site, either indoors or outdoors. The following materials shall not be built into the works: • •

/%1%3 Pi'e He$* Rein#ore&en! Pile heads shall comply with BS EN 12794.
/%1%4 Pi'e 7.$'i!8 All Material or products which are incorporated into completed structural components shall comply with the requirements of the component specification. Only products with a CE mark shall be used if a harmonised standard exists for that constituent product type. All structural components shall, for this project, be CE marked in accordance with Execution Class EXC2. All documentation, protocol and checking shall be administered by the Main Contractor and records kept for the designated number of years.
/%1%/ M$r9ing o# Pi'es Marking of piles shall comply with BS EN 12794 and cl. 5.1.4 of this Specification.
/%1% Or*ering o# Pi'es Piles shall be ordered by the Contractor to meet programme requirements. All piles and production facilities shall be made available for inspection at any time. Piles shall be examined by the Contractor and Piling Contractor at the time of delivery and any faulty units rejected and replaced. 5.2

/%2%1 H$n*'ing0 Tr$ns"or!$!ion $n* S!or$ge The methods and sequence of lifting, handling, transportation and storing piles shall be such as to avoid shock loading and to ensure that piles are not damaged. Only designed lifting and support points shall be used. During transport and storage, piles shall be supported to avoid damage. Method Statement For Piling Rev: A

A pile shall be rejected when the width of any transverse crack exceeds 0.3mm. The measurement shall be made with the pile in its working position.
/%2%2 Pi'e Dri,ing Pile installation and procedures shall be in accordance with BS EN 12699 and the requirements of the Specification and the Contract Documents.
/%2%3 S!reng!) o# Pi'es Concrete to piles shall be of grade C35/45 with Sulphate Resisting Cement in accordance with this method statement, the Specification for Concrete and the Design. Pile strength at the time of installation shall be in accordance with BS EN 12794.
/%2%4 Pi'e Ins!$''$!ion S8s!e& The pile shall be safely supported by the pile installation system.
/%2%/ Per#or&$ne o# Dri,ing E:.i"&en! The pile installation system shall be capable of adjustment to provide an axial, non-eccentric application of the installation force.
/%2% Leng!) o# Pi'es The length of each pile shall be recorded.
/%2% Re"$ir $n* Leng!)ening o# Pi'es ;Dri,en Pi'es< If it is necessary to repair the head of a pile before it has been driven to its final level, the Contractor shall carry out such repair in a way which allows the pile-driving to be completed without further damage. If the driving of a pile has been completed but the level of sound concrete of the pile is below the required cut-off level, the pile shall be made good to the cut-off level, or the pile cap or substructure may be locally deepened, so that the completed foundation will safely withstand the specified working load. Any provision for lengthening piles incorporated at the time of manufacture shall be designed by the Contractor to resist all stresses to which it may be subjected. If no provision for lengthening piles was incorporated at the time of manufacture, any method for lengthening shall be such that the extended pile including any joints is capable of resisting all stresses to which it may be subjected. Where piles are driven to depths exceeding those expected, leaving insufficient projection for penetration into the following works, the piles shall be extended or replaced so that the completed piles are capable of meeting the requirements of the Specification. Repaired or lengthened piles shall not be driven until cubes for the added concrete have reached the specified characteristic strength of the concrete of the pile (refer to the Specification for Concrete).
/%2% C.!!ing O## Pi'e He$*s When the pile installation has satisfied the Specification requirements, the concrete of the head of the pile shall be cut off to the level level specified. Reinforcing bars projecting above this level shall be as specified. Care shall be taken to avoid shattering or otherwise damaging the rest of the pile. Any Method Statement For Piling Rev: A

cracked or defective concrete shall be cut away and the pile repaired to provide a full and sound section to be cut-off level.

Dynamic load testing of piles shall be carried out in accordance with ASTM D4945 Standard Test Method for High-Strain Dynamic Testing of Piles or other approved non-UK national standards. Static load testing of piles shall be carried out in accordance with BS EN 22477 Pile Load Test by Static Axially Loaded Compression.

Prior to commencement of the piling works the Main Contractor shall set out the main grid lines, provide an agreed datum level, and afford facilities for the Piling Subcontractor to set out individual pile positions from such grid lines and datums. It shall be the responsibility of the Piling Piling Subcontractor to set out the position of each pile from the grid lines set out by the Main Contractor. All piles are to be accurately positioned in accordance with the Engineers' setting out drawings, and Architect’s site co-ordinates, and within the standard allowable tolerances, location and plumb. The Main Contractor shall check and agree in writing, as piling proceeds the accuracy of the setting out of all piles, in relation to the main grid lines. The Main Contractor shall inform the Engineer of any piles that have been constructed outside the allowable tolerances, and no subsequent work shall be carried out until further instructions have been received from the Engineer. 5.2.12 Obstructions
In the event of unnatural obstructions, such as old foundations, walls, basements, etc, below ground level being encountered during piling operations which render further progress on that pile impractical by the method employed, the Subcontractor shall immediately inform the Engineer and Main Contractor.
