INTERMEDIATE 12 SPEAKING TEST PART 2 – MATERIAL TO SHOW STUDENTS

TEST 1- PART 2  

Tell and react to a story  Take it in turns to tell your partner a short story about something that happened to you or to someone you know. Choose from the topics below. While your partner is speaking, react to their story.   • A time when you were lost. • Something embarrassing that happened to you. • A minor accident you had. • A time when you had, or gave someone, a big surprise. • A time when you stepped out of your comfort zone.     You don’t need to discuss all the topics. Speak for about 3 minutes.

TEST 2- PART 2 What will the world be like in 20 years’ time?

  Talk to each other about how likely you think these predictions are to happen. Decide which three predictions are most likely.   • Tourists will be going on trips to space. • Many people will live more than 100 years. • In most countries smoking will be completely eradicated. • There will be no more poor countries. • People will be driving flying cars. • The majority of people will have moved to cities.     You don’t need to discuss all the topics. Speak for about 3 minutes.

TEST 3- PART 2 What are we going to do about Anna?

  Imagine you and your partner(s) are sharing a flat as university students. You have another flatmate, Anna, who is causing some problems. You like her, and don’t want to upset her, but something has to be done. You have already tried speaking to her. Look at the problems she is causing and discuss some possible solutions.   • She never does the washing up. • She leaves her clothes all over the flat. • She goes to bed very late and makes a lot of noise at night. • She sings very loudly in the shower at 5:30am (when you are sleeping). • She is always losing her front door key.   You don’t need to discuss all the topics. Speak for about 3 minutes.

TEST 4- PART 2  

Preparing a presentation about events

You need to make a presentation about events you have attended. The tutor has given you some options:   • A concert • A musical • A theatre play • An art exhibition • A film   Take turns to tell each other if you have ever been to these types of events. If you have, describe the event and your impressions. Then decide which events would be the most interesting to include in the presentation.   You don’t need to discuss all the ideas. Speak for about 3 minutes.
